I just bought the game through humblebundle and started the grand campaign, and around turn 20~ as dwarves I got my shit pushed in. Two full stack orc armies just appeared and started taking over settlements one by one. Is this supposed to happen or did I fuck up early game by not building enough troops?

How does charge bonus in Attila work?

I'm assuming it's:

>300 charge bonus + 10 weapon damage = 310 weapon damage on charge

or

>300 charge bonus + 10 weapon damage = 300 charge damage + 10 weapon damage

The 2nd one seems unlikely but ya never know it could be a thing.

I'm asking because I wanna build a thing that increases Weapon Damage of my units, but since Shock Cavalry do no actual damage, I'm wondering if it would do anything for them since multiplying the 1st equation by 15% gets you lots more damage, but if it's the 2nd equation then it doesn't really help at all.

Mortars and Helstorms for low armor units. Others for heavy armor and elite unit duty. Steam tank is one of the better ones. Once the enemy gets close you can just send it in melee and it'll soak up a ton of damage and also terrify any nearby enemy units.

I play vanilla personally, so the only mods I'd recommend to look at are some aesthetic ones. I think there are mods that add like extra models to zombie units and shit like that.

And there is the old +10% movement speed in friendly land to help you chase varg fucks.

Improved AI Recruitment is the only one I would count as absolutely essential, stops the AI from spamming too many annoying skirmish cavalry units, makes them recruit more actual elite infantry and so on.

Other than that there aren't many must haves.

I'd recommend stuff like Mousillon: City of the Damned and Blacker Black Orcs, but those are purely cosmetic.

I have a list I use myself, but many of those are just changes I personally like that I don't think I would recommend to the general player

well in Attila it depends on your faction, Rome can actually do pretty well with culture income in Ravenna, Constantinople, and Rome, since those two cities get +10% to culture income, so you build a library, a theatre, public baths, civil hall, basically everything that gives culture income

with other cities for roman factions you generally just build commerce, though in some provinces you can go for industry as well, the ones with forest, since it gives +20% industry income. With barbars economy is a bit more complicated because unless you take over a city with roman sanitation, you can't really build any top tier industry buildings without the whole town drowning in shit and filth, so you are pretty much forced to focus on things like taverns and markets instead of industry. But generally, you just need to look at what kinda special resources a province has, your own faction and plan based on that

and in warhammer, well there is literally just 1 economy building per faction so just build it everywhere, together with walls

terrible campaign. Even on easy the whole thing is stupid OP in favor of the countless enemy forces that never stop attacking your owned territories. Armies can go from 4 units to 20 units in one turn and can cover half the campaign map makling it impossible to keep up with them or hunt them down. The in game economy does not hold up in ballancing the game play out and your forces quickly dwindle away as more and more armies attack you. compared to other total war games I would put this at the bottom and would definitly NOT recommend this game expecially at the insane price point its at now.

Black Coaches are the worst unit in the game.

Pick Vlad as your starting Legendary Lord, he's the hardest to unlock while playing and has the best abilities.

Try not to fight the Dwarfs until late in the game if you can help it.

Playing Rome 2, I mostly focus on industry. Knowing those provinces with grain bonus (+food for every territory you own), agriculture becomes less important and cultural buildings are for converting and speeding up research. I'm definitely focusing on the economic upgrades, raising the dead is shittons of fun. I'm finding most of the basic units a bit underwhelming though- zombies just bog down the enemy and skeletons don't do much of worth. That Varghoul or whatever the giant bat ogre is, though, holy shit. I love him.

I have this same problem too. I always start my campaign very carefuly, naming units, thinking about every move, and after like 2 hours of playing, I get sloppy and pretty much just power through everything, skipping turns and not caring about agents.


Here are two things that helped me change that mentality:

>I fight literally single battle every battle.
No matter how boring it is, I fight it, because if I auto-resolve even once, it becomes a vicious cicle and I end up auto-resolving even more.

>I stop playing after 2 hours.
No matter how much fun I'm having, after 2 hours of playtime, I quit. This makes me not get absolutely bored of the campaign, since I have the attention span of a fish.


I hope this helps you as much as it did to me.

Fucking this. Abusing autoresolve is the campaign killer. Also challenge campaigns like pic related keeps you a lot more invested in the campaign in general and makes you carefully consider and make your moves instead of half assing everything.

So I've played 1 campaign with every race on VH, and generally you get to a point where money is just not an issue anymore. Some are faster than others, some are just fucking beyond overpowered like the Wood Elves. But am I doing it wrong with the Empire? Even late game my income was shit, and I could only support a few armies. Compared to others I was fielding 2-4 fewer armies while controlling more settlements.

