Only archers really worth using are Isoroku (Sweeping fire is good for hitting weak but guarded units in the back row, and her assassinate it alright in a pinch), and Niwa (because that early in the game he's your best ranged attacker).

The main perk of archers is that they're cheap as hell back row attackers. The other back row attackers are cavalry (expensive and rare), tacticians (slightly expensive and not as strong), diviners (expensive and require prep), monsters (only available in FFA), ninjas (more expensive, not as strong, lower troop counts), mages (literally only two in the whole game) and cannons (literally only two in the whole game).

So they fill that niche of being able to put something in the back row that gives a little extra firepower for little cost. But then again, in a game where you're limited to 30 commanders max, it's hard to justify more than one or two slots for archers when you're collecting elite units.

Most of us played Rance VI before 01 and 03 which are chronologically before VI. People played and enjoyed Sengoku before any other games were translated.

Given how important the demon army is to X, 03 and VI are vital.

Plus unlike VI they're not sitting on a 100% translation and they don't have to get out quickly because its age will make it hard to release later.

She wasn't captured. Some soldiers of the Uesugi were captured and she surrendered. There's hostages yeah but there has been a lot of situations like that where Rance didn't just say "Fuck it all, I failed I give up. Let's just die then.". She could have made some sort of plan or resistance or anything, even after being captured but she didn't because she was in low spirits.
Tourin is completely different. He's just one guy, Takeda had already fallen and merged with Oda, and he was fond of Rance regardless.
