They were better overall for an overwhelming majority of the games lifespan.

Clans typically come with upgraded tech like endo/ferro/doubleheatsinks and engines. The costs even out once you upgrade shitty NiggerSphere mechs.

In tabletop Clan tech is objectively superior to Inner Sphere as well as harder to obtain for availability so has a higher battle value and C-bill cost. MWO keeps the price disparity between the tech bases while nerfing the Clans to some rough semblance of gameplay balance, but still failing in doing that. The only way the tabletop managed to do so over time was to give the Inner Sphere so much new and varied tech that the Clan equipment became stagnant by comparison, but by the most recent timeline in the 3150 era the Clan tech also expanded and now official Mech units are commonly built with mixtech anyway so as to make the whole thing a moot point.

MechWarrior 6 under a new developer really needs to break out in to the post FedCom civil war era and cover some timeframe between 3067-3150 to finally purge the Clan invasion imbalance from even being part of the game.

Except MW5 (and technically also Battletechâ„¢) effectively purges the Clan threat by placing it firmly in the 3rd Succession War with no chance of ever seeing clamtech.

Republic and Dark Age games would still be almost purely Clan tech equipment because most of the useful IS tech that is really exclusive either is based around melee or does things that don't translate into our typical videogame format (eg. VDNI cockpits). Clan stuff is still better and their rotaries are insane.

The reason why those two time frames are hated byalot of the tabletop people is the real life issues when they came out.

Jihad came out after somewhat succesful and popular Clan Invasions (which was btw hated by the eternal 3025 grognards) and the problem was that the main enemies on that time frame, Word of Blake came out as this almost asllseeing force of nature that nuked and mass murdered alot of earlier factions and units, which pissed off people royally.

It also lasted somewhat around 10 years in real time due to Battletech bouncing from one company to another and people got tired of it.

Dark Ages was attempt to advance the timeline and get away from the bad rep Jihad had got, but it was plagued yet again by real life issues and to outside viewer seemed somewhat half-assed attempt to revert shit back to 3025-3050s techwise, but also keeping the Clans as playble faction.

After the Dark Age, there was supposed to be a new age where the inner sphere basically got split into two areas - the inner circle where you could play 3025 type campaigns, and the outer circle where you could play the whole expanded ruleset shebang by introducing Word of Blakes last "fuck you infidels, we're out", their version of Skynet that keeps anyone from leaving the inner circle with automated warships and orbital defense platforms and restricting Hyperspace Pulse Generator access. People from the outside could come in, but wouldn't be able to go out anymore, and would drop into Mad Max territory. The old great houses would be within the inner circle, and the territory left in the outer circle would form entirely new factions.

There was also supposed to be second invasion of the Clan Homeworlds, where Clan Star Adder would get hit pretty hard and shift from "unity by cooperation" to "PEACE THROUGH POWER, KERENSKY LIVES!" This were to spark a new era called ilClan, where the homeworld clans renewed crusade would actually manage to drive towards Terra, smashing through the Word of Blakes skynet gift, re-uniting the devastated and resource scarce inner circle with the flourishing outer circle, with Clans getting a humongous fucking fit of autistic screeching for everyone in the inner sphere for letting Earth get to such a state (Earth would pretty much be post apocalyptic hellhole).

But remember, they're losing torso twist speed bonus. If you actually are retarded enough to full ham on the upper chassis tree, you will only get 4% extra torso twist speed. That's 1% less than in the current system.

That grass is a set of transparent jpegs or pngs. Not to mention the amount generated is high because it only generated grass within ~15 meters of the camera.

Guided mortars are basically nothing more than vertical AGMs. The fins attempt to direct the falling mortar onto the target, but the fall rate is not controlled.

I think its sad that sitting behind a rock or building is how you defeat an LRM when in reality it should be the very opposite. Sitting still means death and moving around means evading.

That said, I hope HGA is pure gundam about its weapon play. I loved that the weapons felt functional and things died after a good hosing.

Well for a bit of context the map is a malfunctioning water pumping station converted into a dueling arena and that rivited floor area pictured is near the center of the map with the main generator. The smooth areas noted look to be some of the spectator seating locations basically built right out of the side of the rock face.

Here's another angle of that map with the laser marking the area where the Spitting Cobra in that mortar preview was standing and looking to the left towards that spectator area.

As far as the UI goes, the original versions used in the earlier alpha had a 3D HUD but unfortunately it was causing too many problems like poor framerates, as well as being an actual 3D model the HUD would cast shadows and reflections in the game environment and clip into terrain. So currently a 2D implementation is being used that can have the individual elements customized for color preference, but it does have a notably flat appearance at the moment.

The minimap was actually larger but recently was shrunk as it was impeding the 3PV view itself of the Gear. It's likely to get an overhaul to make the map more legible, also maybe getting a toggle to change size or location. There are two 3PV camera modes, one for a rear view and 1st person toggle, and an alternate camera angle toggle that goes between 3PV looking at the front and side of the Gear.

