Hey guys, trying to get into the Witcher.
The first game so far has some really bad mechanics which I heard greatly improve in Assassin of Kings.
How much will it affect my game if I just watched the first one's walkthrough instead of completing it myself before starting the second one?

You get to meet Yen far better in Skellige if you know little about her and you can make a more informed decision about your romance choice knowing them both. It is not uncommon for people to finish all Triss' quest in Novigrad and then get to meet Yen and like her more, but have already committed to Triss due to her quests coming first and people being completionists and doing all the stuff in Novigrad before heading to Skellige.

Both ladies are great in their own way and you might end up preferring either, but it's nice giving them both a chance to show what they have first. Either way, Witcher waifus are the best :3

On my first playthrough I figured he had the right to defend himself and his home. The humans started it, and he ended it.

But on my second playthrough now, it dawned on me that one of the miners tried to escape and crawled away pretty far from the cave before wham hunted him down and crushed him.

I thought she was adorable, I loved seeing her getting relaxed and happy. Vegelbud's ball was a turning point, a culmination of several previous quests and that one kiss meant so much for both my Geralt and Triss. I see it as a moment when Geralt finally realizes Triss is the right woman for him.

I remember having to take a break after the first time I played it and just gather my thoughts and emotions because it felt so impacting. I probably replayed that quest over 50 times now and I still enjoy every second of it.

I was so happy when Geralt mentioned that evening during his talk with Triss in B&W and his feelings about it and how fondly he recollects that night. That is exactly how I envisioned my Geralt feeling and it's like CDPR knew that and gave him the perfect dialogue line. When he said that evening was magic, I was like, yeah, that's my Geralt alright.

I did, played every game many, many times and I have also read the books. Triss is an amazing character, she has a very unique set of qualities and flaws. She can be kind, sweet, funny and idealistic but also naive, jealous, manipulative and treacherous. She is insecure but capable of taking charge when the situation forces her, she commits both selfish and selfless acts and is driven by both personal and "higher" motives, which sometimes conflict. I think she is a very interesting character. She shows plenty of growth during the series and I love seeing that.

It looks better than vanilla in almost every case.
It has some minor bugs popping every now and then (sky exposure problems, sun looking odd at times), and the DoF is quite heavy (but you can just disable it, or install KNGR native DoF and set it yourself).
I think it's pretty much everything we can get out of TW3.

Speaking of mods, any must-have mods for TW3?
I use mostly cosmetic mods, and some tools that help with immersion:
Auto Apply Oils (don't have to bother with going into menu every time I start a fight)
Friendly Meditation (very nice real time meditation)
More Shadows (makes candles and other light sources cast dynamic shadows, has a small effect on fps, but looks very nice)
Super Turbo Lighting Mod 3.0 (self-explanatory, really, this version causes the game to drop 3-5 fps)
Volumetric Clouds (adds semi-volumetric clouds over Skellige mountains. Really cool, almost no fps drops)
HD Reworked Project (high res textures and meshes, has a small toll on fps, but if you've got a good graphics card, it really improves a lot)
Nitpicker patch (and absolute must, it fixes a ton of small graphical glitches and other issues)
Auto Loot Menu (Highly customizable mod that really helps with looting corpses and picking up herbs and shit)

Yeah, but Triss shows a lot of growth during the games and I find her arc more interesting due to it. Her flawed nature and unique combination of qualities is what makes her so great. She feels realistic and human. It is also worth noting that she more than made up for her actions and proved where her loyalty stands during the games and even in the books she comes through in the end and it is said she becomes know as venerable Triss. She was never depicted as evil, merely as weak, but that is something she tries to grow out of and seeing that is really great for me. When working outside of the influence of the Lodge, her selfless nature becomes more obvious and her idealism shines.

I also like her unfortunate love towards Geralt and I think CDPR did a great job at establishing her as a viable option and her whole romance with Geralt is done wonderfully and it also lets him show a more romantic side of his personality which I also enjoy seeing. Their dynamic as a couple is far more enjoyable to me and they feel like true partners.

Triss is surely a flawed character but that is what makes her appealing to me.

Well, take your time this run, do the contracts, do side quests, take it slow and enjoy the game, it will take you some time to do it all, especially if you want to do all the question marks. Both expansions are also great. HoS has top of the line story and great characters and B&W add a whole new region that's unlike the stuff we saw so far in the game and has a lot of fun side content.

Like I already said, she saved his life 5 minutes before draining all her energy, that clip does more damage to Geralt's legendary warrior status than it does to Triss. It's the same way as him getting killed by Ves 10 minutes into the game and besides that doesn't even happen in my game, or any game in which Geralt survives. Triss more than proved she cares for him on many occasions before and after that scene. Geralt would be dead 6 times if not for her. Be thankful to Triss that your Geralt can retire with Yen in Corvo Bianco.

Nah, Yen is nice and all, but Triss is by far my favorite. Why do you even care though, that is the real question and there lies Tris' strength as a character. Even you who obviously hate her feel the need to post about her. And it's not just you, she is the main talking point of the whole fandom and the most discussed and controversial character. There is something in Triss that stirs emotions in people and that's pretty great if you ask me.
