This is it. XCOM is finished.

Would probably be slightly more manageable if the game were less opaque. Apparently you can only melee after a dash if you do it in one command, and Implacable seems to be almost entirely non-functional.

>>167292231
Sneks have high dodge. Dodge also causes grazes. Graze band applies in addition to Dodge.

Example: Graze band is at 10. ADVENT Trooper has 0 Dodge and you have a 70% on him. chances are 60% normal damage, 20% Graze, 20% miss.

Your situation: Snek has whatever Dodge. You have 100% on him. You have (x=Dodge) chance to Graze, (100 - x) to deal normal damage.

In Vanilla (if you somehow had Double-Barrels in Vanilla), that would have been a Dodge:Memed complete miss.

Then use the search function of notepad and look for this
>StatDown=eStat_Defense
>StatDown=eStat_Dodge

Next to each line of code, there is one that says:
>StatDown_Amount=

Change each value to 1 for all the StatDown=eStat_Defense and StatDown=eStat_Dodge and then you are done, enjoy having soldiers with positive defense.

Yeah I know i'm a shitter, I just started playing this game.

But it is so frustrating difficult early game in EW getting satellites up. by the time I've gotten enough engineers to build a sat uplink, and money to buy more satellites there's already like 3 countries full panic.

Like I could take the abduction for 3 engineers from a country with 0 panic, or get 200 bucks from a country with yellow panic.

LW2 is honest about things when it tells you them. Its issue is that it doesn't tell you things too frequently. That's a Liberation mission, go win it. If you skip it, you'll get another Liberation mission later, but it might take awhile. I wouldn't skip it.

Nothing, optimal play is to take engineer abductions and sat according to panic levels. You can't realistically save all countries on impossible because too many panic, but for other difficulties you should be able to sat up everything red at the end of the month. But you really can't prevent the rise in panic, parallel abductions make it impossible - you just rush sats to save countries from falling.

The issue with EU/EW is that the first two months are the hardest, after that you snowball. LW fixes that.
>>
>>167300756
Had that happen to me on my last terribly fucked-up Scientist rescue. Managed to finagle it into everybody except a Rookie getting captured rathen than everybody getting fukken ded, but I did notice that the pistol I put on my Sharpshooter just wasn't there. He still shot and everything, but he shot a nonexistent gun.

Probably some magnificence concerning pistols being utility items rather than secondary weapons, no doubt.

Just finished my first play through of the campaign after getting the game about a week ago. This game is sick. What mods do you guys recommend? All I've been using so far is sassy vipers and a few voice packs. Also is the DLC worth it? Just what is Long War?
>>
>>167302527
I should have been more specific, the game is XCOM 2
>>
MADSEN LMG PORT WHEN

Despite being a BF1 port the Brazilian police still use the Madsen to this day
>>
>>167302527
Long war was the first mod for XCOM EU/EW. A game that wasn't meant to be modded. It was basically a fan expansion pack with a focus on a longer campaign, harder game, a large rotating roster of soldiers to call upon, and magnificent design.

The mod kept XCOM EU/EW alive longer than the expiration date, and kept people interested until XCOM 2 leading Firaxis games to commission the developers from the mod to mod XCOM 2 in the same way they modded XCOM EU/EW to drum up sales indirectly.

Uninstall all content based mods (cosmetic/UI mods are usually fine), and install the Long War 2 mod. I'd say it's in a rough state right now though compared to the first long war.

>not having negative defense tank assaults

>>

Long war is a longer, more hardcore version of xcom. The devs say it should take you about 100-150 missions to complete it. It also expands the classes and perk trees.

This map is quite something, but i think i would've been forced to abort the mission right at the start if i wasn't using true concealment. It took me a million turns just to realize there was no way up other than going inside, and i wouldn't have been able to go inside from the side i started the mission because there was a muton and an advent gunner on the second floor with tons of heavy cover they could use.

I had sent a my best shooters and equipment out on a troop ambush to maximize profits, when this mission popped up. I was going to ignore it until I noticed that the reward was hindering ADVENT from launching a retaliation in the region.
So I basically had a hodge podge group with no predator armor or laser weapons. I stealthed them behind the objective to a patrol deadzone, called in evac, rained rockets upon the objective, and then bailed before anyone got hurt. The relay tower had 30 hp, so not really a stealth optimal objective, which means you can't do it easily with the usual 2 man team.

