Play Ironman. It's crazy how pant-shittingly exciting something as simple as clearing a room, or navigating an anomaly field is when you know that dead means dead. You'll never get that "I'm too powerful and now I'm bored" feeling with Ironman. If anything, the intensity is ratcheted up as you get better gear since you REALLY don't want to lose it, and one mistake can have you eating shit. You can also roleplay what it would really be like to be in the zone, and you can have a lot of fun with it, something that's just not possible when you know you can fall back to a save should things go south and you take a dirt nap. Create a short backstory for your character, make some goals that you want to accomplish, and take it from there. Think of all the countless stalkers that died in the zone, and what their stories were. In Ironman, you aren't the protagonist, you're just another random asshole.

Of course, that requires imagination, so if you're too casual for Ironman and completely lack imagination, try something like Call of Misery. It's boring, it's tedious, it's artificially difficult, and the entire goal is to keep you from reaching the "I'm too powerful and now I'm bored phase", but hey, at least you'll still be able to savescum.

Is there any way for me to bulk edit the weapon files in AO or do I have to just go through them all individually? For example, if I want to increase recoil or damage by x% is there a way for me to do so across all the individual files at once?

checking the amk.script side by side, there are a handful of changes, mostly lines omitted from the "no anti-cheat" version. the anti-cheat one is over a year older (may 2014 vs december 2015) from version 2.06 instead of 2.09, so i don't know how many of the changes are related to that since there are a bunch of lines removed that are seemingly unrelated to cheating, like grenades or flame ammo and shit and the 2.06 download link is dead so i can't compare apples to apples.

there is a line that says "checkforcheat" and has extra stuff added in the "no anti cheat" version, but i don't know how to read that language to see what it's doing. there are also some lines removed about db.actor, so maybe it's checking and then flagging if the actor.ltx is being loaded from gamedata instead of packed in the db.

Questgivers dying is a thing, but getting a quest to kill a guy and having the target get killed on his own a minute or so later is also a thing. There's some give and take, but it makes the zone feel so much more alive.

You can sneak into rather easily, grenade one of the checkpoints at night and move through the entire area quietly, you probably will have to take down 2 Dutyers at the Bar itself, so always bring a weapon with a suppressor.

Never save there, kill checkpoint guards, sneak in, kill the 2 Dutyers, buy stuff from Barkeep, then exit the way you came.

Why not give the Veles to eggheads and very high ranking stalkers with SEVA suits?

The regular Loners on the other hand could spawn with Echo and Bear detectors. Actively poaching researchers and Loners or looting from their corpses should be the most likely ways of finding detectors.

I don't really think detectors should be found in stashes, as stalkers wouldn't really leave a detector behind, what would also make sense would be removing rifles and tools from them.

Generally stashes should contain provisions, food, medical supplies, ammunition, a handgun or artifacts and money.

The thing about this is that most stashes can't physically contain them. However, there are a lot of carbines with folding stocks, SMGs, and sawed off shotguns that could possibly fit in a backpack.

Since the stash system is random, we should assume that most of the weapons on average should be ones large enough to fit in a backpack with a handful of supplies.

I don't think that if Ivan found a really good rifle he would stash it, he would keep it. This principle also applies to detectors, I wouldn't expect to find a Veles detector in a stash, a Bear or an Echo maybe, but a stalker that found a Veles would likely carry the thing everywhere so it would spawn on his corpse.

The way I see most stashes is that they are things a stalker has left in a certain area that they later want to go and pick up on their way back to.

So this often means treasure with a few leftovers, provisions and a sidearm for self defense if low on ammo. In the flavor text of most of the games they're noted as a sort of insurance.

My main one is in Dead City in the large building in the SE part of the map, I think it may have been a school. it's on the second floor and the stairways are mined, I still need to separate it out into different stashes there for weapons, ammo, and supplies.

I also need to take some stuff out of it and spread out my stuff to more maps.

The commie blocks are all excellent sniper spots, I used to use the one immediately left of the Merc base while I was a Merc for picking off bandits because it has an excellent line of sight south to the building they spawn on.

It's a great place to stay because it's a map with a lot of activity and intense fighting, so if you barricade yourself in a place that's safe you can wait things out and loot like crazy.

On an unrelated note, I made my stash in Jupiter in the house at the north of the radioactive village and was disappointed to find out that it isn't protected from blowouts, so I'm thinking of moving my stuff there either south to the bunker under Volkhov, or the Cement Plant.

