do quests that need no shooting or abuse npc to do that for you, eg the shevchenko attack you can just shoot the bandits once they get inside and let the stalkers to the rest, same with the ranger station, the succ lair you can just hide in a corner while the other guy kills them, then go get the gas and gas them for free veles from beard
at dredge station give the artifact away when the other stalkers stop you, then run behind the guy and shoot him when out of sight from his pals to get artifact back and shit

in misery jam chance is capped at 50% durability so even shit condition weapons are usable
buy a hunting shotgun and a 45 pistol with du rounds whenever you got the cash, they will carry you until pripyat underpass, by then you will have the trapper shotgun and strelok gun which are perfectly fine until the end, ump with DU rounds still beats both
get the missing hunters quest going asap, at the end when tremor kills himself you will loot the full medic inventory off him which means lots of cash and consumables
weapon proficiency is a meme, if you find a sniper rifle as assaulter or recon keep it and abuse it
military batteries have the best cash/charge ratio, never buy other batteries
never repair low condition weapons, jut save to buy new ones and the consumables to repair them at high condition (eg gun oil)
i used to carry a broken assault rifle with grenade launcher for the occasional surprise chimera or pseudogiant

Dude seeking more chill spawns here, I've just tested DoctorX desolation with online exclusion radius at 100 and population factor .25. The zone is definitely a lot quieter now. Maybe a little too quiet. I ran into a few squads in Army Warehouses but that is to be expected. In all of the Garbage I only met one group of stalkers, some in the central hangar. The Duty guys I shot up at the Rostok southern entrance hadn't respawned by the time I made my way back up through there so that was nice. Merc base feels a little too deserted for my tastes with only one squad aside from the mechanic and trader. Gonna keep testing.

There's a variety of things you can do. If you're using STCoP, >>165758804 will bring NPC accuracy back to where it should be.

if you want to go further than that, simply editing actor.ltx and removing your chance to "dodge" shots (functionally it's just a percent chance to delete projectiles that actually hit you) with the hit_probability_gd lines is an easy solution.

If you want to increase the accuracy of NPCs themselves, open m_stalker and m_stalker_zombied and search "disp_" which will lead you to the fire dispersion section which is the spread multipler for NPCs in that stance. 8 would be 8x the default spread of the weapon+ammo, for example, so lowering them will have NPCs that are more accurate.

I was a little offput by the crazy mouse acceleration and had to fuck around with the settings for a while before starting, but the game itself is fun right at the start. Only played CoM for like 2 or 3 hours, and the economy is definitely tougher.
Mostly because gunning down enemies isn't as profitable, they drop like 3 items for me most of the time. Also, dynamic missions don't offer as much money as the usual sidequests in CoP, and stashes are decently common but with less items.

I turned on full offline alife after i played it last, so maybe that'll help with enemies finding more items.

Real talk, I knew something was in there because earlier with the night hunt with the chimera it fukn rekt me and i went 300 feet in the air, and as my corpse fell to the ground i saw the light of something neato. I was going to give up but then an emission happened, and I basically hadda stay put and deal with lotsa hamsters. Ended up making some friends with the bandits who also came in there (and who ended up dying to a bloodsucker they aggroed and left ME to deal with) during the emission before deciding to explore further since I could see the complex went under where I had just been. Took a few hours of fiddling with the pillar puzzle to get it right - initially tried just going through the sparkles, then going through each set of pillars, then each set of pillars in a certain order, etc... but i did it.

That's because CoP is the most competent. Aside from it being bizarrely ugly, it does the STALKER design best. Big maps with lots of things to find and explore and people wandering around, side quests that actually work and are meaningful, dangerous mutants, blowouts, the works. I think it's a little too empty and a little too friendly, but of the three, it feels the most like a game that somebody thought about and put work into.

That being said, I think all of the jank and idiosyncrasies made SoC into this kind of miracle game. Everything was so much weirder and more mysterious because the mechanics weren't communicated as well, weren't as well thought out, and sometimes plain didn't work. Small stupid things like having special dummy artifacs placed in the world, or item descriptions that referenced things that didn't exist like the Shell artifact, or repairing your armor with anomalies. It always felt like there was more to the game.

When you see a technician the upgrade list will have 3 columns
For the first column you need basic, for the next advanced and then the last is expert

Online A-Life is people and monsters wandering around doing stuff while you're in the same map. So they're loaded and you see them doing stuff. Offline A-Life is the simulation of people and monsters doing stuff when they're on different maps. You can't see them, but they're doing stuff so you might still see corpses or gunfights or find weird stuff in people's inventories. In CoC, offline A-Life is running for areas adjacent to the map you're on.

Anything that isn't running online or offline A-Life is not simulated. They're deactivated until you get a map away from them and that's when their simulation resumes.

Online exclusion radius is different form that, it just means that in the online area (your map), stuff will not spawn in that radius.

Due to engine limitations, there is no way to specifically drop their accuracy while shooting through bushes as it's an all or nothing thing (NPC 100% sees through the object as if it wasn't there, or their vision is completely obscured by it) but you can raise transparency_threshold between like 0.7 and 0.9 and they shouldn't see through most bushes at all anymore.

