Sometimes when you fail to defend against an oki setup multiple times in a row it can feel a bit discouraging.
That said there is usually a way to beat any 50/50 and instead of feeling discouraged you should be looking for it.

any tips for a relatively new to fighting games player?

I enjoy Tekken and SF. I just got SF V and realizing quick I can't string combos together to save my life. Should I keep vs. people until I get better or play computers/use training mode? My main problem, usually, with using practice mode is the difference between that and an actual game.

If I ever learned how to input stuff in training I end up flubbing it hard in actual games because of nerves and the fact I'm playing a possible unpredictable player rather than doing combos while an NPC stands inert.

I prefer learning while in actual matches, but if that's actually a really dumb way to learn let me know.

i don't know what situation you're doing it, but it might be because the vtrigger cancel activation animation + raging demon startup animation might be too long time-wise, so the jump recording never comes out. this sometimes happens in training mode when the blockstun period is 'too long' regardless of actual frame advantage due to how it spits out the recorded input

try holding up for a longer period of time on the recording or recording it in slomo

I'm in a really similar position but I've found that recently with a consistent mix of practicing in training mode and trying to implement combos in actual matches, I've stopped flubbing the combos. At a certain point they just sort of started coming out automatically, like I was typing a word and didn't need to peck individual keys anymore.

Practicing is the best way you're going to nail technicalities but playing is the only way to learn to deal with nerves and implementation.
