You absolutely can. Once you survey a black whole, just have your science ship fly back and forth between it and the nearest system.

And now, this fortress belongs to me now.

They really need to fix the 'bash up their vassal/puppet state to take the overlord's stuff' part of the war mechanic, because that was what I did to take everything the Bastion of Ikaanan had without fighting them directly.

I even get to take over as the overlord of the former FE's puppet state, the Ikaanan Enclave, for free.

>>

This thing was added in by a mod I believe which at some stage spawns three anomalies that go into the situation list, and this one is pretty damn powerful. In terms of technology I'm pretty much up to the top of 'vanilla' technology, using Egnimatic stuff. But looking at how my ships went pop, it seems to ignore shields completely and ignores most if not all of armour as well.

And so indeed, without mods that give you stronger modules and better ships, I'm not sure how you're supposed to deal with this thing (if at all). My fleet dealt at least 100k kinetic damage to it by the time they all died, but I never saw its shields dip down a tiny tick at all. It really deserves the 'skull' level strength.

I'm playing synth empire and uga bungas from primitive reservation asked to join my empire... sure why not .. problem now is that they're a problem. Should I birth control them until I had over -30% ethic divergence? That is my energy planet so I have no reason to enslave them.

Talking about how to roleplay ancaps.

So no stealing 75% of their stuff.

Why didn't you make that into a research world?
That's what stone age primitives are for.
The powerful adjacent society research bonuses from reservations.
>>
>>166181961
It's a world rich in energy tiles and has 20% energy bonus, fuck research.

I have a mod that makes homeworlds into special genesis worlds which gives 30% research bonus so I'm going to purge some primitives or steal one from another empire and make it my research center.

It's not that big of a bonus compared to the insane society bonus you get from stone age primitives.
>>
>>166182135
Well I picked the option which doesn't generate tiles with society bonus anyway.

And how doesn't it compare ?

30% bonus + 20% synth bonus + 5% materialist bonus that's 55% bonus society on a planet that researches all techs equally.

That's your homeworlds research vs the potential research.
And I'm not sure it would compare there either because of existing percentage on a higher base yield.

What you should be comparing is the research potential of a stone age primitive world and the energy potential of that same world.

I've just researched an edict that gives robots 20% resources bonus now the whole planet produces energy on top of that it has the planet 20% bonus + lots of tiles with high energy value, I see nothing wrong here.

Probably eventually I'll research the planetary edict for even more energy.
>>
>>166183029
Rush to crush their fleets, then split your fleets equally and break down their fortifications on all planets.

You can from there use you single 9 - 12 army or preferably have at least 3 assault armies with again at least 9 or 12 units.

This is how you win wars fast and efficiently.

You'll see the warscore approach 100% in no time.

You should also mod the game the lower the 10 years truce to 5 years, because it's an artificial nonsensical game setting to make the game artificially longer.

You can edit the lua defines and just change a number for the same result.

Installation folder\common\defines\00_defines.lua

search for TRUCE_YEARS and change the value from 10 to 3 or 5 depending on how you like it, I have it do 3.

If you want to make it feel balanced start with 5 then late game lower it to 3, or play with 3 all along.
>>
>>166183329
>I've just researched an edict that gives robots 20% resources bonus

Could've you have used it on another world dedicated to energy?

Yes. Can't quite remember how fast fleet sizes grew in ES1, but currently but currently it can go to something like 24+ CP. You can control which in-battle flotilla each ship goes into, but 1 always has to be in the middle.

production values and shitty non-turn based combat
CONS
no government types
shittier more streamlined tech tree
shittier tactical combat
shittier ship designer
no freighters, so you cant export/import food between systems
star lanes, generally shitty map generation

PROS
good graphics, its actually quite pretty
can convert all planet types even toxic
can build mining and research outposts
decent AI, and decent diplomacy

generally its updated moo2 thats slightly more casual
>>
>>166207575

For me I see no reason to play nuMOO over Stellaris. Stellaris offers so much more, such as the narrative. The only reason I'd play nuMOO is for the graphics, and that gets old after awhile.

It's one reason I haven't even tried to play Stars in Shadow, because I'm willing to bet it's an inferior version of nuMOO which in turn is worse than Stellaris.