I was kind of surprised at how tight your income gets with them. I was also surprised to see that unlike literally every other race they had no technology to boost income, and no support buildings to boost income. Also very few ways to reduce upkeep beyond LL traits or really meager 5% reductions. I also got clobbered by the loss of trade from trading partners getting killed or absorbed into other factions. Which hits you two ways because the income from those resource buildings is much lower than from weaving houses.

Is the Empire economy just that shitty or was I doing something wrong?

To answer your question, yeah, it's simple enough. You can just recruit a level 1 banshee, send her there, and after doing whatever she has to do, just disband her instead of spending like 7 turns bringing her back. To recruit banshees, you need the Cairnstones building chain upgraded to level 2.

After that, you have to move Manfred's army to the same fucking place. Fun, yeah? Except a feature most new players won't notice is in the quest's description is a "teleport to battle" button that initiates the battle immediately without having to spend 30 turns moving there and back.

Idk, I just had my first battle with the general on the chariot, he immediately died to a slinger that turned around and fired on him. The rest of the chariots almost immediately routed after that.

The sword unit is simply more reliable, put it just behind your line and support the shitters there.

Also, is there actually a point in getting a spear line in Rome 2, I'm just having a look at the Chosen units from the Iceni and since I don't fight an awful lot of cav in this part of the world I might just grab a bunch of Chosen Swords for the main line and Painted Ones to flank.

No it is not wrong, many lords and heroes can get stuck in and do fine. Some are better at it than others. Some of the strict magic users should be leading from the back or otherwise out of harm's way. Vlad is better at getting stuck in, especially with Blood Drinker, Manny has better late game scaling and I use him as a magic caster that CAN get in there from time to time. As he gets his mounts Manny gets exponentially better. Vlad is an undying tank and can trash characters in duels but can't do much more than that.

Vlad is good in MP and SP. His regen makes him such a hard target to kill, and he can go in there. Only downside is of course its harder for him to abuse raise dead as compared to generic and other named lords, Red Duke being the new king of the Vamps


While fuck whoever came up with Vlad's campaign design. No reason not to start as him. The other vampire LL's don't take long to get and Vlad in early game is stupid. Coupled with getting Blooddrinker lvl 8.

But CA has always had a hard on for the VC for some reason. Most LL's, easiest to get LL's, first added unit in the game was Blood Knights and every patch they have been the meta.

Tried something like that in a costume battle against Breton. I used Beastmen, I sent my infantry in the middle and my cavalry on the sides. here is a detailed breakdown in pic related of where I've actually put ai zones, the blue lines represent 'ai advantage zones'which I have manually marked, to entice the ai to go to those areas(it makes them treat it as a defensive hill/optimal attack line to be more precise)

the purple arrow is the reccomended ai deployment line I set.

now despite all this the ai still clumps in one corner, with cursory units (a few skirmisher cav) around the middle.

initially the ai wouldn't even move, it was overwhelmed by the choices of 3 ways to attack!.


my advice is to try 3v3/4v4 battles on it, the ai still will clump, but will have sizeable forces on each crossing/.

It would depends how far they went. They could get away with just reusing Empire animations and units and just remodeling them to look like Araby. I mean they bothered to put in The southern nations so I'd say chances are high they'll be in but maybe not a full roster (Until a DLC can be made)

And it wouldn't be hard to add them into the map all they'd have to do is expand below the badlands so regardless what their plans or for the expansions they could fit in quite easily.

Another crusade, another victory.

I'm noticing a trend here, though. A bunch join the crusades but very few actually show up. The first crusade had poland and the HRE briefly poke their head in but this one was entirely fought by me. I was seriously pushing my two armies to the limit here and reinforcements were years away. It's a good thing the Fatmid were tired of getting entire armies wiped out by two stubborn generals and accepted a ceasefire.

You know what they should have done with the Empire campaign?

Given unique unites to each of the states, and you can only access those units by conquering each state. For example conquering Middenland unlocks Greatswords. These specific units would all be used when you battle these enemy states.

Otherwise, you'd always start out with basic shit only. Reiksguard, for example, being the only high tier unit you can unlock in Reiksland, or something.

Then give even more unique units to Empire, but add them in with Tilea (pikes), Estalia, and Border Princes. Giving Empire players thoughts on where to conquer based on how you want to play the Empire in your current campaign.
