Play it safe in neutral and learn to hitconfirm into combos with good damage. In GG you can generally afford to make mistakes at lower level, but in BB even at lower level characters will still shit out damage against you. The game is very matchup heavy so you shouldn't feel too bad about not losing matches where you don't know what you did wrong, and instead take it as a learning experience.

Out of those, I would definitely say Makoto is the best to start with. Both Taokaka and Valkenhayn have pretty non-standard movement and rely heavily on mixups that open up the opponent repeatedly, so it's harder to get down as a newcomer. Makoto in comparison can deal a ton of damage and is somewhat more linear in her playstyle. Unlike in CPE, the Level 3 Drive isn't as hard to hit in this game either, so you won't be having to grind that down as much.

Playing multiple characters isn't a bad idea, but in BB you need to really get down what your own character can really do, since it'll be what carries you through the beginning stages of the game. Learning multiple before that will just lead to unnecessary frustration.

well there is your problem. Just drop Tao desu, she requires effort while also being complete and utter garbage anyway. As for Makoto and Valk, both are good but Makoto is easier so I'd say to really grind out training mode and matches with her first since it will be easier for you to grasp how the game is played. Then maybe try out Valk when you feel a little more comfortable. For Valk you really need to learn to do his oki game, which really is quite difficult to pull off. With Makoto you mostly open the up with frame traps and overheads. Try to watch Goro matches, he's the best Makoto.

She did, but that's not really the case anymore. The Drive really was the hard part when it came to getting consistent damage with Makoto before, and that's a non-issue in CF. It's still not super easy, but when compared to Valk and Tao I would really say Makoto is the best beginner choice.

But some say Carl is harder, probably due to his neutral being worse on his own than Zato being on his own and not having the same degree of control as you have as Eddie. Carl is also a much more defensive character in neutral compared to Zato, their neutral is very different.

As far as playing them goes, positioning is more important for carl, managing the meter and timing of the attacks is more important for zato.

You need to break your momentum with FD. So run up throw would be something like 66>4KS>6/4H. If you are dashing or have any momentum from dashing you won't be able to throw. This is explained in the missions, do yourself a favour and play all of them, they are fantastic.

As for getting thrown I think you are talking about getting thrown after you knock them down. Throws are basically reversals when waking up in GG so you when you meaty you need to space the meaty outside of the opponent's throw range. If you are point blank and you try to do something they will throw you out of it. Also throws are only 1F of start up as well as not really being techable (throw techs are rare and only really occur when two people are trying to throw each other, rather than countering the opponents throw). This means that you have to be aware of your opponents throw range too, so if you want to tick throw them and their throw range is larger than yours they can abuse that and throw you before you are in your throw range.

Some characters also have some throw invul moves like Leo 6K and Jam 6K, these are usually their go to meaties, so don't try to throw them on your wake up because it won't work. Seriously though, play the missions. They are REALLY useful; there are even missions that teach you some parts of a match up such as throwing Leo out of his grounded cross up or anti airing Jam j.D.

I think the tick throw part might be unclear. It's not that you should not be tick throwing opponents with larger throw ranges than you, rather it is riskier for you to go for a tick throw the further away you are from your opponent before you walk/run up throw. You should also try to see if they have used FD to push you away, this makes going for a tick throw harder. You should experiment with your tick throws and see what works with whatever normal at whatever range, knowing when to do tick>walk up or tick>run>FD break>throw.

Lastly make your strings airtight when you are in their throw range because if you overstagger something like multiple 2Ps and you are in the opponents throw range you can get thrown out of it.
