I've taken some to update the /xcg/ ablum, now with 900+ images.
Take some time to check it out if you haven't yet, or browse through the front to see the new stuff. Last time I posted there was only about 750 some images, so a lot got added this time around.

So xcom1 had the mechanic where blowing up shit on ufo's reduced the amount of stuff you recovered from them.

I never cared about this in xcom2 but I'm doing some train supply raids in LW2 and I'm noticing that every ayy is standing next an explosive barrel.

If I know the explosion won't kill them and ruin their corpsey goodness is there any reason not to blow these trains to kingdom come? Like supply reduction or something?

It's a retaliation mission in Long Dong 2, you have to manually command every civilian over to the evac zone
>>
>>167988446
Supply trains actually have the supplies on them. Don't blow those up.

>>167988493
Rebels can have melee without weapons. They can still deal damage too, but I think they only get the damage from how much distance they cover, they don't get the base damage of a sword.
>>
>>167988446
Generally those things are sitting next to the shiny glowy supply crates that determine how much shit you'll get, same applies for blowing up the trucks in convoy maps. Blow the truck up the goods usually go with it

Anybody have any experience or ideas regarding playing LW2 lategame with 0% infiltration? I've made it to the late midgame and finally am being beat by just how fucking many aliens there are. My entire strategy up until this point had been Technicals/Rangers to salvo everything that moves and then Light Em Up to clear them out but it doesn't matter how many I can spread out because I can never wipe out enough targets instead of leaving them with 1 or 2 HP left. As their aim values get higher and higher flashbangs are doing less and I can't trade or count on misses.

Any ideas?
>>
>>167990658

Infiltration is fun, it's just trying to make the actual missions about stealth is where it falls apart
>>
>>167990658
Infiltration is better than fatigue imo, however it needs to be more granular because at this point the impact on force strength is marginal.
>>
>>167990814

The mission expiration timer should go down at double the speed once infiltration hits 100%
>>
>1.2 patch notes
>hail of bullets now requires 5 ammo
So are we back to the old LW1 balance philosophy of gimp everything that is effective rather than strengthening the weaker choice? Suppression is way too unreliable/buggy right now.

>>
>>167991239
Also suppression is buggy, but I wouldn't call it weak. Area suppression is still extremely.
But they should not be nerfing xcom's combat ability when most people believe that avoiding engagements is already the best way to play.
>>
Man, I played the original Xcom UFO Defence and Terror From The Depths to hell and back as a kid, and only recently I had the chance to play the newer Xcom games for a decent amount of time.

This feels weird. The games arent BAD, but they just dont feel like the game I used to play as a kid at all, it's all radically different. What should I do?
>>
>>167991436
I totally agree with toning down things that work too well. LW has always understood this at least more than Firaxis. However it's so frustrating that they always leave shitty things shitty. Also I can't stand that faggot and the fact that they do balance of the entire mod on the opinion of the highest tier of xcom autists.
>>
>tactical combat game
>nerf things that actually make tactical combat doable
>encourage avoiding tactical combat

good job good effort
>>
>>167991239
Tbh what good does hail of bullets even do for gunners? They should already be high aim enough for a solid chance on most shots and having them suppress 4-12 guys is the goal anyway.
>>
>>167991583
Have you played x-com at all recently?
Regardless, they are very different games. If you are going to only try and measure it up to some old nostalgia feeling then they will fall short, but I enjoy both quite a bit. Just keep playing while keeping in mind they aren't supposed to be the same. If you can't enjoy it than it's whatever, no need to feel like you should be enjoying it.

>>167992012
>how good is guaranteed to hit anyway in a game of rng and chance?
Hmmm...
>>
>>167992012
Guarantees are an exceptionally rare commodity. Plus, given higher base damage of gunner's weapon plus center mass which you should be picking up, and you often have a free kill button for dangerous enemies.

