Has anyone here tried the Thirst mod from the ap-pro CoM addon thread?
I find the feature interesting, but the HUD element that shows me if I'm thirsty or not isn't visible so I can only guess from the occasional blurriness of my view.
Is it because I also installed the HUD Icon and Minimap mod and they conflict? The HUD mod works while the Thirst mod only works mechanically.

I think it even added blinding white sunrays to lightning bolts, too.

Thirst mod has one texture file called bytil_wnd.dds, which shows the four thirst icon stages from green to red.

You must be right. ZRP's SoC bugs page says "4 or 5 +30 artifacts + corresponding anomaly = armor repair"

It's probably just calculates how much damage you take (starting at 100% or whatever it actually does) minus your damage reduction. If you have 30% reduction, 100-30 = 70% damage. If you have 130 reduction, 100-130 = -30% damage.
So instead of subtracting some amount of health from you and your armor, it ends up adding to it.
Probably something like that.

Can you give me any leads?
I checked both ui_custom_msgs.xml ui_actor_hint_wnd.xml for references to the drink mod and I found them, they seem to be in order but since I don't know the next thing of stalker modding this is all assumption.

In ui_custom_msgs I found the following:

so I downloaded Call of Misery the other day and I have been loving it, especially because of all the extra shit in there

but I do have one question

Can you reduce the radiation damage somehow? I do have nice gear and shit, but just running through Garbage pretty much kills me. Even small pockets are dangerous, as it will just eat your HP like chocolate.

Cigs and vodka reduces radiation (if i remember correctly vodka didint in Misery but it does in CoM), no artifact does negative radiation so invest in those radiation protection upgrades on armor and get them pills for radiation protect.

This. If by that you mean "I have a sunrise suit and a pbf gas mask with T1 upgrades", that's not going to cut it. Misery standard is that pretty much anything less than a garbage bag or a pimped out SEVA suit is just delaying your death, not keeping you safe.

I do have Seva suit, I do remember that anomaly and radiation protection was the first thing you had to do in Misery, so I went for it here too.

But running from Cordon to Bar just gibs me, I come to the Duty checkpoint in Garbage with only half of my HPs and by the Bar entrance I am dead. Unless I am smoking a cigs and getting drunk the whole way, and usually still at Bar I have to go for maximum slav and smoke 5 packets while drinking 4 bottles of vodka

Whoa.

Why do mods even bother adding mutant meat? If something is radioactive then there is no way anyone in their right mind would eat it, and if it was eaten, anti radiation drugs would not save them from the sort of havoc it would wreak inside the body.

I always assumed that if mutant meat were added, it should at first be inedible, then taken to a bartender/medic to have the contaminated meat sorted out, then given back in an edible form.

Dark mode = metro 2033.

Go outside during the day and get fucked on radiation, you need to sleep during the day and go out at night only. That's why it's called DARK mode.

If you actually are going out at night, that means dark mode is broken in com.

Radiation runs on cartoon physics in STALKER, otherwise it would either do nothing during the duration of the game then kill the mc via cancer a few years later, or cause the mc to melt from the inside within hours and suffocate on his own blood from extreme exposure.

The middle ground betwixt the two is rather thin, so instead it just gets treated like RPG poison, and vodka is the cure.

I did majority of Clear Sky mods, I did all of ShoC apart from ZoA (Sorry Fatal) and did all of CoP near enough which includes doing the Misery 1.2 using only a M9 pistol

Buy a gas mask as soon as you can, since it will protect against radiation.

There's a threshold for when radiation will hurt you, so low levels won't do anything with a gasmask. Pretty sure better helmets protect against higher levels.

The former is negligible, but the latter is how I've thought severe radiation poisoning should work.

If your rad meter ever got to yellow you could take an antirad as an emergency way to survive, but you'd be a walking ghost, and it would kill you later if you didn't take antibiotics.

If your rad meter ever got to red you'd be a total goner, regardless of what drugs you'd take. Maybe artifacts could save you in such cases since those don't abide by conventional laws, it would be interesting if that were the case and would make artifacts more important.

Well, I am doing simple brainstorming here, the way I figure it working would be like AMK's alcohol kill script where if the player drinks more than a certain amount of vodka a delayed timer goes into a effect that kills the player.

If it were implemented it would have to have some text forewarning players.

I would much rather do it by mutant type, biologically speaking, smaller organisms lower on the food chain accumulate less radiation than larger ones, like the pseudogiant for instance, which when you kill emits a field of radioactivity around it.