>>
>>167313693
But now there is no aim penalty for moving. Being mobile is just too important, and snipers are technically about as durable as everyone else. Low profile helps alot. Add damn good ground defense to that and they become more survivable then the rest of your guys.

They don't.

Early game, it's trivial to get a sharpshooter (Corporal) with a laser rifle (+5 aim), tracer rounds (+5 aim), stock (+15 aim) Damn High Ground (+30 aim) with zero squadsight penalties.

Hitting things is not the issue at all - it's that their complete lack of mobility makes them an absolute liability in the vast kind of missions., and that there are other classes that do the same role better in a sense (like the gunner - who is even more mobile than the ranger and packs an auto-hit from corporal, making him both reliable and solid for picking off an enemy, before even factoring suppression).

What sniper sharpshooters need to become even remotely viable in that kind of mission needing mobility is some kind of 'go to ground' ability that lets them auto-evac themselves after a delay or something similar. The closest thing they have is conceal, but it doesn't help with timers.

They're a solid choice for missions that don't suffer from timers, but the problem is, well, so is just using a holotargeter. Or better yet, not using a sharpshooter at all.
>>
>>167313885
>stock (+15 aim)

If only we had some kind of ability that made killing an enemy only cost half an action... it'd be even better if that ability removed squadsight penalties, too. And just imagine if it was available from lance corporal onwards, wow. Sniper sharpshooters would be good from early game!
>>
>>167314008

>>
>>167314605
Probably should't have taken a blind bat as a ranger. Also grab the reroll if miss perk, grazes count for rapid reaction.
>>
So why the shit does losing health bonuses given by armour and utility items make you wounded?
>>
>>167314080
>You can't holotarget and shoot
I had no idea. Thanks for letting me know. You don't need it with the aim bonuses you can get though, really, and holotarget and shoot can only be done once every four turns. I like to shoot more often than that.
>It's not guaranteed to even trigger.
Is a fair point. Hitting is trivial with the absurd stacking aim bonuses, even against targets in full cover, provided you've stacked the deck (and they haven't, sergeants will still make you cry).

Dodges, however, will completely wreck your shit.
>>167314605
I remember some rocketeer mod gave Rapid Reaction at like first level. Watching a single soldier nearly singlehandedly wipe overwatch ambushes was great. It was amazing seeing it go from 'absolute garbage +3 aim' in LW1 to broken as hell in that.
>>
>>167314732
That's the thing, absurd aim stacking doesn't exist or is hell to achieve both in the strategic and the tactical layer.

As I just listed... with an advanced scope (+10), laser rifle (+5), advanced stock (+20) damn high ground (+30) tracer rounds (5) rank bonuses (11) and assuming you picked the autistic retard who fails at all stats but aim (say, 70+) you can easily have 145+ aim, guaranteeing a hit (well, graze) in full cover.

But it's honestly a fair bit of effort and short of defensive missions I find a gunner with Hail of Bullets works just as well for when I need them in a pinch, particularly since it ignores dodge/graze/etc.

>>167314837

Well we're taking that chance. Sent in my top covert ops-specced Shinobi to scout and carve a path and one of my Rangers with a Laser Rifle to carry out the assassination.
If they fail then oh well, its becoming more and more prevalent as I progress that this war isn't going to be won by playing it safe.
In the meantime though, ADVENT is carrying out an Intel Raid but they forgot to bring enough troops. So I get to bring 6 fairly well-equipped Corporals and Sergeants against Very Light activity. AYYPOCALYPSE NOW

>>167315210
Well, for at least one of those items let's just say I'm never out of stock. Scopes are relative priority to buy for obvious reasons and you get a ton of extra supplies (at least on veteran, since I'm shit at the game).

I mostly use scopes on my rangers too, but I've started to favour gunners over rangers due to having more flexibility - aoe with curtain, autohit with hail, single target with chain/cyclic, and they can do all this on the move combined with suppression, making them better in the mobile meta (ironic that gunners are more mobile).

