My friends and I went to a SGDQ in 2015. I can't believe how hard it was to talk to people there. We're all normies who have social lives and normal jobs but enjoy gaming. Most people would literally ignore us. We signed up for several volunteer positions and never heard back. At the event a staff member told us about how he had non stop shifts because they needed volunteers.

We saw Caleb Hart and a small crowd around him playing games in one of the rooms. I joined the group and said "Hey what's up guys?" They all stopped what they were doing, turned, looked at us, and then went back to playing.

I genuinely enjoy speedrunning and have watched GDQs since 2011, but the community IRL is very awkward and uninviting.
