Why does Attila's historical setting get so much hate?

Maybe because Attila was my first TW, but I think it's an interesting time period and I like it's apocalyptic theme.

99% of all migrator games is just a boring trek through roman land engaging a few roman armies and then fighting romans and roman successors who have the same armies anyway.

Essentially the bigger the main players are at game start, the more boring the setting is to play.

I really fucking love Attila's setting but Rome's setting is still far superior.

I think that's historical accuracy? Sassanids were constantly fighting with ERE until it' end like u said.

Yes it's accurate. I cited the problem and the historical precedence for it. Granted Sassanid and ERE rosters do manage to be different enough in the end, but it still hurts the setting from a gameplay perspective.

I've played both the white huns and the Sassanids, and the white huns are definitely made to prevent Sassanids becoming to op.

But imo the white huns themselves became so OP. They're pretty much huns with better units, and more money. Which is awkward because the white huns got rekt by the Sassanids multiple times IRL

Different campaign dynamics and useful new units. Belegar's campaign plays nothing like the rest of the game, and Skarsnik's campaign is actually enjoyable unlike Grimgor's. Rangers alone add a lot to the Dorf roster, and their Reskins of Renown give you some neat options.

What makes Belegars campaign so different other than it being a handicapped Dwarven campaign? I mean both him and Skarsnik offer a challenge, but Belegar himself plays very much like a regular Dwarf.

Just get cities larger with more defenses, get settlement fights to burn shit down, larger battle maps for multi-stack fights, special/rare unit army caps, larger campaign map to fit more settlements/factions, change the way gear is handled by characters and units (menus to switch my chaos warriors to halberds vs Bretonnia or GW against dwarfs rather than re-recruit).

I could care less about food/squalor or other building slot taxes, not what Warhammer is about. Make some diplomacy changes (VC trickery, Orc intimidation, Empire politics).

I just can't wrap my head around what the point of the Ranger is for the Dwarfs. The unit has pretty much the exact same stats as a Quarreler but to get the most out of them you have to use a Runelord for their red line.

A regular Dwarf Lord though can boost both Quarrelers and Thunderers with the same skill so this is always the better choice, Rangers are straight up useless in a direct comparison.

Why do fucking co-cop campaigns never work right?
Tried to do one in Attila with a friend over the past few days, but we gave up now because we always had desynchronization issues. We basically even live in the same area and have almost identical rigs, so it can't possibly be connectivity/performance issues.

Still the same problems from 5 fucking years ago when we tried a Shogun 2 campaign. Fuck CA.

It often desyncs during end turn and the only solution is to reload and hope for the best. Also when we loaded battles sometimes the message about "Waiting for the other Player" wouldn't disappear and we could do nothing even though we had both loaded in.
Basically we had to restart every 2-3 turns.

Currently playing as winged dude and he fuckin sucks. He's just like all the other casters. Weak as dick with shitty magic. I got a Gorebull asap and he was pretty much always in the same army just so we have one hero worth a damn.

Despite that I am doing very well. Just burned down all of Athel Loren and about to rek the last of Brettonia. I guess if you start with him it might be a lot harder then. My experience with Chaos Spawn is that the first 4 of them are the only ones fighting and no matter how many time you click to attack the other 8 just stand their with their dicks up their arse so Minos much better.

Try out winged brah then, the settlements are quite sparse in badlands but that can be a blessing cos they'll usually be undefended thus easy pickings. Good luck bro.

as satsuma you have the crossing from kyushu to honshu, the british trade node, the french trade node, the path between honshu and shikoku, and the path off the coast of shikoku to defend/attack. It is a pretty chaotic situation, and with how devastating naval bombardments can be to your economy, having a good navy is really important. raiding those trade nodes can get you a ton of income as well, and having a naval barrage on the battle map is really really fun anyway so having naval superiority is pretty much required, might as well play the faction with the most interesting strategic naval gameplay, and frankly the most to gain from it.

every way. It's designed to be slower paced, longer build times, techs, culture conversions. Can't just make an army every few turns and blob like crazy due to how income, population and upkeep works.

If you do play it, give it a few attempts if you fail. Took me a few games to get used to it but it's much better than vanilla.

I wouldn't recommend rome to start, btw. They start at war with an OP as fuck faction in the south and an annoying one in the north while having no immediate counters to either of their units.

Now I feel like I should restart and take responsability for fucking up but screw that, it's Colchis, nobody likes them.

But yeah, DeI 1.2 is pretty fun so far, even though it's obviously buggy sometimes. The AI seems better overall both in campaign and in battles. It's a lot smarter when it comes to diplomacy but it's still possible to get alliances and good deals.

Be careful though, most of that balance goes to shit if you play in harder difficulties, the devs recommend H/N, and it's pretty good that way.

I really like FotS cause the ships are actually somewhat maneuverable and the guns hard hitting. Empire and Napoleon battles were too ponderous and the guns were kinda lame, and don't get me started on Rome and Attila.

Hopefully the speculation about the Victorian era is true and we get turreted ships with super long ranges.

best way to use matchlocks is behind two units of yari in spear wall.

as the enemy overlaps in the center they'll get into a killing zone. Preferably you'll have the matchlocks on a hill but this works on flat terrain too. the yellow line shows the matchlocks half range. the matchlocks moral effects mean the yari will win their fights easily.

