has anything been said about the chinese cheating drama? I remember that it took almost a full month for the match fixing peruvians to get banned so I would hope that its something similar

I'm a 27 year old consultant who will not only be 28 in April, but also a father. Back when I found out my wife was pregnant, I told myself I'd quit Dota when the baby comes, because jesus christ this game is a time sink and people aren't going to pause for diaper changes. I joked with my friends and said my goal was to hit 6k before the baby comes to I would finally achieve some success in a game i've loved, but always knew I was a little too old and entrenched in domestic life to ever achieve any sort of greatness in.

I know some people will say its easy to balance life etc etc, but I already have a demanding job, and a wife, Dota barely fits in now. My point is this, if you really want to climb MMR and play with RTZ, get someone pregnant (or maybe just pick Treant).

I'm not a 5k by any means, im just a sub-3k shitter, and I have absolutely nothing to brag about (my mechanics and knowledge of the game are mediocre).
Mainly due to my lack of practice in the game, and I tend to take my games less seriously
But I remembered one easy way to tell the difference between different brackets were ward placements (especially sentries). Often times <4k would put wards on the standard spots, or in non-sensical places that don't give useful enough information.

In this new patch no one knows where to experiment with wards since there is so many new shit (trees are all over the place making potential ward placement more static IMO) but I'm sure over time, you can tell just how different the decision-making level is in different brackets by simply looking at ward placements.

what do you mean 'means something?' it means that overall a 5k player has better decision making, pick better heroes, has better mechanics and blabla on average than a 4k, but worse on average than a 6k. people dont understand how mmr works, its as simple as win more often than you lose, and if you barely win more than you lose, then you need to play alot more games to get high mmr than if you win decently more than you lose
if you have 55% winrate over 1k games, you will have gained 5 times as much mmr than if you would have had 51% winrate
so your mmr over a few thousand games is quite simply your ability to make sure that you use your strengths as a player to translate that into a win, and to 'avoid' your weaknesses to cause you to lose, for example by sticking to a preferred role/couple of heroes, like slacks and many others do

I was pretty damn on point with my ward and deward placement in the last patch, I knew all the little sneaky wards that are harder to deward, and I could predict the enemy warding with pretty good accuracy
in this patch I am pretty lost, but I picked up quite a few sneaky wards at the genting tournament. its nothing spectacular about these wards, they're just normal deep ward/lane wards/warding AROUND the ''OP spots'' so they wont be caught by a sentry meant for that spot, stuff like that.
anyone who keeps an eye out for that stuff will learn more and more wards over the next few weeks, and will shamelessly copy good ward placements they see.
it should be said that dewarding in this patch is generally much harder now, especially in the jungle, since there are so many more 'half wards' you can place