>>167991568
Yeah I agree with you, suppression is still a very good utility but more importantly this will continue to disincentivize combat. And while stealthing around certainly can be fun I'm personally not the biggest fan of it in an xcom game.

>>167991975
Yeah I don't get it.
>>
>>167992093
>blow half your ammo guarantee hitting one ayy

vs.

>blow half your ammo to drop a fat deuce on any shooters and ability users in a million tile radius

There are better class options for single target removal, just bring one of those and use it well.

>>167990441
>we want the le reddit xD meme audience

Lump belongs in a death camp.
>>
>>167992416
Sometimes it's time to suppress. Sometimes it's killing time. Not every enemy can't be properly locked down by suppression. I often take multiple gunners, and flashbangs fill the same role as well.

>>167992418
https://youtu.be/wXkSMvHv3XM
>>
>>167992418
Why would you think it's not real? Long War has always been Artificial Difficulty the mod, but with 30% legitimately good ideas in it.
>>
>>167992780
LW's difficulty and nerfing of alphastrike tactics would be fine if they could figure out the magic way to somehow make injured soldiers not be a lose-more penalty. It seems like they tried to mitigate this with free bonus armor and more armor upgrades through the game, but that shit's too expensive and it's still unreliable compared to spending all your dosh on kill-faster tactics.

I mean even the first armor costs 50 supplies??? Fuck that I'd rather toss sniper rifles on rookie AWC trainees and do some extra missions.
>>
>>167993161
Correction 30 supplies and 5 alloys. Honestly the alloys are worse in early game, since they really compete with weapons.
>>
>>167993161
One problem I think is that individual soldiers are really valuable, certainly more than in LW1. No fatigue means you don't need X copies of the same build, infiltration mechanics let you cycle in your best dudes way more, AWC perks are an additional investment, squad bonuses for missions with an officer, etc...Still the ultimate difference between new and old com, where everyone was expendable.
>>
>>167993570
Well you can buy replacements pretty cheap and reliably from the black market, so the can really help with your roster
If you ever had any supplies
>>
>>167993830
>>167993570

Personally I like the squad bonuses making individual soldiers more important. I just think there needs to be a mechanic that someone can invest in that, even on-paper, looks as good as alphastrike strats. And no, this does not translate into "better medkit heals" or something abusable like "medkit heals remove injury time." I can see what they were trying to do with armor upgrades but it just isn't cutting it imo.

Also other tactical changes have really made things narrowers in the tactical department. Good luck getting in a firefight that lasts longer than one turn when every explosive you use pulls every squad running at you from every corner of the map. The whole tower assault mission is basically "hope you trained lots of assaults and shinobis: the mission"

Its worth it.

No time limit so you can be tacticool in an entrenched spot and eliminate the enemies as they come to you.
>>
>>167995061

I'm curious. Almost a year on, does ANYONE have this game not perform like trash?

Even on absolute minimal settings, i7 2700K, 16GB RAM and a GTX 1060 6GB, it will consistently be around 20 FPS on certain missions like base assaults, and still suffer heavy drops on other normal missions. It makes no sense.
>>
>>168001470
>https://steamdb.info/app/268500/dlc/
if it really is an expansion, shows how good of an idea it was to release LW2 to draw interest back into the game again.
>>
>>168002156
Sounds more like a problem on your end, I run on an i5 and a GTX760 on a mix of med/low settings and get 60fps a vast majority of the time. Do you have a bunch of mods installed?
>>
>>168002156
I have it maxed out with a 980, 16GB of RAM and an i5-4690k with consistent frames except when I do something like collapse a building

Even with my last card I never got that abysmal of a framerate. I have no idea why that is happening.

for reference the most framekilling settings I know of are
>MSAA
>SSAO
>Depth of Field
>Screen Space Reflections
>>
>>168002156
The only time I have issues is when the skyranger returns from a mission, and loading times on LW2 are pretty lengthy. Other than that though, I get smooth framerate with maxed out graphics.

