From one side I'm sad because her being the MC would be pretty cool, but then again, if we're going back to the "faceless MC" style, then at least they're going to be consistent with the good games in the series.

>Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War - Metascore: 75
>Ace Combat Assault Horizon: Enhanced Edition - Metascore: 77

Reviewer opinions confirmed worthless.
>>
>>167811550
Zero is way better than a 75. Most of the reviews at the time said it just wasn't enough of an improvement over 5, but that's bullshit. It's better in almost every single way except number of missions.

But quite honestly does that matter that much? I don't think so.
>>
>>167812972
AC5 is too long anyway. It could do with less missions.

VT is pretty alright for the challenges. Too bad it kinda stopped updating and all.
>>
>>167813256
I disagree. AC5 has just the right amount of missions. It manages to be longer than AC4 without having a bunch of the terribly long and boring 25 minute long "get as many points as possible" missions

Peole bitch about AC5 having scripted moments, but I'll take not being able to attack the Hrimfaxi/Arkbird for 20 seconds while dialog plays over having to fly around for 5 minutes while already having an S rank on the mission in AC4.

But yeah what >>167844317 said. There is a new AC comming to PC now so that's great.
>>
>>167842214
But timeline-wise, it's shorter than AC04. The events in AC5 only lasted for about three months while the events in AC04 lasted for about a year...plus probably several more years if you counted the ending when The Storyteller Boy is writing a series letters to Mobius One

You're entitled to your opinions but the only knowledge I had about that game was from how strongly one of my friends disliked it. So I was curious to hear the other side and have someone who actually played the game and seem to enjoy it explain what made it fun for them.

Besides, it seems like the sort of game you'd play when you were bored of the AC games and wanted to try something different.

I hope that it will be an early version of the Delphinus or the missing link between it and the Forneus. Failing that, I would like some sort of futuristic Flanker.
As for gimmicks, I'm fine with them being merely aesthetic or description-only particularities such as wings that deform depending on your speed or a prototype COFFIN.

Do you guys think AC games have to be mission based?

What if you had a linear campaign where in between action sequences you had to fly a refuel, land at a base, land on a carrier, refuel, etc. All between being sent around the world as one of the only squadrons that wasn't wiped out in a massive nuclear attack or something?

Do these types of games really only work as a mission-based thing?

Are you meaning an open-world AC game, or just having more stuff to do in between missions?
>>
>>167889961
That delves further into the "Hard Flight Sim" territory than PA has done. We don't see much of the logistics of fighter combat beyond refueling and takeoff/landing minigames precisely because they're incredibly dull when compared to the pace of combat in Ace Combat games
>>
>>167894975
No
>>
>>167895367
Yeah I avoided saying open world because I personally don't think that'd work well. But now that I think of it I can't really think of a game that does that I am trying to express. Maybe Half-Life 2?

The point is that it would be a linear experience without it being cut and dry mission types. It could follow like a day or two of the chaos following a major attack so that there isn't a lot of time lapses (The Last of Us is an example of using time lapses).

>>167895825
Does it have to be a simulation? I think it could retain the arcade-y gameplay style and just have a different narrative structure to facilitate mission transitions.

Like you said we've already done refueling and landings/takeoffs. Are there other stuff you could use as transitions? Maybe a masked loading screen thing where you fly a somewhat long distance to meet up with another squadron in distress.
>>
>>167897769
The thing is, Ace Combat's formula is based on having high intensity high focus action, which just doesn't mesh with the glorious art of rebasing an F-15 squadron half a world away. Things like flying partway across a map to defend a squadron can still be done by clever spawn placement and map size; we've seen it done in missions like Escort, Safe Return, half of AC6's missions if you take one operation and then another halfway across the map. The point is, flying to meet a squadron is still part of the action, while flying because orders from the brass are to rebase just isn't, and even in the compressed distances and times of Ace Combat, it isn't fun to spend 20 minutes holding your afterburners and snoozing before you line up for touchdown

The Falcons had a smart, but altogether flawed gameplan, as they effectively covered the middle of the field, taking away Edelman's crossing routes, but they failed to cover the flats and the sidelines, which is where Brady ended up attacking for most of the game, using the DBs' speed against them, and having the WRs run comeback routes and curl routes constantly.

