I actually agree. I don't really dislike the game all that much, but the extreme closeups don't look very good, and even knowing why they kept the choppy animations doesn't suddenly make it look good.

The shaders and animation tricks were enough to do that, cutting down on frames was unnecessary.

That way the newer players have something to sink their teeth into, the older players have a way to get more damage from their efforts, and the newer players can transition into the harder combos once they're ready to up their game.

Things like Marvel's "magic series", gattling combos, mixed with link timing to extend the combos or tricky spacing to prolong stuff to that extra 10% damage.

These are what I like.

Problem with here is that games like that, Marvel and anime games, sure have easy basic combos, but they don't matter.

Fighting games used to be gigantic mainstream successes back with SF2 and Tekken3.

Mostly because they allow you to get in on the action quickly.

There's also a difference between learning the nuances of a game, learning matchups, setups, the neutral game and the combo grind.

You can include stuff like different combo routes that lead to different scenarios like knockdowns, more damage or corner carry and ways to spend meter, but just making them long and hard for the sake of it is lame.

This is the big problem with fighting games. Combos take center stage because that's all there is to do, so you end up having games filled with degenerate mechanics to sate peoples' appetites for even more absurd combos.

Compare this with games like DotA 2, which allows entire teams to perform combos while also having tons of other mechanics that encourage mind games.

Have you ever seen 5 players stun a single player perfectly so that he is never able to do activate his bkb? It's a lot harder than any fighting game combo because it requires 5 people to coordinate their stuns.

I said take chaining *something that everyone can do* and add a few difficult links *for the players that want to go for the higher damage* that punish you for attempting something harder.

I like chain combos because it allows more conversions usually. More conversions mean more ways in, which usually means a more offensive game.

Moving a mug now frees space without doubt, but is moving the mug really what you need to do to win? Is freeing space the right play? It largely depends on what the opponent will do. He will not just look in awe as you move the mug. He has made his own choices and strategies to win and you need to take that into consideration. You make an educated guess based on your experience, the opponent, the situation etc on what the right strategy is, weighting risks and rewards.

If you're playing a game where given a situation there is one perfect strategy that cannot be beaten, then you're playing a game that is competitively shit.

I'm kinda curious as to why you think preset links are bad because if you're doing a full punish on someone odds are you know the startup and active of the chain attack you're about to use to cram in as many of them as possible for the bigger strings.

Why not simplify that, so that people that complain about things being "too long" can get a similar reward for their time and the normal player can still reap the benefit of the easier chain version with a difference of about 5-15% * or 5-10% if you think 15% is too much* damage depending on how poorly the character is positioned when you fail it?

Give people a reason to look for openings to link to the better options, frame positives on harder to time mechanics.

Keeps the combos simple but still promotes learning the game as well as your opponents. I might not try a harder link for more damage if I know the opponent can punish me pretty consistently if I fail it.

Also you have absolutely no clue what top-tier even means. In BBCF, the characters who are top-tier is Izanami, Izayoi, Arakune, Nine, Carl, and Jin. Azrael and Valkenhayn are high-tier, but not more than that.

Azrael suffers fucking tremendously at top level because he has one of the shittiest matchups against Nine to the point where Zexo himself says it's basically unplayable. Not only that but he still doesn't beat Izanami, and his neutral is too weak to keep up against them. Celica is not top-tier by any definition of the word. She's a great scrub killer because of her gorilla normals and high damage output, but she gets fucked by several of the top-tiers, and her pretend-DP doesn't do anything to help her on defense. She has strong points, but if you think she's anything like the strongest in the game, then you're retarded.

Nu is garbage. Not bottom-tier, but never ever listed as above mid at best. She can't command the game at all, lost her strongest tools, and while her new special does wonders, it's still nothing compared to having shit like Spice Chaser.