The one place that I really want to move my main stuff to is the mine in the Red Forest, since it has one entrance that is easily defendable and can be mined, and it has an anomaly field adjacent, while being a useful crossroads to the Northern maps.

For a cut map it has a lot of really useful tactical positions, and underground tunnels to sneak through. Even SoC Pripyat doesn't have the same sort of visibility from many of its buildings that Dead City has.

In CoC it's also positioned in a strategic place between Army Warehouses, Yantar, and Limansk, and away from the scorcher.

The mod has halted development and is riddled with bugs, many of which cause crashes and persist in your save or map, completely breaking all further progress.
In my opinion it was also a chore to play with excessive damage from enemies, laser accuracy and an extremely shitty SEVA suit that breaks after three shots.
Though the mag loading feature was cool.
Take my advice and play a different AMK variant or CoC like all the cool kids in this general do.

I like the "feature" in AMK that has a 2% chance when damaged to drop whatever you're holding in your hand, and has an exemption for the bolt but not binoculars even though you can't obtain them anywhere else, so it's very reasonable to get shot and drop your binoculars without even realizing it, and then have to do without them for the rest of the game.

If you already played CoP you should run it modded right away, since without mods it plays like a stripped down nude version of CoP, specifically intended to be modded.
Pick your favourite weapon conversion or Weapongoulash, maybe grab outfit addon, some graphical mods if vanilla CoP with better graphical effects is not enough, maybe the DoctorX quest mod.
Or go all out and install Call of Misery if you like rust covered kitchen sinks.
There's loads of discussion about CoC related addons so you should have a general image of what is "in" right now.

I have never heard of either of those two mods you mentioned.
If they're not CoC mods made specifically for CoC they're incompatible.
As for CoM, people usually called Misery the "Rusty Kitchen Sink" mod due to all the different items, weapons, extra mechanics, balance changes and gameplay additions.
That sure warrants the name "Kitchen Sink", right?
Since CoM is an adaption of Misery for CoC porting many mechanics and items seen in the current version of Misery I assume the name would carry over.

I can tell you why zombies snipe you better than normal Stalkers in CoC: They have a SLIGHTLY higher threshold for detection, as in they need to see you for about half a second longer on average before they really "see" you, but they have half the transparency threshold of normal stalkers. In practical terms, this means they essentially have perfect vision through brush that cannot be obscured unless you can manage to stack up 3 or more bushes in between them and you.

Their eye range (how far away they can detect you) is also massively increased from 150 meters to 200, so they will start seeing you WAY sooner than other Stalkers, and since their walking "spread" is only just over twice that of normal NPCs, it's quite common for them to start lighting you the fuck up at 200 meters as they shamble towards you, and if there's a group of them, you'll probably get dinged and killed in a couple seconds on Master.

If you're interested, I can whip you up a better vision preset for zombified stalkers and remove the sniping bullshit.

Yes, Tushonka is just meat, fat, a couple bay leaves sitting on top, and VERY RARELY some chopped onions thrown in. Eating it zone-style would be opening the can and slurping that shit down cold, fat and all which is what they did in WW2, or if were lucky and could make a fire, you'd heat the can over the fire and eat it straight from the can. No rice, no extra ingredients, just stewed pork or beef or mutton, but typically pork.

I can see this, for practical purposes, but since Nimble is camped out directly at the border the time frame could be significantly reduced.

I'd like to make him complete orders instead of trading, but his inventory would be severely narrowed down, and he would basically become the only reliable source for rare types of ammo. (which the player would order and receive in bulk, which would cost much less than that of a typical trader.)

By having Nimble smuggle guns across the border for the player, the prices could also be cut down substantially. For example a KSVK could cost half of what other traders might offer for one, and unique guns wouldn't restock because he would not be a trader.

It's actually part of the suit, what makes the suit work is that the helmet and respirator are attached to the suit itself and hermetically sealed.

The other Scientists suits like the SSP-99 and SSP-99M are better at this since they seem to have a completely isolated respirator instead of just a re-breather.

I should play with the balance of the two types of suits since right now they seem too similar.

SEVA would be better against electrical and radiation than the SSP-99 series, and be good at thermal, but the SSP-99 would be much better against chemical, and thermal than the SEVA due to having better internal ventilation and cooling systems under a two layer chemical/flash suit.

