i don't read a lot of fanfiction/comics but i thought the kills of chara was pretty good. look it up if you want, chara isn't 100% evil (not a dindu though) and the ending sucks ass but it's aight.
can't really recommend much else though, charataker is pretty good too (aside from male chara although that's pretty minor) but i'm sure you know about that one already.

Now that i know what happens for the most part, the worst part is, I don't even want to play now. Ugh. I wish I could go back to 2015 and enjoy this when it was new. Flowey is Asriel reborn without a soul, created by Alphys accidentally
Chara is some insane kid that got Asriel killed because he wouldn't kill the humans

As for a favorite, I don't know. I don't really like Chara for sure since he / she only seems bent on making everyone miserable, and Flowey makes people miserable but its because he doesn't have a soul. There's a lot of shit in between the beginning and end that Im sure I've missed, but it seems like it would be in Asriel / Flowey's best interest if he was just put out of his misery.

Also I've been browsing the booru, seems like there's a few sad Gote pics over this very thing. Its very peculiar. When I thought the game was Asriel and Frisk having adventures underground with their goatmom, I wasn't too interested in the game, I thought it was kinda too kiddy for me. And now that I know the actual story, I kinda want them to be a happy family. Heh.
