Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (speccy screenshot), OS, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

Is there a way to create/edit custom rdb files for use with custom playlists in RetroArch? I'd like to get some custom icons set up for playlists containing specific series rather than systems. Not to mention it's mostly translated roms and whatnot so the auto-playlist maker doesn't pick them up.

Kinda wish the playlist stuff was more robust because as it stands it's only really for nointro sets.
>>
News:
The latest retroarch nightly has implemented netplay over most cores, including a netplay browser to find games. All you need is the same game and core as the other player (and maybe some open ports).

Anyone know where I can download a preconfigured frontend like emulationstation setup with all emulators and bios included for Windows PC. All that would have to be done is to add roms? The wiki has nices resources for roms but nothing of this nature.

>>166425978
Well emulationstation is a simple frontend to set up, but you'd still need to do a bit of work yourself.
--

Ok, I was hoping for preconfigured images, something like the configured builds available for Raspberry Pi but with the emulators available for PC like Dolphin.

Okay where can I get the NES ROM

Country: USA

>>

Dolphin has been working on their 64bit JIT since 2004
It took 12+ years of active development for it to catch up to 32bits.

>>166478126
>It took 12+ years of active development for it to catch up to 32bits.
To be quite frank, I don't believe it took them 12+ years to catch up to 32bits. I'm pretty sure the emulator was closed source in 2004 iirc and different people worked on the emulator throughout the years. Even if it did, I don't think that's important because they are amateurs. Only reason I used them as an example is to show that x64 does have good potential for a performance gain.

Dolphin devs still haven't figured out that having a portable shader cache is a good idea. That's something I would have done early on.
>>

>emulating an emulator
This makes me think, how far we can go?
>>
>>166476194
>Gameplay-wise I prefer the wii-u version though
I agree with you on this.
While emulating the Gamecube release with enhanced resolution and textures, in my opinion, looks superior to the Wii U re-release, the Wii U version added quite a lot of improvements to the base game in other areas.

If there was some way to completely remove the weird lighting issues and have it look more like an enhanced Gamecube version, it would be the definitive way to play the game for me.

Of course, since Cemu will never go open source and they're not going to research and add additional features for people unwilling to pay for it, the Gamecube version will always look better.
>>
>>166480078
>Dolphin devs still haven't figured out that having a portable shader cache is a good idea. That's something I would have done early on.

Dolphin was made by ector (hrydgard) and F|RES and they were the only people working on it until it went open source. hrydgard left the project after PPSSPP took off while the other guy was pretty much retired when the release happened. The x64 build was already announced back in 2006 and it ran better: http://ngemu.com/threads/dolphin-x64-dual-core-announced.82697/

Perhaps you're right. I still think it's sad how CEMU implemented portable shader cache first. Dolphin devs still think it's a bad idea for some odd reason. I don't know why anyone would look up to those devs. I wonder if it's because they don't want to "copy" CEMU's idea.
>>
>>166482657
Well I've seen people get issues from borrowed shader cache on CEMU (mostly worse performance) so that may be also another thing they're trying to avoid.

I just had a thought. RA's new netplay - does it work in the PSP core?
I'm assuming not, since it's a one person per console thing, but it could be good if they did get it working, allowing for stuff like MonHun and Dissidia to be played over the net but also potentially side by side on one screen.

How does Evolve work? And why isn't there something seamless?
>>
>>166513957
I havent played in a while so if I can remember you make a group and invite your friends to that group kind of like skype, install the virtual network device and it gives you an IP address

put that IP in PPSSPP and it should work if I can recall

>>166513957
>And why isn't there something seamless?
I'm not sure what you are asking, are you asking why isnt there something that can be utlized without going through this roundabout path?

Well there technically is, you have to use the coldbird.net server which works like modern multiplayer, but does not when connecting directly with other players; for example in monster hunter, you can see other player in lobbies but you can not connect with each other when the quest starts or in Tekken, you can see matches but the match will not start

Now, you can get away with this by changing something in your router settings and I cant remember what it is, but apparently it could be a potential point for security risks or something
>>
>>166514473
specifically this URL for the coldbird servers

https://pro.coldbird.net/status/status.xml
>>
>>166514473
The thing you have to change is DMZ which is like spreading your asscheecks, and that's why I asked why there isn't anything seamless, as coldbird clearly isn't. If it were it wouldn't be dead as fuck other than the N*ruto/Dr*gonball shit.

The combat never evolves. Your AI companions are awful and hinder more than help in a fight by using up all their MP skills as soon as possible, meaning you have to expend MP heal items on them so they can use spells again.
When your monsters evolve, they're weaker than their base version until you've leveled them up about 10 times.
All the sidequests are boring stuff like "catch a thing, random chance of it actually being caught" or "deliver this item" or "kill 10 of" or just fetchquests.
The story is OK but it's very stop and start due to the grind and shit inbetween and it becomes a bit crap after the first half of the game.

I really wanted it to be good, but I didn't stick around for post-game. It has some great moments and I'll always remember it for them, but mostly because my friend and I played it together and now have tons of in-jokes about it.

I wish it was a film. I do not think I want to purchase the 2nd game.

You'll need to dip your hands in all the three available to find whats best for you and the game you are playing
In general you'll be fine with Desmume but it is absurdly hardware intensive for how inaccurate it is. Also the mainline has fucking trash UI customization for some reason
Your next best thing would be No$gba which trades off accuracy for performance. Its also your only choice if you want to emulate DSi games.
Then there is Drastic which you'll have to play using >>166567792
Its actually less hardware intensive than Desmume especially for high resolution rendering and even has less glitches than it in some titles that I tested. The only problem with it that I encountered was audio crackling which requires fiddling with the latency settings.

