This actually should be a option in Stellaris - having refineries that turn biomass(food) into minerals or energy.

>>
>>167978118
Not much of a difference really. I think statistically they're slightly better late game when you get kinetic artillery, but you can change over to that anyway.

Countering ship type makes a bigger difference. I just like the look of guns over lasers.

>You were able to capture all infantry in this game, only Colonel Burton was not able to be captured. Most of them have unused surrender animations and voices for surrendering. Each faction had their own way of capturing infantry:
>America used the flashbangs to collect prisoners of war. Some removed voices for the Ranger directly reference this. The POW truck took them to the detention camp, where they powered up the CIA Intelligence special power.
>China used stun bullets to collect prisoners of war, which were removed from the final game. The POW truck took them to the Propaganda Center, where they powered up the Defector special power. This special power, removed from the final game, converted enemy units to your side.
>The GLA used tranq darts to collect prisoners of war, which were removed from the final game. The POW truck took them to the Prison, a building which was completely removed from the final game. There, it powered up the Demoralize special power, which made enemy units fire at only one fourth their normal rate.
>>
>>167981649
>Walls were planned for this game, just like in the first Command and Conquer game. They were removed, presumably because they needlessly slowed down an otherwise fast-paced game.
>There are various straight and corner pieces for walls for all factions, as well as selection pictures and tooltips. Presumably you would build the walls using the removed line build feature, which allowed you to build buildings along a straight line. Each faction got a specific wall; according to the tooltips which are left in the game, they were as follows:
>America got a security fence. It blocks vehicles from passing and triggers an alarm if enemy infantry tries to pass it.
>China got a concrete wall, which just plainly blocks troops from progressing.
>GLA got a burning barricade. This one does not really block anything, but the fire damages units passing by.

Fuck you for removing these. I like walls.

>Always come back to F.Indvidualist/Materialist Indirect Democracy or F.Spirituralist/Collectivist Plutocratic Oligarchy because anything else is just dumb and suboptimized

FUCK. I wish the other ethics/government actually played differently, because as is there are only 2 builds in the game and choosing anything else cripples you for literally no benefit/fun. For example pic related is the best build in the game and any deviation from it hurts you.

Like, why did they make the bottom row have the best government forms, when it's available for everyone? Shouldn't you lock away the best governments behind shit ethics for balance (aka, how pacifist worked in the past)? This is driving me insane.

>>
>>168007531
Oh come on 3.75 is best.
>>
Sooooo...
Auto-cannons or plasma throwers?

I heard plasma throwers are the best thing of ever but right now it says my level 3 railguns are better, AND cheaper. Auto-complete gives me one of each, level 2 plasma, level 2 auto-cannon, and level 3 railgun.

And my auto-cannon gives my ship such a bigger "damage". My combat speed is pretty high so I can't imagine the difference between starting to fire at 40 distance as opposed to 20 being the selling point.
>>
>>168005016
Well.
You're trait choices ARE shit.
Talk about sub-fucking-optimized.
>Warp
>>
>>167993638
The other one is way less dense so you need bigger shoes or you fall right to the core.
>>
>>168009328
You typically want the longest range weapon to do kinetic and then everything else plasma. Short range kinetic weapons are a bit pointless. You use kinetics to strip the shield from range and plasma up close to cut the fuckers open. So Railgun, Plasma, Plasma.
>>
>>168010403
Oh. I'll try that but my railguns only have 5 more range than plamsa. They do fire a bit faster so hopefully that makes the difference.

Also doing the corvette spam to see if that works. Pretty neat seeing the first few volleys completely miss. But then it's sad when the next one all connects and it explodes without a chance.
>>
>Stellaris
Why are people playing that over distant worlds?

Distant Worlds is technically a better game than Stellaris (for now), but is let down because:

>It looks "basic" as everything is just 2D top-down images with rotation
>It looks a ton more complicated, and that's offputting for some
>In fairness, there are some things in DW that just work in a retarded over complicated nonsense way
>Zero race customisation
>Zero terraforming
>Bugs which will never be fixed because the devs are more interested in other things
>It costs a fucking fortune outside of the sales, which are short and barely advertised

I love DW, but fuck is it flawed.