I remember Polaris Sector was pretty good from what little I played. I kinda want to check out Stellar Monarch, but am playing other things atm.
>>
>>166207890
Imperium Galactica 2 is a bit flawed, never finished a game. Only 7$ so might be worth it.

What I would recommend:
Star Control 2 is only 1.50$. Not a 4x though.

I'm a fan of Fallen Enchantress (ultimate edition) and Sorcerer King (rivals) since they're rpg+4x but you would probably be better to get endless legend and all the DLC on steam.

I love Offworld Trading company but GOG doesn't seem to be selling the DLC.

Finally. Finished the Cybrex storyline.

So why did they stop their robot revolution?

The sapient organic preserve on one of their worlds implies they studied organics, there's the cybernetics experiment station where they tried to merge organics with robotics. They had second thoughts about wiping out all non-robot life?

The only other precursor storyline I've managed to finish is the ones who realized they were in a videogame and blew themselves up. Never managed to finish the plague (I figure they were infected by a neighboring empire) or see all of the first league (social decay?) ones. Or the one where it's giant centipedes with no FTL that meet a small empire which does (I'm guessing they were wiped out by the FTL empire?)

Yeah, pretty much that.
>no governments
The remaster could have actually made the 4 government tupes do something more than "+% to morale or a yeld", and they scrapped the idea entirely, fucking fags.
>Shittier tech tree
It's not shitty, but it's literally civ-tier tech tree, the 8 fields of research were way more interesting.
>shittier tactical combat
Goddamn this. They are entertaining to watch, and still involve good ship-building, but it can't compare to turn-based in my opinion.
>shittier ship designer
Bullshit. It's almost the same as MOO2 and a bit more intuitive, but the whole space limit, miniaturization and ship components are the same.
>no freighters
It sucks that you can't do it from the beginning, but there are structures that allow interplanetary food and production relocation. Also civilian transports are way better than magically teleporting citizens between planets
>star lanes/shitty map gen
Star lanes is up to preference (and you do unlock "jump portals", aka wormholes later on), map gen is actually quite good, and exploration feels rewarding even without Stellaris-like events, sign of a good map gen.

Nothing to say about the Pros, AI and diplomacy are good, and it is fucking gorgeous (magistral graphics and voice acting)

All in all i'd say it's MOO2 updated for today's standards, better in everything than MOO2 except combat and, arguably, tech tree.

Talking about the AI, they kicked my fucking ass at Extreme, and it wasn't because of their insane advantages. The Terran Khanate literally surrounded my two systems with military outpost, knowing well that if i declared war i would have only made my death swifter.
Once he locked me out of the universe, he refused to trade with me (unless i gave insane shit for very little return) and once he was even more ahead of me he raped my ass and bombed my 3 planets to oblivion, even gifting one to his robotic buttbuddy.

I'll try another game, hoping to meet more peaceful trade partners.

It's on the Workshop. I'm not sure the author uploaded it to Skymods.

One of the things I don't like is that every interstellar travel seems to take a minimum of 2000 days and then the game adds a few days to it depending on the distance.

I got greedy during the nomads event. You can buy 15 late midgame tech cruisers for 3000 minerals and 1000 energy and they deliver 15 cruisers in a month.

I got a second (encrypted) transmission saying that for just 1000 credits they'll give me the batch of cruisers they were selling to an other empire too.

In the end I got no ships and the nomads left with my money and minerals. If you get this event don't be greedy.

Is Military Dictatorship better for making money than Plutocratic Autocracy?

Hear me out.

Assuming Fanatic Materialist for both, which gives a -15% building cost...

Plutocratic Oligarchy/Megacorporation reduces the cost of Mining Stations by 25-50%.

Military Dictatorship/Martial Empire reduces the cost of all ships (including orbital structures) by 10-20%.

So, it might not be immediately noticeable, but Military Dictatorship gives a smaller, but wider bonus overall, and might make your empire more cost-efficient than Plutocratic Oligarchy.

I've just done a quick check.

With Plutocratic Oligarchy, you spend 67 to build a Mining Station, 90 to build a Research Station.

With Military Dictatorship, you're spending 81 on both. Where this one shines, though, is in the reduced maintenance cost, which is based on the initial production cost. Your ships are less expensive, so you might be saving more overall.