Thrustmaster actually is selling a standalone throttle now. It seems decent enough but I've heard it has some QC issues and it uses potentiometers (of middling quality) instead of a Hall effect sensor or a high quality pot (like the X-52 or the one CH products throttle)

you might also try finding a used X-52 throttle, dunno how easy that would be though.

It took Brady and the offense pretty much the entire first half to seek out the weaknesses of Atlanta's defense to properly exploit them. Once Brady and McDaniels understood the type of quick-but-thin defense Atlanta was running, all they needed to do was change the playcalling to attack the weak spots, such as the sidelines and flats. On top of that, Atlanta's offense was finishing drives so quickly, either by scoring or quick three-and-outs, that the defense never really had time to sit on the bench and truly catch their breath. NE's defense, on the other hand, had plenty of rest time due to their offense being on the field for most of the game, especially late in the 4th quarter. Atlanta's defense was good, but the Super Bowl was the most pressure they'd ever faced, and they just couldn't cope with the extended play they were seeing, and Brady and Belichick's evasive football.

Don't fall for the 'le best offense' meme. They lost 5 out of 16 games this season, they weren't perfect. Their defense stiffened up a ton by the end of the season, but the games they lost were due to those teams figuring out the weaknesses and attacking those, instead of trying to overpower it toe-to-toe. Every team Atlanta beat this year was content to simply play the same defense that they always play, and assume they'll outplay the Falcons. Just look at Green Bay and Seattle, they thought they would win by doing the over-the-middle passing attack that they're best at, while leaving tight ends and RBs pretty much out of the game completely, and look what happened to them. Atlanta ran up the score in both of those games.

It's a fictional super plane in an arcade gamr, not a sim. Imagine the possibilities !! Air jousting where both planes have that ability equipped. Tunnel flying and doing on the spot 180 flips! Not turns but flips!!

>>
>>167984731
What about turning off engines when yoh do the flip so you maintain your momentum. You'll literally be flying backwards! Lock on and shoot whoever is in your tail, then flip again and keep going. I can imagine this breaking the game but hey, it would be on a experimental super plane and for once it won't be because of whatever op spw it comes with.

Alright guys,

Here's a collection of all the samples I have so far for what's in production.

Now it's your chance to help me out. Take a look at these sample images and see if you think anything is off about the designs. Feel free to be as autistic as you want.

Some stuff I already noted:
Wardog
>top right and bottom left stars look a little blobby
>some of the lettering is dodgy (R in WARDOG, T in FIGHTER)
>widen the opening on the G in WARDOG a little bit
>try to make WARDOG follow the curve of the bottom scroll a bit more; it looks squished against the top
>will the border cut actually look like that, or is it just because this is a sample?

Osea
>smaller star looks a bit blobby
>can anything be done about the off-colour line running through the middle?

OADF
>add a thicker merrowed border? (is the border already merrowed?)

Mobius
>try to neaten up the lines between the outer black circle and the inner blue circle
>switch it so the blue water is the twill background and the brown is embroidered?

ISAF
>the bottom of the diamond in the center looks janky; line needs to be straightened

Erusea
>the bottom (top in this picture because the patch is upside down) star is off-center

Stonehenge Operator
>I think any problems with this one are just weird lighting

Rot
>make the lines in the right wing a bit more pronounced
>most of the stars don't look very pointy

Grun
>think this one is good to go; very impressed with how it turned out

Indigo
>the background and all the orange are the wrong colour
>make vertical line on t in 51st more distinct
>try to straighten out the text across the top so the letters are vertically aligned with each other
>will the border be cut cleaner than this on the final product?

Gelb
>try to clean up the 3 in 23rd and the G in Gelb
>make the blue on the goggles bigger and the strap on the goggles not stretch off as far (see reference image)

Please provide opinions.