Woah what happened with Cemu.

I used to get at least 30 fps on smash now im stuck on 6fps
>>
>>166594543
Never again.
PCSX2 used to have those but dropped it because "it's too complex to maintain two versions".
So, instead of focusing on the more future proof version, they decided to use the other.
Which, to be fair, isn't such a bad decision if you want a large userbase. Because x86_64 is able to perform x86 ASM but also people with older rigs who only have a x86 CPU can play their favourite PS2 games.

>>166594962

You fuckers know the only reason Dolphin is as good as it is, is because full documentation on the Gamecube was leaked right? Nobody talks about it because it's illegal as shit.

Not just that, Dolphin was hot fucking garbage for a long time. Inaccurate, hacky shit. They had the same problem as pcsx2. At the end of the day comparing gamecube emulation to ps2 emulation is an apples to oranges comparison anyway; the gamecube is way simpler than the ps2 and more importantly there isn't any in depth documentation on the ps2 to make reverse engineering easier.

I download full ROMsets on principle. They disappear too readily and too often to do otherwise.

It's a pain in the ass to safely source this shit. I'd rather do it as few times as possible, even if it means wasting storage space (which is currently at an all-time low $/GB price anyway, so even that's not a compelling argument).

how bad is pcsx2? like... i keep reading how its just shit, but i gather most, if not all, mainstream/essential games of ps2 are finishable from start to finish, right? so whats the problem, do you need change a lot of settings in order to get the games running, or are there a lot of bugs like missing textures and similar?

like, i know its far from being dolphin, but then i look at videos of pcsx2 on youtube and it doesnt seem like its that far off, so are the complains more about closeness to the system? because sure that must be far off, but if you just wanna play the game... hell, if you are a "casual" dude, it seems like one wont notice much wrong with it.

Emulation purists swear on Mednafen, but I have never even once read a conclusive reason as to why it requires cue-sheets. I know that in theory a cue sheet will tell the emulator where the game track and where the sound track on a disc-image is, but none of the other emulators require these to play sound & game.

Why is Vulkan mode so broken in Retroarch?
The new backgrounds don't render, loading games from the menu crashes, some emulators like Dreamcast and GLupN64 don't boot at all.

May as well mention that for settings I followed the guide on http://imgur.com/4pA439D

Though I can remember when I played the first one a workaround was required to set the internal resolution to be equal to my desktop resolution rather than 4x native, but it didn't seem to fix the blur problem so I left it at 4x native for now.

It's just the game. PS2 devs fucking loved that shit. Fixing design decisions isn't in the intended feature list of most emulators, but good on you if you find something that improves it. It'll never be perfect because the game was intended to be a different way from how you want it.

No, software mode isn't nearly as blurred like that, and matches up a lot more closely with the version with the blur being hacked out.

Maybe some extent of blur was intended, but it's clearly being exaggerated far beyond what they wanted when you scale the internal resolution up.

Can someone recommend me a settling/colonization game where warfare is either nonexistent or plays a minimal role?

To explain: my favorite part of Civ is exploring, finding resources and expanding the empire trough building new settlements. Once contact is made and conflict over space starts, it almost turns into another game. Even if you keep the peace, it's still no longer about expansion but only about improving what you have.

It doesn't even have to be about settling/colonization per se as long as exploration and location of resources coupled with improvement of assets is a core theme.

Playing through DMC2 for the sake of it.
Its really not that good. The combat is simplified and the enemies are all braindead with no challenge. There are elevator sections in the game where you can kill stuff so quickly with no effort that you have to wait for half the time doing nothing. The bosses so far are a fucking joke and you can kill them all with just your starting pistols(which you can no longer charge). There is no weapon variety as the different swords share the same moveset. The game actually managed to have more camera issues than DMC1 despite literally no excuse for them.

I was expecting a pleasant surprise like Nanobreaker but I got a steaming pile of shit whose only saving grace is that its 4 hours long.

Kamiya had no involvement in it. It was a quick cash grab by Capcom. It was made by Itsuno. Kamiya didn't even hear about it until it was started development. They didn't even ask him or his team input or anything.

>>166735647
I'm not sure if you're memeing or not but Kamiya and his team didn't make DMC2.
Hell, Hideaki Itsuno is listed as the director, but he didn't even direct it. An unnamed literally who directed it until like 3/4 through development at which point Capcom looked at it and said "oh fuck this is garbage" and called Itsuno in to fix as much as he could, then slapped his name on it.

How did Bleem manage to work so well on a Dreamcast? PSX emulation still needs a fairly good PC to be accurate these days.
Was it because Bleem concentrated on emulating single games - therefore it was a very hacky method?
>>
>>166740952
Bleem for dreamcast was single game optimized in the same way N64 VC on Wii is, the PC version which was more compatible had higher reqs.
Every single compatibility improvement in PSX emulation came with much higher reqs, emurayden for example had higher compatibility but needed a pentium 2 to comfortably play games, ePSXe 1.6 which had much much higher compatibility would sometimes struggle on a 1Ghz P3
>>
>>166742935
That's what I thought.
I've often wondered if the solution to Xbox emulation would be to do something similar and emulate specific games, since there's only a handful of worthwhile titles for the system that weren't multiplat.