I think the SEVA's actual suit materials would be more like those used in space suits, with a foil under layer for conducting electricity around the wearer, and various insulating layers underneath to block heat and radiation.

Because they get paid to, the same reason why in SoC they let the player through the checkpoint when he bribes them.

The military is there to contain the Zone and prevent people from entering it or exiting it, they're not there to hunt down those already inside of it.

Condition stats aren't fully stated, but the general trend is that NATO weapons are better stat wise but suffer from otherwise poor reliability. Which can really bite on long trips unless you take a Gunsmith kit with you.

Overall, there's a whole bunch first person animation changes that make CoP feel so much slower than SoC. Strafing while in iron sightseeing you have to pause and wait a million years slows the game down to a crawl. And grenades are so slow too - I saw a guy coming around a corner through a crack in a wall and by the time I had pulled my grenade out and started the throwing animation he had shot me a hundred times over.

And what happened to artifacts? They're way harder to get now (good, looking for them in anomalies with the detector is more engaging than the weird RNG of SoC) but they're almost useless, as anti-radiation artifacts are borderline nonexistent (maybe totally) and antirad drugs are too precious to waste on temporarily buffing yourself. And what happened to electricity artifacts boosting endurance?

SoC was already a fairly slow paced game that got faster as you progressed, but now CoP is even slower with no particularly interesting progression slope.

Drugs should have worse side effects than artifacts, and artifacts themselves should have a wider variety of drawbacks than most of them just being radioactive.

This sounds really good.
The only artifacts I ever use are radiation reducing, carry weight or stamina increasing but even that can be provided through suit upgrades making artifacts little more than bags of money to be collected.

As far as the anti-radiation artifacts, I think those should generally be the best ones, though they could siphon health or hunger from the player when used continuously.

Vodka's anti-radiation effect needs to be nerfed significantly, by approx 5x or so, and should actually provide some light psy protection benefit for depressing the nervous system.

Antirads and Rad protection drugs should both make the player VERY SICK when used, mainly because those poison the player and/or saturate the body's cells in order to prevent radiation poisoning.

Medkits could have their rate of effect nerfed, other healing drugs could work the same way. Diazepam, at least in itemsoup, could be altered to not just add psy protection, but healing, though it would knock out the player. Ketamine could be added to follow a similar principle. Anesthetics could work like Vinca, to stop bleeding, haven't figured out a drawback for those yet. Hercules, since it is a steroid, could negatively affect bleeding.

On the topic of artifacts being more valuable/interesting.
I recently saw a thread on the MISERY forums pls no bully that rightfully complained about how shit the artifacts in the mod are, with mostly uninteresting effects, boring and tedious drawbacks and such.
Some guy then suggested a few ideas to improve the artifact system, one was to further adapt from Roadside Picnic and make a shitload of artifacts with very unique effects and high rarity and value
Such as an artifact that provides infinite charge to the UPD for example.
This would result in artifacts being more sought-after and fun to use since having an artifact with an incredibly unique effect sounds extremely interesting as a concept.
The issue about that is obviously that implementing hundreds of artifacts with unique effects are a metric fuckton of work for everyone involved and will most likely never happen.
The concept of that is rather interesting though.

Misery artifacts are really boring for now - 4 different families with all of them having linear increase in drawbacks/positive effects and price.
Dunno about infinite UPD charge; maybe just a lot of energy until the artifact is degraded completely.
Speaking about artifacts with unique properties, it would be undoubtedly a good thing if they were implemented, but something like increased movement speed/jump height will also need x-ray engine fixing/altering. Such artifacts would badly need something like dedicated quest, not just "go into anomaly field and grab it".
Another correlated topic with artifacts I have to discuss is collecting them. It can be save-scummy: accidentally stepped into Burner to collect an artifact? No problem, just load the save that you just made 5 seconds ago.

Since the discussion was about the Misery mod instead of CoC there was no relation to artifact degradation (I hate that feature btw, having rare artifacts you got lucky to find run out over time is pretty frustrating, with extremely rare artefacts it would be even more infuriating).
Having quests though would guarantee that you encounter the artifact, defeating the purpose of "the rare artifact you encounter once every 30 hours that's useful in a specific way".
Maybe having extremely rare dynamic quests would be a better option since you can control how often they appear while still giving some link to finding artifacts without randomly stumbling over them.
Save scumming is an issue that's present in multiple aspects in multiple games, the only way to remove it in any way would be to play on Ironman.