It's a shame most missiles are one-shot deals.
It is amazing weaving through a cloud of missiles like that, with stuff flying and tracking in all directions. But only 1 kind of missile can do that without diving into the tables and changing things. Pilum

And it is highly unlikely to change away from that because "muh balance!" in a single player game is apparently critical.

I'd much rather have shit flying all over the place from both sides.

Friendly reminder that Stellaris was done in spare time by mostly some interns and other monkeys for some quick cash that suppose to help new Hearts of Iron development(Paraducks one of the main titles).
It was expected to earn some money, test some features and check market(as Paradox was afraid touching space 4x games after SOtS II disaster - fuck you mecron) and share fate of similar fast made and fast abandoned games like Sengoku.

Surprisingly for Paracucks there is actually great need for good 4x space games and they hit gold mine.
That is why we get Wiz and other faggots flexing their muscles now(and why HoI and other games slow down). Its just Stellaris earn these fags a tons of money.

It can be modded so they all can happen and even when repelled they can happen again.

More I look at ethics, more they not make sense.
And now they change ethics that actually make sense.
Spiritualist - Materialist
Collectivist-Individualist
These are OK.
Militarist-Pacifist should be changed to Expansionist-Isolationist
and some traits should be added like Militarist Society, Warlike or Pacifist(which grant some bonuses)
Xenophobe-Xenophilia should change into Hierarchism(or Supremacy)-Egalitarianism with Xenophilia and Xenophobe made into traits
That would make much more sense.
You could have then Isolationist Collectivist Supremacy or Collectivist Expansionist Egalitarians with traits adding some more flavors.
Also there should be manpower so you can man ships by different species(with different bonuses) and traits affect fleet effectiveness.

Probably, I just find it weird that they make a perk deep in the tree that is so obviously unfathomably outclassed by other trees. I mean, you need to have a science officer that you put on a planet to assist research, and then, and only then, does it give you 10% increased happiness for that planet only.

It's a perk that is just so obviously underpowered because you do have a very direct means of comparison that I don't get how this happens in the first place. The rest of the tree doesn't sound great either, but at least they're effects where it may be harder to compare how useful they are.

>>168064035
How many people does each tile represent? I think in the lore, the human colony ships held 250 million, and each colony ship brings over one colonist tile so we could assume that. But I think it would be reasonable for earth to support 16 billion people, and in game earth is typically 16-18 tiles so maybe 1 tile = 1 billion people? So each ring world would have a population of 100 billion. thats a lot.
>>
>>168064502
Well, Niven's ringworld is equal to ~3kk earths, and having 60kk+ tiles in a single system would be a bit imbalanced, yeah.

>>168064836
It's how the map is displayed. In Stellaris, the buttons for it are toward the bottom right hand corner, slightly left of other buttons. In most Paradox games, they're above the minimap in the same corner. They basically just color the map according to things you might want to know, and make it easier to play a more complex game.

Mines on a ring world you built yourself is utterly retarded btw. You should just build Factories on the thing like the Fallen Empires do. Or if the game had more than 2 fucking resources + political mana further refine raw minerals into other materials.

Would be a sizeable improvement. I mean generic "Minerals" and "Energy Credits" (combining both money and energy reserves into one resource is also stupid btw but whatever) are all fine and good for like the first tier of resources. All of those strategic resources should be included in a reserve as opposed to just needing one and you can trade the other units of it.
I.e. :You have 20000 units of Teledar crystals and each ship you build required 5/50/500/5000 units of said crystals for the Kinetics buff on its guns. Or you have the Galranthium Ore stockpile that requires
>insert increasing numbers here per ship class
to give the 10% hull buff.

Having too many different minerals wouldn't be good. I say that using Deadlock 2's approach would be better.

Alright, I need someone to help me with my game in Stellaris, specifically, colonizing.
How fast should I colonize? Is this literally civ 5 where you get 4 stars and call it quits? Should I do it in waves? Should I try to make my borders touch as much as possible for future unique resources?
Is it fine if my borders don't really touch and my "empire" is 4 or 5 circles?

Because I'm put off from war. I don't see any point in conquering planets if their pops raise your tech cost and don't give you anything in return except rebellion.

I'm open to any and all suggestions. I really don't want to wait until the end when I have infinite minerals and energy, and 100 research in everything to start doing stuff.

