Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (speccy screenshot), OS, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

News:
Retroarch now has netplay functionality for most cores. Get the latest nightly.
Cemu 1.7.0.d is out - check the wiki for info on getting games, etc.

>>166742935
That's what I thought.
I've often wondered if the solution to Xbox emulation would be to do something similar and emulate specific games, since there's only a handful of worthwhile titles for the system that weren't multiplat.
>>
>>166743706
Thats less of a solution and more of a N64 emulation tier hacky method.
Still that would be hard to achieve because of the complete lack of knowledge and interest in Xbox emulation.
>>
>>166744316
I guess I'm thinking more from an enduser rather than a preservationist perspective, to be fair.

Gonna try getting Dolphin to work.

Can I play Super Mario Galaxy without waggle? Does an Xbox controller have enough inputs to simulate waggle to an extent?
>>
>>166757917
It works great. Thanks senpai
>>
>>166758389
The only waggle in Galaxy is shaking to spin and using the cursor to collect and shoot bits.

You can map shaking to any button, I recommend left or right bumpers.
The cursor movement can now be properly mapped to an analog stick and it won't snap back to the center of the screen like before.

Provided you don't mind moving a cursor with an analog stick, you can play Galaxy and Galaxy 2 without dealing with waggle.

Consider the percentage of people that even know what an emulator is, let alone how to use one. Now consider how many of those people can be bothered to jump through retroarch's hoops, when they can use a perfectly good standalone with almost no effort.

Apparently a good deal of people don't mind. And saying standalone emulators take no effort to setup is an untrue.

Not 100% on whether or not this is the right place to ask (since it's not strictly an emulation question, just a general "getting old software to work" one.) but you're smart guys so it's worth a shot.
I've got a persistent problem with Microsoft's Flight Simulator 98 on Windows 7.

You can see the same problem seen in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSrwrur8eiE - the game works in cockpit view, then turns completely black if you switch to the outside views.

I know I could just virtualbox this to make it work, but I'm interested if there's a solution to getting it running natively.

My suspicion is that it's a problem with DirectX (Probably v5.0*) or Direct3D (3.0 or 5.0*), but that doesn't bring me any closer to a solution that doesn't involve virtualization, which just induces the new problem of getting a joystick to work.

I tried playing with D3DWindower, dgVoodoo2 and nGlide but the problem remained.

*Estimated Chronologically.

It wasn't a hint, but since you seem to have some good sense: Dreamcast _anything_ is a crapshoot. Emulation has the lowest rate of success, but even burning shit to disc is like playing Yahtzee unless you've already done this before and know how it reacts to burned media (not all behave, later models straight up don't read -R media at all).

In answer to your question: simply burning media to disc could fix your problem, introduce problems unique to that use-case, or exhibit the same problem. It really does depend on where the fault actually lies.
>>
>>166805158
I have my original dreamcast from when i was 9 here. got a few other burned games that work fine like jet grind radio and a few fighting games, but it's been ages since i've done this sort of thing or even bothered to keep in the loop. there are so many different releases for shenmue specifically, and i have a link to to one that claims to be a perfect rip, but no one can detail with clarity the problem any of the other rips have, or how this one fixes it, etc. etc.

all this because i bought a copy of the game a few days ago, arrived today, and disc 1 doesn't load half the time. i'm just gonna return it and buy a different copy i think. it's a game worth owning anyway.

It works on the leaked 4chan rls as well as present Patreon rls, if that matters.

No doubt due to how the current implementation (the loader) works, they will have to change things up in their system. I wonder if they will have a registration portal like tons other companies using VMProtect 3 use to manage licenses.

Or they can use VMP/Obsidium to simply obfuscate things drastically by wrapping core code in a VM (which WILL slow emulation down) just for the sake of their Patreon dollars.

I have 2 stoga wii motion + built in remotes and nunchucks. It was cheaper to buy 1+nunchuk on amazon than to buy 1 wiimote on its own.

