I mean I was nearly Super Plat before switching from Vega in Season 2 and my reaction speeds are on par with a corpse (roughly 310 ms). I can anti air and stuff dashes consistently but unless I'm really on point I get blown up by mixups a lot. So I try to pay attention to how players respond to what I'm doing to collect data and adjust my offense. So I play Balrog. What do they do after a max range rush punch? Do they jump in? Jab to stuff a follow up? Poke because they don't think I'll press anything? Fireball to start zoning? What should I do in return?

So for your example, with Alex's own rush punch I just pay attention to what they're using it as a response to. After a fireball? After pausing for a couple seconds in the midrange? A lot of times you can bait one just by walking backward. You can also whiff normals when you both are out of range to stuff brash attempts to get in. You could even, say, buffer those pokes into a special move. Like low forward xx Hadoken. That used to be the corner stone of Ryu's gameplan. So you just do that input even if it won't connect and if you happen to hit the startup of his elbow, the hadoken comes out.

Playing purely with reactions is nearly impossible in SFV. Dashes are at the threshold of human reaction speeds now and there's input lag on top of that. You either win with reads or bullshit mixups and braindead confirms

I've bought shittier games for more than 40$ so honestly it's not the price of USF2 that's stopping me, it's the Switch's.

What sold me on the concept of USF2 on Switch is that you can bring it around and one system can accommodate 2 players. Sure it isn't optimal, but when I'm with a buddy and we have some time to kill, I can ask if he wants to play a game and hopefully, if the trailers are right, then we could play a game with little to no setup.

Of course this all means nothing if the Switch ends up being a piece of shit so I probably won't day 1 buy unless they come out with something more convincing. All I've heard about the Switch is not good. Not good at all.

End of the string is a good place to look. Blockstrings in SFV aren't really that long without obvious gaps which should be easier to blow up. Like devils reverse in a blockstring? Easy anti air if you look for it

Sometimes if I dash punch and I know they'll fireball or poke me as a response I'll do stand fierce for the crush counter. Or if they do nothing, I can dash up and throw, so they'll start jabbing me to stop that. It's a matter of reading them.

Yeah, that's when you're likely to start jumping in or doing really unsafe stuff for that hail mary. You could play Urien and just tackle and whiff headbutt into throw and get a stun and be a really good player. Or you could just back off for a while and see how they control space and find an opening there. Stay busy, throwing hadokens from long range, poking, empty dashing, etc. Find something that they can start looking for. The neato burrito thing about SFV is no chip kills without Super, so they HAVE to hit you with something.