On a monday, if you play three missions at 3 AM, you can't play again until 3 PM. On a saturday, you can play 6 missions at 3 AM and then you have to wait until 3 AM sunday.

It's not much of a difference, but it is one.
>>
>>168060034
You can have up to 3 supplied fuel on weekdays. They take 4 hours to recharge. So you play 3 games in 30 minutes then you need to wait 3 hours and 30 minutes to play your next game.

On weekends, you get up to 6 supplied fuel, that take 4 hours to regenerate so you can play 6 games in a row and then your next game in 3 hours, assuming 10 minutes per match.

If you play in multiple sittings you can play more games per day but why structure your life around it?

As said, one every 4 hours with caps.

But there is also "stocked" fuel that does not expire. You can get more though daily/weekly challenges that will add around 10 a week, plus more from "drops" (bonus box after a sortie) else you can buy them.

There is also a short campaign that you can buy and play unrestricted or pay per level with in game credits, but it costs a fuel unit to play. Either way there is a 20 stocked fuel bonus for completing Tokyo.

As an addition, I would try and write within the bounds of reality. So I would take in to account things such as tactics, limited ordnance, the fact that a pilot would fly in in hundreds of sorties over the course of the war, that a continental war wouldn't last a year, and other things that AC4 sort of glosses over. I wouldn't go too in depth on these things in the story, but I would mention them frequently and they would play a role in character and scene development.

>all these new guys
You mean nuggets?
>>
>>168137160
I was not aware that typhoon used finned drop tanks, most drop tanks I am aware of do not.

The first reason that comes to mind is to avoid the drop tank 'tumbling' when released and striking the underbelly of the aircraft or other munitions.

I know the A-10 had an issue with this when fitted with multiple and triple ejector racks, which is why they typically only use a single munition per hardpoint.

Also being finned would give it a more predictable drop point so as to avoid having it land somewhere you wouldn't want it to.

While on the surface, having exposed fins would seemingly adversely effect the role rate moreso, I would not be surprised if due to some airflow interaction and vortex generation and whatnot if the fins were not in fact aerodynamically beneficial when the aircraft is in flight.

If anyone has a better answer, feel free to let me know.

How can an aircraft tell when it is locked on? Does that happen in real life?

How many missiles does a real life aircraft usually have?

Another anon earlier said dogfighting is more or less dead. Is this because there just aren't really any countries at war right now that both have an air presence? Or because even if there are, there are more advanced methods of combat?

I've also heard that instead of just chaff and flares (which I've heard newer missiles can now see through flare heat signatures), pilots can also exhaust a missiles kinetic energy by ducking and weaving and stuff.

What other cool knowledge stuff can you tell me?
>>
Jesus, I'm just going to finish that water mission before streaming again. That is if you can stand watching me. Thanks for the patience.
>>
>>168171106
Also which of the Ace Combat SP weapons do we have IRL? Obviously the Nosferatus are pretty nuts but are there any that are fictional? I think QAAMs and SAAMs are real.

Are SP weapons basically what jets use irl and the basic missiles are just older types?

Why do you like the F-4 so much?
>>
Is it possible to shoot down that Yellow in Shattered Skies, the mission?
I hit him like 3 times but he just flew out of range and I stalled out.
>>
>>168171106
>How can an aircraft tell when it is locked on? Does that happen in real life?
It has a radar warning receiver that notifies the pilot when the the craft is painted by radar, either from the ground, another plane or an active radar missile. A locked missile has a different radar pulse than a seeking missile so it can tell the difference.
I don't know if they detect IR missiles, but I assume that would work by detecting the missile's engine heat or something. The F-35 with its IRST would surely notice it.

>How many missiles does a real life aircraft usually have?

Usually between 6 and 10, but if you don't use drop tanks (you always use drop tanks though) many planes can carry more. The F/A-18 can carry 12 missiles without external tanks for example. Two in each of the four hardpoints under the wings, two heaters on the wing tips and two on the body.

