When you start on the airfield, your altimeter should read 0.

This works best if your units are set to metric btw. Go to the F10 map, mouse over to where you placed your custom waypoint and look at the height. Now go to your position on the airport and get your height.

If the target height is higher than you, subtract that amount from the 0 on your altimeter. If the target is higher than you, then add that amount from 0 on your altimeter.