Wait, what? I never built those corvette/destroyer/cruiser/battleship yards because it seemed like a waste of money and just had every planet with a spaceport build them but a -10% to maint cost is a pretty big deal.
>>
>>166248543

Wasn't part of the pre-ftl mod that the technology only becomes available after 7 physics researches (so that no civilization just immediately starts out with researching an ftl)? And since most research lasts a few years, I would expect it to take at least 20 or so years before you can even get it.
>>
>>166262868
Right now it's probably Individualist/Fanatic Materialist/Plutocratic Oligarchy.

If you're playing for Horizon Signal, pick the traits Repugnant, Sedentary, Industrious, & Thrifty to maximize your tile yields.

Individualist will get you the Galactic Stock Exchange, and Materialist will get you the Research Institute.

You might have some trouble with factions.

Banks is shaping up to fix the 'Sector slavery' problem with their Caste System option, so Collectivist/Fanatic Materialist with the Decadent trait instead of Sedentary might be better then.

Though you'd miss out on the Galactic Stock Exchange, you'd get the extra Minerals and Food from slavery, so it might balance out.

It didn't add much compared to civ5 making it seem like too much of a civ5 scenario or a mod.

And it was incredibly unbalanced. I believe that the main designers for the game liked civ5, but were bad about it and hadn't played in a lot of ways.
Even before brave new world they probably expanded very little and went for their comfy tall 4 trad "empire" on King.
So they never understood how insane it was that each new city got a few more trade routes.

Victory conditions seemed to happen too early in the tech tree which didn't work too well with the web they had meaning you had to aim even more for your chosen victory type than in civ5.

I think those are my three main complaints.
I could probably go back to it and still have some fun, it had some neat ideas. Kinda like call to power I guess. Not great.

>>all the non-militarists form a huge web of defensive pacts

Odd that the division was like that.

I liked that all militarists didn't hate me in my pacifist game. Only the honorbound warriors.
Democratic Crusaders thought I was great and some other militarists liked me as well.
A bit different while materialists/spiritualists dislike eachother by virtue of ethics instead of personality.

Wars in my galaxy were based around individualism vs Collectivism more.
>>
>>166265663
>Odd that the division was like that.
It's not completely along those lines, but the trend is one "side" of the galaxy is a bunch of spiritualists/pacifists/xenophiles who like each other, and then the other "side" is largely militarist and xenophobes.

This is why the game has HUGE potential. I really love the concept of randomly generated races facing off eachother based on ideology and government forms. After they fixed the shitty ground combat, diplomacy, planet management, sectors and the rest I would love to have even more ideologies and government forms or even mid- endgame crises based on them.

Like, having a way for subconscious neural networks to peacefully merge and form a a Galaxy Network. Or a super advanced materialist going in too deep and suddenly turning a vast swathe of the galaxy into black holes, or releasing a bioweapon that mutates them into prethoryn-lite. Or absolute madmen fanatic spiritualists ascending/disappearing and leaving behind a bunch of empty planets full of infrastructure open for grabs. I'd love to have midgame fleshed out like this with small, local crises to solve .

Also, i want a way to represent an organically changing government and be able to change my ethics.
>>
>>166270739
I'd like much more in depth diplomacy to match the new in depth faction system. I want to bribe a faction of an enemy power into disrupting their government in exchange for resources or "utopian living conditions" setting when the empire is in mine. Or have to deal with factions splitting off from the empire to form their own little empires.

Also a new start, something like Earth UN + Deneb Comonwealth of Man, but with 5-6 different colony-empires, all near the home system, all the same race but with different ideologies and political options for asimilating/subjugating the colonies or the "core empire". I want my Terran Dominion vs United Colonies war.

Help!

My empire was started with wormhole travel, and I have yet to even research hyperlanes, so I can't see them.

I've just formed a federation, however, and am building the federal fleet with hyderdrives. I still can't see any hyperlanes.

Considering I'm literally commanding ships that travel view hyperlanes, is there a way to enable that view without having to research it?

>>
>>166278713
Because of Federation ? I have no idea.
>>
>>166278713
>why can you build hyperdrive ships without hyperdrive tech
Because federation ships are the consolidation of the entire federations tech and have all usable tech available to them, but are only controllable by the current leader of the federation. Unfortunately YOU personally haven't mapped the hyperlanes and the other empires in the federation haven't seen fit to give you their maps.

