Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (speccy screenshot), OS, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

Thanks CEMU

Doubt it, but maybe it will run well within the year.
>>
Let's try out the netplay RA thing guys
>>
Anyone knows if Dolphin/PCSX2 with all graphics settings up looks better than these games running on PC? Multiplats like Freedom Fighters or Star Wars: Battlefront II... I'm really curious about this.
>>
>>167330205
>Majora's mask N64 VC now playable in Dolphin
N64 emulators lose again.

>>167330707
I'm sure you could apply similar effects on the PC versions to make them look good, using 3rd party software.
>>
can anyone explain mipmapping to me?

like to a middle school kid
>>
>>167330921
You ever play Mario 64?
You know how as you get closer to Peach's portrait, it turns into Bowser?
That's mipmapping. A texture is presented differently when you're further away from it. This will allow lower res textures (or completely different textures) to be used when further away from an object, to improve performance (or make cool transitional effects).
>>
>>167330921
A single object having different rendering states respective to the distance from the camera.
Basically a 3D object/texture gets more detailed as the player moves closer to it.
>>
>>167331051
>You ever play Mario 64?
of course not

when it came out I was a made adult already.
I don't play kiddy games.
>>
>>167331146
Well that's where you're wrong, kiddo. I wouldn't suspect such a "superior intellect" as yourself to understand, but Mario 64 is one of the greatest games of all time. It's so advanced, in fact, that it explores the concept of alternate dimensions which Mario can access using real world physics concepts to accelerate himself to multiple times the speed of light, allowing for traversal of multiple parallel universes at a time.
This of course is all so that he can save his knees by not jumping, while also saving the Princess.
>>
do we really have to wait 6 days for 1.7.1?

also will my shadercaches and savegames still work

this would be my first "update"
>>
>>167331291
n64 graphics always looked off to me,
I don't know if it's the low res textures or the fact that's it's too straight unlike the psx triangles which I was very used to at the time.

to this day, it gives me the creeps
>>
>>167331421
Yeah, there's a lot of fog in N64 games too, which adds to the eerie quality.

>>167331331
Shadercaches are transferable between versions. You'll just have to rebuild from your transferable folder.
Mudlord made a cracker, if you can get a copy of the new update.
>>
>>167331581

yes I have the keygen but not the exe

thanks.

>>
>>167330783
It'd have to be on a game-by-game basis though, Dolphin seems much more handy since it's immediate and they all support joystick from the get-go. I'll probable end up getting the console versions.
>>
Is the Mednafen for Saturn a separate download, or could I just throw the Saturn ISOs on mednafen and it will run fine?
>>
>>167334113
>It'd have to be on a game-by-game basis though
Never owned a PC with a video card before?
>>
>>167334319
Oh yeah, of course. You could just set a load of antialiasing options and stuff through the graphics card settings.
I did that with Darksiders because it only had resolution options.
>>
>>167330707
It's always better to play games running natively on hardware, emulation will always have some small glitches here and there, also input lag. Unless it's an awful port or something like that.

>>
>>167334319
>>167334408
I never understood this option. How does it work for games that already have antialiasing? So you configure it at x4 on the game, and then at x4 on the Nvdia/AMD menu, what happens?
>>167334419
Dolphin is pretty good, though, but I think you're right.
>>
>>167336445
Usually it will be game controlled. Choosing the options from the graphics menu allows you to override the game's options.
>>
>>167336445
It can override game settings if you let it.

Is the current trend of offering digital game downloads a bad thing for preservation?
Do you think future consoles are going to be digital distribution only?
>>
>>167338065
Who cares videogames died in gen 7
>>
>>167338065
Not really. Due to digital downloads, it's easier than ever to build up a bank of wiiU games.
The problem is, if people don't build a complete library and then the distribution servers go offline. But I think that even if all games were digital downloads, people would homebrew their consoles and rip the games from their hard-drives.
>>
>>167340136
Nintendo servers are broken

What about say PS 4 tho, for example
>>
>>167340136
Don't things get taken down all the time from eshop and the like before someone could make a copy? With physical copies you had control because Nintendo couldn't just barge in your house and take your game away.

Besides, in an always online model where you always need to ask the server for a temporarily stored decryption key before playing they can make the server simply refuse to serve it to you for some reason making your locally stored copy useless.
>>
>>167340948
Like I said, people can always homebrew their consoles and get to the games that way.