>Another anon earlier said dogfighting is more or less dead.
Planes can detect each other from much further ranges (stealth throws a wrench into this) and long-range missiles have a much higher chance of killing the target than they did in the 70s. Newer missiles like the AIM-9X Block III can be fired in any direction with the proper software, you don't need to point your nose at the enemy to get a kill anymore. Turn fighting in that scenario is pointless.
At extreme ranges big and fast missiles tend to get lower kill ratios though, for example the F-14's Phoenix missile probably wasn't going to kill something smaller than a bomber that could maneuver out of the way when using its full impressive range.
>I've also heard that instead of just chaff and flares pilots can also exhaust a missiles kinetic energy by ducking and weaving and stuff.
True enough, turning away and gunning the throttle is one way to escape from missiles. Of course you won't always be able to get away from their kill envelope.
IR missiles turn fast enough that you can't outturn them anymore.

However, active radar missiles can also maneuver if they still have the energy, which is why in some cases you shouldn't fire them from extreme range.

>Also which of the Ace Combat SP weapons do we have IRL? Obviously the Nosferatus are pretty nuts but are there any that are fictional? I think QAAMs and SAAMs are real.
Basically all of it except the superplane stuff (lasers, MPBM) is real.
QAAM represents modern heatseekers like AIM-9X, SAAMs are generally older semi-active radar missiles like the Sparrow etc. XLAA are long-range telephone pole missiles like the AIM-54 Phoenix or the R-33. XMAA are generally AMRAAMs or eastern equivalents. XAGM is the Maverick, SOD are air-launched cruise missiles like Storm Shadow or JASSM etc etc. I'm sure the Ace Combat wiki will list whatever each special weapon represents.

>Nope.

>>
>>168172059
>Are SP weapons basically what jets use irl and the basic missiles are just older types?
Ace Combat's basic missiles have no real life equivalent as they are able to attack both air and ground targets (and require two missiles to kill a plane but one to kill a tank). They might be modeled as real life missiles but do not operate remotely like the weapons they pretend to be. I think the closest equivalent would be a ground-attack version of the venerable AIM-9 Sidewinder which has been proven to be capable of attacking ground targets in older prototypes and the modern AIM-9X.

Who develops the missiles? I know Raytheon was big on it for a while. Do Lockheed and Northrup Grumman do missiles stuff?

>>168174590
>IR missiles turn fast enough that you can't outturn them anymore.

Why is this? DO they have like nose thruster or something for quick turns? What is a real life example of an IR missile?

Also, where do you guys see the future of aircraft weaponry? Is it lasers? Are missiles going to get phased out?
>>
>>168176439
Missiles are smaller than planes, probably why
>>
>>168176439
>Who develops the missiles? I know Raytheon was big on it for a while. Do Lockheed and Northrup Grumman do missiles stuff?
I don't really know about this, but a quick google shows me that AIM-120 and AIM-9 are Raytheon, Vympel does Russian missiles.
>Why is this? DO they have like nose thruster or something for quick turns? What is a real life example of an IR missile?
IR missiles are the world's AIM-9's, Magics, AA-12's etc. Basically the short-range teeth of all modern combat aircraft.

Missiles have less mass thus less inertia and can accelerate faster and turn faster than any aircraft. Modern IR seekers can turn 360 degrees and track stuff in any direction. They're very difficult to escape from and frankly quite scary.
>>
>>168177219
Had a typo there, typed AA-12 but meant AA-11. AA-12 is more equivalent to the AMRAAM.
>>
>>168177219
>>168176482
Well I mean what is a modern missiles comprised of? In my mind I imagine a missile as just a rocket with a small computer on the inside. What makes it so sophisticated that it can "turn 360 degrees"?

Also how do modern missiles detonate? Do they sense when they're nearby the aircraft and then detonate? Is that what the kill envelope is?

>Well I mean what is a modern missiles comprised of? In my mind I imagine a missile as just a rocket with a small computer on the inside. What makes it so sophisticated that it can "turn 360 degrees"?
Engine, control surfaces, explosives and the seeker.
The body is a long tube with the explosives in it. At the front is the seeker, at the back is the engine, inside are the explosives, computer stuff and fuel. At the outside are the control surfaces.

