Ok. So for research you still rush lasers. Hire enough dudes to start and fill up your skyranger to full (14) and then load up on scientists. You will want more scientists before engineers. Use smoke grenades as they actually break LOS in this game. Explosives are still king. Explosive damage is the most reliable damage type. Load up as many soldier as you can with nades, HE bricks, Heavy canons with HE rounds, and have a rocketeer or two. Do not exit your skyranger on turn 1. All aliens have full reactions score and will cut down your people as they exit. Instead, smoke your ramp and wait for them to move around. Make sure to get a large radar up asap as well as alien containment. Stun rods are purchased from the market. You will need to engage ayys at close range. Build your base so that the access lift and Hangar are seperate from the rest of your buildings. This is because in base assaults, the aliens infiltrate through these points, so it makes for a good defensible chokepoint. If you can avoid night missions do not go on them. If you can't avoid night missions, bring electro-flares. Laser rifles are extremely good once you get those. Auto-fire is almost always the most efficient fire mode for both chance to hit and damage. Sell all your ayy corpses and most of your plasma weaponry for mad cash. You can manufacture and sell some items as a source of income (see laser canons, but medkits and laser pistols also work). As soon as you have enough cash to set up a base, you probably want to. Consdier your radar coverage for base placement. I think a Middle East base that covers all of Europe is the best starting location.

That's alot of stuff off the top of my head. Go to UFOpaedia if you have specific game mechanic questions. Read through the in-game ufopaedia to understand all the equipment you have in game. Have fun.

Its simply not fun. Fighting 13~ Ayys because there is only 1 path and they all patrol around it and you're stuck on the shitty walkway isn't fun. You can't play around it, you can't outthink it. Its a numbers and terrain game you have no control over.

I like LW2 because the simple reason of i dont have to do shit i dont want to, fuck extracting or killing that VIP or doing supply raids.

I mean, the grunt commander's hat needs to be red, it's impossible to get a black blaklava on the shotgun grunt, tower's cap needs to be a solid green, as well as the standard grunts helmets need to be a green camo while their uniforms are just black and white.

In my experience theyr've been dead weight exclusively. Just consider that you could have another grenadier with 3 flashbangs instead of a sniper.

I just had to prune some faceless from a haven with a sniper as the adviser. It was horrible, lost 3 fucking guys.

Pods coming towards sound is fine, them being able to shoot is not. You cannot position your troops in a manner that protects them from all sides, and there is no way to prevent the pods from moving towards you.

My XCOM2 save wont freak out if I uninstall Anarchy's Children DLC, right? Since it is just cosmetics. Some anon said that uninstalling it fixed the post-mission landing gear lock bug for him. I put it more to being that the Elders don't need such an easily discovered unit anymore. When the initial invasion hit they clearly served their purpose, but now that it's over and (in public) aliens are somewhat accepted as normal, engineering Vipers serves no purpose when Faceless can do a better job without the resource cost of making them look like cheap lawyers.

They're not balance-breaking weapons, and the opportunity to change up my playstyle in the early game is pretty nice. If anything, I think their inclusion was a bit shallow. LW2 sucks cock. The stealth mechanics are fundamentally broken, between the pod pathing and ITT. The "lowered" value of a soldier is false, since your recruits dry up almost immediately if you're taking casualties and if you're playing correctly you should have a ton of haven support dedicated to Intel and Supples, not Recruit. Also the infiltration system is bad, since you have defined breakpoints in crew capacity and infiltration meter, meaning that if you can get to 99% infil you get punished heavily, since your squad is too big for 100%, but you can't add to the squad so you're going into a +50% pods activation becuase you failed by 1%.

I fucking hate LW2, and am disappointed to a level that shocks me, I guess I liked LW1 much more than I thought i did.

Anyone know how much enemies can deal with their base damage found on the wiki? I read that it was similar to the base damage of weapons e.g. 3 base damage(smg) -> 2-4. However one of my rookies was hit for 5 HP by a simple sectoid in the first month(so alien research couldn't have had increased their base damage).