>>

>How good is the dlc? How do I even access dlc?

The DLC are basically mission packs to get us by until the expansion pack comes out, but they're pretty cool. They both add new mechanics to gameplay along with a slew of new items.

You can choose to activate the story elements before you start a game, otherwise you'll just have the new content available via research/whatever.
>>
Do you need to kill all the Turrets to clear a base? Or is there a pack hidden away that I need to slay?
>>
how do you use early game snipers in EW?

Do you just leave them to hang back while your conga line moves forward? Because whenever I try to get high ground my guys already kill all the ayys before she can even start shooting. Or there's an over watch trap and she can't get into position to shoot, OR she activates a pod getting to a vantage point.
>>
>>168008620
If you haven't activated a turret, you don't need to kill it to for missions completion.

So, I was going to ask the question "what do I do now?" because I've literally been waiting in game months for something to happen. Apparently I cannot access this shadow project.

It seems like I need to do an avatar autopsy but because I don't seem to have an avatar corpse in my inventory. I remember the mission I killed him on but I'm pretty sure it was one of those missions where you don't recover corpses on the ground.

Am I overlooking something or am I fucked? Is it possible to get another avatar to spawn?
>>
>>168013527
The Avatar corpse, like codex corpses, is collected regardless of mission type. Have you done the gateway, forge and blacksite missions, and all research?

Man I keep breaking my mods but they used to work so now I have to figure out which mods are causing issues out of the 50+ (mostly cosmetic and quality of life shit).

Also fuck man, I spent literally hours creating a dozens strong roster of people using all those cosmetic mods.
>>
>>168013527

Well i'm pretty sure if you didn't have an avatar corpse the avatar corpse text would be red, you can check your inventory to see if you have one.

Also it says right there that you need to complete all other shadow projects first.
>>
Is there anywhere I can find a list of what corpses are used for in LW2? Sectoid corpses are going for 20 now but I don't want to find out later they're used for something I really need.

>>168015314
I'd stick to one or two nice cosmetic mods unless you have a powerful PC. If you've recently been installing and uninstalling a lot of mods make sure you delete your configs and go through and unsub/resub all mods afterward. It's a pain in the ass but it got lw2 running bug free for me when nothing else would.
>>
>>168015886

It tells you in the Black Market, unless that's another mod i'm using with LW2, in which case, there is a mod that adds a tiny exclamation mark next to a corpse in the black market and hovering over it tells you what uses a corpse has, i mean, i know for sure that's a mod but i'm not sure if i'm still using that mod or if it's just a function that LW2 has.
>>
>>168016004
I had to stop using that one because it was causing a bug with LW2. Probably won't install it again until end of this campaign. Wish the devs would update the wiki but I guess working on patches does come first.

I can see the corpse in my inventory by tygan does not have a research option for me. I'm going to try and dev console it because I dont want to kill hours of work.

I have nothing to research and apparently there are more shadow projects, but they simply are not available to me.

It also seems like I still need to do find the forge and blacksite vial, however I am not sure how to do this. I've been running around like a headless chicken for the last 2 months of the game trying to see if anything would happen but nothing, just a bunch of "save the VIP" or "raid advent convoy" missions. I'm pretty confused right now. Worried that LW2 somehow fucked up and made me do missions in the wrong order causing the story progression to lock up.

>>
>>168027925

Alright no more memes, after the release of Sparks not much happened for a while, some good and decent mods came out but i don't think there's anything in particular that would wow anyone, the A Better Advent mod got pretty good though.

I don't remember if LW had already release their second batch of mods, which were a new tier of weapons, a bunch of new aliens, and new perks that were pretty OP for the vanilla game.

Then the most recent thing is that LW2 came out, it drastically changed the game as expected, some people love it, some people hate it, most people use other mods without because it's too magnificent. Beagle did quit on LW2, he made a huge post on Reddit explaining why LW2 wasn't for him.

