>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy,Cookie Clicker, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

I mean, the recent hype had been quite nice, but that it happened is more surprising than it disappearing. We didn't really have much Underrail discussion from something like mid-February until, what was it, November? Whenever the expansion comes the hype is likely to return though.

>>166226651
Nah, I don't think so. The new patch didn't change much, just a couple of bugfixes.

Although those grayed out skill checks if you don't meet the requirement, I think those are new. Unless they've been always there and I've suffered some kind of memory loss.

Anyone else really disappointed by the last Knytt game? It looked like an early 2000's flash game.

Are pixel graphics unpopular with modern gamers to the point where this was a better choice?
>>
>>166227641
I love Knytt Underground. I consider it his best work combining all the strenghts.
The style is from an experimental phase of western indies and he keept that for this work too. It's obvious of course that he is way better at enviroments than humans.

Loved it, best in the series imo (although Knytt Stories is a different beast what with the level editor). I liked the art, it reminded me of old claymation and European cartoons. The gawkiness of the characters suits the humanistic theme of the story, they're not supposed to look ostentatiously cool or beautiful.

I did generally prefer the outdoors settings to the underground one though.
>>
>>166229027
There is a clear difference bewteen the first 2 chapters, which are pretty much tutorials to both the mechanics and characters, and the 3rd chapter which is the actual open world game. Exploring the world was a pure joy to me.
>>
>>166229221
>secrets

kek, even joking about this is giving me too much credit.

So okay, two-headed mutants.
If it really is mechanics-related, then I suppose searching locations is pointless, this is something else. Which is good, because I've trudged through every single fucking map like thrice in the past month. Which I guess can mean two things, I'm either blind as a Deep Worm, or the reason why they are in none of these places is because they are in all of these places. All of the places where mutants can be found, at least.

But what mechanics? Combat mechanics? Stealth mechanics? Spawn mechanics? Is this like a Resident Evil Remake situation where you have to kill mutants in a specific way to unleash the horror? Like what, crit them so hard you split their head in two? Nah, but I've critted mutants plenty of times since the patch came out, so probably not. Unless it's random chance, and it's really fucking low. Or it's something more specific, like only possible with specific weapon-types. Dear Tchort, and now I'm actually considering picking up a cleaver and hacking at mutants like I channeled Evelyn's spirit.

However, none of these would require anyone to
>understand the mechanics
because in this case there would be literally nothing to understand. It'd either happen to you or not. And anyway, if it was this simple, someone should have encountered it already. So I'm most likely still on the wrong track.

epeli, I beg you, if the time comes put me out of my misery and put it on the wiki. I don't care how simple the solution is, I don't want to suffer the disgrace of having to find it out from a Codex thread. Anything, but that.

each picture represents a number and you're supposed to figure out which is which (0-9)
I assumed it means the top half is adding each picture but that doesn't really work so I'm not sure what they mean either
>>
>>166235064
What exactly do you do in this puzzle? That is, which one is your input? Do you need to write a number in those yellow circles, or click the icons above them in a specific order, that kind of thing.
>>
>>166235570
the bottom half is the input

each 0 can be clicked to make a number from 0-9

Has anyone tried running RPG Maker games or Wolf RPG Editor games on Linux? I'm having some problems, not sure if there's anyone here experienced...
>>
>>166237981
You start from the simple fact that each icon represents a number between 0 and 9. Technically this leaves you with two solutions, so the actual assumption I went with is that each number must be at least 1.Which means the highest you can get by adding two is 18.

So we have two easy ones
>E+F is either 1 or 11
and
>A+B is either 15 or 14+1

If we assume it is the latter, and A+B is 14+1, then that means B+C must be 18+1 (since 18 is the highest we can get if both B and C are 9), D+E are 18 or 17+1. If this is true, then E+F can only be 11. In which case neither E nor F can be smaller than 2 and also D+B must be 13+1. However if B is 9, then in this case D has to be 3, and then D+E=18/17+1 can't be true.

Hence A+B can't be 14+1, only 15. So that means B+C is 9, and D+E is 7+1. That means B is 8, because if it was 7 or 6, then D would have to be at least 6, but that would make E 1 which doesn't work.

So working from backwards
2+9=11 > 1 (and 1 carries over)
D(5)+8+1=14 > 4 (1 carries over)
5+2+1=8
8+1=9
7+8= 15

However if we assumed 0 was also an option, then
A=6
B=9
C=0
D=4
E=3
F=8
would also be possible.