The rangers secondary is godlike though, and amusingly makes them far better defensively than the gunner. How the turn tables.
>>
>>167315094

Isn't that just a cosmetic animation mod for vipers? It should be perfectly compatible.
>>
>>167315118
Nah, it was 85 aim unmodified. Rank is gunnery sgt (captain). I think part of the problem is that I went with a mix of defense and offense, for example I took fortify instead of grazing fire.

She has DGG and hit and run from the AWC though, which make her an excellent soldier, just not an overwatch bot. Vigilant too, so if she has to dash she's not completely useless. I think I took RR due to its inherent synergy with ever vigilant.

Prepare for hilariously imbalanced changes and unintuitive gameplay additions that both punish you for fighting and also punish you for not knowing everything about everything from minute one.
>>

The lack of mobility got exacerbated with some of the maps I've been rolling, where I have 8 turns of yellow moving and 3 turns of actually attempting to complete the objective.

Need some strategy layer tips for Long War 2. I seem to be running into a lot of missions where I can only send like four units. I'm not taking every mission, but am I really supposed to be skipping so many until I find one with 6+ days left? I keep sending four units in to handle like 20 aliums and it's just not working. Also that fucking reinforcement dark event is killing me. I think I'm about to overcome the odds and then suddenly I have five more all over me, and it's not even showing where they're going to drop like vanilla did.

I know you can do that, but I don't know how and I don't know how many people to keep in hiding or not. Is there some sort of indication that I should start putting people into hiding? At first I put everyone on intel, and when I got some more resistance personnel from missions I put those on supply/recruit.

After a while though I got a mission where ADVENT tried to hinder my intel gathering (basically a defend the beacon mission), so to avoid that you put your guys in hiding.

So I was thinking, people were stalking about how they didn't like the infinite tactical dark even stacking, but they enjoyed how ADVENT regional strength functions, which is a response to a successful player which forces you to decide whether to stay in a region, or decide it is too hot and move on.

So what if tactical dark events were instead regional resources that ADVENT can shuffle around in response to your activities? This would mean that different regions would have different tactical disadvantages to fighting in, and you escape some of the really bad ones by switching regions before ADVENT shifted their strength and tactical dark events to the region you have been running the most missions for. Strategic ones would still be global, with the obvious drawback that they expire after a month or two.

Furthermore, liberating a region could give you chances at missions to eliminate these tactical dark events, as now the ADVENT resources would now be vulnerable in essentially hostile territory.
Finally, just like you can intercept troop columns moving to a region, you could intercept tactical dark events moving to a region, those these should be extremely tough, as doing them after the liberating a region is the encourage way.
What do guys think? I think that adding this would shore up some player choice and control over their campaign and add some additional depth to the strategic layer. The rate at which dark events happen could be slightly sped up to compensate.

Better than missing altogether. If it helps, you can think of the enemy interfering with you lining up the shot. I mean, turn based system is supposed to be an abstraction of real life, and nobody is just going to just stand there and let you shoot them.

If you think about it, it's actually a lot easier to move out of the way of the shot in close range since the one holding the gun will have to make greater adjustments to account for your movement.

So it's a good idea to shoot for the baseline or less then? How sharply does the percentage go up/down?

Is it just like a flat % to %?

Like if you had 10 days for the squad to infiltrate but 8 days for the mission to expire you'd read 80% infiltration and have two more levels of enemies to deal with? Or if you have 8 days to infiltrate and the mission expired in 16 you'd have 200% infiltration and have three less levels of enemies to deal with?
Or is it less intuitive than that?

>>167346954
No, it's definitely possible. I think it adds and substracts the amount of percentage points according to the graze band; if you've set it to 10% and you're at exactly at 100%, you should have exactly a 10% chance to graze. If you're at 90%, you should have a 80% chance to hit, 20% chance to graze, and 0% chance to miss. If your accuracy is at 110%, you should have 0% chance to graze before factoring in dodge.

so xenonauts 2 is literally just going to be xcom2 with Time Units instead of Two Action right?

