I want to get locked in an airtight school and fix her with hope. I'd make shitty homemade pizza for her and stay up late with her watching dumb movies, and feel her cuddle up to me when she can't stay awake anymore. I'd teach her retarded drinking games and show her how to play pool in the rec room.

One night, she silently sneaks over to the kitchen. A shining sliver of a blade extends from her clenched fist when she walks into my room. But her hand stops, centimeters away from my chest, and begins to shake violently. Something is wrong. One by one, her trembling fingers let go of the hilt, and with a soft thud, the knife falls onto the carpet. She throws herself on me and buries her face right where the knife should have gone, Clutching at the fabric of my clothes. Her whole body shakes feverishly and I scoop her body into my arms and tell her that everything will be okay, just like usual. Her silent sobbing turns to wailing that echoes out into the dimly lit corridors beyond the door.

She would finally be cured of despair. Because the only thing she can't analyze is love

I gotta disagree with you there. Rantarou, Kaede, and Ryouma were all really shallow/bland and die too soon to develop much at all. I only put Kirumi above them because she's got a somewhat interesting dynamic with her shift from helper to killer and such.

Tsugumi meanwhile may be intentionally boring but it doesn't stop her from being essentially useless clutter for 4/5ths of the game, and the terribke ending does nothing to improve her imo.

I think the fact/fiction stuff was fumbled by drawing obvious parallels between the situation in the game and real life. Desiring new DR games and enjoying them is totally incomparable to seeking actual killing games to take place, and attempting to use the casts assertion of their "fictional" personalities being "real" to their so as to reinforce the condemnation of the player wanting to play the game just made their personal growth and decision ring hollow for me.
It was a dumb move that feels presumptuous on Kodaka's part to me, both because it hinges upon the player enjoying DR primarily for the scenario and because it's intellectually dishonest to equate fictional characters to people with implanted memories.
I felt the metanarrative entirely collapsed because it was unrelatable to a real life scenario, was hamfisted in its messaging, and largely ended up just invalidating itself due to its premise being flawed.
Also, can't lie, I just fundamentally disagree that the cast's pasts are irrelevant to who they are now and Shuuichi's standing between fact and fiction soeech.

Genius, Kodaka is absolutely genius. The writing is clever and post-modern, with the subtle metacommentary expertly complementing the deconstruction of not only Danganronpa as a game, but Danganronpa as concept. My favorite part was the part when the audience are criticized for enjoying the story in a story-based game and wanting sequels when the game sets up clear sequel hooks. When we SAY we want a resolution to the series, Kodaka says we are ACTUALLY saying "i want infinite danganronpas, the danganronpa must never end lest you be put to death, kazutaka" Truly we, the viewer are nothing more than animals who enjoy Danganronpa for the death we see, which we revel in. The lord (Kodakaa) giveth and he taketh away, in this case taking away the reality of the Danganronpa series, a game within a game, a punishment, a purgatory for the sins of giving Kodaka money for his video games. Spike Chunsoft aka REICH kim jong UNsoft, lead by none other than Satan himself, have ordered the pure and holy writer Kodaka to milk Danganronpa for all it's worth as they count their money. Maki had way more moments with Saihara the entire time. There was also the part when Kaito mentioned if he's gone, Saihara has to rely on everyone such as Maki etc. Then he also mentioned that Maki's impulsive and Saihara can actually hold her back if needed.

This is especially true especially prior to that when Ouma took Kaito hostage, Maki was willing to take on all 5 Eguisaru bots at once, but Saihara held her back even though Maki called Saihara a coward.

Strangely enough, Saihara is the one who went into a slump and completely just didn't gave a shit for 2 days and was gonna just die right there (literally forgetting everything Kaede said ...). Hopebot and Yumeko was also in the same despair position, Maki's literally the only one who rallied up everyone.

At the final investigation scene, Himiko was constantly concerned with how useful she is to everyone. Saihara's interaction with her is more like reassuring a kid that she did a good job more than cooperation like he showed with Maki.
