Knowing nip is actually not super important at all to play pad considering it's just menu screens. Whether you play NA or JP, everyone already uses shit like padguide or padx to read card and dungeon info too.

Coming from NA, it's nice that JP doesn't treat us like complete shit 24/7. Freebies like stones, pys, and MP are very common. We are also guaranteed to get all content to the game. The only content that you absolutely cannot access without being in Japan is the Bluetooth shit that sometimes appears on pad radar (that's basically limited to those Pepper robot things that nobody even cares about anyway).

I'd recommend anyone who isn't far into the game to switch to JP on the next godfest. If you've invested a shit ton of time/money into N/A, ehhhh, might as well just stay; it's advised that you switch as early as possible.