It's a oversight for sure but since hyperlane mapping is tied to your empire having specific tech in the form of hyperlane mapping, and tech trading not being a thing in stellaris yet at least I don't really see a way around it. Hyperdrives are fucking trash anyway so I'd rather see them made usable again rather than them dick around with an issue so minor as to be irrelevant.

Tempted to buy Stars in Shadow, but again, i have autistic questions:
-) Does it satisfy the "cover the entire map in my colors/have every planet with my colored flag" autism?
-) Does it have a "one more turn" button after you win or does it end as soon as you achieve a victory condition?
-) Is its AI decent or is it EL and Stellaris tier? (as in completely retarded)
-)Is it good for min-maxing autists or does it force you to make many choices which don't allow the "get EVERY technology/planet/wonder/buildings/maxpops" autism 100%ing faggotry?

The combat seems MOO2-like and even better, and the style, while flash-game tier, really appeals me.

From what I've played so far, yes you can do that. Though I *accidentally* won because of a victory condition which is just "Get more votes" that happens every once in a while, and having other empires in an alliance, they WILL vote for you if you can win.

I want to know if ground combat ever stops being shit though.

And I'm not sure about the tech-tree change. I think I really was bored by the initial tech tree though.

In the Halo 'verse, they're not just random meme phrases, especially not gutter ones like Walk of Shame.

They're generally fragments of poetry or pseudo-poetry, like Pillar of Autumn, Fire Under Heaven, In Amber Clad, etc.

>>
>>166309965
As any ethic a good route is to build orbital mind control lasers ( research them asap ) it gives -30% ethic divergence per planet.

Other than that it all depends on your ethos, collectivists have it easy with an empire wide -20% edict then a building for capital world that adds -15% and so on, if you have more than -30% they will change to your ethos quite quick unless they are fanatic anything then you need even more, or some mod to have more freedom in changing their ethos.
>>

I'm a fanatic spiritualist transcendent empire with more stuff added, so I'm down to -65% divergence on said planet.

Does Yet (not) Another Maps Pack for Civ6 not work with the standard earth map? I'm just looking for a map that will cram more than eight civs on a standard size map, the game doesn't load the map no matter what if the mod is even only enabled.

>>
>>166173667
I personally have an idea: if you start to get close to victory in civ 6 or own a set amount of capitals the game goes into Cold War Mode
with most civs rallying around the next most powerful civ and only your loyal allies sticking with you.

These civs provide resources to that civ to help it achieve a victory condition among other things and it likely will achieve it, however no victory condition can be really be completed until one of the superpowers is defeated.

This is done by weakening the enemy enough by warring, sending spies, breaking up their alliance(maybe spies could be reworked to be able to coup civs to become your allies etc. diplomacy would be different in this mode), eclipsing them etc.

Maybe new conditions on victory in the Cold War could be thought of. Like winning most struggles to gain a new ally or sway the other side's allies and other things would fill up some meter. If your enemy is defeated you can carry on with your victory.

Only once the planets are fully developed and see what's the ethic divergence doing there, sometimes the negative addition from being managed by sector can fuck it below 0%.

>>166323565
From stellaris wiki:

Note that the Fleet Academy only provide their benefits to ships produced at that specific Spaceport.
>>
>>166324405
>Only once the planets are fully developed
But if I'm already over my core planet limit, so that would wreck my economy due to that cumulative -10% penalty to energy.
>>
>>166324702
Then if none of your core planets is developed you shouldn't conquer new ones or start a colony.
>>
>>166324702
Or use this mod and activate the edict that allows you to have as many core planets as you want, alongside it you get the autobuild feature, which is customizable and really great.

Besides, it's heavily MoO-based, conquering everything is kind of what you have to do.

>Does it have a "one more turn" button after you win or does it end as soon as you achieve a victory condition?
You definitely could pre-release, and I think you can still just continue playing now.
It's both possible and very easy to just establish yourself in a winning situation and then just stall forever. I've done that to research all the tech while one remaining enemy had one remaining blockaded planet.

>Is its AI decent or is it EL and Stellaris tier? (as in completely retarded)
It's kind of okay. I haven't really seen it being particularly retarded or particularly good.

