If enemies get healed and if they can't die, what's the poin? Is it just a get out of death free card to save your allies? Doubt you use that to save yourself, because if you would die before ult, you're gonna die after it too.

I ended a game of MF earlier at level 12 with 74 lethality, without buying a 4th dirk or going into Precision.
With the scaling to 18, the extra options available, + getting a last whisper item your overall armour pen is huge.

As for ancient Shurima - it was apparently heavily relying on their divine magic and water sources to become such a prosperous empire.

You're right about Demacia and Noxus however. Though it could be argued that Demacia compensates with magic while Noxus compensates with dark arts and sheer numbers. Even then, we see that some of their champions advanced weaponry - Lucian literally uses magic-based guns while Kled uses a pistol when alone. Concept art of the of their empires indicates that they're actually pretty advanced in many ways.

Keep in mind that the lore indicated that Zaun and Piltover are so strongly focused on technology because their land is extremely weak in natural magical resources. Piltover has to import their magic from Shurima in the form of rare hextech crystals - because they have no magic of their own. Meanwhile, Zaun has chemtech - which is based off of faulty imitation hextech crystal - and this has proven to be extremely damaging to the environment, as well as people's health.