Meat from larger mutants when edible would be rare, but more sustaining than meat from smaller mutants which would be more likely to be edible but less sustaining.

Actually the xMod for Call of Misery does the whole food gets irradiated if left in backpack and getting radiation, i think it also does that if left in a container with artifacts or in a radiation zone. Unfortunately xMod is in russian and is incompatable with the english translation of CoM.

What files does thirst mod have in configs/ui? That's where any hud conflicts will be. Unpack both mods somewhere away from your game install and run windiff on their gamedata folders to see the conflicts. Use windiff to merge the conflicting files. Congrats you're a mod merger

Looks like your save is corrupted.

Few things when saving with "heavy" mods in STALKER.

-Never use auto-saves
-Never go through a level transition with ANY menu open
-Always wait ~20 seconds after a level transition to save
-Always wait ~20 seconds after loading a save to save
-Always use escape+s to create hard saves

Do that, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Why is vanilla ShoC so easy? I remember dying at the garage and generally being frustrated at every encounter, but a few years later when replaying it I suddenly can run around without cover and shoot/knife them in the face. Kill dogs and other creatures with a shotgun blast without a sweat, I don't think that my gaming skills changed much in that time, but suddenly this game is extremely easy. You can find Saiga on body and repair it for ~25k if it's in >25% condition.
CS-3's should be better all-around than Sunrise suit. What faction are you? CS-1 suit can have 5 containers I think. Combine it with SSP-99 Headgear, add some steel plates/thermo/gravi artifacts and it's pretty good too all around.

I think I have that quest, or at least I was pointed towards it by Borov who said there was a bandit who is hiding in a bush and needs to be escorted back to the base, but I couldn't find him anywhere and the quest never appeared in my log.

Eh, sort of, but the "penalties" for the ones you always use (Bleed/Endurance) don't actually have any negative effects that matter, since Burn/Chem/Elec are 100% easily avoided and Mama's Beads has no downside, and the "heat" artifacts (-rad, worse endurance regen) are way more than countered by any +end elec artifact.

The only one with an effect that actually somewhat changes gameplay is the +Health ones where you can put them on to quickly heal up after combat without having to use medkits, and then taking them off again, which is admittedly a great mechanic that I enjoy, but still that's the only one that has any impact on gameplay, despite there being the appearance of a lot of things going on at once with artifact stat changes.

It does. For CS and CoP you can just get it from the steam library by either right clicking the game or checking the options on the right side. For SoC you do have to run it once, and after that, the key is in the registry folder.

but my coc ironman runs generally end how the other anon's run ended; one shot from a svd or similar.

sometimes i get lazy and don't scan my horizons and they get the drop on me. other times i engage a squad and don't notice and focus down the one who's packing the real heat.

when i first started playing ironman i bought exos/rad suits. i eventually discovered my runs didn't really suffer by not buying anything better armored than a heavy seva.

now i only buy exos in a really deep runs when i've developed a death wish and want to carry as much dakka on me as i march to the cnpp.

The thing i do to make CoM more playable is to add the lootmoney addon to it. Atleast then i dont have to worry as much about being able to afford the ammo.

For normal CoC players, if you arent finding any detectors or upgrade kits, try tweaking the trade files. Upgrade kits have really small spawn chance in trader inventories, but they do spawn once in a blue moon. Detectors on the otherhand do spawn frequently but only one is spawned and is equiped by the goddam trader as such just make the traders spawn 2 of each detector available on that trader. There might be other equipment that is only spawned once and is equiped by the trader and makes it appear more rare than it really is.

i'm just done. it's nowhere near as fun as SoC was. There's so much fucking pressure to save all these dumbass niggas, so I play super hardball with everyone, trying to draw fire and tank hits and I die a lot more because of it. strelok was a loner and there wasn't pressure to save people, outside of kruglov, who was at least capable, and i guesss a few other missions, but tarasov almost killed himself a whole bunch of times with grenades, the monolith squad has superhuman aim with grenades, it's all bullshit.

also people dying didn't change the stupid fucking ending and guilt trip you for not saving their dumb asses.

on top of all of this, i don't like the mechanics as much. degtyarev is slow and clumsy, and seems to trip over all sorts of debris - and there's a fucking lot of it now, or what counts as debris has been expanded. artifacts aren't anywhere near as useful in combat now, and only work for the purpose of getting through anomalies - you know, in order to get more artifacts. i mean, there's a few useful combat artifacts, but nothing great. wound healing does its thing, regeneration isn't bad, but if you're playing on master it typically doesn't make the difference. it's so dumb. artifacts exist so you can be a cheap fuck in the macrogame and not have to spend as much on medikits, bandages, or repairing. in shoc, strelok can get bullet resistances, huge endurance boosts, etc.

