I just upgraded to t3 weapons and armor, using reach and titanfall skins. This is my first play through with aba2 on legendary so I left the rulers until near end game. I wasn't sure if there were changes made to them or how they would interact with more enemies, larger pods, etc.

I'd never tried mass mines on the rulers before, just saw it mentioned in xcg a while back.

I've only really ran thee campaigns, the first I scrapped (1/4 done-ish) when I saw that the Rulers where out after a long break from xcom. So begins the second campaign and the Rulers literally meme me to death and I was pissed. >tfw

From the forum, it seems that many of their internal testers have already beat through entire veteran campaigns and they like where the balance is. Well, there are already Psi weapons that the Avatars use. But they are just recolors of the weapons the Andromedons use. I don't think they need anything else. A shooting weapon that does more damage based off the Psi stat? No thanks. Psi soldiers are already too OP as it is in the base game. LW is easy as fuck on anything below Classic.

LW2 is said to be easier than LW1 below the Veteran difficulty.

LW is just a fan expansion that fills up a depth void that the game has, both XCOM EW and 2.

If you play EW only vanilla and never play LW, you are really missing out, after you play LW you just cant go back to vanilla because you realize how shallow that fucking game is.

Same goes to XCOM 2, once you start modding, you cant go back to vanilla (i played XCOM 2 on a cousin PS4 to teach him the basics and it was the most frustrating thing to do).

LW2 for XCOM 2 is a god send since you dont need to do any compability shit for it and is pretty much a complete overhaul that no other modder has done before (Guerrilla Warfare was close but that is yet to be done), it will bring back the xcom community to discus tactics and ways to play.

I really dont see your point complaing about LW, if you complain about eletism, well shit bad luck but that is what happens in every game franchise when there is a optimal approach to play the game with challenge.

The XCOM 2 mod community has been a fantastic cottage industry so far, and we are just starting to see Guerilla War and ABA2 approach "overhaul territory." Kind of makes me wonder if anyone is going to bother once LW2 is out.

The modding community for XCOM is nowhere near as established as it is for Bethesda / Source games. It might be a while before modders are confident / competent enough to create more overhauls. LW2 is a good jumping off point.

So first time playing xcom 2 I modded it to hell. Went thru the pastebin dled shit, then dled even more shit. I then crafted my own play experience to play the game how I wanted it.

I basicaly made stealthing through missions possible. No timers except for the few objectives that have a timer on then like dling shit or destroying relays. The threat of timers are replaces with constant waves of reinforcements. But they don't start coming unless you break concealment. I have custom classes all about sneaking and killing on stealth.

So most games go like this. Get as close to the objective as possible. Set up the loud team. Set up single stealth guy. Loud team attacks to draw enemies away from objective. Stealth guy does his job. Helps loud team by flanking.

I want to feel the experience of a rag tag group trying to avoid the superior enemy like some guerilla squad.

Sorry for the blog but I have a few questions. Did I gimp my experience of this game by not playing vanilla and playing a gameplay style not necesarily supported?

Also another question. When I break free prisoners, activate consoles, plant x4 bombs(mission objectives), is there a way to prevent concealment from breaking? Have yet to find a mod that does this.

You can certainly play it that way if you want, but that isn't the intended style of play. A lot of people presumed that Guerrilla war just meant stealth, but that's not the case. You're typically given a finite number of turns that tick down every combat mission, and you have to rapidly stage ambushes as you approach the objective.

Good. This means I can be pretty safe with an assault in the front lines, as long as I am sure he won't be flanked. Some nice suppression and everything should be good. Doesn't stop those miracle 2% shots of course, but hey that's Xcom and since soldiers have dodge as innate and aliens also have wild rolls for damage, it's entirely possible to take 1 damage. Shame that armor never blocks things completely.

It really does. My last campaign I actually started pulling larger sections to see how much my squad could handle and they would just destroy everything. Guardian was too powerful and proced almost all the time, bringing down archons like nothing. Salvo meant that the map was covered in mines and Assualts would kill almost anything with Rapid fire and for those few times a Sectopod would appear, a lightning hands, quick draw, fanfire would destroy it.

Just completely stupid. Hopefully now though, things will be different. I will probably try to get venom rounds as soon as possible so that I can have my sharpshooter using Face off to spread around. Less aim the enemies have the better.

It could be the other way around too; Their new Psy power makes them less reliant on large, bulky rifles so they switch to pistols and swords in order to better develop their inner power. On the other side of the skill tree there could be specialist weapons that give them well-defined powers/damage potential but leave everything else out.

It sounds like you are just making bad engagements and getting caught fighting instead of moving to the objective. Depending on the mission, it might be better to try to sneak around certain pods and instead move closer to the objective before you activate anything. This way, if you get caught in a firefight, you can at least dedicate some fire to take out a relay, or move to hack, or whatever.

ABA2 should have replaced ALL of the enemies in the game with the new enemy variants. Specific types do have their own AI patterns though and all AI should have been overhauled for the most part. Standard Sectoids will try to shoot if it's a flanking shot. Vanilla would have had them use a psi ability no matter what, even if their chance of something like Mind Spin was stupidly low for even the disorient.

