I've made a habit of taking max food, because I usually don't care too much about my funds and just go all out to have that extra bit of healing.

Usually you dont need it though anon. You can get fucked if you have to blacktrack a lot with food. I always bring 12+4 for a medium mission. Sometimes a little more if there is stress eaters. 2 meals+1 camp feast usually is enough. Inventory space is key. Getting used to using an antiquarian saves lives.

I think Hound's Harry and Hound's Rush are both ranged skills, so 5 acc ranged ain't a bad thing.

Do you think adding extra stats to weapon/armor/skill upgrades like +10% virtue chance for an armor or adding bleed for an ability like leper's chop once it reaches certain level is too clusterfucky?

I'd prefer having like one addition rank of each skill that splits into two different paths, each with their own additional attributes. For example:

I thought about the upgrade system and came up with something like trinkets, but for armors and weapons. Every hero has 2~4 exclusive pieces of each, extremely rare, you equip them like trinkets over your current weapon/armor, and they add a bit of HP/PROT/resistances/virtue chance/etc to what you currently have. So if you upgrade your shit they will still be useful. Also to balance things, once you give them to a hero, they cant remove it. So if the dude dies you lose it.

So a vestal would have a armor that increases her healing and dodge, another that increases her prot and HP (for 2nd rank vestals) and another that decreases stress received. A weapon that increases stun chance and another that increases damage, etc.

That sounds cool but at the same time pretty frustrating if you run into a situation where you get a rare weapon/armor and put it on only to find another one that fits better for your character but now you cant remove your existing armor/weapon, although the chance of that could be reduced by adding a small bit of text on the armor/weapon like (healer) or (guardian).

Hellion, Graverobber/Highwayman, Jester, Occultist/Vestal

GR and HM can hit the back row and do damage to the front. Hellion to hit the back guys with Swan and decimate front. Healbots are obligatory, though I'd go occultist and roll the dice since there's no tank and you'll want big healing.

Jester can tag the middle rows along with the front two positions if need be - if you are going for finale, you might want to consider dropping solo and adding dirk stab instead. Can finish off whatever enemies while setting up finale.

Jester's the bester. Get ready to come out of the dungeon as if you've been in a spa, there's gonna be so little stress.

For the weald, shovels and torches are what you need the most. As for the actual beasties, The occultist and his -dmg mark absolutely trivializes the giants and can turn them into free healing and destressing for your team so long as you dont dawdle too long. The man at arms works excellently here too because the weald enemies interact with marked targets often and the man at arms -wants- to be the guy taking blows.

Cove enemies have low stun, so a PD and Hellion and other stunning heroes can come in handy. PD+Hellion can shut down those annoying "4 fish-fighter" encounters by stunning them all in the first turn (if you're fast enough) allowing the other heroes to focus their attacks on killing as many as them as possible before the stun wears off. If you take just the PD or Hellion, you can have your heroine of choice stun either the frontline or backline, and have the other three heroes focusing on killing the non-stunned fishes.

Grave Robber can also be handy for dealing with the giant crabs, since she is one of the few heroes with a blighting attacking.

Weald is the mushroom place, right? I remember the mushroom giants being really annoying, plus they have stun resist, so what you want to do is bring the meme arab to debuff the big guy's damage until he can barely do anything to you.

The 2 mushroom meleers + 2 mushroom artillery group can be annoying, so a tactic I like to use for them is to focus on killing the backline first. Then use hero skills that push the meleers behind the corpses (like the bounty hunter's punch or the MaA's shield bash.) The melee guy will use a weak attack to return to the front ranks, allowing you to take less damage while you hack away with him and maybe try to get a bit of healing in.

Leper is generally poor in the darkest dungeon since it shuffles you more than any dungeon but ESPECIALLY in the first dungeon(hint, hint)

Also i know youve gotten used to not worrying about stress in champion difficulty but the darkest dungeon is going to fuck that attitude really quick.

That being said your party doesnt have any synergy and only the leper is self sufficient so "good luck" is my best advice.

