Reality TV show or not, chapters 1 to 5 have a solid plot with a good cast of characters that all bounce off each other...and then there's chapter 6 with every single bad DR plot device shoved into it, also DR1 and DR2 didn't happen.

I still don't like that she was going to frame Kaito and in fact that was the real reason why I despised her since Ouma's act was too convincing for everyone, but in light of this Ouma's remarks about people lying (He calls out Kaede and he also calls out Himiko in chapter 3's trial) takes a tragic turn because he actually did hate lying all along and though he was sometimes really mean about it he was trying in his own way to tell people that lying about themselves in this sort of game is a quick way to pain, suffering and death.

Ouma of course had his own reasons why he couldn't trust others, but no one else had any reason to do things his way. Sadly people like Miu were never able to get over their insecurities and broke down before dying, which is just plain tragic even if you disliked her.

Let me try and explain this.

Sayaka's motivation to get out was her friends. Her backstory seems to imply her band was the only people she considered to be her true friends and that counts for a lot in the idol industry which is anything but cutesy under the surface.

Sayaka is absolutely nothing without her friends and her face as an idol, and she acted before she had any idea that everyone else would die because of her- had she known the rules before she died, it's possible she wouldn't have acted the way she did as she was regretful at the end.

Miu on the other hand tries to act tough but she's actually very timid and shy. Over time I suppose like Ouma she noticed the group breaking up and distrusting each other more and more, and she resorted to drugs to cope. When that didn't help she completely lost it- She wants people, she wants to help people!

So she tries to kill Ouma but she's actually not happy about it, just like Sayaka was. Their circumstances both end similarly, but the motivations are pretty different.

Yeah her words may have some truth but I do smell some lies too. That's exactly why going to a previous killing game or two with Amami may give us more insight on how this whole system may work.

Yeah Kiibo is definitely likable. Too bad he's not a hit with the nips but either way I could see exploration on how he got involved with Team Danganronpa since those guys are still a mystery. Before the next main sequel we'll probably get more insight and foreshadowing about them in the prequel and spinoffs just like how DR0 was setting up the Izuru thing along with SHSL Despair from DR1 going into DR2.

Just realized the Team Danganronpa may have access to Mitarai's Brainwashing technology and used it on the viewers watching the Killing Game so they become addicted to Danganronpa. When Saihara told the audience to end Danganronpa through Kiibo, he ended up Brainwashing the entire planet to stop watching Danganronpa.

I'll admit that my real reason for disliking Maki isn't even the fact that she pretty much killed Ouma since he played her like a fiddle in that regard.

Rather, during chapter 5's Scrum Debate Maki insists that Kaito must have died under the press due to the video, but Ouma was injured, he's a weak shorty who can barely lift up a cage on his own and Maki should remember this because she lifted him and strangled him twice.

So clearly there had to be some reason why Kaito was under the press and since Ouma couldn't have lifted him he probably had some deal with Kaito, right? But no, of course she keeps saying things like "No, the mastermind is still alive... and they're inside that Exisal" and I wanted to flip a table seeing such an amazing lack of logic on display.

Maki's other flaws such as trying to keep to herself are pretty great since her character arc is solid, but being an Oumafag I could rant for hours and hours on the times when he called out the cast on things they overlooked and how his entire tragedy can be summed up with the picture of the press and a "You didn't listen" caption.

Yeah, do they just erase Kiibo's memories of the previous killing games or what? Even with how chapter 6 in DR games tends to be crap we're reaching Hope Arc tier levels of bad writing where everything is fake, somehow every display of SHSL talent in the game is just camera tricks or placebo effects, everyone is a brainwashed normie, people are okay with these killing games because they love DR and no other reason is given and for some reason the cameraman gets an elaborate backstory that gets wiped out after every game.

What would have been more fun to me is if the actual brainwashing was them slipping into complacency and that's why you see Ouma keep trying to kick people's asses into gear. Not only is it still subtle, your only foreshadowing would have been coming from a self-proclaimed liar so you wouldn't notice it unless you compare how differently this group acts in comparison to the DR1 and DR2 casts.

And in-game, there's no real tension between them unlike Komaeda and Hinata. While the idea of the detective and the thief sounds good, Ouma acts flirty and shitty with everyone and Saihara doesn't even get that many interactions with him.

The thing I like about Ouma's character is that it's extremely hard to read him even after you establish that he wasn't actually the villain at all.

Although he knows exactly how to rile people up whether to piss them off or to make them hot and bothered, he's also cute and innocent-looking enough that you'd probably confuse yourself wondering which of this is the real him.

Personally I think it's both since he's shown with Miu and Saihara that how he approaches these things differs depending on the person he's interacting with.

As for Ouma he raises so many damn questions it's a headache trying to process all of it. There's a number of hints that Supreme Leader was never his actual talent (Even a dev blog mentions he could have been lying about it), we don't know why he's so self-aware when no one else was or how he managed those feats of his in the FTEs. He also tells Kaede she erased him from her memories, but it's not clear if he's referring to them meeting in the prologue or whether he's referring to something more overreaching than that.

Then for Kiibo he has an absurdly elaborate backstory for a mere cameraman complete with telling us he died once before and, all in all these three are our biggest clues that there's a lot more to the setting than the ending suggests.