LW2 fixed the most glaring problem with vanilla, which was cover was terrible and allowing any alien to take a single shot was a massive liability that almost guaranteed people would die. So the meta was completely nuking pods before they had a chance to fight back, and it was easy because grenadiers could annihilate any cover with even starting equipment giving your soldiers easy shots.

LW2 gives a massive boost to cover, making firefights longer and more forgiving, in turn this encourages the use of movement tactics like flanking from multiple angles so you can actually get reasonable hit percentages.

However, this brings the 2nd most glaring flaw of vanilla to light, the pod system. Splitting up your squad and attempting movement based warfare runs a massive risk of activating pods out of your vision, instantly placing you in a losing situation where you have a small part of your squad completely flanked by enemies you can't handle. Because of this risk, firefights in lw2 often become ww1 style stalemates where both sides stare at each each other exchanging low percentage shots, spamming overwatch, and abusing whatever few guarenteed damage options they have. Your squad is forced to stick together and move slowly due to the pod system.

Now, we enter the 3rd most glaring flaw of xcom2, the turn timers. In vanilla, they did make some sense because of the heavy offensive alpha strike meta, it was the best strategy to move forward destroying pods quickly. In lw2, we see this isn't the case, it is very easy to get bogged down in firefights scared to move at the risk of activating other pods. Once you get caught in the stalemate, it is very hard to defeat the turn timer.

This has led to a very bizarre meta of cheesing missions with extremely small squads, attempting to get the objective without entering in combat whatsoever. Obviously this has never been part of xcom, and with good reason, the turn based methodical combat is the entire appeal of the game. The original xcom was known for mass carnage on both sides with entire maps destroyed at the end. For some absurd reason, pavonis sycophants have actually attempted to use lore as an argument to justify this new misplaced design (its "guerilla warfare!"). This is a complete nonstarter as xcom has never been intended as a stealth game, and no one wanted it to be a stealth game. The game systems are completely illsuited to stealth and it usually involves gaming LOS as hard as possible (in the context of xcom2s extremely flawed LOS system, where walls might as well not exist), with a good sprinkle of luck thrown in to not be caught by wandering drones.

In short, LW2 turns out to be an attempt to fix the flaws of vanilla without actually understanding why they were flaws in the first place. For it to be a true "overhaul" mod it needs to go deeper and completely reinvent the gameplay of vanilla instead of just placing a few bandaids.

Hey, Ninja Nub here, I'd like to explain a few things, as to why I suddenly stopped working on all my XCOM 2 shit, and why I never mentioned it to anybody ever again.

Back when I was working on the XCOM 2 stuff, I was doing a few projects, and the modding tools would give me a hard time, but I had a pipeline, so that wasn't the problem, what was the problem was,
my old hard drive, where I saved everything, well, it finally croaked, and that's what made me stop working on shit, it was just, bleh, all that work for nothing.
So I moved on.
Why I didn't go back was simple, I work on and off on things, as I feel like it, sometimes that means something gets delayed for ages, sometimes it means I finish something in a few days.

Honestly, I don't know, I might come back to XCOM 2 shit eventually, but currently I'm just not feeling it, and trying to force shit just does not work.

So, tl;dr, for anybody who was waiting for my stuff, I'm sorry, but it's not coming, as the files simply don't exist anymore, sorry.

Something Iv noticed though LW2 making stealth actually possible ; have you noticed that ayys dont have turning animations when not alerted ? It's especially noticeable in /k/ommandos who look like they do part of their alerted stance before turning

It's great, another layer of disorientation for the enemy if you manage to damage them enough but not kill. Works both ways though, a wounded xcom operative is only really good as a grenade bot.

Sometimes makes extracting soldiers a pain since they can run fuck all with just one pip left, and you can't carry them either. I've lost soldiers because they were too wounded to make it to LZ in time.

There's five parts to the liberation chain

1) Getting the "proper" lead from a Lead mission. By proper I mean that it passes the chance(whatever it is) that it moves you to step two. There is NO indicator that you're on step 2 until...

