I've never understood the appeal of fighting Chara. SAVEing them is a different story, but how you would facilitate this in game is beyond me. I personally think if you want to incorporate Chara into canon, go the Charnarrator route and make TP a redemption story with Chara being redeemed and either letting go and returning to the dead or being ghost buddies with Frisk for life.

To really talk about it seriously though, we would need to flesh out Chara and understand who they were, which would be hard to do in the Underground since they probably didn't bring much from their past with them aside from that knife, nor do I think they talked about it much. But now that post TP is likely canon, it might make for a decent expansion, going out to Chara's old village and trying to piece together their past.

Timeline crap tends to get incredibly contrived and hard to keep clear. Basic idea was that Sans was dealing with uncertainties and it was stressful as hell. Could he trust the undead goat kid? Were resets all over, so his choices here actually mattered? Or could the goat reset now? He had a lot of unknowns to deal with and not enough answers. It was when Frisk/Asriel gave the triple secret codeword that he finally had some evidence to trust him.

I could have done it better, I know. But as said, I made these comes for fun.

I honestly wanted to make a fangame as a way to introduce the full concept of the story without having to have people read the comics. Sort of a 'best of' sort of thing while also giving something entirely new. "Just watch the Chara animation and play the game", etc.