Tall is a meme in 4x.
Even in Stellaris it is.
Go wide and go fast or go home.
>bigger navy limit and energy and minerals to supply and build it > technology
You can always scavenge it from enemy wrecks.
Also you don't have penalty for labs in a sector so just build some small planets with labs and throw it in one big lab sector with governor who have bonus science trait.

No, the bigger empires are always ahead technologically as well. There's a scaling penalty based on your planets and population, but it doesn't overcome the fact that the larger empire can have entire fully-developed science planets with science ships on top, and other positives of being big.

deviants because divergence is literally irrelevant with fanatic individualists

elections means you can invest ~200 influence at one election to guarantee that your favourite leader (goals) will get elected every time until he dies

repugnant is shit because it lowers outputs by a %

slow learners is irrelevant since you will have max level leaders all the time by mid game

This playthrough was so peaceful until the medieval era. Since then it's been constant war. First Mongolia from the Indian subcontinent DOWd me despite my cities being in impenetrable mountain ranges. I wiped them out and left one city as a vassal but then Bluetooth DOWd me.

Denmark was on the other side of the map so I didn't worry, but wouldn't you know he nonetheless started funneling troops into my territory. So once the war with Mongolia was all done I took a few of elite troops into Zululand to take on Danish forces. They pushed me back so I had to wait until my elite canons upgraded into artillary.

I pushed them back with everything I got. I was able to hold the line behind a river in Zululand and started making progress once Austria and the Zulu joined the fight against Denmark. I was steamrolling him but then I realized that most of his forces had been diverted to wiping out the Spanish to the south.

I didn't think anything of it and only started buildign up a small force to repulse them but then Spain was vassalized the entire Indian coast was under threat. I set all my cities to building Fusiliers and had an army large enough to hold them at bay.

At that time though the Danish counterattacked my main assault into their territory with tanks. All I could do was plop down a citadel and rely on my artillary to snipe them.

Finally Harold gave me 64 gold for piece and I started rebuilding, but then the Zulu backstabbed me!

When you finish producing something, you often will have some left over production.

It's like 60-65% or so. And for some reason I can't find ANY information about this online.

There's not much too it the way I see it. Corvettes are useful (on their own so the can moooooooove) in baiting fleets or taking out stations whilst said fleets are entertained with something else (or at the worst, keeping your fleet power at cap as a detractor to being DOW'd) and for everything else you use Cruisers with plasma and Battleships with giganigga cannons and kinetic artillery. Range matters (on slow moving ships). Some will argue destroyers are useful as PD, I ask who gives a shit? AEs don't use rockets and you'd better have numerical or technological superiority before picking a fight with a rival empire that uses rockets. Or just some common sense in delaying the war until you do.

Keep settling planets and building your fleet cap, the AI can't really keep up with you balancing the power/mineral/tech. Keep your fleet at cap to discourage attackers. Once their capacity or fleet is "inferior", attack. Not much to it.
>>
The one thing that really turns me off to stellaris right now is the population slot management. It's fine when you have one or two worlds, but when you hit the sector cap, especially if you're using improved space battles and the stock cap is double, there's just too much micromanagement necessary.
>>
>>168105486

Stellaris would have had to have been great and gotten worse for that to be possible. Stellaris right now is the best it has ever been.

Banks/Utopia will improve it. The details of traditions are likely to be reworked two or three times before they become good, and I'm sure there'll be some weirdnesses with factions to sort out, but 1.5 will have a lot of big steps in the right direction.

Easy to talk, sure, but if I'm in charge, I put everyone designing more events (specifically more that trigger at a planets-you-own level so the endgame isn't such a bore) and 86 planet building/populating. The fun bit of the game is designing your "race" and acting out problems accordingly. Upgrading the nth fucking power plant on some nowhere 15 size arid shithole on the edge of the galaxy by year 2343 is hardly bloody interesting. Just let the underlings take care of that shit and let grorious reader be concerned with the big picture. Yeah, "influence" limiting colonization is crap. Have, iunno, your empire pay power or minerals to all empires you've met (or at least teh ones closest to it) for the privilege of taking a limited resource that doesn't technically belong to anyone. This way you're forced to focus on mineral/power production to go wide which then makes going tall not impossible/stupid. Makes about as much sense as "we wuz here furst" in 2250. This way you can veto others settling worlds in your vicinity by making ludicrous demands which then have diplomatic consequences, which according to alliances could trigger wars or disputes or even pop rushes or something.

