If i die i can't say it was RNG or bullshit mechanics that got me it was my own fault for dying because i am in control of how i climb i can go shooter, take them on from a distance or go defender tank that shit and just rely on my health absorption decals to get me higher maybe even striker where i go full DPS with close combat and deal good damage while still having a decent amount of HP.

You can really see the difference in fighter classes and that's something i didn't expect.

Hell, I beat Jackson with a fucking pickaxe (not +) and one transparungus.

The trick is to value your mushrooms. Don't waste your fun fungus on gear that you're exploring in. Keep a set for bosses that you don't touch otherwise. That one set will not require you to get more than 2 fun fungus for the entirety of 31+

People say 21-30 is the grindfest where you get stuck grinding for black, but after wasting a bunch of time grinding, I eventually just got fucking impatient and killed every boss in the area with a few dropped spears and some shrooms. Either transparungus or slowshrooms, which again, I only used on bosses, and in the end needed about... 2 total, JIN-DIE and Crowley, didn't use any on GOTO or COEN.

It feels like you need to grind, but you really just don't, and the time you spend grinding is basically just testing your patience until you realize you never needed to do it in the first place, or like the other guy, get upset and quit, thinking the game was locked behind some wall he conjured up in his own imagination.

As i have said, i made it to floor 28 or 29, and yes i died, but i didn't immediately uninstall the game in a fit of rage, i loaded it up the next day and started grinding for kill coins, the alternative would have been to go kill my haterfied fighter and lose all the gear. Anyways, the higher floor you reach the more dying sets you back, for example, i bought 3 Rank 2 +4 Hot Irons to beat Goto on floor 23 and then climb to floor 25, which by the way was artificially gated into waiting around for 90 minutes, because i can only buy one Iron every 30 minutes. Great! Then Goto was such a retarded health sponge, even with Sting shrooms that 1 of my irons already broke during that fight, and then i had to climb the 2 remaining floors with the other 2 left, by the time i reached 25 all my shit was about to break and i had to patiently fistfight single mobs for half an hour until i fucked up when i encountered a hater that proceeded to kill my in a single sword combo through my healthshroom.

As to what kind of mechanics are negated by shrooms, obviously you don't have to bother with actually looking out for anything if you eat transparangus and can just wail on the boss, except if it's Coen, Guardshrooms just make health irrelevant, and in thread after thread people state that you should just go Attacker since health is irrelevant anyways.

Are these enough explanations? I just don't think the tradeoff is worth it.

EVERY mmo has some luck based randomness to it though and there are a great many way worse about it than Let it die.

You can easily grind lower floors to get all the money you need for a salvage. Many people do this shit daily but the only exception to this is thinking you should be above the system they have in place. It should definitely be easier to salvage your characters, I agree, but you can't blame the game for your sheer apathy towards everything my man.

This is a more substantial post, thank you for making it, even though I disagree with you.

From what you describe of your experiences 23+ it sounds like you're playing a grade 3 Collector, GOTO on Striker with 2* +4 Iron with a stingshroom should not take more than one iron if you have high strength, for instance.

Playing as an attacker is only really viable once you reach grade 5 characters, it's not that health is irrelevant, it's that even attackers have enough to survive a few hits thanks to repair shrooms and dropped high tier armor at that point, and of course guardshrooms for bosses (which I don't even use anymore, they're kind of unnecessary at a certain point, either due to armor or just learning the boss patterns).

The thing is, playing an offensively oriented character becomes important for climbing, it makes scavenged weapons last longer as you're killing enemies in fewer hits. There's also taking things really slow to make your shit last even longer - flame longswords are particularly valuable because of fire damage, hit an enemy once and then just punch them, the burn and punches will probably shred their gear, letting punches finish the job easier. Same with the poison claw.

And of course, the overall 'lesson' - your characters aren't that important. When a character dies high up, you have plenty more. If you have the resourced stockpiled to salvage, and it's even worth it, hooray. If not, just move on to the next - be prepared for losses, cause they'll happen: bullshit or even a fucking stupid bug will rob you of a character at some point.

And I guess I'll refer back to my previous posts, the grind is paranoia, and only really becomes 'core-content' post-game. You having gotten an iron to 2* +4 is enough to already beat the game.