>The game is not a chronological sequel to the first game but involves similar events occurring in a parallel universe – this means we’re free to tweak anything in the first game that we think needs to be improved.
>The strategy layer is going to be changed more – the intent being to add more strategic choice to the game.
>Ground combat maps will support greater randomisation, allowing more long-term replayability.
>We’ll put more effort into the story this time around; the Chief Scientist will make a return but will no longer be the only character with a voice.

Considering it is set in the cold war, no, I don't think so. And by the time you add TUs, the tactical layer becomes completely different, so listing it like a minor difference seems wrong to me.

I'm coming from EU/EW and trying out XCOM 2.
Fuck this retarded game, seriously, i'm trying to play on normal ironman and its a lot harder than Enemy Unknown, I keep losing soldiers or they end up wounded for 20 days, pods activate a lot easier compared to EW, snipers have shitty accuracy with their -20% squadsight.

It's great. Raise an ADVENT zombie every 5 turns so they can either dash and slap something or explode in a 2 tile radius for 9-10 damage +acid with some extra great skills like Poison which is great for making an enemy a non-threat once per turn while also leaving room for another action and Undead Link to give a zombie more stats and armor.

Weebshit aside they're both legit well made mods.

Samurai class is over specialized in melee, they're great with a sword but suffer a pretty big aim penalty (-20 if I recall) to compensate and there's always the risk of activating a second pod when you send one to fuck an enemy up. Also has way too much flavour text for skill description, like seriously what the fuck.
Katana mod gives an alternative to swords, they deal less damage overall but ignore a bit of armour. There's also some other types of jap melee weapons but who gives a fuck about those. Vortex Katana are made one at a time and each costs a lot but they make up for it by being fucking hilarious.

Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me princess, but i don't play Xcom2 to play a stealth game and just rush to the objective every single mission that has timers. ADVENT strength is a direct reflection of ADVENT's perception of the resistance threat in that region. Sending your rebels into hiding will reduce or eliminate the risk of retaliation.

The more ADVENT strength in a region, more and stronger aliens are on missions, and reinforcements increase in frequency. At high levels, it's often best to set haven rebels to hide and operate in another region until things cool down.

What is up with avenger travel time on the map in long war?

I get a mission that says it has 6 days til expiration, yet when I fly the avenger over there the clock counts down 6 hours. And yet I still have 6 days expiration time when I'm configuring my squad???

Does the game just not count down expiration unless you're scanning?

Resident shitter between release of LW 1.0 and X2 that could not grasp this pen-ultimate intellectual tactic and generally made the general pretty hard to enjoy.
It's also just a common solution to everything on the tactical layer, so people would always list it as a solution to any problem.

Steam kept advertisingme an xcomlike called halfway so I played it.

>Blue and gold moves
>Half cover and full cover
Okay so this is just xcom
>Getting mired in firefights
>Allies and enemies alike are bullet sponges
>Can't get more than 50% chance to hit even on flanks
>Can't get guaranteed kills
Okay so it's just worse xcom

How come xcom is so alone in it's genre that every other game is so evidently an inferior knock-off? This was as true of the original 20 years ago as it is today.

>>167409076
No. You have to manufacture them individually but its not close to the research cost.
>>
Now that people are getting deep into their campaigns, what's the consensus on LW2? Fun? Tedious? What's good, bad, what needs adjustment? Is there any sudden death bullshit new players should be aware of?
>>
>>167409076
>>167409135
P. rifle research includes pistols and subs, while the storm gun, beam cannon and plasma lance have their own research.
>>
>>167408479
Nah, I've got 3 other regions that are entirely on intel so I'm not short on missions. I'm just wondering if there's any sneaky ADVENT bullshit that can happen after you've liberated a region that might be prevented by having resistance members on intel duty.
>>
>>167409263
Mostly good, but I'm not a fan of these two man stealth missions. It's not XCOM, I just want to kill ayys.

Rendezous get real fucking boring later on.

But facilities, HQ assaults, troop columns and supply raids are a lot of fun.
>>
>>167409452
>I'm just wondering if there's any sneaky ADVENT bullshit that can happen after you've liberated a region that might be prevented by having resistance members on intel duty.