Since you're using mods you'll also be using the graphicslib.
Do like this guy says and turn off some of the effects.
"enableBloom" is the big one to check first.

>>168085768
Starsector has a problem. And that problem is balance.
It is optimised for fleet battles with multiple supporting ships on both sides.
The effect this has is the early game is hard as fuck, like actually frustratingly monitor throwingly hard.

The thing to do is first, use the "easy" mode while you're learning how to control the ships.
You'll take less damage and it will give you time to recover from mistakes.

Second, try using the shift rotation. Like >>168090198
Hold the shift key and move your mouse, and your ship will try it's best to follow your cursor.
This allows you to fly the twitchy over-sensitive paper armoured frigates with some degree of finesse, and makes smooth moves a fair bit easier to pull off with practice.

Third, dump frigates. Leave them for your AI buddies.
Save up and get a destroyer ASAP, once you do this you'll notice the difficulty drop significantly.
Enforcer is the one to go for. Tough enough to facetank like a champ, fast enough to run if it needs to, and can mount amazing point defence.

Play like that for a bit, see how it goes.
And use save liberally. Don't be afraid to savescum if you're struggling.

Have fun and kill everyone!

Colonizing should require
- Colony ship
- One PoP that is loaded on the colony ship and transported to planet

And thats it !
You already have to pay for ship, for colony maintnance until it will become "real" colony, you have to defend it, improve, provide food etc.
Why the fuck you have to pay some abstract sum of mana to even land there ?

You know what would be interesting?
If you could negotiate planet colonization rights with other empires. That Desert world that a bunch of ocean world fishes can't use well and it's just inside their border? Pay them some influence upfront with a small monthly fee, a percentage of the planet's output, and they'll let you colonize that world.
>>
>>168108503
Man, the russian needs to do something about the early game. This thing is like Mount & Blade^10.

In M&B you start off shit but it's viable to buy/draft companions and you have low level bandits to face but most importantly, at skill 80 even with shit equipment, your character is essentially the same guy than at skill 350 with good equipment. You attack faster, can take more hits, can run slightly faster but is still functionally the same. And your equipment isn't that much of a difference comparatively.

Flying a shitty frigate with 0 points in the Red and Blue skills vs a level whatever character flying the same frigate with a bunch of points in those categories is not even remotely the same thing. Money is already a big difference maker since it limits the "equipment" you can get (which covers a much larger gap than M&B) and then when you add stuff like ship speed, maneuverability, shields, add-on points, flux cap, etc, it becomes overwhelming. And the game makes little to no concessions to the low level guy.
>>
>>168108991
>Why the fuck you have to pay some abstract sum of mana to even land there ?
There has to be some sort of deterrent to both make playing tall a possibility and to dis-incentivize mass landgrabs. Otherwise what's stopping you making your first few planets power centrals and taking everything around you then using that get a snowball win? Imagine it's the reverse. The AI is too busy landgrabbing to make a fleet so you DOW them and capture 3(?) planets. Why would they care about losing those if they can settle a lot more than 3 in the next 10 years?
>>
>>168109451
desu they could easily do the same but with exponential power requirement increases.
The AI colony tech would actually be valuable then.

>Otherwise what's stopping you making your first few planets power centrals and taking everything around you then using that get a snowball win?

Ability to actually DEFEND those planets ?
Massive financial strain on supporting the development of that planet ?
Better in depth terraforming to ensure that your colonist wont die of some virus or wildlife ?
Shitload of rebel/independence sentiments the further you go from Homeworld ?

Planting colonists asses on some dust rock with shotgun and tent hardly translates into OHMAYGAWD so powerful interstellar empire.

Thats why i love Aurora colonizing - way more indepth and simply fun than Stellaris.
>>
>>168109154
Cool. You can copypaste.

Now let me tell you why you're wrong.
Cargo missions are spawned by RNGeesus. Origin, destination, type, time limit, and size.
Most cargo missions are going to be way way too big to fit a starter ship.
The ones that are small enough are usually high-value stuff you can't afford to buy in the first place.
And a lot of the missions have a "10 day" limit which is essentially impossible to complete unless the destination is in the same system.
And to cap it off, when you accept the mission the RNG flips a coin, and if you "lose" it generates a pirate fleet to intercept you so you'll probably be fighting anyway.