>Also how do modern missiles detonate? Do they sense when they're nearby the aircraft and then detonate? Is that what the kill envelope is?

The seeker senses the aircraft is within the kill zone and the warhead detonates. There are multiple different kinds of warheads (blast-fragmentation, continuous rod etc) but most modern missiles use continuous rod warheads which results in an annular blast-fragmentation as depicted in this picture I stole from Wikipedia. The missile basically flies close enough to the target and explodes, forming an expanding cone of debris and pressure and cuts the aircraft in two. It's been proven to be more effective in most scenarios than a spherical explosion.

Kill envelope (or no-escape envelope) is the area where the missile is basically guaranteed to destroy is target. The opposing aircraft can't gather enough speed or maneuver fast enough to avoid the missile.

There's probably someone more qualified to answer this stuff in the thread though, I'm not really an expert. If you're interested you could check the Wikipedia article though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infrared_homing

The reason missiles in real life can only kill air or ground targets not one is because of different requirements. Air targets are typically "soft". Aircraft are by design, as light as possible so have no armor. You need a missile that is fast and maneuverable to catch a plane but don't need much in the way of actual firepower or armor penetration.

Ground targets like tanks require more power to kill but the missile conversely doesn't need as much speed or maneuverability. You can afford slower missile with more power vs ground targets.

In universe, how do countries deal with the existence of these crazy super pilots? Mobieus 1 is still serving with ISAF and everyone knows about him. Does he act like a nuclear deterrent just by existing?

It's a well documented fact that pilots who can take on entire armies by themselves pop up from time to time. Do the pilots themselves ever think about contacting others like themselves and try to take over the world? Are the pilots even human? Maybe their like marvel mutants or gundam newtypes?

Not that I'm complaining, completing all of the endings on hard was challenging and that is pretty good. I have much easier time completing either of the trinity games on ace difficulty, all of them on S

Why are tunnels, oversized aircraft and canyon missions a must for any Ace Combat game

I could name a few countries that would benefit long term if their capital was wiped off the map.

My "" shit posting"" aside, I have ace combat advanced horizon. It it good? How do I get the anime skins?

Of course, but the vast majority of nuclear weapons are let gg AL out to 'only' 5 miles.

If there wasn't the perception that a nuclear explosion scours all life for hundreds of miles, a politician might be tempted to think of all people in 'only' a 5 mile area to be an acceptable loss.

This is the problem with strangereal, countries don't have a country's worth of ICBMs lined up and ready to fly as soon as the tanks roll across their border. They don't have the capability to make any invasion of their sovereignty incredibly costly. Note that several wars in strangereal were started over economic reasons.

7 better deliver! I'm imagining the mission "Demon Lord of the Round Table" but with the size and scale of 6. It would be glorious! I was so disappointed that I ran out of guys to kill I was literally yelling at my screen.

I don't think anyone said the explosion would wipe out hundreds of miles but that the radiation from fallout would make a huge amount of land unlivable.

Would anyone watch a literal who stream AC3 if I figured out how to make it look decent?
>>

Fallout distribution isn't something I've studied, but I was under the impression that an air burst was relatively clean past the 10 mile mark for a 1mt bomb.

I'm noticing that all the slavshit have, for the lack of a better term, a cock between the 2 engines. Except for the su-47 which has 2 different sized ones on either side of the 2 engines. What is it and if it's so essential, where do the western planes put it.

In the case of the PAK-FA, that bulge is part of the internal weapons bays between the engine nacelles. As for the Su-47, the shorter boom on the left is a rear-facing radar, and the longer right one is a drag parachute.

>Do the pilots themselves ever think about contacting others like themselves and try to take over the world?
Isn't that basically what a world without boundaries was. At least on the highest difficulty settings, some of the enemy aces in these games can be quite tough.
>>
>>168249016
What problem are you having, hitting the walls, ceiling, floor? A plane with higher stability may help.

Use autopilot to set your altitude, then rudder to avoid hitting the walls.
