I'm stuck on the "Defeat an ochu with an esper" achievement in Mystic Woods in Olderion. Ochu has 150k hp and a friend's maxed 2* ifrit only does like 2000 hp worth of damage. How am I supposed to get it that low without killing it?

Every other event is GRINDQUEST: THE GRINDING, but that just means that every other event on the opposite beat is one-and-done.
You'll get enough resources to ascend units as they come without too much investment and it really doesn't take much time to get a unit to level 100. Obviously once you do, they stay there.
It is a little "pay to win" if you mean "can I spend $70000 and get the best units", but actually the gacha for the best characters is pretty unforgiving. However, the welfare squad (Cecil, Exdeath, Refia, Chizuru, Cloud of Darkness) can handle most things and most F2P can get them easily.

I feel like you could get a lot of mileage out of Snow's BSB since it gets a damage boost depending on how many people aren't KO'd, plus the Ailette is weak to ice. Vanille is really good for this raid, so if you have Growth Eggs left over to boost her to 80 (and maybe even grab her MC3 while you're at it), she could probably do a good job at the backrow thing and you could probably carry your weight in Apocalypse.

The current crop of U+ shit can be annoying but they all have tricks to them. Power Breakdown the Shield Dragon and kill it first, Magic Breakdown Exdeath's Soul while you do that. Bartz tends to use Blue Mage Missile Salvo twice or more in the opening so wait it out before triggering any group heals, then ready one at around 75% and 40% because he uses Trueblade of Legend and Light of the Four then, and dispel his Haste.

Isgebind is a lot more annoying than Bartz from experience which is why I figured I may as well explain V Ultimates as well. Chudo-Yudo is easy but Isgebind has a bad habit of getting Sheet of Ice procs that can ruin your run. Apart from that blast him with fire or DPS to win.

As for using Vanille, even if you have DMT / MM on her that doesn't mean you need to burn it ASAP, it's just that it's there for insurance once the painful parts of a raid come and you're not sure if you can build the gauge up reliably before then.

Mathematically the best stamina / rounds rate is 2 stamina / 3 rounds as opposed to 1 / 1, so either Zanarkand / Mist Cave or the first stage of any event dungeon is the best RM grind spot. To my knowledge native realms don't boost drop rate, they just make it a pain in the ass to grind realm-specific ones.

In a vacuum then, it depends on if that 40% ATK compares to another Excalibur (22 ATK over Sakurafubuki). This should still be a "yes" for most high end units, extra for Gilgamesh.

Mirage Vest seems a little bonkers and Mercedes TM is a water weapon while they said you need a lightning based attack. Nobody is going to farm up for machine killer.

It might have been "Lightning" as in the Unit. At the time of the JP event, Lightning was the only big 6* Physical damage unit, so using it to carry you through, and to kill the Doublicorn with a team full of bonus units.

The Mirage Vest is suggested because it seems like the Doublicorn hits pretty hard. Not only that, the Doublicorn does not attack unless you attack it. Defending will eventually cause the Doublicorn to leave the battle (or you can Smoke Ball or Escape away). Edge's +40% Ninja Ability Damage is a good RM. Kuja's "start with 60-count Doom" can be good for Darkness users.
Sephiroth's +30% physical damage when equipped with a Katana is fine if you have some good Katanas.
Papalymo's is a good all-purpose MAG boost with no real drawbacks considering how common Rods are.
Serah's is also a lesser Devotion; +!5% MAG -10% DEF or something like that?

What a fucking mess that was, I literally just held circle for a few minutes while the camera clipped through everything and spazzed out. I then just clipped through the beast and bounced along it's skin sometimes.

The first 3 games don't have a lot of story substance. But if you're looking for something to do with decent challenge go for it. FF2's dungeons suck pretty bad though, and FF3's job system is very primitive compared to FF5, there's even a penalty for switching classes for a few battles.