The more into the late game you go the better Plague Doctor is, by the Champion level dungeons, having good crowd control is as important as a lot of damage. WIth reward dependent on their levels, always returning stressed, with a chance of losing a few of them (but no their trinktes, fuck that mechanic), and a chance for them to royally fuck up, like triggening a vuvulf style attack only with skellys, pigs and shit, or making all missions taht week 1 tier harder or longer

A design like vestal's is just unappealing, a female cleric should be a lightweight support, not a bulky and androgynous midliner. A priestess would serve the role better, if you see my reasoning.

Not really. Gender and traditional roles don't actually interact in my mind unless they break the verisimilitude of the game. Currently, the game has living skeletons, and heart attacks caused by stains on armor. Gigantic warrior women, and holy shit kicking nuns don't break the verisimilitude for me. Considering murder-nuns aren't a common game theme, I'd consider them under your "interesting and novel roles" criteria.

length is how many times you can camp. Camping gets you a ton of health/stress/whatevers if you budget accordingly. level 0s can do medium missions pretty easily if you set the party up correctly.

Also, this is Darkest Dungeon, your level 0s are expendable. It's best in the long run if you don't care about them until they hit level 3 or so.

I thought you were being straight-up /pol/, but I see your point.

In the Vestal's case, she actually is usually a backline ranged support, but can fill a forward position (with only one melee skill). Usually I'd also prefer an armored saint to an armored nun, but there would be too much overlap with the MAA and Crusader I feel -- the different sex helps to set her apart and it also implies interesting things about DD's world.

That latter point also applies to the Hellion, but I'd say a pulpy she-barbarian also simply fits well with the graphic novel-like art direction, and is more interesting than a male would be.

In the end, it's still a fantasy, grim thought it may be. Maybe the entire cast will be gender-swapped by mods someday, so you could alter things to your personal liking.

The Hellion in general stands out of the bunch to me, even if it were a dude I'd find her kind of odd. Vestal being a female doesn't bother me one big and I hadn't even thought of it. Lightweight religious person instantly goes more towards female in my mind. I've always thought the excuse of women being exactly as strong as men because it's another universe is a cop out, I've never liked the trope of women warriors unless it's done in a way that exemplifies the natural persuasions of femininity, like a (mythological) valkyrie. Biologically and philosophically masculinity and femininity are better suited to different roles, which many forms of media outright ignore and force a suspension of belief, something types like the hellion violate.

To me, that doesn't seem to matter too much, because the existence of lovecraft tentacles tells me that the basic assumptions of the universe are completely different. Who the hell knows about the biology of the DD universe? Are the males canonically larger and stronger than the females? How do the different races interact? What is the common stance on sexuality?

These are all questions without answers, that the designers don't even attempt to discuss. As long as the game doesn't openly contradict itself, I'm willing to forgive a lot. The universe operates on a logic entirely alien to me, and it's a mistake to apply my local standards to it.

I'm just saying, that the secret at the center of DD is almost certainly not the case in our world. Our traditions are defined by our biology. It's not a stretch to assume DD humans might have a different biology. You can really only judge a game by what it gives you, unless it purports to represent the real world.

There is also the fact that magic exists in that world, and you might notice that most of the female units are squishier and in lighter armor than their male counterparts. I think Arbalest is the only exception, and even she is a ranged fighter instead of a meleer. Besides her, vestal is the only one who wears armor, and guys like crusader and MaA are even more armored than she is.

Plus, this is a fantasy game, and fantasy games have already stretched the limits of reality, which is why your heroes can survive multiple gunshots to the face and keep on fighting.

She'd be more shallow if she weren't double-sided in the way she is.

DD strives to achieve an 'offbeat' fantasy -- where they could make a stock soldier or paladin, they choose a Crusader; a bard, a Jester; a barbar, the Hellion; in addition, they opt for more out-of-the-way things like the Bounty Hunter, Houndmaster, and Abom. I think the Vestal is placed just far enough outside the range of a generic cleric design to be in keeping with that, largely because of the connotations of her title and what they imply.