Yeah, apparently they can try to retake the region, but I'm at coil guns and power armor and I've not had it happen yet.
>>
>>167409263
I think if the ratio of Stealth/Loud missions were inverse I'd like it a lot more. I love in the Infiltration mechanic, the game feels like it benefits from the slower pace both in tactical and strategic modes. Just not on the stealth missions
>>
>>167409076
Coilguns look better anyway and it's not gay alien shit.
>>
>>167409452
Not that I'm aware of. Any mission that occurs in a liberated region, be it Rendezvous or Region Invasion, won't have an infiltration time anyway. Toss 'em on Supply and let the dosh roll in.

>>
>>167411943
I've completely changed my tune on them since 1.1. Roasting ayys sat in high cover is delicious.

I'm actually tempted to try a roust technical and OW ranger at some point too.
>>
My Haven rookies generally have better weapons than my XCOM advisors. Does anyone put a lot of resources into keeping them up to date?
>>
>>167412220
Haven rebels take unused weapons from the armory. Advisers have whatever equipment you give them
>>
>>167412554
>take unused weapons from the armory
That can't be right, I ever had that many laser rifles, but my rendezvous team was all laser.
>>
>>167412074
I don't think they're that good early game, but when you get exo-suits and close combat specialist on your assaults they start to get strong. Roust can force tons of free CCS shots if set up properly, and if you're playing with Red Fog on you can greatly decrease the threat of a large pod by spraying fire everywhere.

I'm starting to prefer my flamethrowers over the rockets actually, mostly cause they're more reliable. I'd rather have a grenadier or a gunner for ranged AOE destruction, they just feel more reliable.

Another thing I've grown to love is the Incoming! officer ability, that thing is a fucking lifesaver the moment Mutons and Muton Centurions starts appearing. I've actually started baiting weaker grenade enemies (like advanced soldiers and officers) into wasting their attacks on grenades with it, since Incoming will completely negate a regular frag most of the time. I'd say its better than Get Some in every single way, but I can imagine that an officer in a squad with multiple crit rangers and a holotargeter sharpshooter can be extremely brutal. High-level holotargeting sharpshooters are fucking amazing honestly.
>>
>tfw frags don't destroy light cover in lw2

Do you just have to flashbang+flank everything now? I like the mod so far but fuck it's difficult and seems to require ronin to deal with sectoids and do shit + a dedicated sapper grenadier to remove cover. Feels like getting in any kind of a firefight is suicide
>>
>>167412742
It's fucking stupid as shit

I have been fighting pods infront of this building for 13 fucking turns now. I can't enter because there's cunts on the door.

I can't flank because there's a sectoid waiting to jump out the window and dick me hard

I couldn't flank the other way because there's another fucking pod out there

They've called reinforcements in twice now

Fucking Viper makes its first appearance avoiding all overwatch fire like a cunt.

Sectoid just spamming mind attacks from the back corner of the room.

I don't even think I have enough turns to burst the relay down. This is absolute bullshit. If I grenade a door fucking remove the cover god damn.
>>
>>167412742
Yeah, cover is much more durable in Long Dong 2. Gunners, Technicals and Grenadiers all get abilities that lets you destroy cover on a massive scale though, and blade shinobis/assaults when properly geared and supported can get right up in the shit, wreak havoc and get out alive. Stuff like holotargeting snipers and Officer abilities help a lot aswell.
>>
>>167413043
A sapper grenadier would probably help you in that situation. It's not a 100% cover removal guarantee but they can definitely put the hurt on advent inside (and especially on top of) buildings
>>
>>167412742
Also if you are playing with Red Fog on, sometimes you only need to wound an ayy enough to completely invalidate it. I've won missions with a few advents with 1-2 HP left desperately pursuing me every turn and missing every shot, even against people out in the wide open.
>>
>>167412742
Oh, and don't forget about shaped charges. I haven't tried them that much, their range is pitiful if not used by Grenadiers, but every time I've used one it has instantly destroyed even heavy cover completely. I think they count as a support grenade, so if you have a grenadier with Protector and Rapid Deployment, you get 2 of them if you put it in the Grenade inventory slot and you can fire it as a free action every now and then. It does not require any research to build.

