Orlandu already busts the meta. There is nothing that quite does what he does, even in today's JP (except Velius of the Naruto, who does exactly what he does).
Onion Knight is difficult to chain with others and has no imperil, so he's often overrated despite still being bullshit overpowered. The 7-7-7-7-7-7-7 timing really works against him in practice.

Orlandu will always be the top unit in the game, if not one or two places down in some circumstances. He is resistant to powercreep, moreso than JPnoctis could ever be, but you can replace what JPnoctis does.
You can't substitute Orlandu easily.

Being a strong finisher means nothing when the strongest chainer in the game is coming out in a month.

Onion Cutter still has the issue of hitting on every seventh frame, so he drops it with most units before you can cap. And even if you bring a second Onion Knight to chain perfectly with, that leaves you without an imperil (meaning you waste another team slot you probably don't have).

What we need is a new unit with an imperil attack that has a perfect 7frame delay. That would make Onion Knight unquestionably broken as fuck.
That or a healer with healing imperils or something else crazy like that.

Also, just this week we finally got some shit that might beat Orlandu in all cases: Lorain and enhanced Eileen
So I guess he's not STILL immune to powercreep.

That's just untrue. JP Noctis has a ton of tools available and actually WOULD break the game. Orlandu would still have a huge impact on the game if he came afterwards, but that would only make Noctis even MORE impactful rather than lessen his value.
Noctis is pretty much on the same level as Orlandu, he just needs help from people like him to get there. We don't compare units in a vacuum, if we did Orlandu would be meh too because he would have no one to chain with.

Refia - Ramuh

Don't know which Esper to replace for Diabolos and for that matter, which Esper would be the best for which unit.

Luka's Esunaga is part of it, yeah. The other part is having Deep Blue (+45% DEF/SPR, dunno what your buff situation looks like), higher base stats so better survivability, longer sustain thanks to passive hp/mp regen. Regenerate can be useful preemptively too.

It's unclear when Tilith will roll around again. GL has deviated from JP in ways no one could have predicted so far. Part of me thinks we might not even get her 6*. If you want to be frugal on mats, you could be ok with what you have. Bringing along 5* units seems to get riskier and riskier every day, though.

Anon, that shield will drop in a goddamn second even if you have Y'shtola' BSB. If the enemy isn't doing enough damage to break that shield in one or two hits, it's not an enemy worth mentioning.
The thing sucks, it might give you one quick cast tops. It also has no element so it even gets beat in the damage category most of the time among OSBs.

Her damage output is about 83% that of Orlandu's, although the more important thing is she caps the chain just as well as he does.

And that if you have Agrias, you can capitalize fully on Orlandu whale friends.

You only need one, the other one can be a friend unit.

Having DW means you can capitalize on the second half of your whale friend's DW Orlandu chain. It also gives you another chain under the effects of the imperil, making the damage even more than just doubled.

Are they overpriced as fuck? On a semi-related note, I found a copy of Suikoden 2 in a store like that for $190 a couple days ago.
Don't touch XI, but X and XII aren't a bad idea. XII Zodiac Age comes out relatively soon-ish (maybe), and that's a better version, so maybe hold off on XII. I haven't played X-2 but I heard it's fun.
