Theory Time!

Is it possible that Master Xehanort is a Nobody?

Hear me out: It'd be a wonderful character arc for him to come so far as a Nobody, to have grown his own Heart, only to split it again into Heartless and Nobody, and put pieces of it into the 13 vessels.

This train of thought comes from the fact that Luxu shares his Keyblade with Xehanort. Presumably the Keyblade was passed Master to Master unto Xehanort, but what if instead Xehanort is simply the Nobody of Luxu? In fact, it'd be entirely possible for Xehanort to be a Nobody and not even know it (much like Roxas). Xehanort even has the X in his name, with the anagram forming from either Another or No Heart. Maybe the name was given to him by the more cognizant half, because of the fact that he had no heart (being a Nobody at his birth, I mean).

This would also give a nice place for the series to turn to after the "Xehanort Saga"!

Just some fun stuff I was gushing about with my wife earlier today.

If there are any CLEAR contradictions given the current lore, please let me know.

Xehanort is confirmed to be a Destiny Islands native. He likely got scouted by his and Eraqus's master from his strong desire to leave the islands.
Luxu's key is apparently a treasure of the Land of Departure. Since it's seen hanging on the wall in the chess game scene, and YMX tells Braig he hasn't inherited it yet at the point where he time traveled, it's very likely that it's not his original keyblade.

I think the inherited will theory is much more likely. Yours is interesting but the fact that we know where Xehanort came from originally and that the goat key wasn't always his kinda throws a wrench in it.

Also it's impossible that Luxu is alive at the time of Xehanort because time travel rules state there must be a version of yourself to travel to when time traveling.
Which is why Xehanort can't travel to the keyblade war. It's fucking ANCIENT. And the whole reason he wants kingdom hearts is to see what the keyblade war is like. Yeah, Riku could still have heard those stories and that could still be Xehanort! Nothing contradictory about Xehanort being a Nobody. The only thing would be that Xehanort would had to have been born either on Destiny Islands or split and then dropped off on Destiny Islands.