No, it's equipment generated for the rookies. When you research laser they have a small chance to spawn with lasers, when you research mag it's a small chance for mags and a higher chance to get a laser, and so on.

Traitors can return, but I think it takes a very long time for them to return to the same Haven. Even removing just one can have a pretty massive impact on your income. I wish there was some indicator on exactly where expected supplies disappeared from, right now all you can do is guess.

Also I just found out that there is a small chance you can get missions to prevent a terror mission before they happen.

Probably shouldn't have sent these poor souls on that mission if I'd noticed the resistance.

Unless you are absolutely desperate, or its a mission were you can get bodies as loot, or you got an absolutely brutal A-Team that can handle it, NEVER EVER go for missions above Light resistance. I've even passed on free scientists and engineers cause of it, its not worth the risk/frustration.

Is securing the network tower a multi part mission? Does equipment use carry over or do I replenish my grenades and shit inbetween?

Its not, you just unlock the HQ assault mission after it, which is surprisingly not as difficult as I first thought it would be. Sure the baseline difficulty is Swarming, but the maps they use are REALLY large and there is no timer, so all pods are usually very spread out.

Right now what I want the most is a huge expansion on SPARKs. I can only see one or two builds being viable for them with the shitty perk tree they have right now, they don't have any inventory customization at all nor are their weapons upgradeable. They're just a hollow shell of the magnificence of Long Dong's MEC's.

The fact that cover is such an obstacle now, makes some of the missions complete suicides.

Enemy can entrench their asses into any fucking place and just potshot you until you either use that tech rocket/grenadier to get rid of their cover so anything worthwhile can be done.
To my experience assault/shinobi are not an answer, since both classes benefit when the enemy can be scattered and picked off, but as they are so hard to displce with you having limited options to actually force the enemy to "scatter", they usually just go in for a single chance at taking out an enemy, get "dodge: memed" and promptly slaughtered next turn.

This is just my experience though.
I just feel annoyed when I gotta prioritize sapper grenadiers & techs just to endure some of the trench warfare.
>>
>>167416905
It definitely opens up more the further you progress in the game I think. Assaults become much more destructive when they get CCS/Close Encounters and grazing band set to 0, and Demolition Gunners are much more reliable now than they were before.

There is one thing I'd very much like to try actually, and that is Wrecking Ball SPARKs. I figure that they would probably be able to destroy a TON of cover in one single turn.

Personally I never really gave a fuck about genemods, I thought most of them except the really broken ones were boring as fuck. The MEC's was the main draw for me and SPARK's just straight up suck dick in comparison. I really hope future LW2 updates overhauls them. I still use them, since with the right perk combination they can get ridiculously durable and protect your other soldiers reliably, its just that...That's really all they can do.

The ones I miss the most are the Jaegers, Marauders, Pathfinders and Valkyries, those were all awesome. The current skill tree for LW2 SPARK's works as a somewhat decent Goliath I guess, but thats about it.
>>
>>167418218
How does LW2 take advantage of the DLC content ?
>>
>>167418108
Medic Specialists really help keep them in the game. Aid Protocol has saved my shinobis/assaults many times and I've had several missions saved thanks to Revival Protocol. Even on combat specialists I always pick Revival Protocol, its just too good to pass up. If Interference had more charges then it might have been a good alternative, but as it stands I think its just too weak. Lightning Reflex assaults or flashbangs are just much better at clearing overwatch shots.
>>
>Highest ranked soldier gets hit for 5 HP but is later fully healed

The hunting weapons can be upgraded without triggering the Rulers, I think the Ruler armors have different stats as well. SPARK's are by default much more durable, do more damage with their weapons and have improved aim. They also have some new perks and I think some of their old ones have been altered. They're still pretty weak offensively, but can be extremely tanky and depending on how well Wrecking Ball works, they could potentially be some of the best cover destroyers there is (which is very important in LW2).

After messing around with it a bit more, I think Wrecking Ball might actually be a very good pick...Unless you are playing on Ironman. Still, glad to make it out of this with most my squad intact.
