The Zoras canonically evolved into bird people. Unlike the Gorons, they were gone. This trailer has both bird people and Zora. The world map has landmarks, statues and buildings of the child timeline.

100 years ago something happened. I say that's where the timelines were merged.

The dozens of references and unique elements of the adult timeline make it unquestionable that it's part of the game. The least likely line to be included is downfall. They either left downfall alone or considered the 'ruin' in the plot to be the unique mark of that line.

Anyway, pictures like yours are what tell me that we get a full merge.

Evolution of species to change from one to another due to a drastic change in their environment happens over thousands of years and for video game sake 100s of years. It just wouldn't work if this was set in that barracket.

Also one key thing to remember is that one of the resources you can collect that is EVERYWHERE in this game is Red Sea Salt. Which would imply that a large body of water has disappeared and created Red Sea Rock Salt.

I couldn't tell you. There are just far to many things that contradict it being before and after OoT. We also have a extremely Rusted Master Sword that's broken into pieces, we've had Master Swords before that were left in the stone for hundreds of years to be pulled and still be in ok condition.

If you notice in the newest Trailer, Zelda is placing a fairly fresh looking Master Sword in the cutscene but we ourselves seem to be using a fucking broken/rusty one. You'd only see that kinda bullshit in the Declining Era

Oh I know, and I agree with you. But for this game to be, between OoT and before WW seems a little far-fetched with all those different races there at once. Ganondorf's Great Flood seemed to have happened almost instantly with "magic" and what have you, or at least in a very fast event maybe over a few years. Drastic changes in race makeup and abilities don't happen over night and they only occur after something happens to help them adapt and that can take thousands of years (looking at it from a real life perspective here). For video games you can shorten that exponentially but if you say it was all done in a 100 years that would be silly as fuck.

So to me it looks like it might be yet another timeline, an alternate universe, or set far after Spirit Tracks. And I want to make something clear, right now, my only proof holding me back from the idea it being before WW is for the comments at the one Nintendo Tree House conference when they were demoing it, talking about resources and stating that "Red Sea Salt Rocks" appear everywhere in the game, or a large portion of the game. If this is the case, then that would imply this is sometime after Spirit Tracks and Wind Waker, after the flood receded

Figured I'd post my old pasta since these threads are back up post your ideas too g-guise

I'm a serious Majoras Mask fag so I'd definitely bring masks back. I even have an autistic paste on what I'd do specifically. Don't take this as necessarily made with BotW in mind. I like BotW, don't get me wrong, but if the game after would do a somewhat return-to-formula (MM isn't exactly the formula but still) with of course a small smattering of the good ideas BotW introduces, then I'd be happy.
Or, go ahead and assume my pasta intended for this gen and alter accordingly (masks instead of runes ect.):

A simplistic idea but I would have an increase in the total mask number from what it was in MM.
The cool part however; is that I would also introduce the "Face Sword". This guy would also double as the classic companion character. A sword that has a blank face on its guard that the various masks in the game could be equipped to, giving it various powers and puzzle solving utilities. The game would be gloriously difficult in places where you had to nimbly switch between masks both on Link and the sword in a very short span of time to use the very subtle effects each variety imparts in a given situation.
>One mask to raise a cube of earth from the ground, then a fire mask to strike only the left side of that cube (aim carefully), a time-slow mask on Link so you can run to the other side before the fire runs out, and put the bunny hood on the sword whose now-fast thrusts are the only thing that can hit every puzzle slot in time.
Have enemies in certain challenge modes/areas require things like this as well.

The best part; not only would you have unique masks different from MM (bring back the old must-haves of course) you'd also get to actually place the masks on your SWORD at the same time, granting you elemental transformations, puzzle-solving utilities, and other abstract stuff. Maybe replace the Ocarina by having a legendary "Bard Mask" that you must acquire that you then place on your sword to gain the song making mechanic. Put it on Link to -learn- the various songs throughout the game. Put it on the sword to -play- the songs. You can even use 2 masks at once by equipping one on Link, one on the sword. Best part is that the Transformation masks (of which I'm thinking 5 instead of 3) will change the instrument depending on the race.
Heck even have the minor masks add these purely aesthetic aesthetic -slight- musical/visual alterations (or even with a tiny puzzle solving potential) to the base instrument. I also have an idea for another mask category other than transformation. 'Summon Masks'. The only one of which I have thought up is Midna's Fused Shadow. Putting it on summons Imp Midna. Put it on the sword; True Midna. Midna + Bard-Sword would even give her a Twili instrument to play instead of you.
This would be how the optional pick-a-companion thing some people are clamoring for would operate. Tons of waifu potential, had idea for a mechanic grill that would use a bunch of gadgets including a mortar to rain hell from, the back while you charge the front. Pretty much pic related.