The biggest complaints about LW2 are timers and "stealth", you see, in LW2 you have to "infiltrate" soldiers on a mission before launching, which basically means that you "discover" a mission, which has an expiration date, say, 5 days, 7 days and so on, you select your squad, and depending on how many soldiers you have and what types of weapons you have and other things, it changes how long it takes for those soldiers to "infiltrate", how long you infiltrate changes how many enemies there are, how long it takes to extract, how many reinforcements you get and most importantly in LW2, how long the timers are.

LW2 comes with new maps, and some maps are ridiculously huge, literally the largest sized maps they could make(according to Lump), which means that many times, you have to avoid engaging in firefights in order to complete the objective and evac before the timers run out. And a lot of people don't like that.

That said, there are mods that change such things now, so whatever. My personal opinion is that LW2 is a pretty decent addition to the game, just need some mods to make it less stupid, for example, they did fix the whole "alpha trike the ayy or die" thing, the only problem is that if there are timers you still have to alpha strike them or lose.

What do you guys take at staff Sgt for Shinobis?

This guy's a stealth build, with line wolf instead of shadowstep.

Shadowstrike/evasive/blade master are all appealing. Evasive not really actually.

I tend to be kinda aggressive with my Shinobis if I'm actually fighting the mission, which is why blademaster looks neato. Is it bugged though?
>>
>>168030808
If you have tactical suppressor mod, shadow strike is godly. If not, I just feel bad for you son. Blademaster is ok for a full on swords guy, I wouldn't take it on a stealth guy.

I've usually gone for Shredder because in the base game i found myself really needing the armor shreds on hard targets and I decided that LW2, if anything, would pile on armor pips on hard targets because of magnificence. Should I retrain my gunners? How much armor is in LW2?

It's not a bad thing to have shredder on one or two gunners, its mostly mechanical things like turrets and mecs that stack armor but advanced mutons and advent will have some, and dark events can stack more.

I usually rely on grenadiers/technicals to do my shredding, using gunners as a suppression class instead.

So can you make a full Advent squad then?

I guess the commander would be a Specialist with the more team support focuses abilities rather than hacking, with Officer Training School perks

Stunlancer would be an arc-thrower Assault

Gunner would be a gunner obviously.

Engineer would be a Grenadier.

Rocketeer would be a Technical specced into rockets of course.

Sentinel would be a ranger.

What would the Gunslinger be? I guess there really isn't a gunslinger class in LW2? So Shinobi specced into pistol skills via AWC?

Psi-op could be an Avatar.

Reprogrammed MEC as Spark

Does Advent have a sniper?
That would make a full 10 person team.

ugh this turned into a disaster. Very Light extraction turned into a long-range slog because the aliens wouldn't leave each other's company and found heavy cover. A flashbanged Muton critted Gameshow through cover for an instant kill. Then Wildcat got minimum damage on a Fleche and left an officer with 1 HP, while Wildling missed a 78% flank shot. The two survivors sent him to bleedout.

I got the VIP out safely and recovered Wildcat just in time.

Probably should have taken laser weapons, but I needed them for heavier engagements and I thought the team could handle a Very Light.

I find playing without commander's choice to be a lot of fun exactly for these situations, although that soldier sounds like a good gunner. They don't need aim, they get health from the class, and if he lacks both then he's stacked in will or mob which are both great for gunners.

At least the one I ran into had 37 health and 4 or 6 armor.
It gets a free turn every time you shoot it. The first time it moves, the second time it shoots. It usually hits for 10~12 HP and since it always moves into position first, every shot is a guaranteed hit with high crit chance.

>>168069958
You shouldn't assume so much and call others retards for no real reason. I have tons of other games to play after this.

Try to have 3 grenadiers on your first missions. They're the best in early game and useful for a long time.