Bounties are common as fuck.
There is always either a system offering a general bounty for anyone they don't like, or someone posting a specific kill order.
You don't need anything extra above what you start with.
And, the starting system has an active bounty running when you start the game so all you have to do is kick some babby pirates or join some fleet battles and you'll pull in around 30-50k.

tl;dr
For generating cash: Bounties > Everything else.

>>168109239
Frigates are shit.
Early game is needlessly hard.
It gets a little easier once you get another ship to help you fight - Aeroshuttles are good at being distractions and are fairly cheap.
It gets much easier once you get a destroyer and you can just stomp on frigates.
>>
Any rough idea when Utopia comes out?
>>
>>168108991
>Why the fuck you have to pay some abstract sum of mana to even land there ?
Freedom is restriction anon, limitations are what give you choice.

Limitations are roads, you can take many different paths to a destination, turning left or right, each limitation opens up a new expeirence. Complete freedom though? Its just a straight line. Sure you 'could' go anywhere, but to get to a place you want to go, you just go straight there, the same path, every time.

Limiting player choice is giving them the freedom to pick the single optimal path each time, Giving players choice is giving them restrictions to pick between.

Restrictions are choice, freedom is no choice, it is enslavement to optimization.
>>
>>168109676
You're forgetting you're not just getting the planet but all the resources around it.

But fine, let's say they change it so large empires become impracticable if you early massgrab. What is it you do when you reach midgame, sit on your hands and wait for buildings to construct? That's already a problem with the game, that there's hardly anything to do but war after a time. If you make early colonization impractical you're going to be doing it fairly late into the game which means the game's a lot less static from midpoint on.

Regardless, I think we're making a similar point here. Whether you create limitations to settling or pump up the factions and ethics divergence, you need to do something to make wide be harder or tall worth something. Or both. They could start by not tying fleet cap to space stations.
>>
>>168109676
This.
Could turn up the AI aggressiveness to see that, "Hey, this fucking idiot made a planet full of powerplants and killed all the 70" flying squid monsters with teeth for tentacles. I mean ofc you could implement simple trade routes. That wouldn´t even take a big patch.

That being said just having trade routes for the sake of it is retarded- Give me strategic/luxury ressources, give me outlawed goods

(like slaves, narcotics and black market weapons)

Give me trade federations and mega corporations.
>>
>>168111902
It's more likely that it is like the gold standard. Basically the money is an IOU that entitles you to some specified amount of energy in some specified form from the issuer (Government/Bank/Corporation).

It would be extremely unlike that any civilian would ever convert their energy credits to energy using the currency - it might not even be allowed in small amounts. If a civilian needed to buy energy, they'd use the credits to buy it from an energy company just like you'd buy anything else.

The difference to a gold standard is that there would not be some Fort Knox-like "energy reserve". Instead any redemption of energy credits would be done over time. In other words, it's not an IOU for immediate redemption of energy, but rather a promise to allocate some energy production over some time to the redeemer.

What I don't understand is that energy is reliable, but batteries aren't standardized. So if you give a AAA battery to an ayyy, it can't fit in his ayyy dildo.

>hey, I'm buying a prostitute in exchange for a piece of paper someone somewhere said has value
It's no less stupid than any form of currency. Assuming they haven't come up with a way to generate infinite power and that that AAA can keep her lights on, her entertainment system, food processor, electric dildo and so on working and she can discharge it to someone else's as payment, she made a good deal.

And if she's a synth you could probably get 2 blowjobs for that price. Hope she has a seat heater installed.
>>
>>168112634
>in exchange for a piece of paper someone somewhere said has value
Well, actually, bills have value, because the fabrication process is expensive.

They have less value than coins, but they're still valuable.