>>167341009
And if a game was only produced in limited quantities physically and they were all bought by people with no will to preserve, then the same thing would occur. Someone will have it somewhere on some console.
>>
>>167341009
And what if games are encrypted with unique key inside some secure chip on the console - this is possible with today's technology. So you need to hack this exact console to decrypt the game stored on it, unlike how it's right now with 3DS where you can use any console
>>
>>167341219
You cannot "just homebrew" a PS4 or xbone (yet)
>>
>>167341304
>(yet)
>>
>>167341396
You are too optimistic.

Ps3 ended its life without being cracked
>>

>>
>>167341471
PS3 has CFW.
>>
>>167342016
Can I still download games if I buy a used ps3?
>>
>>167342105
Yes. But you can add CFW to most PS3's and just get games free that way.

>>

>>167343391
You wouldn't be downloading them free off the PSN, you'd be installing them from USB or something.
>>
>>167343470
So you agree with me that digital distribution is not always as easy as nintendo
>>
>>167344962

Every single day around the world, trans people are being assaulted, verbally and physically. They are being ridiculed, discriminated against, bullied, and murdered. Yes, murdered, because they were born into the wrong physical body. They are living in hiding, misery, and committing suicide because the world cannot, and refuses to, accept them and allow them to live their lives.

Each time one of those posts, pictures, comments, memes, etc. is allowed to stand, it promotes that environment where trans people are less than, are not afforded basic human rights, are driven to death. Those kinds of posts are not all right. They are hateful, hurtful, and contributing to deaths.

Actions speak louder.

Hey /emugen/

So before I post my computer specs and plugin configuration, I was just curious if anyone has ever beaten Steambot Chroniles on a pcsx2 emulator?

I see that there are known issues with a cutscene and weather, not to mention this one problem where the screen goes blank when customizing my steambot in the game. I've always wanted to play it and the game looks so damn comfy, hoping I could make it happen. Mainly I am curious if I am just wasting my time trying to emulate it? If an anon here knows it can be done I'll post my specs.
>>
>>167361070
Have you checked the game's entry on pcsx2 wiki?
Have you tried software mode?

>>167361070
Try a different renderer, switch between OGL and DX11 to see which works better, one might solve your menu problem. Otherwise, hit f9 to change to software mode when that occurs.

Under the "Revision" column on the last row it says "1.5.0 (2017-01-22, 15:42.14)". I might be a total noob, but I thought the latest revision of the pcsx2 was 1.4.something. According to that person it was playable.

Having a bit of trouble with Dragon Quest VIII. My rig isn't exactly high end, or even mid range anymore, but this is giving me more trouble than it should

Specs: FX-4200 and R9 280 3GB. OC'd my 4200 as far as my shitty mobo will let me.

So, I typically overclock my GPU because why wouldn't I, but here's the thing: no matter how hard I OC it, it makes literally 0 difference in performance. I can't for the life of me think why. I get that an RPG is going to be CPU intensive, but I know this game is graphically intensive too, so that makes no sense whatsoever. As it stands, I've had to put PCSX2 on le vel 5 (Aggressive Hacks Plus) to get a largely stable 60fps, but I'm having some stuttering issues now. If I could just overclock my GPU and have it work, I doubt I'd need level 5 hacks.

Another odd tidbit too: unless I bump the res up to 1440p or 2160p, resolution doesn't impact my performance at all. I get the same frame rate at 400 x 240 that I do at 1920 x 1080

If I want to play Fire Emblem Fates: special edition, which build should I use? The Chinese one, or the a nightly one?
Also, does special edition include all the paths?
Lastly, where can I get 3DS roms? Never wanted to play them before and emuparadise doesn't have them.

Any clue? I get AMD CPU is shit and all, but the rest of it just doesn't make sense to me. GPU overclock effects literally every other game I've tried, as does resolution, so why do neither touch my performance with PCSX2?

On a different note, now that I do actually get "60fps" on DQVIII, is that stutter on the overworld normal, or just because of the hacks I have? It's like the game chokes up when too much is displayed. My actual fps seems to go down significantly, but the game logic is running just fine

>>
>>167388891
>or just because of the hacks I have?
It is, the last preset touches the EE cylerate and VU cycle stealing, both of those makes it so you're emulating a PS2 that isn't quite as powerful as the real thing so games will have more stuttering and more slowdown overall unless they didn't use the full capabilities of the system.