There's no reason to not mod XCOM 2 when you're only going to do the campaign once.
>>
>>168070757
>(((modders)))

Never again. It's a really big issue that no one wants to actually call out. Once a modder learns how to actually change gameplay properties, he often desires to change as much as possible, because of course he knows better than those silly developers. Not that I am defending Firaxis, I think that EU and 2 are garbage games with only style and visuals going for them, not having any more depth than an android game. EW was actually a great piece of game design to build ontop of EU, but everything else they've done, gameplay wise, has been moronic or intentionally pandering to morons. Modders don't have the budget and time to extensively playtest and none of them have even a casual background in design. It's like a dungeon master putting the party up against a dragon at level 1 or letting the party get to epic leves within the first two sessions. Hurr durr big numbers means design, if you don't like it, you just suck, please support me on Patreon, if you leave a mean comment, you're racist.

seriously what the fuck....
I was playing on veteran, because I'm actually a veteran within xcom
but this isn't fun, this is very much a retarded game
the "concealed tactics" are just to fool that you could play stealthy
soon a dozen enemies appear that are at least equally good as your soldiers
>>
>Start mission with meld close by
>Overwatching in group
>Floater comes out of the black, gets killed
>Another comes out, and automatically shoots an assault with a crit. ( I don't understand how)
>Sniper panics to be useless.
>Make other assault go behind meld for cover, activates another floater group
>Right click to collect meld HAHA NO THAT WAS ACTUALLY A MOVE ACTION FOR SOME REASON
>Activates a floater group moving two tiles.
>Make support go behind a car, she activates a sectoid group.

Long story short, everyone died on my third mission.
>>
>>168080352

There is no stealth in vanilla xcom2

concealment is merely a mechanic that allows you to ambush on the first engagement at your choosing

if you are trying to sneak around the entire map you are undoubtable activating every single pod on the map which is guaranteed failure

the key to xcom 2 is always only fight one pod at a time
>>
>>168080352
are you playing vanilla?
>>
>>168080352
You're fundamentally playing wrong. Veteran on vanilla XCOM 2 is absolute baby mode. Commander is the way it's meant to be played and still easy, but at least does not cheat in your favour.

Gatecrasher and maybe the first few missions can possibly give even the best players some trouble because of low aim and options limiting alpha strikes, but beyond that point, it's not abnormal to have ayys never take a single shot at you if you know what you're doing.

>>168080492

So I have to ask, any of you faggots actually played Ufo afterlight or Ufo aftershock?
old games, tailored to what real time xcom was supposed to be like

imagine really good tactics, the possibility to be real stealthy and use real overwatch...
such a shame it turned out to be boring, mostly because many repetitive missions
>>
>>168082807
I played one mission of afterlight. It looked goofy, the controls were autistic, and it generally came off as an amateur game.
>>
What if the LW2 devs are aware of new features in the upcoming DLC/Expansion, and the mod is so unbalanced because some of it is built around the Expansion, and they don't want to tweak shit just to revert it back when the official content comes out?
>>
>>168082807
>real overwatch
Literally my only gripe with OG XCOM

Establishing overwatch on missions was tedious. I wanted standing firefights triggered by chained reaction shots, too
>>
>>168083851
Than they are playing 4d chess right in front of us and we don't even see it
>>
>>168080492
>>
>>168082913
aftershock is a bit better, has a more rustic feel to it
you can level soldiers and train them as you like
you get more soldiers as replacements from the ones that die, different squad sets and good stuff
youreally have to manage as ammo, grenades and everything counts as inventory

I did play afterlight till the end though, and it was pretty decent, doesn't look like much but its more polished and more simple
both of them have weird controls, and basically mandatory to remap keys

the big downfall from both of these games is that you have lot of missions
but the maps are all very similar, so its gets on rut quite fast ( not really that bad considering these are games from 2000 or something)