>>
>>168112830
But what bothers me is that you can still trade bills for other stuff. Battery... Well, I may be obsessed with it, but I don't see how you can trade energy between empires that may have completely different technologies.
>>
>>168112830
thing is, the energy stored in a battery decays over time
the whole reason gold is so valuable is because it doesn't rot, tarnish, or rust, ergo it can be stored for extended periods of time while hardly degrading at all
and on top of that, it can be melted down into coins and ingots and other such things and hardly has any practical uses as anything but currency, especially 1000+ years ago
>>
>>168112763

Hell no, majority of strat games I've played have had good UIs. SCoK has a absolute trash HUD. It looks like it's from a game released in the late 90s or something, and the game feels overall pretty lazily built. You don't notice it from the screenshot that anon posted, but once you get to play the game yourself it's immediately noticable.

Its development was also absolute shit. There's almost zero difference between the product a year ago and now at its released state. There are still unit cards that are carbon copies of eachother, and standard hotkeys are virtually non-existant.

It's a solid game and worth a playthrough once or twice, but after that it loses all of its appeal.
>>
>>168112830
>>168113162
Wait, I'm an idiot.

>talk about Startopia
>while saying energy isn't a valid money
You can just transfer energy instead of handling out batteries.
>>
>>168112425
This could be good if you add some kind of galactic market
>use 10 or so planets to produce and store energy
>value of energy credit drop to shit
>enemy fleet is stuck because energy they produce is worthless
and with free market options like in HoI it would be even better
>you can trade all of your energy credits
>you can trade energy not used by space stations
>you can trade energy not used by space stations and fleets
>stop trade
But it's paradox so it won't happen.
>>
>>168113162
And by that you mean today's batteries, not 2200s'. And even if 2200s' batteries DO drain, the "backer" can still be liable for it.

Regardless, that's besides the point. You're making the case for the gold standard which isn't even in use anymore. Sure, gold still has value, still can be useful as a mineral but the state doesn't insure it has enough of it to back every bill it prints. Whatever power currency is need be no different to fiat or whatever the hell that's called we use today.

Hell and if you can charge batteries with it and convert them for offworld usage, it can even be redeemed. Or you could just let the ayy plug its dildo into your wall socket for a few minutes.

My pet project is always terraforming Venus.
>>
>>168105707
>>168102579
My strategy centers around two types of fleets. Fast reaction and main.

Fast reaction fleet is made up of torpedo corvettes and cruisers, corvettes have afterburner and cruisers have double afterburners, result is a very speedy force (2.6 to 3+ speed) that can chase down anything. 100 torpedoes doing 300-500 damage each will do heavy damage to anything.

Main fleet is made up of destroyers and battleships. Destroyers have picket hulls (for point defense) and battleships are just mobile big-gun platforms.

Startopia was a bad economy. Single-resource economies don't work that well, especialy when they're regenerating

I know you have fond memories of C&C and so do I but really that game was almost an aberration, it's too easy to get stuck in a feedback loop where you're losing because of suboptimal harvester management with no way to recover. I know logistics is a part of war but C&C was never about logistics and it shows in its mechanics.

Market was the greatest invention in RTS of the past 30 years.

My guess is to have that colony still respect the crown.

Would be nice if it was possible to continue colonizing but it'd result in a vassal or even a hostile "rebel" colony. Low influence representing a decaying and unorganized empire that's in a state of collapse. Maybe have distant unhappy planets rebel if at negative influence.

Wrong Anon. I hate C&C because ressources are limited, there's only one of them, units are slow to build, there's only one active factory/barrack active at a time.

>Market was the greatest invention in RTS of the past 30 years
Ha, I see.
Startopia is not a RTS, and it's not meant as such. Energy isn't that important, but employees and buildings are far more relevant.
In strategy or tactic games, having several ressources is important (as much as I like Majesty, having only gold to worry about was annoying), but in city-building games, it's a bit more complicated.
I could object that medical supplies, food, alien goods and buildings in crates are ressources too.

>Market was the greatest invention in RTS of the past 30 years.
Not going to disagree with that. The market made Cossacks fun. Without it, I would constantly be out of wood and have too much stone/food.

First Galactic Civilization is simple, there is no custom shipbuilding, AI is kinda tame and won't rape you sideways like in GC2 or 3, planet management is minimal and you don't have to spam starbases everywhere to not get totally raped.

IT"S HAPPENING!

https://www.makewarnotlove.com/

Feb 14: you can vote to decide which games will feature in the Sega vs. Faction event on Feb 16.

