Yeah that does happen, but that doesn't stop them from dominating other fighting games. I don't believe in the west when it comes to fighting games. The work ethic is shit for a lot of players. I don't believe Melee is some weird exception to this. I think Smash 4 will increasingly become more volatile as years go by because that smash 4 community is rather young compared to the more traditional scenes of Japan that has a bunch of legacy players.

Listen, what you guys don't understand is that modern fighting games don't need content. "Content" was necessary in your shitty 15 year old anime games because infrastructure wasn't at the point of consistenly good netplay yet so you needed stuff to keep you busy offline. SFV understands this and therefore ignores the offline and singleplayer aspect of the game in turn for deep and complex gameplay that will you keep you busy for years since you will always have online opponents to play against. Think about it: all games with supposedly good single player content like MKX or GGXrd are completely dead and have barely any players left.
Now you might be saying that even SFV's online is shit because of the netcode (which I have never had problems with btw) but if anything the netcode is a good thing, because it filters out all the people with sub par connections and leaves only those with decent ones to play online, improving the overall experience. Again games with supposedly good netcode like Skullgirls are completely irrelevant and dead.
Overall: stop telling people to play your shitty anime games and just recommend newbies a real fighting game like SFV instead.

Ryu is the most vanilla, but because he has tools and really good damage is "best." Picking up his basics won't be that hard.

Ken plays more to a rushdown style with his newer/updated moves and is OK, but he really doesn't really play like Ryu despite the fact that their specials are mostly the same

Akuma does heaps of damage but he also takes damage like a 12 year old girl. He presented as high risk/high reward but there are other characters that do as much damage without being kneecapped by bad defense. People argue that he is the most fun to play, because who doesn't love Raging Demoning fools?

anything into 2D. some chars you can always get revolver after 2D. if you got a dashing start and didn't do like 5H or 2H in the gatling, you can probably cancel into dp.

corner is pretty simple in theory. any starter that launches (6P, fafnir, bringer, gunflame/YRC gunflame, j.D, dp RC, 2D RC, divekick, throw RC, etc), into a pickup into dustloop, then fafnir, 6P, 5H/2H, j.D, divekick, dp. if the starter was fafnir, then you can do dash j.KD, dj.D, dp.

optimizing is weird and hard as fuck though. also that universal stuff above still needs adjustments (delays) from char to char, mainly lightweight and venom are weird culprits.

oh and if you're a fan of grand viper, if you can confirm something into 2H on the ground, grand viper should combo. good to try to confirm into early in rounds since it does really good corner carry but has a lot of hits, so it'd build bursts back quickly (but both of you have it early in rounds, so it doesn't matter).

during character select hold start button over another character for about 3 seconds before choosing your character, not sure if it works the first fight but every fight afterward that will work

so For Honor is basically a really simple fighting game.

instead of hit/block/throw, you have hit/block/guard break. obviously not as complex in terms of combo strings and setups etc, but fundamentally For Honor plays like a fighting game.

pretty fun imo, i doubt it'll be that big competitively but it's still neat. the only downside is peer-to-peer, but w/e

Litchi isn't as good as she was in CPE, but she's still considered like, B-tier at worst. Makoto is better than before and around as good, if not somewhat better. Still those are some pretty different characters from eachother. You might enjoy Mu-12, Es, or Hibiki. All of them are not extremely hard to grasp, but all of them (particularly Es and Mu-12) have alot of stuff that you can grind out in training mode.

Izanami is a heavy setplay character that has extremely strong corner carry, and a mode which can make most of her things safe in exchange for not being able to block. It's a very odd character overall but she meshes for alot of people because you have a pretty good variation in playstyle with her.

Most of her gameplan involves driving them into the corner, and getting a setup with ribcage which makes you get full-body guardpoint for a period, meaning they're locked out of trying to reversal you on wakeup, meaning in turn you can continue your onslaught of mixups for a pretty long time. There are very few characters that can escape her corner pressure reliably, the only ones are characters like Jin or Celica that have Distortions that let them escape from the corner safely.