How would you make a male cleric interesting and 'offbeat' in the same way?

I hate to sound like a progressive saying this, but I feel you're boxing yourself up in abstractions like gender roles -- which, while they may be vital to the healthy functioning of real world society, would constrict creativity if they're adhered to as rigidly as you say they ought to be.

I agree completely, it's poor taste to take something like a regular European crossbowman and turn him into an African woman, it's just a lazy way to shove in real life politics(political correctness) and fulfill a stupid racial quota. You can say that the world of DD is different from ours, but that obviously isn't the reason for this design choice.

My only issue with Arbalest is that all the recolors of her have the same dark skin. Meanwhile, you can get pale/brown/dark versions of almost all the other heroes. It makes sense for the occultist not to have any pale versions, because he's based off the Mad Arab and clearly supposed to be Middle Eastern, but there isn't anything especially African about the arbalest's background.

I think they should have made Arbalest more "foreign" like the occultist and antiquarian. On the other hand, some dialogue of the Arbalest mentions that she's a wanderer and well-traveled.

Even if Arby was white, it kind of looks like they were trying too hard with her with the full armor + giant crossbow. It would have been better if she had light/medium armor and a regular crossbow like the skelly crossbowman. She looks more like an Original Character than Abomination (the actual Original Character of the game.) It's a little odd that people suggest that the Hellion isn't fine while talking about how there's a need to stay true to Lovecraft.
You have to remember a very basic thing about the Mythos: It started off as pulp. The Mythos has always been a tale of two Howards, and Robert E. Howard's Conan had quite a few barbarian women running about and wrecking face, often while still suffering from the fact that, well, barbarian men tend to wreck them harder.
I don't really care enough for the Arbalest to defend her, and frankly, I agree that she seems to be a product of a random selection of traits, but I don't really care about that either because nothing about it tries to make me care.

Basically, always remember: Hyborian Age is basically canon in the Lovecraft Mythos so the Hellion is perfectly justified.

There are currently two versions on the Nexus, one that's pretty much just a thinner Crusader with tits, and one with a cute face and blonde hair. The second one also has the standard helmet, but it's only closed during combat.

The first one has a slightly better body, while the other is more unique and cute. I prefer the one with the face, but it'd be ideal if you could combine them into one.

So are the tactics used to deal with Level 1 bosses pretty much the same as the tactics used for Champion level bosses? As in, if I want to take on that mutating heap of flesh on a Champion Level dungeon I should still just stick to stacking blight and bleed as a AoE and trying to work around the super buffed up resistances by stacking good trinkets on my heroes? Because when I look at Champion Hag or Champion necromancer, things like bleed and blight which helped me a lot seem a lot weaker in comparison to a Mark team or just stacking buffs on a Helion and let her go at it.

Generaly a well kitted team scales equally, if not better with the enemies. I was beating the 18 pounder down by 10+hp per hit , kept stunned more than half the time the anchorman and the, necro, killing his summoned skelly the turn they appeared, killed the hag before the dude in the pot got to deaths door, bled the flesh to shit, humiliated swine king with flares, the siren with holy water, and the prophet kept collapsing the ceiling on a single dude, protected by a dodgegod doggieman while i mased his shit to splinters.

Dont be afraid of ancestors trinkets, they help you kill shit fast, thus preventing stress in the first place.
Ancestors balls+mathctisck arblest, clensing crystal+ancestors lantern occultist, spiked collar + ancsetors candle (or vvulf tail) houndmaster, wounding helmet+ ancestor penis bountyhunter temna fucking deletes everything, especialy after camp with hounds scoutingchance + ancestors lantern+BHs suprise chance giving you the first say in most fights.