Feb 16: In Sega vs. Faction, Sega community managers battle the faction champion of the voted-for game. The faction champ fights for 50 points and Sega prize bundle 1.

Feb 17: In Art Attack each faction creates a piece of artwork that will be shared to the Make Love Not War page. The community and Sega decides which piece wins the points and Sega prize bundle 2.

Feb 18: Factions run live-streams of their games. The faction that attracts the most views and engagements takes points and Sega prize bundle 3.

Feb 19: The grand final takes place at the Kensington Olympia during the PC Gamer Weekender. Here the two leading factions face off in one another's games to find out who will take the final points and Sega prize bundle 4. The winner also unlocks "very special digital content" for their factions' title.

To celebrate the event, a bunch of Sega's games will be discounted for the duration. Total War: Warhammer will be 33 percent off; Endless Legend will be 75 percent cheaper; and the Dawn of War and Company of Heroes series will be discounted by 80 percent and 75 percent respectively.

I'm doing my first iron man play through and I plan on finishing this one, normally I restart a game every 3 hours or so.

What type of government should I switch to? Reduced ship cost means reduced ship upkeep right? So is Military dictatorship better than military olicarchy? Military republic seems cool too role play wise, but I'm pretty sure armies and space stations are fuckin useless.

The other thing I was looking at is despotic empire for more border range.

Collectivist because every tropican comes together without question under the unequivocally great leadership of El Presidente.
Pacifist because fighting and unrest is unheard of in the tropical paradise that is Tropico.
And Materialist because there is never any shortage of food, housing, entertainment or luxury in the greates nation of the world, Tropico.

If any of you disagree you are welcome to visit the dungeon underneath El Presidente's palace for a reeducation course.

El Presidente is surely the one man to lead all of Tropico, collectively, to our glowing bright future.
We need not violence nor aggression to peacefully spread the greatness of Tropico, surely once the world see what El Presidente can achieve, there will be no need for the use of force.
The people of Tropico believe in nothing above our great El Presidente and the police will be informed if such sentiments are being spread.

The problem with a single-resource system is that either you have nothing with no way to get more, or you have too much and nothing to do with it.

I might have been too hard on C&C because at least with the early ones you could build factories to make your units spawn faster. In a game like Startopia you just sit there waiting for your energy reserves to go up.

And what if you build more power generators? Now you have lots of energy, and what? You can't build that medical bay you urgently need faster. You at least can buy supplies at 3000% markup price but you have to wait for the next ship to bring it. You have unlimited power and no way to use it.

That "El Presidente is scheduled to tour the United States to lecture on sustainable economical development and democratic ideals." line on the radio after the election always made me laugh. Main reason I played the game.

im so fucking sad hes gona nerf figtherswarms next update.

My playstyle was:
-get a shit shitp with a flightdeck
-get any and all fighters i can find
-have the fighters follow me, the flightdeck stay the fuck back
-proceed to wreck huge flleets wihtout losing a single ship (if all your fighters die, but you have an operational flightdeck remaning at the end of the battle, they will just regenerate like normal)

Doing hit and runs with a meduse was so satisfying: run in, unleash a salvo. this triggers my swarm of niglets to charge the fuck i just shot, and the volume of fire can easily overpower almost all cruisers and even some capitals, or at least leave them vulneratble for you to dance around it and shove missles up its bum. All the while absorbing most counterfire, then im free to peel off, and take out stragglers and deal damge in the chaos. If the swarm size dropps low, i retreat, wait till they are remade and do it again.
>>
>>168145624

I need to try that
I am running only a light carrier with 2 flightdecks but those things come quite in handy when attacking retreating ships
The rest of my fleet consists of 3 missle destroyers with my flagship being more of a long range laser support
>>
>Hunt down the filthy xenos in the planets that are under sector control so I can purge them
>Give the planet back to the sector
>They stop the purging as soon as I do it

>>
>>168146437
the more flightdeck you have the better, if all currently deployed member of a wing dies, the wing is "dead" for that deployment: they wont be reinforced even if they would if there were 1 of their members on the field. More decks help preventing it, and provide faster reinforments which can be handy in the meatgrinder.
Also, assaging them to follow your other key ships makes them a LOT more durable.

