Well i play with CR so my hunters either have bows or Imperial weapons that dont use ammo.
All of my pawns haul at least pistol and backup melee or AK47 and backup pistol with tac vests and backpacks and i have some weapons in the storage.
Why would you want your pawns to go unarmed ? Penalties for hauling weapon are not that big.

I just tried the burning using a heated maze. This gave an average pawn 40% heatstroke to get through. Serious heatstroke starts at 35%.

Don't fight the mechanoids when the come out unless you have the fire power to pound them INSTANTLY.

Scythers are the main culprit behind mech attacks, that and fighting centipedes in close range where their weapons are most effective. I suggest hauling your batteries and turrets (if you use them) and setting up defenses around the ship. That, or sniping at it from a distance with snipers or mortar shells so you can force the mechs to leave the ship and attack your base. In that case, the scythers come first since they are faster than the mechs. They are the most deadly but are not tanky.

You could also set up around 10-15 IEDs around the ship so that when they pop out they get BTFO'd. It's costly, but it's the most effective. It's one more reason to settle near an outlander settlement so you can buy components.

vegetable garden adds 'garden soil' and 'tilled soil', that are 120% and 160% respectively, which you have to use fertilizer (basically a grown plant in a special compost bin) to create. Tilled soil also takes a lot of work to make, and you have to research them first. Even then, 160% might be a bit strong. I actually thought it was 140% until I checked just now, which would put it on par with rich soil. Realistically, if you add a shitload of fertilizer to soil and till it, it's going to be better than just naturally found rich soil, but you can always just take a minute to lower the values if you think it's too strong. Don't know of any mods that just add fertility to soil by tilling it. The one which just instantly gives you 200% fertility with barely any effort at all, wherever you want, is blatantly overpowered though.

Vegetable garden is pretty good about that. It's not exactly what you describe, top tier tilled soil is slightly better than rich soil, and it ignores the original state of the soil, but it requires a shit ton of resources and work to lay down, so it'll take a few years of dedicated work before you can till your entire farmland to that level.

Though quite honestly, if you mix fertiliser into soil and till it its going to be much more bountiful than any naturally found rich soil.

I'm just having a hard time seeing how you can be fucked by the electronics working for a short while, unless you're on extreme arctic or extreme desert. And even then you have some leeway with campfires/passive coolers.

I find Reddit on average to be cancerous garbage, far worse than what most people attribute to the tumblr meme. Not too far from 4chan, though we pretend to own up to it. I think the "holier than thou" attitude that many of the big subreddits have on different sites is pretty irksome. I browse reddit mostly because it has some good content, though I prefer the community in 4chan, despite it's reputation offsite. We're pretty comfy.

That being said, before we stir up some drama, /r/rimworld is a great subreddit. A "bit" hugboxxy because the dev posts there and "you can't say bad things to the dev :(((" but a pretty good place for advice, content, etc.

I dunno, this will be my first harvest. You can bulk smelt 64 leaves for 16 steel, 34 work. So, it really depends how many leaves I get. I doubt it's going to overwhelm me with steel unless I get a whole shitload of these farms going, seeing as 16 leaves is like, less than half a single block of mined steel. But at this point the only steel on the map is a couple of veins all the way on the other side, and presumably hidden in the mountain, so I'm seeing how it goes.

The wiki claims they are omnivorous, so go with that. Check their info in game, since I know that some animals do not eat hay like dogs.

Harvesting always seems to be the better way to feed things haygrass. When an animal eats a plant they eat everything in one go, but since haygrass is high yield you are better off harvesting.

Any mods out yet that adds containers? Even in DF you could make pots that would contain a lot of beer and other stuff.

I hate having to mine out football stadium size rooms just to store 30x of clothing of each type for selling.

I hear the stack size increasing mods just break easily and cause crashes and need mod libraries to even work so it has a dependancy library.

I like to think that they're the remnants of a very old colony, which has mostly eroded/weathered away by now. You can find ruined buildings but the tomb is still intact because it was purpose built to house and hide the cryptosleep chambers and wasn't attacked when the old colony finally hit a death spiral. The soldiers within were waiting on a replacement surgeon for their grievous wounds, but the hammer that struck the final blow arrived at the colony before a new doctor did.