Also just because your matchlocks are good, doesn't mean you can neglect bows. Bows will have range and are better as skirmishing. while matchlocks will destroy their infantry. So be careful of enemy armies filled with bowmen.

either way those are the best ways to use matchlocks.

Oh and Nanban trade ships.

3 in a navy will win any battle they enter. you might have to play them manually but its worth it. you'll easily take control of the seas, don't actually use them for trade nodes, use regular trade ships. You nanban trade ships should be sweeping the seas clean and blocking enemy forces from entering Buzan from Honshu

I just had that happen too. I never broke any treaties ever and for whatever reason Hojo has decided I broke their alliance. I went back through my saves and still can't figure out how that happened. I'm really started to think it just gives you arbitrary negative diplomacy just to force wars to happen to pad out the length of the game and hide how fucking terrible the AI is. I posted about this the other day. I was playing Dwarfs, had alliances with all the other Dwarf clans from the beginning of the game. They absolutely loved me, I loved them, everyone was happy. Also allied with the Empire and other manling factions. We were unstoppable. Absolutely creamed the Orcs, Elves, Vamps, Empire lost a lot of land but we also shit pumped Chaos. Then when it was all done and I only had a couple of holds to rebuild, the Empire cancelled our military alliance out of the blue, even though he had land everywhere to rebuild. I didn't think anything of it, then the next turn he declared war on me. He was allies with my Dwarf allies, who also declared war on me for... broken treaties with Empire.

I kinda like Rome 2. Triremes never get old but the battles are samey. I don't like Attila because you pretty much control the Mediterranean and the roman ships aren't really well known enough for me to enjoy them.

Oddly enough Shogun 2 has some of my favourite naval battled because of the amount of variety. Cannons, bow ships,sail ships,boarding ships they all make an appearance.

FotS is excellent too. Empire/Napoleon I don't like because wind is s bitch and ships of the line are just more guns and that's it.

I use an economy mod that makes resource production buildings give more dosh, or give dosh to begin with, but the tech as VC can help soften the diplomatic aversion, and giving gifts to a faction or killing their enemy can help open up a NAP, which can easily lead to a trade agreement if you don't piss 'em off.

Nevermind, after testing pendulum is way better. Turns out the ultimate campaign doomstack is 3-4 units from your faction with both the highest melee defense and shields. Make them super tiny squares, then get a mounted lord and spam mounted wizards with lore of shadows and arcane conduit. The AI for whatever dumb ass reason will not flank your units and will instead charge into the front of your units creating a massive fucking blob. One pendulum because it travels 200 god damn meters (make sure to deploy it slightly before where you want it to start, it doesn't apply damage right away unlike winds of death) will result if you're fighting say skarsnik with loads of gobos could net your wizard 400-600 kills and instantly route the entire army. If it doesn't you can spam arcane conduit and yet again be able to overcast another one. The combined moral from all your heroes and lord will mean your units pretty much never break.

It's usually not that hard to force an ai off a hill in Shogun 2 if you a decent number of archers. Just mass them all on one flank and overwhelm a unit of 2 of his archers. Keep doing this until you have archer superiority, at which point the AI will come off their hill because they figure its now certain death to play defensive against you

I've had countless desync problems in Shogun 2 co-op. Fall of The Samurai was a lot better, but I didn't play co-op much in it, I experienced desync issues considerably less though.

In 3 TWW campaigns I have experienced 3 instances in like 40-50 hours where a loading timer loops and gets stuck, but it's just loading the turn auto save or something like that, never really fucks games over like the old desyncs did and theyre a lot less frequent.

How are you setting up your economy? the trick to making money is the find provinces with high base wealth (either from high base town wealth, having goldmines, or very fertile farmlands), and then concentrating growth in these provinces by upgrading markets (and roads and ports), and then placing Metsukes in them (trained for overseeing town). Mortis Engine is extremely good.

Strigoi Ghoul King is very good.

Corpse Carts are pretty good, though they get straight up replaced by Mortis Engines in terms of functionality in the late game. The best thing about them is that Necromancers can use them as mounts.

Flagellants are good in the early game but not much in the late game.

Free Company are amazingly useful in the early game, but being a tier 1 unit they obviously fall off rather hard.

Knights of the Blazing Sun are a bit of a fluff unit, good against vamps and Wood Elves but otherwise not different enough from Reiksguard to bother going out of your way for.

Arch-Lectors are pretty decent, though I personally prefer generals.

The Regiments of Renown vary in usefulness.

I've found them to be quite useful. I'd say they're much more useful than the Empire units.

Corpse carts basically give off aoe regeneration and combat buffs. freeing up your lords to go into combat without having to baby sit your lines. Plus they can be a necromancer mount to you can get those buffs plus magic.

Mortis Engine's work in a similar way. They heal but instead of giving your troops a combat buff they deal damage to enemy units around them. Combat wise they're just ok but that damage aura is quite useful.

Strigoi Ghoul King's are interesting, they're a tough lord but they also have basically the best spells from the lore of Death/Vampires. And instead of summoning skeletons or Zombies they instead can summon Crypt ghouls/horrors.

Otomo is one of the easiest factions early in the game since your matchlocks just blast everybody away.
Things get even better once you get Tercos and Nanban trade ships later on.