>>168083856
like >>168084753 shit happens, lolz
but on the ufo series you actually have overwatch since its real time, one guy stands to shoot while the other moves,
the enemies actually walk all around the map so they can also sneak up on your behind,
and like wise you can lure them into a crossfire trap
one of most missions I had was hunting down some aliens in a base with tight corridors, literally checking up corners and whatnot, there was this one alien who walked all around and nearly caught my back

Yeah, this whole "modders deserve to be paid" campaign is scummy as fuck. Not only that it's obvious that Valve and developers want to get their hands on some of that action, but the idea of mandatory mod payment would ruin modding. Mods will become Early Acces DLC components with the same level of accountability as kickstarter/patreon projects. We already know how awful Early Access is usually, paid mods would only be worse.

>I don't ask for much. Putting more effort into a stream than just playing overwatch with your "wife" would be enough. I wonder I I should say something because I'm starting to wonder If I was wrong about Beagle course correcting.

I appreciate the feedback both OTOH you don't have to notify me on at least this particular issue. Truth is it's not that I'm not aware of it, it's that with LW2 being a crapshoot, problems with the other X2 modset I wanted to run, and a lack of pretty much any other game that I really enjoy right now, I'm in a gaming rut that I'm stuck deciding how to get out of.

I'm not doing bare-minimum-effort Overwatch streaming because I think that's the best quality I can give people, I'm doing it because I don't have anything else I feel interested or proud enough to do right now and I'm scrambling to try and find something.

X2 has been a complete and utter bust for me, people will lose their shit if I start a new X1 LW1 campaign before continuing the existing one, the existing one is a lategame nightmare I can't remember how to play without flushing that campaign down the toilet, there's nothing out there in tactical FPS that I actually enjoy these days, Star Cit's new update was a bust, everything just kind of sucks right now. I'm just honestly trying to find something I really love so that I can show it to people on YT and Twitch the way I loved showing X1 and LW1 to people.

having been through the ini i'm not sure how much you can really delay avatar by raising resistance threat, it only gives you a 10 hour delay for every point global vigilance is above global advent strength. if you've got good coverage of havens it may be viable, or if you get lucky with what the havens do before you make contact, but otherwise you'd just be pulling way too much heat

I think with all the new mechanics, it will be really difficult for LW2 team to find balance.
>HP
Rather managable in base LW2, enemies don't ramp up too hard. Large HP is only made unbearable in the lategame, if you get some unlucky dark events that boos their other defensive stats even higher.
>Armor
Still manageable, it can be dealth with. In vanilla, too often you would blow enemies cover away with explosives anyways, removing their armor in the process, making it a bit too easy mechanic to remove.
>Passive Defense
Fine for enemies whom do not utilize cover and would otherwise be just HP tank bitches. Some enemies are hard targets, flying, moving constantly. Relatively reasonable stat once you think it trough.
>Dodge
A nice little additional stat, creates the reality where no every shot is a perfect hit. But then again, we have weapon damage spread, and defense. The stat that can most ruin your shit, due to being an additional rng layer, turning even a certain hit into a potentially meaningles action.

honestly i think one thing that would help a lot with long war would be the ability to set tactical and strategic layer difficulties separately. that way if you've got an issue with stealth you can lower strat difficulty and take missions that let you infiltrate proper squads, and at the same time you could build up to the higher strategic difficulties while on a lower tactical difficulty to get a chance to learn all the stuff that isn't explained

I really think the lack of time units and proper LoS and cover and projectiles really screws the game up. The reason it tends to feel like your just grinding missions is because all the missions feel the same because they might as well be. The map is just visual. The actual layout doesn't really matter because ultimately high cover is high cover and half is half and your units can always see the enemy if they're in range. It makes no difference what the terrain is or if you're in a city or a forest because it's all the same shit. You really are just taking turns rolling dice, except for when you use abilities like grenades.

>inb4 overwatch traps
>>
>>168121419
Early game LW2 depends entirely on lucking out.