>Is it good for min-maxing autists or does it force you to make many choices which don't allow the "get EVERY technology/planet/wonder/buildings/maxpops" autism 100%ing faggotry?
You can get everything unless you choose not to. The only think I can think of would be in the event that you want to collect all alien species and another empire exterminates one type, but that's normally not a concern. You actually want to minmax.

>>
>>166366856

Your gpu is probably continuing to render the game offscreen when it is minimized, thus the extra ram usage. And it's probably doing it very badly (horribly optimized) so it's using a lot more cycles.

I wouldn't be surprised if it keeps rendering constantly instead of rendering during changes.

>>
>>166368512
>>166368869
4 possible immediate outcomes to finishing terraforming:
The world becomes a toxic world, killing all life on the planet.
The world becomes a random biome
The world becomes a random biome, but spawns mutated horrors that attack the planet's armies (I don't actually know what happens when they win)
The world becomes a Gaia world with a huge bonus to happiness
Dismantling the equipment gives a penalty to happy/habitability and random events, But gives you terraforming tech.
Killing mutant horrors gives the mutant landfill tile which is +8 social.

Very dangerous event.

Beign only 100 points behind is doing good. It's like civ where you're always behind early because it's just impossible to compete with AI bonuses and then pull ahead mid and late game where AI management efficiency gets lower and lower and you're running at optimal.
You can also outmaneuver the AI armies both on the strategy map attacking units only with superior forces and in battle properly using cover and ranged units instead of just rushing blindly like AI does.
Basically it's just a matter of building basic army early so you can survive and then micromanaging stuff until you pull ahead of AI. Try to have the army from the start getting xp constantly and upgrading it so you can have elite force to crush the AI later. You're playign as necros so you probably have multiple armies. You should be able to farm the AI easily with your elite upgraded troops against their recruits with basic equipment.

I'm currently at war with the cultist and while I can easily fend of their constant attacks, my forces are too weak to capture their city. On top of that my dust income is so low that I constantly need to sell luxury resources and titan/glassteel to support my armies so expanding them is not really an option. I think I fucked my fidsi income somewhere in the past, maybe from the start by bad city placement. I mean I only have three cities rn, at t100 because approval is low as fuck anyways and they are growing at a snail's pace. Propably time to start over again. I fail better with every try though.

You're pulling the same shit he is now, "I don't think it's a big deal so it doesn't count lalala". I mean, what does Civ V have OVER Civ IV?
Civics? Subjective, some people like the old version better.
Global Happiness? This is probably a minus across the board whoever you ask.
Mods? Civ IV has more
Hexes vs. Squares? The former takes the cake.
1UPT vs. IUPT (infinite units per tile)? Subjective, a lot of people dislike the former.
Custom Religions? It's a good thing for some, a bad thing for others, and a "who cares lol" to even more.
Turn 1 goldrushing? Some people like it for the extra strategy, others don't.
Diplomacy? Civ IV and V have different styles, I think the former works better but the latter is no longer completely dysfunctional.
Technology? I think most people agree both handled it fine, compared to the clusterfuck that is VI.
Design / UI? From what I've gathered a lot of people like V's better.
Color palette / Art Style? The jury seems to be split on this one again.

You see how it's pretty much tied? You don't get to disregard any of those reasons just offhand because you don't think so. Opinions are opinions.

Not in the way that Endless Space 1had it
In ES1 you chose 3, one for each phase. Endlesss space 2 has you select one for the whole fight that would decide both your fleet's bonus and their movement pattern.
What I was suggesting is that they reintroduce phases and have you dynamically pick cards from your deck, changing your fleet's bonus and movement pattern as you go.

Call me when there's a machine that turns populations into cute loli catgirls.

OK, I'm looking to play a civ game, and I can't decide which.

The only game even remotely like this I've played is Dwarf Fort. I'll probably only play one game in the series, so which should I play?

Maybe Gnomoria or that Prison Architect-like game whose name escape me. Spacecom, or something like that.

domination in civ 6 is only possible at high difficulty with really small maps and a lot of good unit placement. The unit spam advantage of the AI is pretty severe.
Island maps are probably the best for Dom victory, play as Norway and rush them, the AI places cities retardedly on islands for some reason.

What's modern fantasy? Shadowrun?

I've wanted a post apocalyptic 4x game for a while, think I'll have to write it myself if I ever want to play one.