2) Liberation mission #1 appears. Lead missions still appear, but you're officially on step 2 now. Clear it. It's okay to skip it if you can't make it, they'll reappear. After clearing it...

3) Scan until you get Liberation #2. Same rule as #2. Clear it, and then immediately after clearing...

4) Network tower assault time! A mission with no expiration timer, meaning send your full shit in. It'll likely be tough because at this point Advent Strength in the region is higher than usual. Might want to wait for it to cool down. Completed it?

5) Right after completion the last one immediately appears, again with no expiration. Assault the ADVENT HQ of the region. You can imagine how nice of welcoming party you'll receive on those.

Don't worry if your ranks are getting thin and your supplies are getting low, you'll find missions that'll help like the "4 resistance workers in a prison" one

Also, put one of your starting squaddies in each resistance cell to shoot up the Faceless, if this fucker is around supply collection is literally worse than useless since he'll somehow manage to siphon 75 % of your income

Yes, until you run out of bangs because you couldn't do enough damage to the opposition, and until suppression bugs out, or the bangs are in cooldown.

I always take 2 grenadiers with 3 flashbangs, and I'm still often wanting for more. And I actually go after the enemy, which puts me in a position to do some damage instead of sitting on a rooftop, shaving away the enemy's health one graze at a time.

Of course you do. Everyone does.

But if you're stuck flashbanging, you're stuck not doing damage, and eventully you run out.

Grenades are for stripping tough enemies of armour and guaranteed damage, not destroying cover. The way you kill enemies is to scout ahead to ensure you're not pulling extras, then flank and shotgun them in the face while they're disoriented and unable to respond.

Volume of fire is no way reliable. When the game is built so that your ranger misses the first 82% shot and then grazes for 2 damage on the second, you absolutely want to have those assaults up close with shotguns to ensure that you actually kill the enemy instead of tickling them.

At least on timed missions, you are forced to take risks which is functionally what most real life strategy is about. Specific number of movement tiles matter a lot more. Position relative to enemy pods matter a lot more. You have to plan ahead realistically instead of setting up some super optimal kill plan.

Playing non-timed missions is like playing some team deathmatch game, not a tactical strategy game.

Nah, I'm pretty sure the graze band only takes x% from the top. If you're over 100% in accuracy, you won't graze. At least my assaults never have grazed in the time I've been using them, except if I've had to take a longer shot.

I'm almost at the highest tiers of experience, and I think that some abilities and trees are completely useless.

Anyway, unrevealed pods react to gunfire and explosions. in the Yellow Alert state they either go investigate or rally on/near the objective. If the patrol into you while investigating they can take snap shots if they feel like it.

Has nothing to do with flanking. They always have a chance to take an extra action. The chance is dependent on the difficulty. They're only allowed to shoot if activated on the alien turn, but can overwatch etc if activated on your turn.

For everyone asking if LW 2 is good or not:
I've been playing LW 2 on Legendary for about 20-30 hours, here's my pros and cons:

I like the mod overall. You need to get really picky with your missions and get used to taking risky moves.
Huge change in Vanilla Xcom 2 playstyle, which got really boring when you get to psi OPeratives
New mechanics that allow you to play actually stealthy missions

Bugs like the "stuck at bottom of Avenger" one are really annoying, especially when the game takes 5 mins to restart and load a save.
Itchy trigger tentacle feels like cheating sometimes.
The timers can be super annoying in the early game, when the best you have to work with are 65% GRAZED. Still made it throu tho.
A big bummer for me is not being able to EVAC wherever you want in the VIP rescue missions.

Overall, I like the mod, can't wait for the update that should fix bugged bullshit like invisible cover, hunker down working in open spaces and other weird shit like counting as flanked by turrets when you're behind full cover

P.S.: if you change ANYTHING from vanilla LW 2 (timers, showing enemy stats, "bullshit disguise turns dont count" mod) your a little bitch
