Cards that don't correspond to your job get no damage bonus from magic so they literally do not scale. Some jobs can use cards from more than one job category though (like Tidus being able to use warrior and mage cards and Cloud being able to use both warrior and ranger cards iirc.)

hey all, it's been a long time since I've really played a good ol rpg, I've been meaning to play FF8, next week I'll have a load of free time so this is a good chance for me.

I was the kind of player who always used guides to play games "perfectly" even on the first playthrough, but now I'm older I don't have alot of time for playing and feel like I should "have fun" instead of maximizing everything.

So now I'm trying to decide if I should play FF8 blind or not, I had mentioned this to one of my friends who I game with sometimes, he said he played it when he was younger and got stuck in that town where he fought the fujin and raiden siblings, he couldn't beat them and game won't let him leave town so he never beat it. He told me it was a hard game if you don't know what to do, especially if you overleveled cause the enemies stats scale faster?

in short, will I beat FF8 fine playing blind as a player with hard to break power gaming tendencies (grinding level/weapon/etc before next town)

My Cecil's heals are 1500+ on average after I bothered to pot up his MAG (I am out of mages who need INT pots and can't have them clogging my unit inventory) and SPR, then deck him out in SPR gear and materia. His natural defense doesn't even need amplification.

Deathbringer isn't standard at all, even whales can't just summon specific 5* bases. Substituting it for Excalibur, though, I guess it's a "normal" loadout. Still, on Noctis, it proves exceptional.

I forgot to mention some stuff, my bad. All units should be at 4500 hp at least. You'll want tons of muscle belts and hp +10%. Exdeath can hit 999dmg with around 380 mag and Chizurus should have the wind katanas to chain phantom shadow.

I've been using this setup and have never dropped below 10k so it should work for you.

It is a re-imagining of FF1, so Sarah and Garland are the only characters you'll recognize outside of special events.

What people whine about are the legendary jobs that become available through special events. The standard jobs are easy to pull because there's a job banner and once you pull one, you can never get a duplicate. The legendary jobs require insane luck to pull if you're not a whale because they can only be pulled from ability banners and have a very low chance to appear.