I hope I didn't fuck this up, it's getting pretty late here.
>>
>>166239694
Do you use wine? RPGmaker, at least earlier versions could be supported. I think wolf rpg is too obscure.
>>
>>166236746
How the fuck does that work

If the shield is 7 and the mace is 8, how do they make a 5?
>>
>>166240102
it's confusing because you didn't order A-F by the bottom half but I understand
but if you're supposed to go backwards then that makes me angry
there's no walkthroughs online and the only thing close to it is some guy saying the puzzles were easy and the game sucked
>>
>>166240997
They make a 15, not a 5. See >>166240102.
Also, I forgot to mention the part where B being at least 6 eliminates the possibility of E+F being 1, leaving only C as a candidate for 0 if 0 is an option and confirming that E and F must be at least 2 in both versions. But this should be obvious anyway.

Sorry, I named them in a top to bottom left to right order since I don't even know what the fuck the icon of C is supposed to represent. It isn't really that you have to work from backwards, you need to work in both directions to narrow down the options. And in the end it's just a simple addition. I don't know much about common core math, but I guess this puzzle is a big FUCK YOU to those who only know that.

Not necessarily, we don't know how much of them is organic. And Ezra could read Tanner's mind, so he at least has a brain. As for where(/when) they came from, who even fucking knows. Maybe they've been around from since before the apocalypse. Or they just traveled back from the future. Or they travel around in time so much the question is meaningless. Who knows.

Then if they shook off their chains and cast everyone in, how did Ezra, or anyone escape?
It's not plausible that they could have just up and overrun hollow earth. The mails mentioned soldier reinforcements, so there was security on-site. Even if they were more numerous, they couldn't possibly have had access to the necessary gear to swiftly take over the complex. Not to mention, once they do, so what? Where did their technology come from? Biocorp? You're telling me biocorp had an army worth of gear stashed in the closet alongside a hundrer something tunnelers? Then how come we can't find ANY abandonned faceless gear/prototype of gear even in the locked, secure facilities still manned by robots? It doesn't add up.

But he has to know that you'd go through a LOT of dirty laundry killing tchort. Hell, you can bring back the whole mutagen set minus eximus-2 + the scavended D5 you find in lower underrail, and even if he doesn't deduce it, the motherfucker is still capable enough to just pluck the information off your brain as demonstrated by his reading Tanner's mind.

But since he HASN'T wiped all those off your pretty little skull, surely he could answer some questions after this little bonding in Tanner's room, right?

>>
>>166250129
Not only that, he for example accepted the commission to make a pretty nice pair of decorated tracking necklaces for Arlene and her husband, and he refuses to fix the dead husband's necklace if you find it, since it would be a pretty dick move to have it suddenly activate so Arlene's would pick up the signal.

When you go to him asking for help with the Beast, he could have easily refused to help you. He wouldn't even have to laugh maniacally and tell you it would be more interesting to study how much havoc such an advanced psimorph could wreck, he could just simply tell you he has no idea how to kill it. But nope, Ezra just simply helps you kill it, just like that. For free.

He also tries to act like a pleasant guy when you talk with him. He fucking compliments you the next time you meet him if you help Harold with the battery issue.

When you confront him about Wyatt, he could just go
>Yes, you got me. Now I rape your mind.
But instead he just denies everything and that's it. No warnings, no threats, he just dismisses you.

Even in Deep Caverns he dindu nuffin. Sort of. His worst sin there we know about is trying his best to convince his fellow technocrat with a god complex to not go gently into that good night. How terribly evil of him.

So in general, when he is not mass-experimenting on unwilling test subjects, he a good boy.

No idea, he seems pretty content with spending his immortal days writing mundane software for SGS. But sure, possible. After all the Junkyard experiment DID create a disease resistant immortal who doesn't need to sleep, and it wasn't even just a random guy, but the guy they gave the mutagen to.

Technically there is a chance someone on codex might stumble upon it. After all, they do complain that the game is too easy. But they won't understand the exact conditions that easily. I will spoil nothing! All will be revealed in time.

>And where is pic related from?
Oh, that's from the Beast quest, but it was only added by the experimental patch. First line is his answer to "Hey Ezra, it's mighty suspect that you know so much about psimorphs, say, does "Biocorp" ring some bells?".

