Well, we're still looking for a permanent OT (PST...), but we've had a sub run with us for the past 2 raid days. He was fresh to 11s afaik, but we've been managing to consistently make it up to the tower phase at this point. I would recommend marauder (tank) unless you are really set on playing a different role. Tank queues are the fastest and marauder is arguably less boring than gladiator (and turns into warrior, one of the most desired and versatile jobs for endgame). You will need to level gladiator to 22 at some point, though, for a cross-class skill.

Apart from that, just be aware that lancer (dragoon), archer (bard), and particularly thaumaturge (black mage) have significant playstyle changes after level 50. Not directly a difficulty increase, but they can make certain fights more difficult when you're trying to keep the damage up.

You need to level gladiator to 34 for awareness for raw intuition, shitter

It's paladin for the easiest class it starts out as gladiator and is the building block of all tanks. Other tanks need your cross classes to function but you only really want to ass around with theirs to be optimal. You will have heavy physical defence and more mitigation than you can shake a stick at along with a ultimate mitigation that let's healers DPS and forget about you as opposed to halomang (you still lose HP) or living dead (more like fully dead) though your damage output is a tiny fraction lower than other tanks and you have simple combos it's a good first job.

Get gear with less skill speed. And I wouldn't worry about it now, at the end of the expansion, when 270 shire gear dumps SKS onto you in abundance and there's nothing you can do about it.