The salvaging of fighters isn't even my main issue, it's mostly just that you go through the inconvenience of collecting a bunch of shrooms and sitting in elevator loading screens for a long time to prepare for the climb, but the experience you're rewarded with isn't really satisfying as the use of those shrooms results in just you cheesing the content. I don't think anyone here would ever dare to attempt the floor 40 boss without cheese shrooms. Mainly because the risk is too high, but using them also makes it just a cakewalk.

That's an absolutely shitty design decision. Not a critical one but it's just bad
I did beat the game and grinding for it probably wasn't worth it albeit I still did it and am still playing the game in hopes it becomes better.
Regarding the mechanics, the bosses are either damage sponges or die in 1-3 hits. There also are only 4 bosses, 8 if you're generous. And none of them are challenging but you have to grind them as busywork just to upgrade your shit. Weapons degrade quickly which discourages exploration of the combat system even though it's pretty fun. It is somewhat remedied by hobo shit you get but given the neverending problem of storage you usually don't keep the hobo gear, rather sell it and have more space for that bone metal you will get to use in some very distant future.
Mushrooms completely trivialize most of the game while of course being a finite resource you have to spend idle or non-progress time to acquire That's not a good balance because the game is punishing enough that you'd rather grind and abuse the mushrooms and eliminate most of the difficulties or challenge completely than get good.

I think the central problem here is that you (and many others I've seen) think it's cheesy. I think the whole point of the game is resource management. The actual DOING is not so difficult compared to other similar games. It's about planning, being careful because you're in constant danger (armor degration, haters every level, and the meaningful deaths are the main mechanics that do this), and executing your plan.

It's like Oregon Trail but with more undead and shit. It's a particular, different kind of enjoyment to your typical action RPG fare.

I feel this is a serious problem the game has in regards to keeping new players engaged. You can go into bosses on naked grade 1 characters to learn them and get good, but that's not really something the game encourages. It even discourages it via elevator fees, since you're essentially throwing away a double fee to go back down, make a freebie character, then go back up to feed your freebie to the boss, rinse and repeat that process X times until you feel comfortable.

You're also not guided to maintain multiple characters, even though you should due to the nature of deaths and how immediate they can be.

But yeah, high crit can be good with certain weapons (some anon here is very fond of it with welding gun), it generally leads to lower damage overall than using an offensive class like Striker/Shooter/Attacker.

That's a valid point, but I feel anything that costs KC will naturally discourage a player from pursuing it unless it directly increases their immediate power.

People will try to go further and do longer runs because of elevator fees, they'll naturally gravitate towards weapons that last longer for research due to the cost of buying them, etc etc.

Buying new characters every time you reach a new tier, and leveling them up seems more like a waste of time than insurance for most players, both due to creating backups taking their immediate power backwards. Then there's the fact that most players associate with one character and will do their best to maintain that one character, it's the same reason people call Souls games hard: they consider dying to be a major setback, as if it was an old Mario game and their lives are limited.

I'm rambling and a lot of it is my assumptions on player behavior/inclinations, so you know, salt city.

Range is bad on AI. They constantly move without firing at times because they don't know how to deal with close range. Even then if you get close and strafe and shot you'll win. Katana's a bad AI controlled weapon though it's too slow and the AI doesn't abuse it.

I get what you're saying and I've been in those situations where I climbed and cleared too many floors and all 3 kamas I was carrying broke, I kept getting hit and didn't have any health consumables left, my armor was gone and I was running through floors with enemies like 10-15 levels higher than me just trying my fucking hardest to make it back to the middle elevator so I could go back to the waiting room and restock. But you know what? That was the most fun I've had in this game, I had to use every single scavenged item, getting a rare food item and actually consider if I should eat this now or to top off my half full hp, had to use weapons ive never even touched because i didn't want to whittle down my knife so i could save my one damage dealer for a harder foe. The shit was intense, I was sneaking around and waiting for moments to slam a hunter. It was like I was playing an actually decent metal gear game.

I understand completely but I didn't want to die and have to grind KC to salvage so I did everything in my power to keep from dying. I adapted and I know for a fact it made me a much better player in the end. Let it die made me a much better player because of those situations. The gear is going to break, plans are going to fail but in the end you still have a chance because you have a brain to figure shit out and adapt to situations you didn't even think you could surpass. Ever since then I can take out haters that are even up to 50 levels higher than me when one shot weapons like the Duke sniper without even breaking a stride. Grade 4s are at 25 and you can rush them now with the current rotation. Doing this will make the 21+ a lot easier especially with GOTO on F23.

You can run past most of the enemies on Toyokawa since it's a side floor, but it's up to you.