The second line is even easier to miss, but if you have previously asked him about Junkyard, when he shrugs off your psimorph question you can push the issue with "First Junkyard and now this. Have you noticed that you always have an answer to everything, except when I ask about your past?"

But you don't write something this fucking meta by pure coincidence.

>except he has the common human decency of not bisecting you where you stand if you disagree
To be fair he was in a really fucking shitty mood when you met him. "I will slice any fucker in two who doesn't know his place, fuck, be grateful, I should just fucking slice everyone in two" levels of shit mood. Maybe I should introduce Six to a mutant. He only somewhat calmed down by the time he got to Deep Caverns. Sure he is still an arrogant cunt, but not as trigger happy. Just annoying.

>Watch your tone, little man.
Christ, Six, you are not my mother. But you get like a dozen different opportunities to tell him to fuck off, so it's all good.

Fair enough. I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to learn this from someone else, but in that case I can only hope that person will be from here. Or anywhere, but the Codex.

They are not hostile to you when they come to ask for the Cube. But if you refuse and kill them Six will scold you, give you some mild electro-shock, and take it from you in the elevator. But he will not harm your chosen one ass in any way.

I could believe that, but only because it's not impossible Ezra actually just worked under Matveev and was an test subject for his boss' self-enhancements before they were perfected and put into practice.

That would explain why the doppelganger (he actually is similar to his old boss but he wasn't in on Depot A), and the fact he's got chump health and a shit shield. The only thing left is the mind control tutoring being impossible to shake off, but that can just be a vestige of early development that wasn't scrapped because it's cool.

>kill them
>kill THEM
>KILL the literal invasion army that raped the rassopores or whatever their name a new asshole in the ten minutes following them tunneling in

I refuse to believe you can do that in a stand up fight without cheating. Just at a glance, there was the commander, a couple doctors, several quadrupeds, augmented rathounds, a dozen or more footsoldiers, plus the gaunts, and you have no meatshields. Nothing short of gassing the entire complex with biocide or Exitus-1 would justify your fighting them off on your own, let alone kill them.

It's not that hard actually, they can't aim for shit. The downside to this is that casting Enrage on them is also pretty pointless, since they can't aim for shit even when shooting at each other. I also like how Azif is all "I've been watching you huehue" in his recruitment speech, but later he admits that it was a complete accident that you happened to be at the right place at the right time when you went to the embassy that made them take notice of you. Remember the layout of DC, it's a combination of several caverns. The labs in the middle are in one big cavern, the warehouses were built in one long cavern, Talos outpost is its own separate cavern, and so is Caerus. Notice how close the building (and the ventilation shaft) is to the cavern wall. Parts of the cave collapsed, and you can see rocks in the shaft itself. So clearly when it collapsed it opened up a small cavern inside the wall. As for the water, Celeritas runs close to Caerus. The water might have seeped in from above through cracks.

In fact if you look at the cave, it is clear that there wasn't always a cave there, back in Hollow Earth's glory days the motorway connected Caerus and the Southern elevator (and also potentially Tartarus, or wherever that collapsed cavern should lead). An earthquake must have brought in all that water, probably from above, flooding the cave. Which explains why there is water in the walls of nearby caverns. Another nice detail is that this road was on the southernmost border of HE, you can see it very nicely on the Caerus map how well-fortified the southern exit is compared to the northern one which just leads deeper into the complex. Which supports the collapsed cavern being Tartarus, since it would be in a relatively remote but still quickly accessible place if you use vehicles, and also close to the BCAF S-8 elevator.

I still say the south elevator is the most likely candidate, simply because it's a proper cavern entrance with motorway going in, and there isn't any other obvious entrance like it anywhere else, nor is there really any space for it elsewhere. But on the other hand it could also be the BCAF Detachment Hollow Earth. Or maybe that gate leads to both. That doesn't sound impossible.

So a few more things I've been trying to figure out.

The tunnel connecting Cytosine and the Mutagen Tanks. Why does it exist? It is clear that the Tanks were considered an extremely high risk sector of DC, considering the only way in by car is through the most complex gate in the entire place. And you have to go through two of them if you want into B. So the security measures there must had been incredibly strict. So why the shortcut? Granted it's only for pedestrian use, but still a vulnerability. Why is it so important to give the University a back door into there?

