I think the intention with Shidou's reaction was two fold: one, it makes Shidou look like an even bigger asshole when he reacted to his son's death like "oh good, that's one more problem taken care of," and two, it make Goro's sacrifice seem extra pointless. This was intentional I think, because P5 is not just about abuse/corruption but about millennial suffering. The big fears that young people are feeling right now is that they will never succeed, they will never reach a point of their lives where they don't have to worry about living from day to day, they will never feel loved and wanted, and they will die without ever mattering. Goro's entire story and fate taps into those fears super well.

yeah, it's fine. i think the unique constraints nge staff was put under, what with having to rewrite half the damn thing, and cutting kaworu's role down to one episode, actually did more to feed into the popularity (it's about the 'what-ifs' again) and also influenced the way other works would come to tackle fujobait in the future, too. like it's popular for the effective fujobait characters to die or have the most tragic relationship with protag.

My last question is if ther is any reason to max out jokers skills to rank 5?

Yeah, I don't think fujobait is a fair label when it's not done to be scummy. Kaworu was handled well for its time because he didn't come off as threateningly homosexual (at least to me) and Shinji wasn't freaked out, just flustered. I do think Anno's intentions were to troll though, since he knew the otaku audience wanted Shinji to pick one of the girls. But the point was that of course he wouldn't pick one of the girls, because they all ranged from distant to emotionally abusive to him, plus Rei died and Asuka ended up in a coma. The only person Shinji said he loved was Kaworu and its because he was the only person who was only ever nice to him, up until the betrayal.

Maybe we should stop this discussion before it becomes evangelion general actually.
