CVS2 was 13 frames for all of the booms. The highest startup is 24 in SFV.

So let me make this simple
>overall frames are almost the same
>recovery frames being shorter mean nothing in the time it takes to getting out a boom as you have to charge either way
>however this means you can block AFTER boom faster, but since overall frames is what matters when it comes to getting out of animation so you can block, again it means nothing

>longer startup frames means you're more vulnerable to getting hit on startup and less likely to get the guy in block stun

So sonicbooms are weaker in SFV. You should always take faster startup if you're a zoner.

Overall frames are the most important part because thats the overall time where you're exposed to jumps and anti fireball moves.

I only played USFIV at the end of its lifespan so I never really got became familiar with the rhythm of the game. How different is it to SFV? I reached plat and it seems like matches still just come down to knockdown -> setup or 50/50

I don't think my neutral game has improved at all. I play Vega and it seems like season 2 only further encouraged 50/50s with his new roll loops. I just played a couple mirrors with another Vega and the match came down to whoever guessed wrong on the roll loop. It feels like the different phases of matches are so distinct and they all come down to guessing right. I get that there's always an RPS aspect to fighting games but am I wrong in thinking that its much more prominent in V? I had more fun when I was getting rekt over and over whereas now I just follow my mental flowchart to a win.

Is the game like this even at diamond? Or should I just switch to something else. Thx for reading my blog

SF4 had some matchups that devolved to similar gameplay, but most of them weren't that simple and you had to work harder to get to the position where you could 50/50 them.
You should try some other fighting games where the RPS isn't so obvious and the skill comes from circumventing the RPS, not embracing it.

Despite people meming about vortex it was a lot less setplay heavy, especially in mid level play. Or at least you had different decent defensive options to chose from.
I'd say the quality of the overall midrange/footsie game improved over the months though, it feels a lot better to me nowadays. But once a person gets in it's just oppression session, that's just sf5.