An another OP combo is vestal with healing scroll+julias head, and everyone else with taht +40% healing recived trinket, a jester with a bright trambouline, and anything for the wildcards, then you have infinite heals and stresshels out the ASS. Also, put jester to pos1, so he can start with finale, buff everyone form the back the second turn, stressheal 1-2 fagots, tehn move to teh front in 1 step (wihtout solo) to slap whatevers lefts shit. A good pick for wildcard is helion with +stun strinket (apart fom the +heal) os she can delay 2 guys at once while the party heals as need, and can wreck the pos 4 in teh first turn.

This is all pretty useful, thanks mate. I've been running 2 Helions for most bosses in [1;2] and [3;4] dungeons since I can just buff them up at camps and use the two backliners as control+heals while I crit away the boss, of course this isn't possible in certain bosses, and I noticed that the strategy started falling off with most bosses so I was worried about how viable it would be for Champion dungeons.

I'm also having a hard time fit a Leper into my anti-bosses comps, I love the dude but having 3 roster slots taken by Leppers seems pointless when I can't reliably take them to any boss fight without thinking I could be using something else instead.

Well in my first run of the game I removed the level cap on dungeons to combat the grind aspect but I decided to restart and do a whole run as the developers intended before doing my own tweaks to the game, so far my biggest complaints are

>the randomness of the food system
>the stage coach is unreliable in giving you a variety of heroes, which I'd be ok with if the roster size was larger
>level capping dungeons instead of finding a work around that made more sense (maybe a higher level hero should demand for gold for going into a low level dungeon for example)

I agree completely with all your complaints. Food should simply have a meter, like the torch.

Stress and quirks could then play into how fast it depletes, or something.

The stagecoach should simply not generate more than one of each class at a time, we have the class events for that already.

The whole thing where you have to grind up characters to different levels is probably the biggest complaint this game gets in general, I guess we'll see if it'll become more manageable in Radious mode.

Diseases, if that's what you mean by "sickness" are not not random, you contracts them during the stage. But yeah, the quirks, positive or negative, should be earned depending on the experiences the character has had during the dungeon, or randomly gotten, but only if they've got very high stress.

When you go to download the mod a pop up comes up with a link to the assets to download. I'd advise making a backup of the heroes, trinkets, raid, localization, upgrades, and panels folders in your DD directory first. After that just copy over everything from the asset folder EXCEPT the localization folder, then run the localization bat. Once thats done copy over everything from the mod folder and it should be working.

Other than that I don't know any way to get the vanilla class, and this tweek of it doesn't make it overpowered or anything as far as I can tell.

The Leper is reasonably useful for the cannon fight and the swine king. Remember, though, that the bosses are optional, and the darkest dungeon is not. I personally have found the leper's ability to heal himself and hit stupidly hard immensely useful in the darkest dungeon.

I think a story like Darkest Dungeon could be done in all sorts of settings. If DD wasn't in a northern European type setting, I think a wild west setting would work too. You could have cowbows, injuns, freemen/escaped slaves, pioneers, Mexican traders, fur trappers, city slickers, etc, all drawn to a miserable ghost town filled with all sorts of spoopy shit for various reasons.

The worst part of confusion spores is that move resist has little effect on it. Near as I can tell, each hero is randomly moved back 1, 2, or 3, or forward 1, 2, or 3. Get stagecoach up until you feel like you're getting a good swathe of recruits every week. Upgrade as necessary so you have some empty spots on your roster for particularly good recruits.

If your guys can get upgrades at the blacksmith, it's a number one priority. Once you hit rank 4 weapons and armor, you can slack off a bit since money becomes a limiter there (Each 4->5 upgrade is 4000g.). Guild is important too and should follow a similar upgrade path (once again hold off on rank 5 until later on unless it's a very valuable skill like the plague doctor's stun grenade).

Getting two slots on each of the stress buildings can be good to ensure you can always treat a hero when they need it. Past that, it's a little redundant since you'll never be able to fill them all if you're diligently treating overstressed heroes or running a crusader/jester.

Medical Ward can be good, but you probably won't use it much early on; your plague doctor can cure disease with her camping skills and you're probably not going to be locking in quirks or removing bad ones until you have a sufficient amount of money to blow on it.

