So it's nearing the end of turn one for me, and I spent all my money on mercs to crush the quadians and the caledoneans, and now I'm wondering what to do next. Gonna try to hold every scrap of roman clay, but where should I send my spain/africa armies? Should I try a similar strategy next turn with the alamans and marcomans with the money I'll get from the church demolition?

I dont want to meagerly defend, I want to try to eliminate as many enemies as possible as fast as possible. Any tips?

Africa is surprisingly peaceful, and the ERE should be strong enough to hold the eastern border for you. Just focus on your northern borders for now, trying to catch hordes before they break through to your lands and start raiding.

Britain is the raping ground of Europe, so expect it to fall fairly quickly, despite your best efforts. Holding the German border is more important than sending spare legions up to bully Celts.

I'd use time warp but it clogs up the UI so much with all the extra units that aren't always necessary or are sometimes worse than the FOTS counterpart. eg Yari Ashigaru. iirc they were the same price as spear levy but shittier in every way. Spear wall isn't exactly useful when almost every enemy has a rifle

Get the no wood elf confederation mod, they're gonna fix it in the next patch but that's a bit off. And as it is now the wood elves are basically end times 2.0 with how they expand.

Also as the other anon said, a ssd will help you out with the loading times. I went from 2 minutes to 30 ish seconds with an ssd.

The Chaos invasion isn't nearly threatening enough, hell in basically all Empire and Vampire campaigns it's entirely possible to have 4 stacks sitting in ambush stance by Praag by the point it spawns and blow them all the fuck out with no effort.

Ironically the Chaos invasion is only actually scary when you're playing as Chaos yourself.

I have no DLC.
I tried playing it once in the past, was Ostrogoths. I migrated to Africa. I fought like two non-settlement stomp battles on the way there.
One was a spectacular fight in a dark wood which I set alight as the Romans approached from every angle.
I lost that game when I formatted not long after.
Finally reinstalled and I'm at a loss of who to play.
I started up Sassanids first just to get my bearings, but they're TOO BIG.

So I want somebody small. Saxons or Franks?
Or just the Goths again? If I do the Goths I want to convert to paganism and set up in Ravenna. How do you convert religion again? It's 35% in province right? Does that mean I'll have to settle in pannonia or something to pick up the religion before moving on?

None. Attila is pretty much perfect vanilla. The only things i'd change relate to climate change, ruin settlement, and fertility, and even then you'd need to play the game to know how they affect the world and how much you want them to be changed.

No, if he does thing well, it's more like 5 minutes to position units, 5 minutes for the clash and then 5 minutes to free up a flank and "hammer and anvil" the enemy. Plus, in DeI, skirmishers are used much more and are much more important. I usually take 10 to 15 minutes in DeI, but that's against barbars. Heavy armored units actually require you to always look for the flank and are much tougher.

I can see what CA was thinking. They made the game faster so a dude can finish campaigns faster (and that's is why you see so many posts here about campaigns finishing, something that was a bit rarer when Rome 2 came out) and to make it more accessible.

There's nothing wrong with that and in Shogun 2 you could already see that being implemented. I'm not asking for one hour battles like that ridiculous mod for Rome Total War, but yeah, 15 to 20 minutes should be the standard for the Total War series. You can't even appreciate the neat touches they put into the graphics without slowing the game down.

The engagement itself, at least in my experience will kill 300 to 600 of your men and the same to the enemy. I think the main problem with slowing down battles in warhammer is that some units would look pretty weird if they weren't killing things as quickly as they do. Regarding Zoroastrianism and Eastern Christianity, the Eastern Christian religious buildings reduce unit upkeep in your regions, and well as reducing corruption. Zoroastrians give the same old bonus of sanitation and minimal public order bonus. The religion also changes what your elite endgame units are. The Christians get a neato melee infantry unit that is ridiculous in attack power(see the previous image) and a good anticav cavalry. The Zoroastrians get shock cav and a sword cavalry. Honestly the two units you get from the religions are a little redundant(the sword infantry can be replaced with Shotelai if you please, and the shock cav role can be filled by Camel Lancers) so it comes down to the building bonuses in my opinion.

Don't forget that the Lakhmid bonus means you can replenish your army in pretty much just two turns from nothing, so heavy losses in taking an enemy city won't leave you vulnerable. This applies to the garrison units as well, meaning a small garrison will be fully replenished once it repels a costly attack.

The Lakhmids are still my favorite campaign that I did, and I recommend anyone who hasn't tried it to do so.

I've tried it, it is fun at first but also just terrible.

It spawned as a "fix" to the shitty Rome 2 release, primarily the overthetop squalor mechanic which was granted, overthetop. But it went much beyond that and when R2 was patched and fixed and made into an average but solid TW title Radious didn't stop and simply ruined everythng by making it ridiculously easy in his idea of fixing what was apparently too hard but long since fixed, and also added a billion total fantasy units. Some people like that, some don't, but they're not even good unhistorical units, the balance is terrible and half the time the stats don't match up, showing great armour stats but visually wearing cloth, while a unit in mail has less armour stat, for example.

If you want a better vanilla experience just mix and match mods.

On a stack by stack basis yeah they aren't a threat. But the problem is 10 turns in I only had 5 settlements and a single stack. While the Greenskins some how managed between turns 3 and 11 confederate 4 different Orc factions and gained 6 new stacks, one of which was Wurrzag and his giant. I just can't do anything about that kind of volume early on. Especially when I was the only faction they were at war with.

Only the Empire and Dwarf AI should be allowed to confederate tbqhfam.