What does 2k gain from this? Well, the answer is hype and more sales of Xcom 2 of course, but why? Xcom 2 has been on sale for quite a while now and for the console ports, they will likely never experience any of these mods. I think the expansion will be announced soon and LW2 will tide us over until then. 2k knows that the game can't ride on it's own coat tails and still generate enough sales of an expansion on it's own merit. So they got them to make this in the mean time.

The entire LW project for X2 is a just a big proof of concept for modding capabilities of X2. They hired a team to literally hype one of the biggest selling points of XCOM2 which is its moddibiltiy, which makes sense, since a moddable single player game = longevity and more control for the player which of course generates more sales. Instead of waiting for the grassroots modding community to reach this level much later, the brought on a team of experts to speed up the process. I hope it really pays off (it already has to some degree) because I would love to see this in every big single-player game that promotes modding potential.

I think that other companies should really look at games like Xcom2 as success stories of what modding can really bring to sales. I doubt that sales would have been anywhere close to as high if the idea of modding wasn't there. Sure they still would have been good, but for long term sales, it just wouldn't have happened. After the first few months, sale would have slowed to a trickle unless a sale was going on.

But modding ensured that sales were coming in constantly even after the hype of release wore off because some crazy new mod was coming out that completely changed the game and someone new just had to get in on the action.

On Veteran+, enemy reinforcement flares do not appear to XCOM
Reinforcements on many missions will appear at more regulated intervals, based on regional ADVENT strength. They will start out somewhat stronger than in vanilla and end up far stronger.
Enemy pods may have up to 8 enemies. Larger all-alien pods will almost always have more than two species.
Enemy pods will now employ certain tactics before they engage XCOM. This may include going to protect the objective or attempting to flank XCOM. They also have a broader set of options if they become aware a battle is underway, typically from hearing weapon fire/explosions or seeing dead allies.
Enemy AI will generally be more careful about cover and moving. They will order their turns to put units with certain ability types ahead of others.
Enemies who activate on their own turn will have a chance to take a ‘reflex’ action. If the unit was previously aware that a battle is underway, this may include firing at XCOM if they are unharmed after their scamper move.
Throwing any grenade has a one-turn cooldown before you can throw something else. Launching a grenade does not.
It now takes the Skyranger multiple turns to arrive after you throw the evac flare. Certain factors like Squad Size and infiltration status affect the number of turns. Throwing the evac flare reveals the squad.
When receiving a potentially fatal wound, soldiers are more likely to bleed out in general rather than die immediately.
Mission timers may be extended by officers using the “Intervention” ability. Using this ability costs intel.
Absent certain grenadier perks, grenades rarely destroy all but the most fragile of cover or induce vehicles to immediately explode.

This is referred to as the “Graze Band.” The measure of “close” is configurable in-game, and defaults to +/- 10%.
Example 1 : Base 70% chance to hit results in 60% chance of a normal damage hit and 20% chance of a graze. The displayed to hit is 70%.
Example 2 : Base 20% chance to hit results in 10% chance of a normal damage hit and a 20% chance of a graze. The displayed to hit is 20%.
Critical Hit Chance is now a chance to “promote” the damage type. A successful critical roll will:
Promote a graze hit to a regular damage hit
Promote a regular damage hit to a critical damage hit
Dodge Stat is now a chance to “demote” the damage type. A successful dodge roll will:

Your soldier rolls a 6. This is now a graze instead of a hit. Your soldier rolls an 8. This is now a graze instead of a miss. Basically expect lots of grazing since there is a 20% chance when crit and dodge are not factored in. This means that everyone on all sides is going be more survivable yet also getting hit more.

Because you literally can't spam grenades as much due to throwing restrictions. And the grenade changes themselves definitely factor in. The damage range could be just as unreliable as shooting. But of course I have no way of knowing for sure. Also crit chance does need to be factored in which is something guns have that nades don't. Crits will now counter grazer as well as giving crits. Someone who is flanked or exposed won't really be able to dodge. Crit chance could also upgrade a miss roll from a graze to a regular hit.
But really, they change so much stuff, speculation beyond the basics is going to be pretty difficult.

You'd be surprised at how much armor is being used in tight city environments in Syria. With the enemy being so dug in, the only method to clearing shit is to deliver troops to their doorstep in BMPs.

Look at it this way, in the city you are less likely to be sniped by ATGMs and anyone trying to take RPG potshots at you also has to worry about the couple of T-72s nearby who are waiting for someone to give away their position.

Looks like cosmetics and small tweaks are generally compatible, class mods and larger tweaks are compatible but not balanced for LW2 yet, and big overhauls like ABA aren't compatible yet.

I'm just playing on veteran but it looks like "extremely light" missions can be done with 4-5 dudes (half of which are rookies) assuming you're using explosives adequately. You definitely should break up the gatecrasher specs into separate squads right away.