Happen to be just using white for some of the display at the moment but it can be altered to something with more contrast. The layout actually looks like it took some time in regards to information placement to present the most important items right around the center of the targeting reticle. The HUD interface probably is on its seventh or so iteration in the past three years and is getting further adjustment. It'll probably start getting weapon specific targeting indicators for things like the mortars and hand grenades and maybe for melee as well.

You even did a retrospective with like Huge narrating 'the story so far' as the game has 'developed,' or rather stagnated, since last the kast in 2013.

You realize that there's no kongkast 2.0 II, and PGI will never give you enough new shit to make one.

You need a cohesive group, or it won't work. Greg is a sperg, who was there as a guest. Nowadays he doesn't even want to play fighting games, so good luck talking him into something that's actually hard to do, and will be judged bu an audience. Dudebutt has provided expert pieces, but primarily attended the live as a guest. Whispers has done expert pieces as well, but isn't all that hot at improv PGI memery. He's also a nice guy, who does snark, which is much harder to deliver than sarcasm and hate.

The appeal back then was that we were honest, and just talked about the shit as it was. The 5 man band angle worked really well. I did moderation and untangled PGI webs of lies as loremaster when something was said that seemed right, but oh no, they position changed on that, and yes, this feature was in the game, here, have some screenshots. Also occasional very memorable and endlessly reposted rants.
Connor was in charge of presentation. Literally the frontman guy. He could be angry as fuck, but was just the right amount of dry and sarcastic no fucks needed to win over the old men listeners with his american memes. Also instantly and always open to critique on the fly, and improv bullshit master.
Laser was the editor. While editing might not be all that hard, sure, the way he cut away all the noise, leaving only the good parts, was pretty time consuming. Also moderation duties, and in charge of notes.
Kaelus was the straight man to Connor. Initially, back before he turned into the devil himself, Kaelus was chill. You know, an old timey Whispers. He had the unique 'advantage,' if you want to call it that, where he was the only guy on the kast who wasn't a 4chan OG, and originated as a PGI white knight. So Connor would say 'this system is shit because X,' and Kaelus would say 'actually, if they adjust Y, it can be very benefical for robot class Z,' and I'd sneak in the obligatory '60 to 90 days' meme, or whatever was fitting/missing.

Anybody who wanted to do anything was free to do so. Also my connections got us the goons to guest star, and it was magic. Laser did cut the voice modulator 'girl' who tried to crash the goon/channer party, and it was so pathetic looking. Kaelus being an old gold got the episodes linked on various guild forums, as well, and since the forums weren't a desert, people were monitoring the kong kast thread, until PGI decided it was heresy and closed it forever. All feedback was welcome. Outside dudes tuning in for live? No problem. PGI guys and NGNG guys 'secretly' listening live, cross our heart, no mention of that anywhere but in this post? Sure thing.

What I'm saying is that doing something that people will listen to more than the official propaganda channel's podcast, well, it's a bit more complicated than talking for an hour, man, but if you guys want to do it, then do it. -The first kast was pretty much all Connor, improv, and even put up as a 'b-b-beta, you guys!'

Let's say that we have 10 "skill lineages" per mech. Each of them contains an overlapping mix of different skills, maybe 5 is about mech quirks and 5 is about weapons. A number of them or all of them can be identical to each other.

Each level on a lineage contains several choices, maybe 3 or 4. You pick one out of the bunch and then move on to the next level. This means you can only pick one per level and have to decide on tradeoffs. Since there are 10 lineages you can make different choices later for a balanced mech or make the same choices for a more focused build. I can see negative quirks in here being neatly packaged with particularly strong positive choices.

Competitive Hawken was ridiculous even with the drop limit of 2As, 2Bs and 2Cs, everyone ran 1 Tech, 1 Incin (DPS), typically 1 Brawler (Flak or SA Hawkins based on the map), 1 Assault, 1 Sharpshooter or flex pick, and the last A was typically inconsequential but typically NOT a Scout (often Heat Infil or a Berserker but memory is hazy)

Incin is broke as hell even without the cooling aura, it has the burst of a secondary with the DPS of two primaries and a non-suicide special ability. It's such a great and ridiculous Mech

Nief hopefully won't be as bad on PC but it'll undoubtedly usurp Scout as the #1 pubstomper used by bad players and lazy players that just want to laugh it up

If those are your primary weapons and you're in something survivable like, say, the hero huntsman you'll probably run out more often than not.
If you're in something like a jenner IIc you'll prolly never run out before dying.
If you're in something like a Scorch or Atlas and they aren't your only weapons, 4 tons is fine because by the time you run out you'll either be dead or you'll have killed the whole enemy team.

Usually was running 1024x768 but MW4 is probably best run in 800x600 since that is both the menu resolution as well as what the HUD elements like the minimap and radar were designed for to not have any pixel distortion.

Pretty much all of them. The Vulture design feels really janky and awkward. Personally I think it could be solved by putting the cockpit in the torso rather than the "head", making it look like a sort of attack helicopter. I get how that kind of goes against battletech design principles, but the placement of the cockpit just looks and feels really awkward and dumb.