Each summon character, lets use Midna as an example, would have two modes: contextual and companion (mask on Link and Sword respectively). Midna in Imp from would do her action like playing a Twili instrument among others then go away. Putting a Summon mask on Face would bring True Midna with dual Twili scimitars or some shit and would follow you "Hey I'll carry yo shit" style. May or may not deprive you of your sword, dunno.
There would be two special masks; one would be the Bard Mask and, surprise surprise, Majoras Mask. I plan on having Fierce Diety be the antag so a fun little gimmick in having the final mask you collect be obtained in the same way you got FD in MM would be kickass. You know everyone and their grandma wondered what it'd be like for Link to don Majoras Mask so now they can. It'd be limited where you could put it on but just boss battles was kinda gay so it could have rare uses in the creme-de-la-creme of sidequests, challange modes and puzzles.

Visually black and neon-blue looking. Think loosely similar to some of the vistas in Metroid Prime 2 Echoes.

The Sheikah are tech savy but not enough to into space. However they can into Magitek enough to implant miniature worlds into books in their great Arcane Library (how the temple would be accessed, maybe even a tiny pre-dungeon)
A book that makes a fictional commentary on the technology of the future is on a sacred pedestal, there because it's the librarian's favorite tome or something, in the back of the Library.
The book would suck you in an Link would be transported to
a literal Temple in space orbiting the planet (a few visual quirks to indicate the fictional nature of the realm). Very "Sheikahpunk" in terms of the various tech strewn about the level.

Mask/Rune that allows you to jump positions in space but only once set conditions are met. That and/or a special/arrow type. It'd be neat to have more arrows than just fire/ice/light. Maybe Electirc and Dark + others?

It wasn't comfy because of nostalgia or the small scope, it was comfy because at the time the scope wasn't small at all and a lot of mechanics and attention put into environments really brought the game to life. NPC schedules, heart collecting, minigames, and the general journey finding your gear made it good. I still very clearly remember playing the game as a kid, no nostalgia was there obvs.

BOTW looks like a crazy journey with lots of cool stuff to find but we haven't seen how fun collecting hearts are and as far as I'm aware they haven't shown any Zelda-like minigames.

I had wanted to do some surveying on /v/, the campus video game club and probably even reddit into what peoples' favorite LoZ game was to consider in my essay but I'd never made the time. I like the creative approach with masks, but you have to pay respects to 'intended use of objects'. Masks, that are not used as masks, become less than they are. It's basically the same with any object.

How do you feel about the 'bomb arrows'? I think they appeared in TP first. Did you feel good about them? To me, while interesting for puzzles and such, they were horrible. They were part of the approach to banish all magic from the player's inventory. Bomb arrows made me realize that one has to be careful with objects and use cases. The idea of attaching a bomb on an arrow head is plain silly.

If you want to go deeper on masks, keep using them as masks. If want to expand their use, try to narrow it to their core functions. MM's transformation masks work so well because one of 'masks' most basic, most ancient uses was to turn shamans into mystic figures that provided guidance for their tribes.

You may not be able to 'mask' your sword, but maybe you can find a similar approach that meets the basic functions of a mask and yet is innovative enough to fit your gameplay framework?

What I have seen so far is that even the handheld version runs smoother than the Wii U.

Before the Switch presentation, I had my mind made up about already getting the game on the Switch. But now I don't really know anymore. Paid online, small game lineup, and how they are trying hard for another Wii like success really ruined hype for the system. Anyone else know this feel?

And I have been an adult for several console launches and by now realize that this is an okay launch. It ALWAYS takes a while for a good number of games to come out.

And more than anything I want to play Zelda between work and my night classes without having to go home in between. Can't do that with the Wii U.