And the toxic waste/Hanging Rat elevator map, it just confuses me. It seems to be part of the same cavern as the research complex, but what exactly am I looking at? Is it inside a building, or outside? At first glance from the outside it looks like you are entering a building. Windows on the wall on the south entrance, and windows on the west wall. But near the elevator there is natural rock wall and no sign of ruins of artificial walls. Meanwhile it seems the entirety of the research complex is surrounded by a single wall. So are the windows we see the windows of the complex, with the elevator being "outside"? Is the complex inside one enormous building, or just surrounded by a wall? But then what are the windows to the west? If that's a building we are looking at then it is outside the main wall.
>>
>>166306706
Looks like the hanging rat elevator map is outdoors. It's a part of the gigantic hollow earth cave. There's just some unspecified building on the west wall and Tithonus Lab on the east.

The tunnel between Cytosine and Mutagen Tanks A doesn't even line up perfectly on the map, there's probably a security checkpoint in there that we don't get to see in the game.

Other random things I've noticed.
- Warehouse Block 2 and the checkpoint south of them have a gap inbetween. Was that Warehouse Block 1?
- Most of the big caves seem natural shaped. Only Caerus is clearly excavated.
- There are security checkpoints in each direction from Caerus, except north.
>>
>>166307674
Yeah, probably true. Too bad that unspecified building is making it pretty hard to figure out the cave's exact shape. We have no way of telling how big that one is supposed to be.

Deep Caverns is a really interesting location. It is the only city that is spread through several caves connected by tunnels. Core City is one cave, Junkyard is one, albeit sprawling and segmented cave, Foundry and Hathor are both in a pretty straightforward single cave. SGS I'm not sure is in a cave at all, I imagine it's something more like Epione Lab, a station they built by excavation.

>the tunnels you came through actually line up with the Cytosine elevator

Sweeeet.

>The tunnel between Cytosine and Mutagen Tanks A doesn't even line up perfectly on the map
Yeah, that was the biggest problem I couldn't solve when making my map. What you originally did, moving Cytosine farther back was a good solution, but I guess it doesn't work once you add in the cave tunnels. Shame. Funny because that tunnel looks more like it should be connected to the private train station, which in turn does have a security checkpoint and solves the layout inconsistencies. But it isn't, so yeah.

>Warehouse Block 2 and the checkpoint south of them have a gap inbetween. Was that Warehouse Block 1?
Could be. Although when looking at gaps like these I usually assume it's just a longer tunnel between two caverns instead of a skipped location.

Isn't Warehouse block 1 the south warehouse map, and block 2 the one north?

Nice catch about Caerus. It's interesting, because it seems like it's meant to be a well-defended to guarantee a living block where it's not unpleasant to live, but it's also a crossroad connecting two hostile and two safe locations. Why not put it into a cave like Cytosine's, with only one entrance? Unless the primary goal was to put it in a place from where all key workplaces can be reached relatively fast. The warehouses, the mushroom forest, the research complex and possibly the prison. Only the Power Station and the Tanks take longer to reach. And the Tanks have shitloads of parking slots so the distance was accounted for.

I'm leaning towards >>166302404, Tartarus prison and HE detachment are probably beyond the collapsed tunnel. It would make sense that the detachment is close to SGS, it's an old BCAF military base. Both military base and prison being isolated from civilians also makes perfect sense.

But where is the faceless city? They entered it through Mutagen Tanks B.
>>
>>166317617
>They entered it through Mutagen Tanks B
They didn't, they left with their Tunnelers. That group must have had some other business inside. I want to say they wanted to collect some Tchort samples to study, but since it seems untouched if you check back later, maybe they just wanted to piss on its corpse.

Apparently their city is close to DC, and you can reach it by following the largest of their tunnels. Where is that tunnel? Yeah.

>>166319931
Yep, it's a strange one. There is a hole in the ground, but it's not large enough. The Beast came from there, most likely. But those corpses had to get there somehow.

The Foundry party is the smallest Faceless party in the game, although not by much:

Rail Crossing:
>1 Mindreader
>3 Faceless
>2 sentry bots

Core City:
>1 Centaur
>1 Doctor
>2 Faceless
>1 rathound

West Wing:
>1 Mindreader
>1 Centaur
>1 Doctor
>2-3 Faceless

Foundry:
>1 Centaur
>1 Doctor
>1 Faceless
>1 rathound

In the lair there are 3 regular Faceless corpses. I can imagine a scenario where they tried to enter Foundry through the mine, got BTFO'd by the Beast, then the survivors fled and settled for that cave outside the city, but still the hole is too small. They might leave the corpses behind if trying to recover them would hinder their quest to find the Cube, but they still had to enter the cave somewhere for this theory to work.