I'm having a really weird issue with games running too fast in ePSXe and the solutions I've found haven't seemed to work. This didn't used to happen either, it's only a recent issue.

Example 1: when I play Spyro 2, the intro cutscene plays extremely fast, and when I'm going in and out of world portals the game runs super fast. Everything else is normal though.

Example 2: Legend of Dragoon is virtually unplayable because everything goes too fast. The opening FMV and first cutscene in the game play normally, but in-game cutscenes are really fast, finished text lines pop up instantly, running around in the game world is super fast, and the combat is so ridiculously fast that I can't even see what buttons to press during the attack animations.

Originally (before the issue began) I had FPS limit and auto-detect FPS turned on. The only thing I could find that seemed applicable was keeping FPS limit checked, but manually changing the FPS limit to 60, and that did nothing. Any ideas?
>>
>>167440459

RetroArch should have internal de-interlacing, gamma/brightness/saturation/etc, options instead of relying on shaders. All video players have these options already.

They do them via shaders. Listing the same features in two places is not the direction the UI clusterfuck needs to go.
>>
>>167459706

>shaders will fix everything

>ignoring that shaders are complex and confusing for new users
>ignoring that a video player will automatically de-interlace with tons of options

>>167460012
What are you even trying to imply that I'm saying here? I just told you that what you think the video players are doing while not using shaders IS in fact them using shaders. It's just a UI difference, so ask them for a better UI and better autoconfiguration.

What's complex about loading deinterlace.slangp?

You don't want fancy deinterlacing for games, stick to simple methods like bob or weave, anything more complicated adds input lag.

Or join the 480p CRT master race and use interlacing flicker shader.

Too lazy for command lines so I passed on mednafen, but I set up PCSX-R and it works great. Tested out most of my games and they work fine. Crash Team Racing refuses to work properly though, but maybe my ISO is just fucked.

I've been playing Spyro 1, and pic related is a really odd texture. From almost every angle it looks like it should be a ramp, and it doesn't mesh with anything to its left. Bit of a strange choice for the devs to make. I'd call it an oversight, but considering how much you have to run around in that spot, you'd think they would have noticed how much confusion it causes.

I have an ipega 9025 and it significantly exceeded my expectations. It's cheap chinese shit, but unlike everything else I've gotten that meets that description, actually is 100% everything it's trying to present itself to be. I literally just hoped it would be semi-functional in a way that was decent enough to use when I bought it, like only partially bindable or having only one stick working or something. Nope, all works. R2 and L2 are under the gamepad, which is sort of logical for its size but unexpected. Nothing else unusual compared to real gamepads except that the media buttons are also bindable as more buttons.

Good button and dpad feel too.

And you would prefer that even on OpenGL cores you have CPU based filtering which means you must use PBOs and glReadPixels to read every single frame (which in some cases if the user allows, is a 1080p frame) just so you can use your CPU more.....instead of implementing them as shaders.

Ditch presets, set speedhacks yourself without touching the EE cyclerate and VU cycle stealing sliders,, if you're not running fullspeed then you're gonna have to upgrade If the slowdown is only occasional or you just don't care about it you can prevent the audio from distorting itself by changing a setting in the audio plugin from timestretch to async mix.

Does PCSX2 run at 4k by default? Resolution does not impact my performance whatsoever until I go over 4k. I run an FX-4200 OC'd out the ass with an R9 280 3GB, and I run 4k just as smoothly as I run 400 x 256. The only thing I can figure is it renders in 4k and downscales to whatever resolution you have it set for

Yes, you'll need a Citra build with geometry shaders for a few levels though otherwise you won't see shit.

Bleeding edge 86 is the last build with it merged as the coder is not available currently: https://github.com/citra-emu/citra-bleeding-edge/releases/tag/bleeding-edge-86

or get thet chinese build from 01. December which should be faster.
>>
>>167517803
It does not. Your GPU is too good so the res matters little if at all in taxing it. Just run it in 4k if you want. I can assure you for someone on a lower end GPU, res does matter.

Hey, i have an old Dell inspiron from 2005 and was emulating Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain.

I was using PCSX soft driver 1.7 on the nice preset.

Although the game ran the intros and the erly crypt sequence, it froze after a few times that i went to the options screen (Select).

When this happened i kinda asked myself if this emulator was the one for this kind of game. So, using the soft driver was a bad move? What are the best options (emulator and configs) for BO1?