That would probably lead to the Fallout 4 Survival Bed Saving issue, in which people just do their save spamming and running around at specific points in the map, not changing much really, except exclusively making anomaly fields far away from these save stations become dangerous while keeping those near them ripe for picking as usual.

Another thing that CoC could use is some addon that would enable random singular anomalies on maps. There was one, but it was buggy as hell and was never fixed. Maybe not completely random, but more appropriate, like Burner anomaly 20 meters away from some fire arch-anomaly.

Okay, let's start.
Do not assume that implementing any of these features is actually possible with the XRay engine, I'm just stroking my idea guy dick right here.
For this to become interesting we assume that we have a MISERY-tier economy in the game.

Artifacts will become extremely fucking rare, a blowout has a 10-5% chance of spawning one artifact anywhere in the world.
Artifacts can be sold for excessive amounts of money, like 50k-80k RU worth.
All anomaly fields near safe zones are removed.
A new faction is created that mingles with and is almost completely identical to Loner, called Treasure Hunters.
These treasure hunters act the same way as a loner does, with the difference that they relentlessly hunt down artifacts if one exists on the world.
Artifact detectors turn into Dragon Ball detectors, being able to track an artifact on the whole game world, the Veles will function like a Bear in case the artifact is outside of the screen, this should turn every blowout into an unscripted quest of world travel to find this piece of zone gold.
If you find an artifact, all Artifact Hunters become completely hostile to you as long as you own it, they will now where you are and will chase you until you get into a safe zone.
An artifact's appearance and name will be randomized and their effects will not be readable until you get it analyzed by either a trader or by buying a portable analytics kit, they will also be unusable.
In the safe zone you can either sell it or identify and "process it", turning it into a usable artifact.

Passive Artifacts are ones that have an effect while you keep them in your inventory, they will grant you a passive effect such as infinite battery charge (as mentioned previously), though I didn't get any other good ideas about other passive ones.

Strong Passives are ones worn on your belt, some provide the well known effects such as better stamina regen, protection from anomalies or other sources of damage, but to a ludicrous rate. Think complete heat protection permanently, or constantly full stamina stat allowing for highest regen speed. Other artifacts that allow higher jumps, higher movement speed, Tactical Helmet-like minimap detection, permanent organic night vision, fast reload or other useful passive features that are related to the player's abilities.

Weapon artifacts are artifacts that you can attach to your weapon, allowing for effects such as light-speed bullets (hitscan), higher damage, durability degradation and weapon failure stop, with some modifying the bullets themselves, allowing for anomalous fire or acid bullets or some that curve, reflect or break into smaller bullets.

All artifacts have degradation, though they can be undone by either paying money to recharge them, or maybe going to the centre of the zone at the generators and letting it recharge anomalous energy while fending off monolith assaults.

Coming to the zone is already pretty crazy, but if there's only 1 artifact and you know for a fact loads of people can use a detector to know you have it, it becomes ridiculously crazy.

I'm also iffy about Treasure Hunter faction, mainly because almost everyone is a treasure hunter already, and everyone definitely would be if they were worth 50-80k.

I love the idea of mega artifacts that are very powerful and expensive, but only in addition to other more common artifacts, not in replacement. Not sure what happens with it in the air, but on one of my vanilla playthroughs knifed one at the CNPP and there was wreckage. This on the other hand I blew up in mid air, so have no idea. You have to do it from a position where nobody can see you. If you stab him in the back of the head with a knife, as long as nobody sees you do it, they won't be hostile.

Just find a good spot where nobody is looking in your direction, take him out from there, then leave fast. I've noticed that sometimes they will turn hostile if you hang around after the kill even if they weren't initially

If the gun you're using is chambered in the same cartridge as the one you're comparing it to, the "bars" are a good enough stat comparison. If you're comparing weapons of different calibers, you're going to need to take a look at the ammo multipliers since there can be some massive differences.

It only does damage localized around those pulses, so if you continually sprint away from them, you should only get hit with a weak pulse at best, and if you have medkits stocked and good armor you can easily outheal it. I don't know what type of damage it does, since you would expect it to do psy, but I eating a psy-block doesn't appear to reduce the damage any further than a SEVA already does when standing directly under a pulse, so I guess it could be electrical.

