what is the consensus with this X event's banners? I have only a single X character relic (wakka's regular SB ball from the dark ages) and I would like to get some more for synergy and just to actually have the option of using the characters.

Banner 1 seems to have a LOT of filler character stuff like 2x seymour and 2x braska, but also has an OSB and yuna BSB. Banner 2 has a lot more qt relics but I don't know how good any of them are

There are a few mages that can use wrath if you want to prioritize some strong soul break, but without that or lifesiphon the gain is going to go kind of slow anyway. The "start with 1 SB meter" RMs work well with buffs, and I'm not sure that putting lionheart/knight's charge would be worth it for a mage.

Yeah, getting SSII up is a good idea, but there's also Cloud's mako might, assuming you aren't going to use that for a healer. Like the other guy said, exploiting weakness could get you some extra bar charge, so that could help a bit too. I'm not sure there's a better option for pure SB use.

It's sort of complicated, so this explanation will be crappy. He's an old war hero who joins you with an amazing skillset and an Excalibur that auto-hastes him. Occasionally you'll fight a special character with one of three different types of sword skills. Thunder God Cid starts with all 3. Since he can 1 shot everything from the time you recruit him, he can carry you through most of the game.

He's not unimportant to the plot, but his brokenness does sort of come out of nowhere, since characters like that generally don't join your side in RPGs, and if they do they are severely gimped.

So making him stupidly strong in spinoffs seems to be almost some kind of inside joke, especially since other playable actual bosses don't get the same treatment.

Lionheart or Knight's charge works alright for when a soul break is at least moderately useful, and you can get the boss to hit you multiple times for fairly low damage. Stronger bosses are usually going to overwhelm you, though, so while you can use it to charge medicas, it can be dangerous to do so.

i did some basic drop research and the 5 energy 20 times/100 energy and only got 2 musical notes. i did the 13 energy one 8 times/104 energy and got 17 notes.

on another account i did the 5 energy one again for about 100 energy and had slightly better results but it's MUCH better in my limited experience to do the 13 energy one

Ariana's strongest dark spell is Bioga which is kinda crap for damage so she has to go with Thunder chains.

Her best friends are other mages so Dark Fina/Exdeath/Arc/Kefka/Seven(for focus/thunder imperil) friends/teammates are best to bring in order to take down the Vengeful Noise Spirit on ELT. You even get a shitton of EXP from the Gigantuar and decent rank XP compared to dunes.

Funny enough that I have all of Ariana's best mage friends as units...

I was surprised because there wasn't really a single mistranslation in this game in the first few bits, but once you get to Aeris it really goes to shit. I'm guessing there were multiple translators, and the one in charge of this segment didn't know what he was doing at all. Just a sample, Cloud saying "It's okay. There's a couple of reasons. One, her 6* is a pretty strong attacker even on her own. I use her to chain in arena with Phantom Shadow. Two, her TMR, Blade Mastery, is one of the largest ATK boosts after Dual Wield. Third, she plays wonderfully with Dual Wield and her own TMR. Fourth, she gets some decent enhancements down the road.