Damage bonus to stunned targets is too low for its use because stun, by nature, means you don't need to rush to kill the target if you want to get the most out of the stun. She's got that +25% HP trinket too, combine it with a life crystal or a tough ring and she's a giant ass meatwall on her own.

I think they were on to something with the AQ, but didn't realize it until the game was out. She could keep her bonus to finding loot, which is usually something good for easier dungeons but too much of a liability for hard ones, and instead have that corrected by giving her really strong unique to her trinkets that bring her much closer to a normal hero in terms of strength (Maybe stuff that gives bonuses to her specific skills, such as making flash powder groupwide or giving a buff to people hit with her heal.).

On top of that it's not like the game takes part in a happy gender equal world. The Ancestor fucked loads of bitches lusting after his wealth and power, the town still has a brothel. Female enemies are weaker backliners (cultists), or said bitches lusting after the Ancestor who've turned into monsters which rely on magic (the siren) or into giant brutes, hence their strength (the hag).

Judging from her origin comic on the website, her family wasn't even accepted in their region, seeing as an angry mob was burning down her house, pretty much implying that they're completely foreign to the region and to the local culture, and immigration still happened in the medieval times this game is based on. You can do teh green missions without any updates easily, and i would recommend doing so, so you only start spending money on niggas once you dont have enough lowbies for a low mission.
This saves you money by making it loss free to fire taht wine drenched stresssed guy, and once you do start spending money, thanks to teh upgrades it will be WAY less, wastly helping you with the grind

Fuck, I remember going in to Vvulf blind, I felt violated afterwards. He came fairly late, so I had a team of 6s with great trinkets decked out in rank 4 or higher gear and skills, but I was completely unprepared for the stress damage of the area. I swear madmen were popping every other fight, and the damage the cutthroats did was unbelievable.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd have packed on some stress resist or at least virtue chance trinkets and possibly some accuracy stuff to go with it. At least a pull ability to grab fusiliers to the front so they stop racking up tons of damage every turn (Or maybe the cutthroats, they're just as bad with their high crit chance.).

I generally don't use the Leper if movement is a thing. Even with move resist, there's no real defense against shuffles because it affects your whole party usually, and the majority of dangerous move actions come from party shuffles (Confusion Spores in the Weald, Surprise attacks and ambushes, shamblers).

My recommendation if you run a Leper is to either prevent surprise attacks and never bother shamblers or giants, or run with highwaymen, jesters, and grave robbers who can use their abilities to still be effective and move backwards or forwards.

I mean, there's not a whole lot of reason to do them, except I'm going hunting shamblers, and the best way to do so is to snuff your torch. I'm more likely than not going to have way more loot than I can carry, so pitch black is irrelevant.

Red Hook needs to make unique drops only found at low torchlight, and I'm not talking just ancestral trinkets from shamblers which by definition are limited. I'm talking unique, highly viable gems (Or at least upgrade all gems found by a single tier), or maybe some sort of consumable item that grants a positive quirk or unique bonus for the current or next quest. Just giving more loot is worthless for anything but a short dungeon.

After some testing, I discovered the increased stress is not additive in a lower light level as I previously assumed. This means instead of stress resist being invalidated by ever increasing penalties, instead it becomes more valuable than ever because of the incredible amount of reduction it provides.

Once you overcome the stress of a low light run, pretty much everything else is just a slight increase in difficulty. Monsters have a bit higher accuracy and critical rate, but so do you, so you don't need as many damage trinkets.

tip for anyone creating reskins, you can just go back to the main menu to have the game reload the skin when you add any changes when you're still testing it instead of restarting the game over and over.

Anyway, Doom Anon here, classes started so I couldn't work on it much but I have a freeday today. I decided to transfer my progress to the Barbarian Leper skin (It's in the Modders Resource Category of the NexusMods DD Page so it's hard to find, and there's no Affliction/Virtue Poses). Personally, I think this works much better don't you guys think?