I don't know, I've never noticed a difference with it on or off, and I did some pretty extensive testing. My guess is that it probably modifies the fire dispersions in the m_stalker that's packed in the database, and since I already use a heavily modified m_stalker that's overriding that, it just doesn't do anything for me.

So, I've been playing a lot of Misery lately and want to try something new. How is Call of Chernobyl? Let's say if compared to Misery, or something. I know it's a freeplay-mod, but is it as in-depth as Misery or as unforgiving and dynamic?

The only real problem with CoM and Misery, imo, is the unfair loot system.

Even bandits should have 2 mags of primary ammo, one in gun and one in inventory + secondary weapon, except in case of shotgun then there should be around 10-20 shells. Bandits should also have food, and they do have mutant ones in CoM which is fine but then they also should have something like cigs and vodka. Also atleast give bandits bandages, no need to give them medkits since those could drop from "better" enemies like loners.

Well, we know that hit_probability in actor.ltx is the player's percent chance to 'dodge' shots that hit him, i.e. a simple dice roll on whether or not the shot deals damage, or is deleted.

We also know that when hit_probability_max_dist is lowered from the default value of 3 to an extremely low fractional number (like what STCoP does for some reason) when combined with the default hit_probability dodge percents, NPCs seem to have difficulty reliably hitting the player with the default hit_probability settings. I think you're confusing the two numbers. What I'm saying is:

Setting hit_probability_gd_master to 1.0 makes it so that no shot will ever be a diceroll, because they will always hit. The probability of a hit is 1.0, aka 100%.

Setting hit_probability_max_dist to some huge number like 1000 means that at no matter what range, the diceroll will never kick in because the player would have to be beyond that range.

So basically, they both have the same effect. No dicerolls. At least that's how I think it works.

I have to use the map number indicator, since the PDA contacts menu crashes for me.

I've never been against it, NPCs carry PDAs, The game has always allowed you to detect the exact number of stalkers in a given area through it, it's assumed that PDAs detect other PDAs.

The minimap icons themselves for hostiles bug me more, and both it and the PDA indicator are less troublesome than the auto-detect that the binocs use, which I would like to get rid of despite its convenience.

With that said, the PDA number indicator is THE most useful tool in Ironman, not just because it informs you beforehand of how many stalkers are in an area, and what tactics you may need to use to get rid of them, but during looting corpses it is something absolutely essential to be aware of.

Carrying broken weapons is a bad habit. It won't make you a good sum and generally isn't effective.
But here's how you increase the weight limit:
find gamedata\configs\system.ltx and then find max_weight in it. Change it to what you like. That's the value of how much can your character carry before starting to tire.
Then find actor.ltx in configs/creatures.
Find max_item_mass and also increase it to what you like.

warfighter turned every armor in the game into garbage bags for me. i'm having a hard time justifying upgrading past 5.56/5.45 because they make quick work of anything, even exos. there's almost no point in carrying a heavier gun with heavier/rarer ammo to get a marginally faster kill on what is already a nearly instant one.

I actually like it, kinda

it's super hard especially at the beginning but once you get a scoped rifle and anti radiation artifacts you stop dying every 5 seconds so it becomes alright

what I really like is the economy: money is almost nowhere to be found through missions, shit is super expensive to buy, but if you hoard everything you find (food, vodka, mutant parts) and get it to the right guy, you can barter it for much better deals. For example, one "trader" asks for two cans of food for one vodka bottle, but offers three 5.45 ammo boxes too for the same price, you think that's a decent deal right? Thing is, two maps across there's one trader that offers FIVE 5.45 boxes for one vodka bottle, or 3 AP boxes -hell he'll even sell you a goddamn PKM if you bring him enough vodka, it's like all the military guys in the Zone are fucking drunkards. And right between them there's one guy selling food cans for money. It's much better value because one box of standard 5.45 costs like 3k roubles at normal traders but you can buy two cans of food for less than 1k, exchange for vodka, then for ammo. It forces you to go on supply runs which I kinda like

The only way to really make money is to loot common guns (armor too if you're lucky with loot drops) and sell them -once again at the right guy, e.g. Petrenko pays double what other traders offer for slavshit but does not take NATOshit- or if you're lucky and you get stuff above 70% condition you can barter for some repair kits, repair your loot and keep it for your own use. This is where exosuits come useful: they allow you to carry A LOT of shit, also they let you sprint, so I'm not complaining

Common artifacts can be transmuted from a bunch of shit so you can transform a bunch of common artifacts, some bread and vodka into a rarer artifact that then you can transmute via the standard AMK OP as shit recipes

instant reaction enemies are bullshit though, and some missions are just dumb, same for some map spawns

lua_help.script is auto-generated from a console command available when running the engine compiled in debug. It has no other purpose then to serve as documentation. The one in Call of Chernobyl has not been updated due to the inability to build CoC in debug because of updating luabind and updating luajit to 2.0 and the inability to fix it.

What kind of difficulty settings are you guys using for CoC ironman? I've just gotten into the wonderful world of modifying the config files to make the game more challenging, but I'm having trouble finding a good balance.

It's not a Misery merge or port but it will be an addon aimed at more restrictive gameplay and better balance, things we can't get away with making a 'base' mod for others to use.

Misery is old and buggy, it would be crazy to merge it. CoC is the evolution of those scripts.