The controllers are slightly smaller than normal wiimotes. One one the buttons has to be pushed very hard to register and the a buttons feel a bit stickier than normal. They work fine though and are perfectly usable.

AMD GPU are a very bad idea if you care about PS2 emulation, expect many issues, it's gotten a tiny bit better but not by much.

PPSSPP and the MSX ones, probably other.
If you care about 32X RA doesn't have any good option either.

PS1 is good on RA as long as you have a Vulkan capable GPU with decent drivers or an half decent CPU and don't care about muh HD.

He ditched Unsaturated after RGBSource said it was inaccurate and made his NESCAP palette from a raw capture and many people preferred a non-tweaked capture

FBX then made "Nostalgia" by the same method as NESCAP, which is now named "Composite Direct", then made the "Original Hardware" for displaying on a CRT. "PVM Style" is made for LCDs to display the same colors as his PVM CRT.

The people donating to Cemu now aren't people who want early builds, they're people who want to donate toward development.
Even if Cemu was open source, most of the people donating would still donate. And the emulator would only benefit.

DKC and DKC2 are both excellent platformers. DKC2 has one of the best soundtracks ever composed by David Wise. DKC2 is also the better game.

Kirby Super Star is another great game, arguably one of the best on the system.

LLTP obviously, its a masterpiece.

Mega Man X and X2 are both great games. X3 is held back by its sparse enemy placement and poor level design.

Secret of Mana was my favorite game as a kid and got me into ARPGs. The only thing I don't like about it today is its slow combat system when it comes to spells. Still a great game.

Super Mario RPG is a fantastic entry, especially if you haven't tried Paper Mario or its sequel yet. Its a great introduction to the series and incredibly humorous.

Super Mario World is worth a try if only to experience it. While its a great game, DKC and its sequels are better platformers.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, on the other hand, is an incredible game. Check out an ADGQ speedrun of it if you're interested in that stuff.

Other great games: Super Metroid, FF6, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Secret of Evermore, Seiken Densetsu 3

Other good games: Mario Kart, F-Zero, Joe & Mac, Turtles in Time

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but the SNES is my favorite system and I'm trying to finish 50 games for it.
>>
>>166894337

They all rely on user-submitted preconfigs. These are almost never updated in a timely manner, and contain settings that may be highly machine-dependent anyway. This results in only the most popular games ever getting regular preconfig updates (the proverbial "top 10 or 20"), and even then only for the most common hardware (almost always a Windows-Nvidia combo).

And if you add an extensive plugin ecosystem into the mix forget it, it's just become more akin to alchemy than a fucking logical science.

ALBW was good because of where it differs from ALttP, not because of where it overlaps. ALttP was linear as all fuck while ALBW is the most nonlinear Zelda game since the original on NES. ALttP had fuck all to do in the overworld while ALBW had maiamais (which are actually just Link's Awakening's secret seashells, since, again, LA is a much better game), rupee caves with their own puzzles to solve, using the wall-walking mechanic to find heart pieces, etc. ALBW is good because it takes the shitty world of ALttP and puts a good game in it.

I then went on to argue that innacurate or flawed translations that take liberties can also be better than the original so even if arouse was used incorrectly that wouldn't have made it a bad game and in fact might have even improved it.

Having said all that I believe in earnest that Tales of Phantasia, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma and Earthbound are all better SNES games than aLttP.
>>
>>166913470

The amusing thing is, you'll find me agreeing with you on every one of those.

Except Terranigma.