If you don't set all your starting resistance members on intel, you fail.
If you don't get a certain amount of missions in your home continent (and succeeed at those mission) then you fail.
If you take too many wounded? You fail.
If dark events proc in regions beyond your control in the first few months, you fail.
Can't stealth every early-game mission because patrols keep randomly pathing into your solo-shinobi? MIssion's gonna fucking fail, yo.

If you liberate a region but do nothing about a high-strength region directly next to yours, they'll launch an invasion and you'll fail.
Didn't root out the faceless in all your havens? Lack of supplies will cause you to fail.
On Legend, didn't expose the Avatar Counter within 28 days? Automatic fail.

>An Easier War

Adds a check at Resistance monthly reports that if a dark event is a tactical one (ie one that affects tactical gameplay, not strategic gameplay like haven infiltrators) and has lasted for over two months (this is configurable), that dark event should be forcibly cancelled.

This will also try to adjust templates so they are no longer infinite and can be repeated: this (AND ONLY THIS PART) only works in new saves however, LW2 didn't change how dark events are stored in the backend, and thus these changes don't work retroactively.

The following activities have also been adjusted:

COIN Research (tactical dark event creation) now follows the same creation rule as COIN Ops: they can only be made in alien controlled regions that have been contacted, not uncontacted ones.

Liberating a region will deactivate one tactical dark event. A new bool has been added to the config to decide if you want to keep infinite duration events and want this to be the main method of fighting these dark events.

To edit how long a dark event is allowed to last (and to disable the force cancellation feature on new campaigns) and other settings, go to (wherever XCOM 2 is installed)\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\854420428\Config\XComDarkEvents.ini

Question:

I've been looking at this game for a while, and it does seem like something I can get into
And when the modders started adding the tacticool outfits and weapons I was sold.
I seriously love that stuff, watching beagle do his short LW2 run with those outfits and weapons I was so excited.

My question is, is there any way to make those weapons, outfits permanent?
The later tier weapons and armour look so stupid I'd much rather play with my squad of SAS/DELTA/NAVYSEAL/SPETNAZ wannabes but of course the armour will be (stats wise) shit.
Is there anything that can fix that, or do the mods already come with that kind of feature?
>>
shootouts are tedious and boring
outcome is sure unless that lucky crit, can they even hit me flashbanged-full cover?

suicid advent is better, your overwatch will eventually fail and theyll hit you

this is why alphastriking everything was exciting, you wanted to avoid their retaliation

>>

Spooky XCOM mod/DLC when
>>
>>168133093
For the armor, yeah, you can just use "customise soldier" to use tacticool outfits, replacing the skin of later armor.

For the weapons, it's possible but slightly more complicated, you'd have to modify the values in the ini, if you want to use real guns skins. Alternatively there are some mods which make late game weapons look less science-fictiony.

Also I'd recommend using the uniform manager mod.

So, I was looking at the classic X-COM: Enforcer game and I got to thinking about how they could re-add this abomination into our lives.
My idea is to basically replace all the demons from the latest DOOM game with Ayys.
Thoughts?
>>
>>168145978

there's so many things that are inconsistent. like, they just need genetic samples, you dont need to melt people down into goop for that, so their initial objective makes no sense.

then i guess later they reveal that they also use the goop to make their soldiers and plug in the holes to make mutons and shit, which is again, so not how any of that works

then there's this super inconsistent level of threat, where all the rebels are living in shantytowns like its the post apocalypse, but as far as i understand, we kicked the aliens ass and then they tried to be our friends. did i miss the part where every major city gets nuked or something?

the awful writing and "hello commander" are just the cherry on top
>>
>>168146824
Nah man game 1 was simulation thing the aliens played on the commanders captured ass. Apparently the ran the simulation to make the programming for their own Ayydvent officers, the canon is that you lost game 1 in 2 months after just reaching lasers. Then the Ayys curbstomped the earth and built new cities namned after the old ones (this is why operations can happen in cities 100s of KM away from where firebrand landed) and told everyone to pls live there.
>>
I'm sure it's been asked 100s of times, but humor me please.