>>
>>166327032
Of fucking course we are missing something. Nothing is ever this simple. Not in this game. I just wanted to get the Occam's razor option out of the way.

The problem is that I can't see anything out of the ordinary. We have the Foundry guards, we know where those came from. We have the Beast. We have the dead Faceless. And we have a mid-size, very square hole on the floor. Everything else is intact.

But i have no idea what is going on.
>>
>>166327032
Well, I mean, I'd love a huge ass picture-based map

Or is that impossible due to how structures interconnect?
>>
>>166330027
It would be at least very hard, due to how many levels this game has. Even keeping track of all the stairs and ladders is pretty hard. And the interiors and exteriors don't mesh together too well, the scale rarely matches. Actually, the scale of the different levels often don't match either.
>>
>>166325751
>tfw people don't die when they're killed
>>
>>166329169
Yeah, that's the problem. It kinda fits together but not perfectly.

Did the faceless accidentally tunnel into the mines? Did the psimorphs follow them? And then immediately kill three faceless and force the rest to flee, leaving their dead behind? Sounds unlikely.

>>166327332
The jpg is already decent quality and I don't have higher resolution.

>>166330027
Totally impossible in flat 2D picture, you would need a 3D presentation. Can't even fit full DC map in one picture.
>>
>>166330468
>>166330559
Dang. Well.

It would be neat if simplistic maps slapped in landmarks or sloppy layouts.

>>
>>166330738
It would be possible to make a bunch of major "outdoor" level maps like Deep Caverns or Upper Underrail.

But any indoor/multi-level areas won't fit. Take a look at the DC map I posted. Caerus for example. There's around 6 indoor screens right there alone.
>>

Well, the strangest element is the hole. It is a very strange hole. Used to look different, but even then it was strange. And I still say it's too small to be a Tunneler hole. Have we seen a hole like this anywhere else? I don't think we have, but that doesn't mean shit.

The Enigma of Foundry Fault by Styg Itou. DRR... DRR... DRR...

ROM is immortal. I can restore her, and then update her. Better. Faster. Smarter. Deadlier.

Well that was something. Heh. Watching handegg, reading strange mango, and discussing Underrail mysteries. What a night.

Ezra is not a sociopath!
>>
>>166335089
He is absolutely a sociopath. And a pretty nice guy.
>>

>>166335089
Sociopaths tend to be nice guys. Well, endearing.

Until they completely fuck you over when they make use of you like a completely expendable object.

>Do you know something I don't?
This should be the title of the game.

>NPCS DON'T SPILL THEIR LIFE STORY OR BUY JUNK WHEN ASKED
>PLAYER CHARACTER BAFFLED
>It's just not done! -Al fabet

>implying you aren't expendable as shit
Literally the handyman for half of underrail.
>>
>>166336401
lol indeed
>>
>>166336024
Yeah, but people don't find Ezra endearing, they find him creepy as fuck and about as subtle about being a sociopath as a Lurker. It just happens that despite being as frigid as a corpse with creepy wires coming out of his empty eye socket, he is kind of a cool guy. He helps you and usually answers your questions. This already makes him better than like 98% of the NPCs who can help you.

Which is what makes it so shocking that Azif actually spills. And how.
>>
>>166336961
That's because azif isn't spilling anything but fumes. The black eyes and "lore" are just side effects of living on the hanging rat's shroom brew.
>>
Ezra is cute
>>
>>166337507
The advantage of black eyes is that no one can tell if you are high as a kite. I bet he knows what it's like to Mainframe on SSDMT-7.
>>
>>166338020
>SSDMT-7
Considering all the detail they've put into other chemicals and hard sciences, what *is* SSDMT-7?

Obviously a psychedelic drug loosely based on DMT, but does the abbrevition make any sense?
>>
>>166338378
DMT mixed with shredded q7 Super Steel, duh.

I don't have the slightest idea. Although I have a friend whose field is anabolic steroids, so if the abbreviation makes any sense he can probably tell. But I think it's more likely that whatever it stands for it's specific to Underrail.

>tfw no qt sociopathic psychic boyfriend

Super Secret DMT
>>
>>166344050
Is this the true face of Underrail?

Desperate page 10 bumps? No, that's more of an /indie/ thing.