That being said, I thought the artifact balance in CoP was pretty good. All the artifacts are effective without going overboard and have to be balanced with radiation. Even the crappy artifacts are still good at what they do.

In SoC, you pretty much only use dummy artifacts and wound healing.

This is my point. Don't guns wear down when NOT in use? Dust, dirt, etc. + not firing a weapon for a very long time seems like a much more realistic recipe for cause of jamming, rather than regular use. Obviously guns need to be maintained, oiled, and cleaned, but use of a gun, imo, shouldn't ruin its durability.

That being said, I only own a .22 and a 20-gauge for light hunting and the shooting range, and I'm pretty lax in my care of them, so if somebody knows what they're talking about, feel free to step in.

You can store a clean gun for a long ass time without touching it and it will function just fine 6 months later.

If you dirty up a gun really badly and store it, you might have some issues down the line.

I see durability in-game as more of a "maintained" meter rather than "broken or not broken"

If you fire thousands of rounds out of a gun without cleaning it, eventually you'll get shit building up in your chamber and your firing pin channel and basically anywhere you can think of. Putting a lot of rounds through a gun without maintaining it will definitely make it jam more often.

I dunno, I didn't notice much of a difference. Both with and without Questlines, one of the random quests in the rookie village netted me a SIG SG 550 at the start of the game.

Questlines also has some other real gems, like somebody asking you to replace their shitty standard-issue shooter, only to reward you with the exact same gun you just gave them but in perfect condition. Haven't seen that happen in vanilla yet.

and I think the main reason you see AKs with default STCoP so often is because they have a list of weapons for the different Stalker types and each of them have multiple variants. Playing AMK 1.4 and the game keeps crashing every time I try to get into the Freedom base, or get close to it:

I tried reinstalling SoC and the mod (I wiped the folder completely and reinstalled everything from scratch). Got the files for AMK from the repo, along with some addons (the LURK animations and the controller fix).

Updating to 1.4.1 does nothing. I also restarted the game and the same happens exactly in the same spot as before - I do have autosaves enabled and have been using quicksaves along with hard saves. Dunno if that might be the problem.

I haven't had a single crash besides this one, bar one because of a controller fucking things up as usual. I'm playing the downgraded GOG version.

Not for me in STCoP without any other mods. I can start with 7.62x39, start killing bandits, and completely run out of ammo and end up with like 200 more 5.45, so assuming you're doing unmodded STCoP, there's no reason to use anything other than the AN94 since not only does it have time_to_aim set to 0 which is insanely good compared to every other assault rifle, but the ammo is common as fuck.

If you're playing with time_to_aim globally set to 0, sure, every weapon is viable, but with the default values it does so much less damage than the AN94 that it's just unplayable IMO.

It's the difference in mag dumping a mutant and killing it in ~5 shots vs ~20 due to the massive protection bonus enemies gain while inside the time_to_aim "cooldown".

I'm not that anon.. but I do think the STALKER games are pretty damn good vanilla. The games (especially CoC) are easy enough with weapon mods where it really doesn't bother me at all. That is interesting though, never knew that time_to_aim was a thing and enemies had resistance during it.

For me personally, I prefer a mil-sim damage model where combat is extremely lethal both ways (as I feel this fits best in my personal interpretation of the zone), versus the very arcade-like counter-strike damage model by default, but I understand why people think the default model is fine too.

Yeah, it's a really shitty mechanic that doesn't make sense, and for rapid fire weapons it completely guts their effectiveness, so the only thing that matters is either shotguns (which have time_to_aim disabled) or hard hitting, slow firing weapons, where the 1 full damage shot per second rule isn't going to bother you.

It certainly makes sense in the context of the RPG/MMO-esque progression system he envisioned, but it's just not for me. I find it too artificial and restrictive, which just doesn't work for me and how I prefer to play the game. I played 2.1.1 a while back and I kept grinding through it hoping it would get better, but it didn't. Just was sick of the entire experience by the time I got the "get the docs from the jupiter plant" quest and dropped it for good. I even gave CoM a try recently and it was just as bad as I remembered it, although it at least ran better this time.