Depends on your processor. I can run full a-life at 0.5 for everything with the game maxed out at 1440p and still get well over 60fps. The only stuttering I get is when I wake up after sleeping in-game, and it only lasts 10 seconds before going back to normal. I'm on a 6600k though. Just play with it and see what works for you

It's off by default, but it may show up as a menu item in the future. For now, you want to open _g.script and find the line "DEACTIVATE_SIM_ON_NON_LINKED_LEVELS" and set that from True to False, and you're in business.

There's a "mod" out there that does exactly that (just a _g.script with that line changed), but you can easily do it yourself.

yeah, that's kown to do that when maxed out. part of the reason they cut the slider from the menu.

people would max everything , not understanding that grass detail and density take a pretty big toll on your pc and the engine itself when maxed out especially if you have high res texture mods on top of it.

you can try editing those settings in game via the console, and when you make changes do vid_restart should help you get an idea of what will work the best without shafting you on performance.

Commenting out xrs_utils.getStartTime(StartTime) so that it's : --xrs_utils.getStartTime(StartTime) stops the game from crashing on load.


Can anyone here shed some insight on what that function is doing, and why commenting out that specific line appears to break the check preventing actor.ltx being loaded from anywhere but inside the database. With that line commented out, I was even able to set damage resistance to 100% to everything for complete invulnerability with actor.ltx, without the "kill strelok" quest failing as I had read some people saw immediately upon "cheating".

Red Forest is hell, it's always crawling with mutants, bandits, and monolith, and there is always that choke point at the gate near Forester's camp where crazy firefights go down.

And yet strangely, I want to move my main stash to the mine there, I figure that if I keep most of my supplies there then I can be prepared for anything.

I assumed that when I was in Red Forest fighting neutrals it was because of the contract mission I did for Sidorovich there where I killed one of them from Forester's tower.

The rest of the camp that turned on me must have stuck around there, or others may have looted the corpse or something.

I should have wiped out the entire camp, no witnesses.

Joint Pak 2 sure does have the NPC detection and accuracy settings tuned well into artificial difficulty territory. I kept seeing people in russian JP2 threads complaining about momentarily peaking corners and getting instantly blasted, and I thought that was hyperbole, but no, that's really what happens.

Their sound detection threshold is cut in half (how loud a sound has to be before they hear it and know exactly where you are), their visibility threshold (how long it takes them to detect you once you're visible) was cut by 86%, they received a massive 50° boost to their field of view, and their base fire dispersion (weapon spread) was shrunk by 50-60% across the board.

One redditfag described JP2 as a russian quickload simulator and that assessment seems right on the money.

I could easily fix all of this, but now I'm sitting here wondering if this is an indicator of things to come and the overall quality of the mod, and if this is even the type of mod I should be spending my time with. If this is a case of "play meme mod, get memed on", I should probably just cut my losses.

The chimera came from the opposite direction, actually. I was outside the complex preparing myself for the controllers.

So it was more like a 2 controllers and a chimera vs me. I didn't even have full health at the moment, so the chimera pretty much OHK'd me and made me shit my pants at the same time.

In CoC you're just some random asshole surviving in the Zone. Just make up your own main goal. The concept kind of feels like it'd work better as a multiplayer experience, in my opinion. Found the problem, in the gamedata/configs/text there are 2 folders "eng" and "rus". "eng" is made by the translation and "rus" is used by the weapon packs as such none of the original "rus" texts are used because the english translation scripts refer to the "eng" file. To fix it just copy the weapon packs config/text/rus to gamedata/config/text/eng

The current version of STCoP for CoM is not 2.9. It has some tweaks from 2.9 though.
As for upgrades, STCoP had unique upgrade trees since long time ago. STCoP for Misery (done by the same author who ported it into CoM) had smaller upgrade trees than normal STCoP I think. Probably balance reasons.

when you drop an artefact in an anomaly if it is the right artefact and the right anomaly a bright white flash will happen and the arefact will disappear. then u gotta wait or go do some shit and come back.

sometimes tho arefacts can end up falling below the level map. this happened to me a few times in AMK AE 1.4.1

sometimes the artefact will migrate away from the anomaly. but sometimes you gotta take a hit. just make sure you have some sort of protection if that's the case. and sometimes even popping a medkit before trying to recover it will help mitigate the damage. so you don't die. otherwise i can try shooting the artefact. as far as i know it doesn't damage the artefact.