Was it the set piece gimmick stages falling over themselves all around you to mask the fact that the level designs are uninspired trash? Or the total shit physics? Or maybe the nonexistent bonus stage variety? Second Kongs turned into nothing but throwaway powerups? The awful enemy characters? There's so much to choose from I can't decide where to begin.
>>
>>166914903
I'll focus more on tropical freeze since I've been playing it recently:
We'll start with the level design, which is phenomenal in places. Levels such as the first Savanna level in which all enemies dance in time with the music, including various obstacles which you have to climb on, designed to look like giant marionettes of african animals.
How about the water levels in which harmful anemonies move out of the way for lightgiving fish, which not only light your way but will allow you to pass by these enemies, while also having to avoid them because they'll damage you otherwise.
Climbing is interesting and opens up vertical platfoming to more than just jumping up a series of platforms.
Everything in the wold that you can interact with looks like it should be there, no floating platforms or anything (although I don't recall the original having problems with this).

Second Kongs as powerups is preferable to them being an extra life that takes centre stage away from DK in my opinion. The different Kongs allow you to tackle levels in different ways.

Bonus stage variety - it's at least as good as DKC which I remember as just being one for each animal friend and they were mostly just stacks of bananas in a wide open area.

Awful enemies, you're referring to DKC, right? Rats, Crocodiles and bigger crocodiles with shit tier boss fights. DKCRTF has some of the best multi phase platformer boss fights I've ever seen. The bosses have multiple ways to take them out too, you can take risks to beat them quicker rather than waiting for them to present an obvious weakspot.

Lots of replay value due to puzzle pieces, secret levels and a dedicated time trial mode on every level.

Did you not read my bit about the fish? That was level design and it meshes perfectly with the art design. There are levels where the main obstacles are tentacles as you avoid a kraken throughout most of the level while it pursues you, poking its tentacles through holes in walls and peering at you through gaps in cliff-faces. They've matched the graphics up with gameplay to make something that feels like a lived in world or scenario, rather than just having spiky deathtraps that spin around.

>Adding optional 68k overclocking is very trivial though, only a few lines changes in m68kcpu.c to turn the clock multiplier (MUL) which is actually fixed to 7 into a configurable parameter (lower the value to increment clock speed, up to ~53 MHz if multiplier is set to 1), but I don't want to do it personally because making this configurable would make the 68k emulation code quite unoptimized and slower for very little benefits (only a few games would support it).

TWO (2) questions:

1. Citra requires (imo) high specs. Is this because it's early in development and it isn't optimized, or will it always be like this? For example, did PPSSPP/Desmume require high specs in their beginning too?

2. Why is Desmume x2x3 and so on resolutions on RA so much more demanding than standalone Desmume? Is it because it's software rendering? In which case, any way to use GPU?

PPSSPP's system requirements have stayed consistent throughout its existence because it target android devices too.

They aren't. Its just that Desmume itself is an unoptimized turd struggling to run games even on mid end PCs.
If you really want high resolution rendering and don't mind jumping through hoops then you could emulate Drastic using any android emulator. Not only does it run better even with high res rendering, it has more UI options and even less glitches in some cases.

Every nintendo console after the SNES has less than 20 good games, and most of those are only fun with friends.

Meanwhile Sony had more than 50 good titles up to ps2 (then came ps3 and 4 with no games)

Now not even PC has good titles, the panorama is really dire.

Kirby 64 is garbage. Its a significant downgrade from Super Star even though it was made 4 years later. It's an insult to the Kirby franchise.

Yoshi's Story, even for its time, isn't good either. It's alright, but hardly a good game. The music is terrible.

Nobody is afraid of forks, that's not what this is about and you are again (voluntarily ?) reading it wrong. Loganmc left because of SP dictatorship and his constant finger-pointing attitude against devs who don't agree with him or don't follow his agenda to make "RA great again".

No idea why you keep defending this dude, he is hypocritical and is only led by his own interests and ego issues. He is clearly incapable of managing a project without alienating each of his contributors.

I would rather vote for his destitution, this would be no big loss, let's have some real project manager in charge and not some 3rd-grade frustrated refactorer.

Yea that bothered me a bit. Seems like he's desperate to have logan back.
>>
>>166983981
I'm not but I can understand where this comes from.

I guess you like insensitive people like SP who spend their time shouting how great he is and how stupid others have, while I prefer people actually contributing valuable work and respecting other's work.