The first campaign I played was Empire, and I was thrilled as fuck to get Greatswords. I thought their 95 Armour meant they were invincible. I was unpleasantly surprised to see how squishy they were.

Use Skirmishers as they are intended, that means, pull the bulk of the enemy army into your center and brace for them. Campaign movement is pretty much a necessity as a horde, so Archaon wins it for me.

Plus chosen are broke in campaign, you can win sieges that out number you 2-1 and have like 30 men dying just by storming the walls.

Fireball is one of the best spells in the game too, it's basically mobile artillery can rack up a couple hundred kills without even going into combat.

currently finshing off leftovers of macedonia in greece, have about 11 legions in upper and lower greece 31,000 men

battle started on a huge hill, had to move my infantry to defensive position with my back to rocks, calvary was mostly useless and slow moving on hill and got BTFO early in the battle, infantry slogged it out til time ran out but managed to wear down macedonians to about 60% casualties at the end of battle with counterattacks

I don't know how you played your campaign, but I found the Chaos invasion almost impossible to deal with. Playing as the Vampire counts, I conquered the southern Empire and let the first wave of the Chaos invasion go by to the north and wipe out all the Empire related factions, leaving a wasteland. So naturally I started moving into the vacuum - not realising that that was only the first wave.

Then Archaon turned up.

Even with four full armies I simply couldn't be everywhere at once - including the northern tribes and the beastmen they had like eight armies with nowhere to go but my lands. I was in the worst possible position because I'd extended my borders and invested a large amount of money to recolonise the ruined settlements, but I hadn't yet had time to consolidate. I had to let go of Hochland and the one Kislevite settlement I'd taken and concentrate on everything south of the Talabec River. But even that was too much. If I held a walled settlement, they would just go around me and raze an undefended settlement further into my territory. The battles were brutal enough, but after I decimated an army it would stop trying to fight me and run away, seeking out squishy targets. Tracking down the remnants after the main battles, playing a ridiculous game of trying to ambush them or at least drive them away from my undefended core, was next to impossible. One time a four-unit remnant turned up out of nowhere in fucking Wissenland - on the complete opposite side of my empire to the "front lines" - and razed a town. But finally I had most of the survivors dealt with.

And then Archaon turned up again with four full armies.

What the fuck? I fucking killed him. Then almost immediately he pops back up again.

Seriously, I am genuinely asking: what the fuck do I have to do to get rid of him? It seems like the game is set up so that Chaos always wins. Which, while very fluffy, is not fucking fun.

CA can't into balance. They've made it a habit to release a spell that is fucking OP as fuck, then nerf it to the point of being completely useless. I remember when the Beastmen first came out, everyone used Bray-Shamans for that one AoE spell that dropped men like flies. Then they nerfed it after like a week and it is, like everything else, now useless.

They need to find an in-between. The whole point of wizards is they aren't good in melee but they can support well. Or at least on paper that is the idea. Just give spells a hard kill number, like everything Gork's foot lands on dies and everything else gets knocked down. Meaning you could potentially get 15+ kills from a good spell placer, then knock the rest of the unit over and make them susceptible to a charge.

That is another thing, spells don't need to just kill shit. Just make them useful. Yeah, knocking a unit over and negating their charge is useful. But it isn't worth sacrificing a lord that can single handedly fuck entire units (Grimgor) for just gaining the ability to negate ONE fucking charge on ONE fucking unit.

No AP. That is literally their only problem. They are intended to be glass canons, but seeing as how dorfs are their main enemy not having AP is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. They are absolute murderers in flank attacks though.

I would guess it to be Bretonnia because at their release they won't have any paid content while *every* other team has paid content, and maybe... Beastmen? Wood Elves, Chaos, and Beastmen are the only teams that haven't gotten a followup DLC, but Wood Elves just came out (and have two factions) and Chaos I think they won't bother touching much until later. Even though I think it unlikely, that leaves Beastmen.

I was of a mind to say VC for Mousillon, but I think it makes sense that they'll give Empire and VC a separate sub-faction each as FLC, since they've already gotten a paid DLC, but they don't yet have unique sub-factions. Mousillon seems obvious for VC, for Empire I can't say, though Todbringer could work since he's already in game.

So yeah, unless they do something really wacky, I would think it to be another DLC in the vein of G&G and K&W, for Bretonnia and someone else.

Looking back I realize it dumb to say that Wood Elves wouldn't get DLC for having just recently released, while Bretonnia would, so I guess that makes Wood Elves a possibility.

Alternatively, I could see them doing something with Norsca and making them playable as another Chaos faction.

Having a DLC for beastmemes or Welves would be absolutely ridiculously considering their asking price. I fully expect them to get RoR added on, as well as a third LL for Welves.

Bretonnia getting a DLC would make sense since technically they'll become base.

Sure but it was a stepping point in the right direction, with K&W being a great improvement on the idea.

I agree that DLC for Beastmen or Wood Elves would be a bit much since they're already paid races, but they're among the ones to not get DLC so far. Like you're not going to see DLC for say, Greenskins, or Dwarves. Only Chaos, WE, and BM don't have any DLC yet, so I figure by process of elimination eventually you have to come to them.

Unless of course as said, they do something unexpected like do a Norsca DLC, or Kislev one or something.

In the future they could make certain race packs free for a period, sell DLC for it, and then after package the full faction + dlc to sell at release price.

Models are already in the game, they should be added for free.

However I cant see CA releasing new factions with new units for free alongside a already new faction.

Middenheim needs knights of the white wolf, and the ar-Ulric but I doubt that happening for free.