Endgame i usualy keep my medusa or ss+ equivalent, and have a 2-4 capitals, preferably with flightdecks, then split my swarm between the few of us. works like a charm.

The major con for the tactic is that many fighters and shit on screen RAPES your framerate.

Dictatorship beats Junta because you can rush a couple of outposts for the first strike instead of going straight away for planets. Its risky but worth it.

Keep the fleet low and then once you have level 2 weapons and one protection (armor or shield) upgrade the ship design, activate the planetary arms race edict and spam the crap out of corvettes.

Never assault an advanced AI on insanity though...
>>
>>168154268

Nvm, you want to change, not to start over.

Check how much you gain with expanded borders for star empire. If you think its not worth it just pick MegaCorp.
>>
So in stellaris what types of fleet should you build? just mass big ships?

I tried having a balanced fleet, then I went to clear out a 4k stack of energy balls that hang out around black holes. My corvets evaporated instantly, then my destroyers, but my big cruisers stay at range and fired down the aliens successfully. Am I suppose to mass like 50 corvets?

Fighters are getting a boost.
They're being changed into weapons systems so they don't count against the fleet limit any more.
And they won't eat through crew and supplies.

I can't wait for the next update so I can actually use fighters without having to dick around with the stupid CR/crew drain they have now.
>>
so plasma vs lasers, I can't really tell if one is a direct upgrade over the other or if it's just another coat of paint. I know it doesn't look as cool as a fucktillion lasers going off but I'm sure it's got some advantage to make up for it.

Pirates it is, time to get that increased boarding chance and get straight to looting and giving everyone the (D).

They look really nice and fly well too. I had a really easy start because of how good the Husky and bounties were for me. It got even better with how common EMP is in their weapons and that the kinetics are pretty efficient. It only got better with bigger ships and some beam weapons thrown in.

Both are definitely high on my backlog for factions to do a campaign for before 0.8, and I think I have enough time to do so too.

I have a grand idea to create a mod for Stellaris. This mod will be named- Waifu Dating Simulator. All species portraits will be replaced with waifus, who will be competing for the heart of the hot guy at the center of the galaxy. When you go to war, you will now be fighting for control of his heart! This could be a wonderfully over the top mod, and I think I can do it. Fallen Empires become various types of "childhood friend," including Spirtuals as that one crazy childhood friend who is literally insane for you, or the Keepers of Knowledge as a CF that has a bunch of your secrets. Techs become secrets, habitable worlds become his possessions, with Gaia worlds being extra special. I have to go back to work now, stay tuned for more elaboration on Waifu Dating Sim.

It's not worth keeping a thread alive if you're gonna bump it with shit like this.

There are a fair few more than that, they just hardly ever get selected. I've seen separatist mandates asking for certain systems to be independent before now and I know if you have a piss poor navy/are at war, you can get ones to build more ships. Shame they hardly ever happen.

/pol/ mod advanced version: all alien species are removed, and humans are split up by race and gender. So you could meet empires like "Asian Man Star Compact" and "Blessed White Woman Republic".

Already exists in the Workshop.
Just make a lot of custom empires and force them to spawn.

BUT THEY WERE RIGHT THERE!!!! WHY!?!?!?!??!?!

Also i never manage to rescue my pods in time, usually due to them being destroyed.

I think im in the perfect situation this stellaris run. Im between an empire of rape that likes me and empires that cant do shit. With no shortage of resources in my area im just teching up like crazy and saving money for when shit hits the fan. Im just waiting to see how im going to fuck it up this time

What's the point? Either you use your border extrusion and war minimally, or conquer fucking everything and don't bother extruding any more borders than tech gets you.

because I'm bad at the game and the one nation I allied with on the left outpaced me on military then allied everything around me. I'm still figuring out how the game works after having played it when it first came out and it was torpedo easy mode. regardless the situation I found myself in at least left me safe while I figure out what the fuck I want to do.

What kind of mods in Stellaris don't break acheivements?

furthermore I have no idea what to do with my battlship beyond autocomplete and pray for success.
>>
>>168188446
stellaris, assuming each pop = 1 billion

I'd be able to do it in distant worlds too but the only problem i have with distant worlds is you cannot control your population. i want optimal slave:spider ratios when i'm playing the dhayut. when i'm playing the boskara i could probably hit a trillion though.