I'm realistic also, there have been endless drama and people quitting because of SP's attitude and incapacity of interacting with other devs, if RA ends up with only Radius as developer and SP as a leader, this is clearly the end of the project, and I definitively don't want that.
>>

Also, looking over a second time it looks like fr500 solved the problem and asked if he wanted him to send a PR on it. Instead he just got all butthurt and quit.

>>166984210
That's not how I've read it but I guess, everybody has his own reading grid.

He left because of SP harsh words against him and other devs (most of them were edited though), despite the work they contributed to libretro so far, one single disagreement and he got all mad and nasty, showing his true face and telling what he really think about the devs along this time. That's for his hypocrisy.

Logan never said he 'won't accept their fix', he said he preferred to wait for a better fix that could be maintained upstream. SP was not happy because he wanted to make a new 'stable' release 'as soon as possible' and this would negatively impact N64 netplay, which he thinks could be a major 'selling' point (and likely more bring shekels on his patreon). That's for twisting others words when they don't meet your own expectation.

Logan then argued that they don't respect open-source because they only use it as a mean to fulfill their own needs (aka RA glory) and quite never contribute back to projects and do not give any shit about original devs wishes or expectations. That's for selfishness.
>>
>>166980618

Logan violated Project64's copyright, yet has the NERVE to say SP is against open-source..

>SP was not happy because he wanted to make a new 'stable' release 'as soon as possible' and this would negatively impact N64 netplay, which he thinks could be a major 'selling' point (and likely more bring shekels on his patreon).
If you want to talk about selfishness, how about the fact that Logan downplayed the performance issue? It's not his problem, so he acts like it's insignificant..

Anyone who obsesses about personalities are doing so because they are just as bad or worse and are trying to ignore their own flaws by focussing on others. Just look at kiwi farms for a good example of this.

The people who are always proclaiming that such-and-such developer is such a shitty person are immediately suspect in my eyes when the worst the developer has ever done was bitch at someone on a forum or IRC or reject a patch or something else minor. You have to be a special kind of loser to go on endless crusades against that developer over such minor offenses, especially when you yourself are no developer at all and produce nothing.

The above applies to many people, both in this thread and elsewhere.

Ah, gotcha. So copy my original config file and rename it, make a new one and name it vulkan, rename the old one to the default.
Thanks for the help.

Download a decrypted copy and then apply the mod yourself. That's what I ended up doing.
>>
>>167006885
I don't think you need to copy anything
I think you just set it to vulkan and then hit save new configuration
Haven't done it in a while so maybe I'm wrong
>>
>>167006984
Damn nigga is that Default or Second?
I was indeed talking about BD, i never touched anything 3ds ever so I do not know how to apply a mod

Is it playable in citra After the mod?
>>
>>167007074
Alright. Just being cautious.
>>
>>167007134
It's BD. There's an uncensored decrypted BS download in the 3dsiso citra thread.
>i never touched anything 3ds ever so I do not know how to apply a mod
I didn't either, just download the mod files and HackingToolkit3DS. Extract, copy over the modded files, then rebuild.
And then save edit to get some of the costumes:

Of course.

Uncensored as in quest line and choices restored?
>>
>>167007837
I think it's just costumes.

Is there a compatibility spreadsheet or forum thread for Mednafen/Beetle's Saturn emulation yet? Really just wanna play Sega Rally Championship and Policenauts for now (do those work?), but a list would be nice.

Perfect, thank you. That's an impressively small list. I realize the Saturn's library isn't all that large, but still.

Wtf why would they make unobtainable coatumes
>>

Those are just known issues m8
There could be some edge cases or some stuff that gets fucked up later in the game.