Why does Dolphin run so jank for me? I have a 970 and a i7 6700k, but Timesplitters 3 stutters as new models are loaded in and throwing a grenade sends the game into actual slo-mo.

Sounds like the typical shader stuttering that those incompetent Dolphin devs have been unable to fix for years. You should use Ishiiruka if you would rather temporarily see graphical glitches instead of having stutters.

so, to use mednaffen i installed retroarch.

There were a few directx problems (since this pc wasn't for gaming, it kinda didn't have direct x 9),
but even after that retroarch keeps crashing on me... what could it be?

My specs:
Win 7 32 bit
Core 2 duo 2.1ghz t6500
3gb ram
Vram is 32mb
GPU is Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)

Let me give you a tip

Standalone still needs BIOS and proper CUE sheets to work.
>>
>>167526398
Not him but my guesses are:

You could be using the 64bit ver of RA rather than x86
Your drivers could be out of date
You could not have the PS1 bios with the proper name or the proper version
RA may somehow now require a higher end PC than that even though it runs on Wiis and Xboxes when specifically compiled for them; I know I had a somewhat similarly poor PC and at some point between .9.9.2 and 1.0 it stopped working

If you want to post a detailed backtrace, install Dr. MinGW, then run the retroarch_debug.exe and choose "Debug the Program" when the crash occurs.

Those Windows crash reports will tell you almost nothing about what happened.

Mostly anonymity

I know I ask retarded questions instead of googling because you won't recognise me anyway and most of the time I get a better answer than a search engine, bar the insults (which is background noise after 10 years here)

I've seen people playing PS2 games at a proper 60fps on YouTube. Can't seem to get past 30fps. I've tried increasing EE Cyclerate as it says it may increase in-game FPS, but it doesn't do anything. Game logic is running at a solid 65fps even in the most demanding scene, so I figure I may as well try to push my in-game fps up some

Theres not actually inherent input lag caused solely by emulating something right? Obviously you got shit emulators like zsnes that have it but its not something that just comes with emulation?

i think i didn't specify the issue, i open RA and it crashes at startup (it's 32 bit just as my OS), i don't even get to see the ui, just a white window then crash.

>Vram is 32mb
>GPU is Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)

That's probably your problem. Try using video_driver = sdl2 (or gdi) in your config.
>>
>>167530227
look in the cfg file and see what it is using for the menu driver by default. If it's OGL you need ogl2.0 at least and your hardware may not be able to do that. If it's using dx then you may be okay on that front
>>
>>167530508

Oh and set menu_driver = rgui unless those drivers support XMB now.
>>
I did get it to work, RA that is, i changed the cfg file option "video driver" from gl to d3d.

it's working but... The pretty ui effects are gone.
>>
>>167530754
>>167530508
>>167530556
Why is SP so concerned about best backwards compatibility practices but then when someone with older hardware tries to use RA it just crashes at start up and he has to alter the cfg file himself to fix it?

>>167530882
Try >>167530754
>>
>>167530882
make sure you downloaded the full package instead of just the nightly update files
>>
>>167530957
At least you can alter a cfg to work around it. So it's still backwards compatible in that sense.
>>
>>167530508
it also worked, the gdi, but with some flickering.

sdl2 gave me a blank gray screen
>>
How do you get this save import business on Citra to work? I mean so I can launch Pokemon Y.

I've made the folders, followed the instructions of naming the folder with the game id, they look similar to a game that is working, but I can't get Pokemon Y to start.

Many save files I've downloaded were just named "main" and no filetype. I've tried everything, renaming it to Save_0 (which is the save file name of another game that is working), tried changing it to .bin since that's what the other game that is working has as save file type, but no dice. What am I missing?
>>
>>167531808
gdi will probably work better with RGUI. SDL2 driver doesn't support anything RGUI yet.
>>
>>167531808
Make sure you downloaded the one that juist says "retroarch.7z" not "(date)_retroarch.7z"

Most likely never. Maybe in like 10 years but that's unknowable.
>>
>>167521918
I was wrong, it doesn't need to be zipped, that's the BIOS. You should have another folder in roms named MPR with it in. If not, get the proper BIOS pack from the wiki.

>>167532716

Judging on how it's a one-man show and slow pace its development right now, I doubt it. Closest you can get is Play! but it's still need much work to do.

Thanks to all of you!

BO1 is extremely hard to run on a shitty modern PC (without a VM).

Mednafen ran it beautifully!

Now excuse me, i'll watch the intro cinematic for the 100th time.
