Again, build variety will come largely from what effects you put on your gear.

There is a ton of different effects.
Put a lot of "+% damage from behind" and have use the various skills that lets you swoop behind people.
Go for +Ki damage/Break with +Grapple damage and focus on breaking peoples guard and stamina
Stack all the (Critical) effects (usually powerful but only active when you're under 30% HP) with the guardian that automatically activates living weapon when you take a killing blow.
Combine status effects with +% damage against targets with status effects

Picking out a random 2kat with paralysis on and did water sword on onryoki, water sword went from doing 100 per hit to 500.
Too bad paralysis effects ends instantly they get hit so it was only for a couple hits, poison might be better.

Maybe we'll get a throwback to him in one of the DLC though, especially as there's a mighty good chance that Kenshin will get something in "Dragon of the North" -- the Date fought the Uesugi during Sekigahara, after all, and though Kenshin is dead, he'd make for a great yokai like Nouhime (Yukionna). Would be weird to have Shingen entirely absent.

So I just completed the game.

Am I the only one absolutely disgusted by how pitiful the world design and even level design turned out? The environments were so repetitive and considering it's a mission based system there's simply no excuse, the level design was also incredibly weak (in regards to depth).

Bosses were also considerably weaker than Dark Souls/Bloodborne (Bloodborne especially) to the point that it felt more like Dark Souls 2 with them throwing a random named mob at you and calling him a boss.

Overall, the game is pretty great. The stance system is fantastic but holy shit does it sort of ruin the weapons in the game (by that I mean that all Katanas are essential reskins, same goes for axes/spears etc).

Solid game, definitely more reasons to get a PS4 but for me, it didn't reach the levels of Bloodborne or Dark Souls nor did it come close really.

The main missions are about the size of any given named area in Soulsborne games, so fairly large. Ogress level is a side mission. But you dodging gets worse and stamina regen gets worse.

Been playing all night, it's pretty great. I'm still early into the game, taking my time trying to find all the kodama in each level. Haven't decided one just what kind of build I'm going for yet. I like being able to block shit like crazy so I might go heavy armor with 1kat, and maybe a spear as my back up weapon. Anyone try 1kat/2kat in the demos? Curious if it's worthwhile. 1kat for most single enemies, 2 for groups. I've noticed I'm fighting more groups than I remember in the demos.

Also tip for those about to start soon. None of the items or amrita you collect in the very first level in the Tower of London carry over, so there's not much point in exploring that level for chests and fighting the few extra enemies there. The miniboss you fight at the end doesn't really require much gear.
