Each mDPS has a self-buff they need to upkeep through a combo.
Each mDPS has two DoT, one tied to a combo and one not.
Each mDPS has similar general attack abilities for their rotation.

Are you going to seriously argue that classes like AST/WHM and PLD/DRK literally don't have abilities copy and pasted to each other next?

Was looking for a name for Obvlivion found out about my boy Frank Epperson who invented the popsicle.
Used that name in Obvivion and several other games. In Persona 3 Portable I needed a name from the female protagonist so I went with Emily because I like the name and oh, Emily by Jukebox the Ghost was playing at the time. The name kinda just stuck for default girl names.

I don't remember anything about DPS in the other MMOs I played, but just look at tanks in WoW compared it FFXIV.

Every single tank is a mitigation tank in FFXIV. They all have some kind of low potency buff, one higher potency oGCD buff, and an "Oh shit" button.
WoW, from memory, has a tank that heals itself and puts up a shield based on how much damage it took over a period of time [Blood tank] and a tank that takes damage it's received and turns it into a DoT.

How about healers? Each healer in FFXIV does almost the same exact thing: keep a Regen/fairy heal on the tank/target and spam nuke heals.

There aren't unique healers like in every other MMO like the HoT healer and the nuke healer.

WoW has tanks that mitigate damage up front, tanks that heal back damage, and tanks that slow incoming damage so that they can be healed back.

WoW has DPS that rely on a variety of power systems, DPS that rely on DoT effects, DPS that rely on large, sparse hits, DPS that rely on short burst windows, and DPS that do sustained levels of DPS for long periods of time.

boiling it all down to "classes that have the same number of attack buttons or the same number of dots to apply are the same class" is an ignorant way to approach the issue, considering that half of the appeal of the class is not how the role it performs or how it performs it, but how the class acts, looks, and feels to use in that role.

In this situation however, I agree with whoever was saying FFXIV has very little variety as far as the means by which Tanks mitigate damage and DPS do damage. The jobs offer distinct styles and aesthetics to appeal to a variety of players, but if they're all doing the same exact thing with a different coat of paint (maintain 2 dots, work through 3 button combos) then they're offering very little from a gameplay standpoint, and poor gameplay is what kills MMOs.

Hopefully Stormblood will breathe some new life into the existing jobs to make them more unique not just in premise, but in playstyle and gameplay.

If i can just jump in here (im not the same guy you're arguing with), the reason why wow dps classes are more diverse than FFXIV classes is because FF only ever works off of two resources, TP and MP, and the vast majority of classes only actually use one of those (beyond mages using sprint). Wherein Wow has secondary resource systems like holy power, or runes etc that makes the classes more different. More than that, not every class has the same basic resource. Rouges have energy, death knights have runic power (i think thats what its called?) and those two energy types interact very differently. It all works together to give the classes a pretty unique feel that FFXIV has so far failed to similarly emulate. Most dps classes in FFXIV are