I didn't find it restrictive personally.
Sure, you need good gear to walk in the anomalies, you can just walk in them in basic jacket, eating medkits left and right. For me it's a step in progression in the Zone and I find it smart, making Scientific suits useful.
As for grind, it's a big no-no for me when the game forces you to do it. MMORPG is just not my genre. I don't remember I had to grind in my two playthroughs of Misery and thus I finished them.
CoM is even better, in my opinion, yet slightly different. You don't have that sort of static route quests and stashes and it feels even more organic. Misery gameplay fits freeplay on CoC's maps perfectly and it's a big step in the Stalker modding community.

I think there are some elements from Misery that are good, great even, like the medkit vs stimpack interaction of out of combat vs in combat healing, as well as the armor system, but for every step forward there are four steps backwards like not being able to walk and eat a hunk of bread or sausage at the same time, crazy food requirements, item bloat, shitty repair system (the disassembly thing in 2.2 looks like a huge upgrade if it isn't vaporware), enemies having infinite bullets but drop ~3 bullets when killed, even the shittiest bandit functionally having top-tier night vision, and mutants being spongy to a ridiculous level along with anything but high-tier artifacts being shitty radioactive paperweights.

I can tolerate most of those on their own, but for me combining them all just makes the experience tedious.

I don't mean anomalies, which I actually don't mind Misery's system for anomaly protection. I mean general combat. I'm big on ironmeme in CoC, one of the tactics you need to adopt if you want to succeed is guerilla-style, hit-and-run attacks. Scout out your target, find a location with good concealment and identify some retreat points, engage and kill 1-2 targets and immediately break off and retreat, and then strike from a different point. You can do this in low-tier gear against extremely geared targets and you've got high risk, high reward.

In Misery, you there's really no point in tactics like that. Either you're geared to the point that you can effectively tackle the enemy head-on, so you do, or you aren't, and you shouldn't even bother.

Eating animations didn't really bother me. It wasn't annoying, considering the fact that I was eating out of combat only.
Food consumption was okay for me when I was playing Sniper and Recon. I was eating mutant meat and drinking water/vodka/smoking cigs to counteract that radiation. Assaulter has the biggest belly, so I will have to test if he really has enormous food consumption once 2.2 is out. I think someone calculated how realistic food consumption is in Misery and it's not far from reality, considering even the fact, that Degtyrev is constantly running, shotting and carrying a lot of items.
As for a lot of junk - yes, it needs some usage once you read and learn what it "does". In CoM it's actually being worked on. You either add a usable item or add usage to the already existing item to fix it.
What's wrong with the repair system? It's always cheaper to fix yourself. No one who is good at Misery will repair anything below 50% via Mechanics. It's just an extreme money sink.
As for enemies, it fits the balance good. Only novice/rookies can drop ~3 bullets. Master enemies will usually drop 15-45 bullets. I remember finding 40 AP bullets for SVD on the corpse. And you also can turn off infinite bullets for enemies, but the engine is not suited for that.
Nightvision on enemies is going to be reduced even more in 2.2, but I didn't have problems with that in 2.1 even. I was sneaking as Recon a lot in the Owl's notebook mission and it was hell of a fun. I had to wait for sentry to not look at my direction, sneak into the garage, plant IED (blowing up sleeping mercs) and had to use suppressed pistol to eliminate the sentry silently. And it was only one way to approach out of many (eastern entrance). In CoM, enemies see even worse at night. Also bushes are still a problem, because you're invisible in them.
Pseudodog is unjustifiably spongy, giant is justifiably spongy. Don't remember other mutants being a bullet soak.

With your next statement I disagree.
Stealth exists in stalker. It's clunky, but arguably realistic in how fast enemy can spot you in certain scenarios. I described how I dealt with mercs on the Waste Processing Station. There are multiple approaches, you can take your time to gather info about enemy patrolling routes, you can use explosives, you can use stealth/direct/hit-n-run and other tactics with each of them being different in risks as well.

I haven't found anyone selling 54r at a reasonable price, meanwhile Sid restocks 7.62x33 pretty fucking cheap, so I'm still using the Mauser too. I did just find the "sniper LR300" from the mercs in the army warehouses which just has retardedly good stats, but it isn't as fun as the Mauser.

I also just broke 100k again from all that loot, so I'm considering blowing it all on the gen 2 night vision from Freedom.