>>
>>168146824

The goop is just to make the avatar body.

Mutons and Sectoids and etc are just human hybrids

You didn't win, the aliens won, Xcom1 was a simulation inside commander's head because the ayys used him to program advent.

>Extend mission timers
>Increase extract to minimum of 3 turns (except for on Dark VIP missions)
>Dark Events are now regionally based and must be moved around by the strategic AI
>Liberating a region lets you do missions to remove Dark Events
>Mission breakdown is now roughly 50% hard timers and 50% soft timer and no timers
>few odds and ends tweaks
LW2 is now fun, It's so close, but the devs probably won't ever move in this direction, so someone else is going to have to make the changes.

I really hope for a interequal is made inbetween Xcom and Xcom2 Maybe based on Terror of the Deep with a greatly expanded back and forth talks between Shen and Vhalen.

Any cutscene with them talking with each other was great.

put a soldier on haven, it will flush out the faceless
youll get a mission to kill them with the haven dudes

interesting isnt it
these guys can take down a bunch of advents
but drop their pants and weapons on haven siege
>>
>>168155845
>haven sieges will never be your extra reinforcements and the entire haven personell in a huge fight against a huge enemy ADVENT force
fuck
thanks for the help tohugh
>>
>>168155840
>Terror from the Deep interquel

I also like how XCOM split into Vahlen's remnants in the Artic or something and Shen's remnants on an old nuclear submarine

Swarming missions are basically impossible late game. Just sectopods, Muton elites, andromedon and gatekeepers
>>
>>168153813
i get the idea behind it
its nice
but the way the detection goes makes it a horrible mess
dont show me missions i cant take, dont show me solo missions, i dont want to do them

i will sneak and evac out against a superior enemy, but dont make me bring less than 4 dudes when i have 20
>>
>>168150781
>using public trackers
>year of our lord 2017

son

you got issues
>>
>>168156018
much worse
youll have to collect your dudes out in the wilderness
then when its 1 to evac, you count only 5 and find the last one far faar away hiding
>>
What happens if you skip a data tap protection mission in LW2? One just popped up for me but there's zero chance of success, everyone competent is infiltrating and there's no gear left but the basics. Do all the rebels on the mission just auto-die?

help, i got a "destroy alien relay" mission, 15 days infiltration.
i could send a full squad, or i could send 7-10 people and get 200% infiltration
which is the better option?
>>
Is kill zone still janky in LW2? And does using it count as overwatch for purposes of triggering rapid reaction?

I remember trying to use kill zone on snipers in vanilla and 90% of the time it gave one shot maximum.

>Pigeons can break concealment.

>>168153813
Yes. If this was to really work, an entirely new stealth component would have to be designed. Being able to throw a shaped charge or manipulate line of sight isn't really "stealth", it's just exploiting the game's limitations and simplicity as long as possible.

Stealth feels more like turning one of the game's shortcomings into a feature

infiltration is always better
>>
>nerf alpha strike capabilities
>change the core game mechanics so that alien patrols are more likely to come at you after you start shooting

what a magnificent design.

wait, whatnow? give me my mec you fucks, the haven is a shit anyway.

What would be better;

A special sniper rifle skill that takes a turn to lock on with a guarenteed hit and high crit even behind walls and enemies you haven't seen yet. Would have a 4 turn cooldown.

Or can shoot aliens behind walls with a -15 aim per wall between you and the target?
>>
>>168158834
That's a late game v. early game perk question.
>>
>>168158685
it spawns during haven attacks

Can always be useful, except when on cooldown.
>Or can shoot aliens behind walls with a -15 aim per wall between you and the target?
Only useful if your sniper has high aim.
