Most of the interpreter is just plain GML (with some functions blacklisted), but yal also added support for a wait(); function, ternary arguments, and other neat bits that have been pushing the actual release of the modding update back for a while. It's gonna be great.

I'm doing Rerun myself.
Relying on instant Taurus proc, so I can zoom in and kill the enemy with Sacrificial Dagger. Every kill gives me a blue spider thanks to based Infestation 2. Every time a blue spider kills an enemy, they also spawn a blue spider to replace the one that killed them. Carrying double Algiz on top of potentially having double Dead Cat, because you can never know what shit can happen. Also Smelted AAA Battery and Lucky Rock in an earlier loop, and I have Sack Head too, so now I have endless consumables and can live forever if I don't fuck up.

It's not. I see that now. It's just that at any point I could have lost the key things that got me this far (Pause, Sac Dagger, Taurus, Infestation 2, 9 Lives, etc.) but I got lucky. 4th cycle, and I lost all of those except Sac Dagger, and relying on Guppy Flies and Holy Shot to get the job done.
Since it's automatically Hard Mode, and I have like two Dead Cats plus Collar again, I'm going for Delirium.

Runestone Keeper.
I got it from one of the recent Humble Bundles. I think it's pretty neat.
It's got some balancing issues and some annoying grinding required to unlock permanent buffs/run-specific bonuses but I find the turn-based combat, unlocking the grid to reveal hidden traps, treasures and enemies, RPG mechanics and balancing your use of attacks, items and spells to be a very enjoyable experience.
The balancing issues are probably the biggest problem. There are certain characters that just make everything a cakewalk if you know what you're doing and by playing on Hard and using a specific Runeword (essentially a run modifier that changes a specific function in the next run to make things more difficult in exchange for a bigger score multiplier at the end of your run), you can earn around 10,000-18,000 gold at the end of run instead of what would normally be a bonus of 500 gold.

There's a lot to love but some annoying design decisions like that. It's definitely worth at least a pirate.

Multiple reasons

1: Isaac is far and away the best game in this genre thanks to its variety. Gungeon, NT, SR and Dungeon Souls tend to feel far more samey each run. You generally won't feel as weak as Isaac can leave you but not as stupidly strong either

2: Isaac has a very good wiki. If you want to ask something its faster to just google it.
Contrast this to roguelikes which do very well on VG where it has an absurd number of forks of games and the best way to find something out can be to just ask, giving the thread a reason to exist.

3: Growth in these games is largely random. You can't really discuss builds unless your sat in a room with multiple nice items because you have no real control on what will spawn.
Roguelikes have both random items and let you decide ''my dragon man will be good at melee'' and you can ask ''what kind of melee is good? should i just roll a mage?''. The only one of these games that really allows that is Dungeon Souls which no one plays anyways

Nose Goblin has a pretty high trigger chance, for a Trinket, and is a great Damage Up so long as the target doesn't go underground/off the screen/teleport.
My favorite Trinket is still probably Giant Bean.

Not only is it fucking important to be able to dodge things, it's also useful to be able to outrun chaser enemies (especially if you don't have high damage yet and/or piercing tears).

Speed can be dangerous when too high, but it is pretty important to some level.