So does Genesis netplay work for anyone?
I keep seeing servers up for genesis games but they never work, always says it can't find compatible content even though I have the right rom and core
>>
>>167009724
Thanks man
>>
>>167010502
I can only see a RA test room running Streets of Rage 2 on Picodrive.
I am able to connect to it but the 1P isn't connected so I was stuck at the character select.
>>
>>167010502

Use picodrive instead of genesis plus gx

There was a Mean Bean Machine up today but I couldn't join that either

Maybe read better next time?
I said DSi BIOS, not DS BIOS.
They're different.
The wiki only has the latter.

The former (BIOSDSI7.BIN and BIOSDSI9.BIN) are nowhere to be found on the net.

They contain console specific keys but with the DSi being permanently offline it's not like it fucking matters that Nintendo can ban anyone sharing them. There's no dumps anywhere online for the damn things.

DSiWare ROMs are encrypted like 3DS games and NO$GBA needs a dump of the DSi BIOS to decrypt them to boot them at all. Otherwise it tries to boot them in regular DS mode (which kind of defeats the point since any other DS emulator can try that - and get a white screen or "DSi only" screen).

Which version of Resident Evil should I get? original, DC or DC+DS
>>
>>167011748
Just play REmake.
Its better in every way.
>>
>>167008594

Completed it on SSF.
No BIOS, region set to Japan.
No music in the intro and credit rolls, and the attract mode crashes the game. But otherwise, it's fully playable.

Use save states because there's a weird musical quiz in Japanese in the later stages and any wrong answer means you repeat the whole thing. Avoid save states when facing the final boss (after the dopplegangers) because that tends to crash SSF for some reason.

Can I use a PS4 controller for nintendo emulator?

Basically will one controller cover me for different types of emulators, or is there additional software I need to download.
>>

because they weight less and if its the same game for less space why not

Any free source for frontend stuff that isn't emumovies? Besides that torrent on TPB.
>>
>>167012639

What controller do you use?
>>
>>167013004
A generic USB one modeled after Dual shock but without any pressure sensitive buttons for gamecube and below.
A motion+ and a nunchuk for Wii.
You can use a fucking keyboard if you're adaptable enough.
>>
>>167013240

Ah okay, I only have a PS3, and PS4 controller. I can't do keyboard.
>>
No Matter what internal resolution and what interlacing mode I select in pcsx2 (tried also none), I get a ghost double image of characters during the cutscenes of final fantasy XII.

In fact not the actual prerendered videos like the intro, but the ones which use 3d models, forgive my bad English.

What can I do?

>I only have a PS3
That shit is ideal for emulation
6 pressure sensitive buttons and 2 analog triggers. The only problem is getting the software to recognize it.

>>167013694
That is just the game's post processing effect getting fucked due to the higher resolution. If it bothers you that much you could switch to software mode during those cutscenes using F9.
The effect itself is hardcoded in the game. Its just that it gets a bit too exaggerated at higher resolutions. You'll get used to it

You could also enable half pixel offset hardware hack to fix it but that fucks up the depth of field effect in the cutscenes.
>>
>>167013694
Use skipdraw.
>>
>>167014872
Any side effects?
I'd deal with it if the alternative is ruining the main game
>>
>>167014963
Just see what happens. It works for some stuff. I use it when ghosting happens and everything else usually seems normal. Maybe fucks up the positions of shadows in some games.
>>
>>167014963
skipdraw is just a hack that completely removes some effects
It might break some shit or it might not. Its also not a binary option so you'll need to fuck around a bit with it.
>>
>>167014963
Before trying that, set your CRC Level to Aggressive to see if that changes anything.

Deadly Silence is the best way to play the original

REmake is it's own beast and should be played after to better appreciate it.

>actually expands the mansion making the basement a complete level instead of ~3 fucking rooms
>more challenging
>more puzzle elements and choices like the Crimson heads
>straight up better graphics that aged better than the first one
>more responsive controls and an alternate control scheme
There is literally no reason to play RE1 when REmake exists.
>>
>>167016901
This.

ReMake and original are basically different games. Play ReMake and Deadly Silence (classic mode).
