Yeah, I had to do it that way too before I learned the timing.
The ASW input interpreter which requires motion first and button after and not at the same time + preventing a jump is pretty tough but it's possible.
It's much easier to connect that thing in combos though.

Yeah, seems quite a strict timer. I had the "sample input" on and I noticed it was going back to neutral before pressing a button, but I was not managing. I'm not going to play Jack-O, but wanted to check the specials of all characters and I got stuck in that one.

They hoped Resurrection would sell the same numbers as MvC2 and SFII HD, but Darkstalkers was never as popular as those games so they didn't think DS4 would be profitable. It's a stupid business strategy, but it's probably better they don't make a new one anyway. SFV is trash, none of their old talent is working for Capcom anymore, and Darkstalkers is a very rich series in 2D. Translating it to 3D would probably not go well because Capcom wouldn't put in the proper effort.

Beginner here who just got SFV. What are good characters to use as a beginner?

Also, are there any simple but important tips you guys can give me? Like should I be playing footsies alot, ex moves on wakeup if I'm getting combo'd, when should I execute long combos?

From experience in previous fighting games, I just know that you'll get rocked if you keep trying to combo the enemy and not use basic moves to get your timing right to start the combo

With Cammy you just have to eat 2 combos to die, whereas with anyone else it's 3. A newbie will have a better time playing as a more durable character because it gives them more chances and they don't have the knowledge and ability to use the tools that the low hp character has to trade off for their health points.

I feel Karin is too unique in her inputs and rekkas and v-trigger specific combos. Guile is a solid choice for anyone willing to make the extra step required to play a charge character.
Frankly, Ryu is the best choice for anyone new. There's no excuses. That doesn't mean he is the only choice.
Go ahead and play Zangief or Ibuki or Balrog if you like and you may even find them more comfortable to play than Ryu and learn more quickly.

what you're referring to is its combo system
basically in KI characters have an opener, linker (often the same as the opener) and ender (special move with heavy button), with doubles (press normal button) in between
light doubles are quicker but fill the combo gauge more (combo ends when the combo gauge is filled) while heavy attacks do more damage but are easier to break of
to perform a combo breaker the defender has to hit punch+kick buttons of the corresponding strength of the attacker.
if they get it wrong they are locked out of trying again.

so the attacker is trying to build up a powerful combo but the more damage you get it on, the easier it is to break.
much of the damage in a combo comes from finishing it with an ender so if it breaks early it won't do the potential damage that it could

In VSAV the pushblock requires mashing/pianoing and unless you can input 6 inputs during a blockstun it's not even guaranteed.
This guarantees it on the next block after a knockdown.
Imagine playing GG or BB and your FD/barrier didn't work half of the time and the input for it was mashing all the buttons.

I bought it during the PSN sale just to fuck around with character combos and story mode (which btw only has English voices for some reason), then checked online and there was literally NO ONE online at any time. To AG in Vsav you need to piano inputs, the more inputs the greater the chance of AG coming out, 6 Inputs is guaranteed.

This lets you *store* inputs if you failed AG attempts provided you dont return to neutral.


It literally changes nothing, its unpractical and unsafe (strength of buttons determine pushblock distance) for example if someone baits out a regular AG attempt 9 times out of 10 its going to result in a whiffed jab, where as if this gets baited its most likely going to result in a whiffed fierce or roundhouse.

It might be semi useful for mid level players still learning how to pushblock in specific situations, but other than that its not much use.

Mika is viable. She doesn't have fireball but it's made up for by the fact that she has a lot of tools up close and for approaching. Your s.HK is projectile invincible when you're in the air, your Jump down MP can delay your fall so you can make your opponent whiff the anti-air. Your EX Shooting Peach has one hit of armor while advancing a large amount of horizontal distance.

What I'm saying is, Mika is strongest when the opponent is cornered hence your opponent will try their best to not get cornered and this usually involves playing the keep-away game. It is your job to get in.

Most sfv youtube channels suck. They just upload any match with a well known player regardless of the quality of the match.

What used to happen when sfiv matches were uplaoded frommatches captured inarcades is that the quality of the match had to be good regardless of who was playing so they were always enjoyable to watch.

Blackvegeta and yogaflame24 used the same standards but they don't like sfv so they don't upload any more.

The new sfv youtube channels like Xuses GB and DeadacesBS just find matches with a top player add some sitty editing and upload regardlesss of quality.

People like to feel strong, it's not a hard concept to grasp. The best fighting game are the ones when you put your character in the best of his conditions against the opponent who also gets his character in its strongest potential.

"Honesty" as in fighting game design is just straight and simply BORING. When you play a different character from the one your opponent chose you already make the game not "honest", since you fuck up the 1:1 ratio.
